Spinning Wheel crashes at start up, Not an error with actual hard drive.

I recently bought a second hand macbook pro 2009. The guy told me it worked fine but you couldn't update the Operating System. I was okay with this because we agreed it must be a hard drive issue and i wanted to replace it with a 1tb SSHD anyway. I tried to enter disk utility to wipe the original 160gb hard drive, but like the guy said, the spinning wheel would just crash. So i installed my new 1000tb SSHD and the exact same thing happen, i insert a Mavericks USB, hold Option, click on the bootable USB and the spinning wheel starts and then stops.
The only way i was able to wipe the 160gb using disk utility was doing it through my iMac and having the Macbook in Target mode.
I know it's not a hard drive issue, as i bought three of these SSHD's and the other two worked fine. Would it be the hard drive cable or something else?

Well it did the same when retried many times. I dont have my Yamaha N12 connected as its on the new Imac so Im just using the internal audio inputs and outputs. But I cant even get it to start. I have tried doing updates etc, I dont have any other plug ins that I know of and have tried the help forums etc and tried everything else I can find but still no go. Unless it has worked since the upgrading, I believe you should uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

First, the code you posted was mangled by the forum formatting software. When you post code, select it and click the CODE button above the typing area, which will prevent that, and maintain your formatting.
When you ran the appletviewer program from the cmd window, error information was posted to it by the java command. Did you look at it? It says that you have a NullPointerException at this line

Read and understand the error messages that java creates, they almost always point exactly at the problem and allow you to debug the cause.

Why will my projects not move to an external hard drive within iMovie?

My movie list has grown so big I need to move them into an external hard drive. I searched on apple.com and found out the way this is best done. Firstly it states that it is done within iMovie, which is what I did. Secondly it states that you select a toggle button to display the various hard drives which are attached and again I did this and can see the hard drive I want to move the projects and events into. I then selected the projects and dragged then over the relevant hard drive, I can not seem to drag the event. However when I release the project to drop it into the hard drive it won't fall. It just returns back to it's starting position in the Project Library. I have tried to do this both with holding down the cmd button to move them or without the cmd button to copy them.
For some reason my files, either events or projects, won't move into the displayed hard drive. I am not sure if there is a bug in my iMovie8 or my hard drive is some how not configured properly. The hard drive was bought especially for a mac and runs Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Can anyone suggest what is happening and how to get around this? In worst case is there a way to move the files outside of imovie that will still allow them to be properly displayed within imovie?

I don't think that it can be done that way - BUT I KNOW that it can be very destructive
most probably end up as un-reparable.
The move of projects and events - works so much better in iMovie'09

You'll need to get onto Support and explain, and if you have not made a habbit of asking, they'll reset your activations limit back to zero. Or if you have only ever installed it once, you'll still have an activation to use.

LR4 starting up with external hard drives

Hi, I have downloaded the trial version of LR4. When I backup my documents (not photos) via my external hard drive LR4 starts up as soon as the computer recognizes the external hard drive.
How can I prevent this?

In your Lightroom preferences, make sure there is not a check box in the option to start Lightroom when a card is inserted. Even though the external drive isn't a card, it seems that the operating system does, and will start Lightroom for you. I didn't realize that until I started using a new computer. There seems to be a lot of fine tuning and tweaking to get everything working my way.

My original external has an error and needs to be reformatted but I dont want to lose this informations its my entire Itunes library.

Sounds like the source drive is formatted as case sensitive and the destination drive is not. The preferred format for OS X is case insensitive unless there is a compelling reason to go case sensitive.
Why can't you change the filename? Is it because the source drive is having problems? If so is this happening with only one or two or a few files? If so the best thing would be to copy those over individually and then rename them on the destination drive.
If it is more then you can do manually and you can't change the name on the source you will have to reformat the destination as case sensitive.
Btw this group is for discussion of the Support Communities itself, you;d do better posting to Lion group. I'll see if a host will move it.

Can not connect to Time Capsule hard drive when I am not on its network.

I had a airport extreme with a hard drive that I used to back up my computer and to access my files when I am on the road. (Everything worked perfectly)
I switched to the Time Capsule.
I am now unable to connect to my Time Capsule drive when I am on the road.
I get this message: The server "time capsule name"may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.
Some notes:
-I am using the same exact modem at home I have been using this whole time
-I am connecting using the same connection I did when I connected with my airport extreme
-I can connect to mobileme
-My mobileme name and password are in the advanced options in the Capsule
-My firewall is OFF
-My back to my Mac option is ON in Mobileme preferences
-I have the most up to date OS package
-I have the most up to date capsule version
PLEASE HELP!

I thought Boot Camp could be involved becauseI know it's the only thing related to the EFI.
I searched on internet, and Ifound nothing. There was a solution in order to reset the partition table, but the tool is no longer available. The link on on the application explains that I have to reformat my macbook pro. I find a bit weird to make this , I can't spend hours for backup / restore just because the SMC update does not work. have you any lead for me ?

Have you tried this:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

Operating system not found when deploying to machines with two hard drives using MDT 2013.

Computers with two hard drives will not boot after the install OS step in the task sequence. I get the "An operating system wasn't found. Try removing drives that don't contain an operating system" error. I am able to get the
machine to boot by swapping the hard drives' boot order, but the task sequence won't complete after this. The deployment works fine on machines with one hard drive, and I'm not getting any errors from the task sequence. I'm deploying windows7
enterprise x64 using MDT2013. This is a new custom image and task sequence generated using MDT2013. I can't remove the second hard drive because there are scripts that run on the second hard drive during deployment and also because I don't desire
to remove and re-install 250 hard drives. I've not experienced this problem with earlier versions of MDT.

I also had problem accessing my WD MyBookLive after upgrading to Maverick.
To resolve the problem, I used Connect To Server (Cmd K) to specify the IP address.
Then I enter a user id and password I created in the MyBookLive.
You can also verify that you have admin access to the MyBookLive using Safari or Chrome.
Just enter the MyBookLive IP address as the URL.

Click the Time Machine icon in the menu bar. The time of the last backup is shown in the drop down.
