Splitting a String to a Character array

I need to split a string to a character array. All I can find is how to split on spaces, etc.
Can you help me?
Thanks

  • How to split a string with linefeed character ( LF ) as a delimiter in VB6?

    Hi. I am writing a small program in VB 6.0.
    I have a string named Data and it contains few characters along with <LF> in it. ( <LF> is a new line/line feed character).
    I want to split this string with <LF> as delimiter and store the tokens in an array. I tried with split function and its giving me type mismatch error. Can anyone tell me how to do it?
    I am giving the pseudo-code below.
    Dim Data as string
    Data = "hello, how are you<LS>good morning guys <LS> hi"
    Dim strarray() as stringMsgbox(Data)
    strarray = split(Data, "<LS>")
    When i see the Data in message box before split function, it shows up in different lines like this:
    hello, how are you
    good morning   guys
    hi
    I want the final array strarray to be like this:   strarray(0) = "hello, how are you"
    strarray(1) = "good morning   guys "
    strarray(2)  = " hi"
    The spaces can be as it is. Just i need the string to be delimited wherever <LS> is there.
    Please help me as soon as possible. Though it is small one, i am stuck here.
    Thanks in advance,
    Satya.

    But Hmmm... I've never understood educators universal compulsion to make students do things the hard way.I have no real problem with making students do things the hard way. In this case it looks to me to be an exercise in looping and accessing characters in a String. The OP will gain some knowledge by using the API but he will gain more by actually writing the detailed code himself.

  • Splitting a string... any suggestions, selecting the 11th character

    I have a string... e.g. AAR12345678
    now what i want to do is split the string and select number "8", the 11th character.... any suggestions?

    If you know you want the 11th character, then just
    use String.charAt(10) to get it.woh... i thing u cracked it....
    so would i do:
    String studentid = RS.getString("studentid");
    String split_studentid = studentid.charAt(10);
    Close, but not quite. charAt returns a char, not a String.
    char theOneIWant = studentid.charAt(10);

  • How to split  a string in jsp?

    I have a set of strings or names in ${form.temp.name}Is there anyway I can split a string in jsp or jstl by a newline "\n" or space "\\s" character and print them separately. Or Do i have to do something in my controller as I am using spring with jsp and jstl for my web application?
    Thanks.

    Yes I did the work as below. When I use some delimiters like ";", the code works. But for the newline character of carriage return it does nto work.
    <c:set var="str" value="${form.temp.name}"/>
                     <c:set var="delim" value=" \r\n|\\n"/>
                     <c:set var="array" value="${fn:split(str, delim)}"/>
                     <c:forEach var="token" items="${array}">
                         <p><c:out value="${token}"/> </p>
                     </c:forEach>                Icidentally for the same element, when I try to split in java with the same delimiters, it is working. I am surprised why it is not working?

  • Split a string using Match Pattern function

    I am trying to split a response string from a climate chamber into different parts. The string goes something like this: 0030.0\s0034.6\s0080.0\s0083.4. I am using the match pattern function to split the string using \s as the search string. But it is not splitting the string as required. If I use only \ , its working fine. Can anyone please suggest why \s is not being recognised as a part of the input string?
    Subhro.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Is the string you show in normal display mode or in \ codes display mode?
    Anyway, if you need to match a '\' character you'll have to mask it using \, so the match string would be '\\s' to match '\s'.
    Alternatively you could use spreadsheet string to array with the correct delimiter. For the data you show this would work perfectly.

  • Character array type conversion problem

    Hi, I'm using BlazeDS (v3.0.0.544) to remotely call Java code on the server from my Flex client. I'm having trouble when converting a character array type from Java to ActionScript and vice-versa. In my Flex code, if the ActionScript class uses a String type to map to the char[] then the char[] is successfully converted from Java to ActionScript, but not from ActionScript to Java.
    // Extract from ActionScript code
    private var m_charArray:String;
    public function get charArray():String
    return m_charArray;
    public function set charArray(value1:String):void
    m_charArray = value1;
    Alternatively, if my ActionScript class uses an Array type then I can successfully send data from the client and populate a char[] field on the server, but can't send an updated char[] back to my ActionScript class.
    In fact the Flex console reports:
    TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert "myString" to Array.
    The code this time:
    // Extract from ActionScript code
    private var m_charArray:Array;
    public function get charArray():Array
    return m_charArray;
    public function set charArray(value1:Array):void
    m_charArray = value1;
    All the other types I have tried work successfully, it's only with char arrays that I've hit a problem.
    Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    Hi Graeme,
    It is how it works. I can see the inconsistency. You can find an example how of echo char[] in blazeds\trunk\qa\apps\qa-regress\testsuites\mxunit\tests\remotingService\dataTypes\CharTy pesTest.mxml. It echos a char[] in return of a string. You can get the char in a string easily string.charAt() and get its length using length(). I think it may be the reason remoting decided to use a string to represent a char[] instead of a generic objects array. It should be more memory efficient. However, I can see that it can turn into problem as what you descibed. When the data has to send back to server, it has to convert back to array. If the char[] type is used inside an object, it is impossible to do the conversion unless the getter and setter are generic
    public function get charArray():Object
    return m_charArray;
    public function set charArray(value1:Object):void
    if (value1 is String)
    m_charArray = new Array();
    //copy the string elements to it
    else
    m_charArray = value1;
    I know it is ugly, but it the only work around I can think of. I think it needs to log a bug to correct this conversion behavior

  • Mapping issue: Split a string to multiple strings in an idoc

    Hi,
    I need to split a string with an undefined length into strings of 132 chars. The problem is, how to map from the source field to the target field,
    which belong to an idoc segment. The segment has the occurence 1 to unbounded, and the field 0 to 1. Simplifying, i need to map one source field split it in 132
    chars block and put the resultant blocks into an idoc field (maxLength = 132).
    IDoc
    Segment X
    Segment (occurence 1..unbounded)
    Field X
    Source field SourceA (undefined length)----->-----Field TargetA (occurence 0..1) (maxLength = 132)
    Segment Y

    Ok...here is one way of achiving what u want - hope ur comfortable with working with context mapping...
    Raise the context of ur source field one level higher and write  a UDF funtionto do this -
    Declare an array list
    Read the source string and append it to the arraylist.
    Then when u map ur target IDOC text...read from this array list and created ...By maintaining the context...there will be as many segments in the idocas there are in the arraylist..

  • How to split a string using IndexOf?

    How would you split a string using indexOf and not using the .split method?
    Any help is appreciated :D

    would it be better to use the first or the second?
    int      indexOf(int ch)
    Returns the index within this string of the first occurrence of the specified character.
    int      indexOf(int ch, int fromIndex)
    Returns the index within this string of the first occurrence of the specified character, starting the search at the specified index.
    I think the second would be helpful. so how do i read it?

  • Parsing a string to a boolean array

    I got to pase a string to a boolean array, this code works for me, but I don't like it. Here Is
    public static boolean[] NumeroToBoolArray( int Numero )
    //Here I got the number in Binary Format, then reverse it
    String temp = new StringBuffer(Integer.toBinaryString(Numero)).reverse().toString();
    //Now I create a boolean array of temp.length
    boolean[] data_bool = new boolean[temp.length()];
    for (int pp = 0; pp < data_bool.length ; pp++)
    //And now assign the value to data_bool
    data_bool[pp] = String.valueOf(Character.digit(temp.charAt(pp), 10)).equalsIgnoreCase("1");
    return data_bool;
    Any idea or replacement for this function?
    Thanks

    data_bool[pp] = String.valueOf(Character.digit(temp.charAt(pp),10)).equalsIgnoreCase("1");becomes
    data_bool[pp] = temp.charAt(pp) == '1';

  • How to split a string into tokens and iterate through the tokens

    Guys,
    I want to split a string like 'Value1#Value2' using the delimiter #.
    I want the tokens to be populated in a array-like (or any other convenient structure) so that I can iterate through them in a stored procedure. (and not just print them out)
    I got a function on this link,
    http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/11692/0/
    which returns a VARRAY. Can anybody help me how to iterate over the VARRAY, or suggest a different alternative to the split please ?
    Thanks.

  • Increase the length of a character array

    hello,
    i need to increase the length of my character array.i tred using ArrayUtils class which supports setSize method to set the size of a previously declared character array.But,i have no idea of how to import that class.i meant 'which package to use' for it. plz help me out of this
    thanks

    use ArrayList or StringBuffer or String Builder class.
    or
    use ArrayList to get the input at run time and use toArray() method to change the list to array.
    there is no option available to change the size of the array once created.
    there is no Arraysutils package , it is util.Arrays.
    u import,
    import java.util.*;
    or
    import static java.util.Arrays.*;
