SPM & BPC on same server machine

Hi,
Can we have SPM and BPC installed on the same server machine. Are there any limitations of this kind of an approach? If yes, are there work-arounds for accomplishing this.
Looking for information on this.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Ashish Sharma

Hi Ashish,
Technically I don't see why not, I am not aware of any restrictions.  I am not aware of the BW release requirements of BPC.

  • Can I install 9i database  and  9i AS on the same server ?

    Dear Forum,
We need to install Oracle 9i database(9.2.0.1.0) 64-bits
and Oracle 9i Application Server (9.0.2.0.1) on the same Server machine with the following features:
Machine: SunFire 6800, 4 CPU, 8 GB RAM
    OS: Solaris 9 8/03
    Is it possible?
Will we have problems or conflicts with the ports numbers?
Please, any aditional comments or recommendations will be welcome!!!!
    Best regards,
    Alfredo

    Hi Alfredo,
If you are planning to install an infrastructure as part of your application server, you might run into a port conflict for the TNS listener. The easiest way of solving this is to move the non-infrastructure database listener to another port.
A number of things like these are handled automatically in later releases. You do know that 9.0.2 is old and desupported, right?

  • Delete the existing sharepoint farm it is a development machinie and re create again in same server

    Hi
    i want to
delete the existing sharepoint farm it is a development machinie  and re create again in same server.
because i am facing issues to configure user profile service,
the user profile syncronisation service starting and after some time its stopped.
    while i am reading http://www.harbar.net/articles/sp2010ups.aspx
in current farm i given ip address for sql server while installing sharepoint
you have not used a Fully Qualified Domain Name or IP Address when specifying
the SQL Server when running the SharePoint Configuration Wizard (PSConfig). Using either is strongly discouraged,
if i recreate the farm is it creates new databases in sql srver?
    adil

    1. Uninstall any custom / third party solutions deployed in server.
    2. from central admin, delete web applications along with DB.
    3. delete all service applications.
    4. From the program settings, un-install sharepoint.
    5. Go to SQL and delete if any DB from SP is left.
    6. Uninstall SQL, if you see any issue.
These are high level reverse steps of the installation.

  • Back up Mac Server with Time Machine Server installed on the same Time Machine Server

I want to back up several Workstations (“Workstations 1-4” in diagram below) and a Mac OS X Server (“MacMini Server” in diagram below) that runs “Time Machine Server” on that same “Time Machine Server.”
    Is this possible?
The MacMini server doesn’t seem to find the “Time Machine Server” for backups. I read that this is due to the fact that Time Machine backups via network are organized in another way than “normal” Time Machine backups are.
MacOS server is running MacOS 10.8.5 with server app v2.2.1(169)-
    workstations are running 10.10.1, 10.9.5 and 10.8.4

The Time Capsule and Time Machine will automatically keep backups for each Mac separate.
A user on one Mac will not be able to "see" the backups of the other Mac.
You can add a few more Macs if you wish. 4 or 5 Macs would probably be a practical limit, depending on the size of the hard drive in the Time Capsule.

  • XI and R/3 Running on the same Server.

    Hello Friends!
One year ago I've installed XI on a machine that already had a R/3 instance. Although there were different instances, one for SAP R/3 and one instance for the ABAP part of XI, I couldn't get to connect XI to the R/3, appartently XI searched for the instance through the IP address, ignoring the instance ID parameter.
Now I have again the same challenge, I have only one machine to run R/3 and XI.
Does anyone know if it is possible to do?

    Hi Tadeo,
from ERP 2004 you can install XI on the same server.

  • Installing/Configuring multiple CMS instances in a single server machine

    Hello,
We are installing BO enterprise server and we have a requirement which is as follows..
    1. We have been given 1 server machine ( actual physical hardware machine )
    2. We have been given two database repository instances ( one for Dev , other for QA )
    3. We have to configure the 2 environments in the same server.
This means, Having two different CMS instances and pointing them to 2 different database repositories in one hardware server machine.
Any pointers how this can be achieved ?
I found a link where its mentioned that it can be achieved through the concept of SIA
    [http://www.businessobjectstips.com/tips/server/business-objects-xi-3-xs-server-intelligence-agent-sia/]
But how do we achieve it?

First of all - this is not a good idea. It's possible to do, but not a good practice.
The purpose of QA environment is to Test what has been developed. If QA and DEV are on the same machine - what's the point?
Then your hardware server has to be big enough to support this.
I might be better to have 2 VM instances...
As to how to go about doing that :
    1. It has been discussed here before, so if you search you'll see some good threads on the subject.
    2. You'll need to review Admin guide and Install and Deployment Planing guides for the version of BO software you're going to use. (http://help.sap.com)
    3. While pure BO stuff is fairly easy - you just create 2 SIA each pointing to its own DB and use different port ranges for both - you'll need to think about how to go about maintaining 2 instances of the Application server (Tomcat, WAS, WL etc ) to host 2 sets of BOE web apps (Infoview/CMC/dswsbobje)).

  • Can we have multi-Home CRS/ASM on same server?

    Hi All,
I'm studying the feasibility for below situation (sorry i'm new in RAC)
I'm not sure whether it can setup in HP-UX-11.23 Itanium box or not (Not OpenVMS)
We have two node e.g. node1 and node2 in RAC environment.
In node1, we plan to create one instance for each customer (Let say 10 customer, we will create 10 instances on same server).
For each instances (ORACLE_HOME), can we have their own ASM software (ASM instance) and CRS software (CRS HOME) instead of create one and share with all instances.
We're looking for multi-home concept, so that if one of our customer want to upgrade/patches oracle, it will NOT affect other customer.
Any idea, or any website can share with me?
    Thanks in advance.

Edited by: klnghau on Oct 15, 2010 8:51 AM

Let say, we have 10 instances in one box, each database will have their RDBMS homes, if we can not have multiple ASM instances or CRS home.
Whenever we want to apply patches on one of the instances, definitely other instances will be affected.
Just want to know what is the best deploy/best practice to apply patches in such environment?I think the first 'best' practice is to not have multiple instances on a single server. But if you have to do it, I'd say virtualisation might help you so that each instance lives in it's own virtual machine with it's own operating system. That way, you can also patch the OS and reboot it and only affect a single database instance. The only problem with RAC might be that not all virtualization platforms are supported with RAC

Each time I restart this exchange server, the Information Store and System Attendant don't start. If It try to manually start the services, I get the follow errors:

This may be caused by a time change either in the client or the server machine, and may require a reboot of that machine. Unexpected error The clocks on the client and server machines are skewed. ID no: 80090324 Microsoft Exchange System Attendant  occurred.
The clocks on the domain controllers and the exchange server are set to the same time zones. As well, all three clocks are in sync down to the second. Any ideas on what's causing this and how to fix it?

Run this Command from the Exchange Server
    Net time \\ADServerName /Set
    and confirm the action,
and then you need to restart the service
Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology Service
and confirm you are not getting the Error 4001 in the event Viewer.
Thank you, it resolved my issue after being sweating looking for solution.
How can I prevent this from happening? I cannot restart services on each server reboot nor lose 5 years of my life!!!

  • BPC 7.0 Server Installation Problem - Cannot connect to reporting services

I am upgrading from 5.1 to 7.0 version for SAP BPC.  Everything went smooth on the development server (single instance installation including SQL Server 2005 developers edition 32bit, web, reporting and application services on the same server). I tried to repeat the same process on the test server, and the installation went off the rails.  I started with clean installations of SQL Server 2005 on both servers.
When I try to install the BPC server software, I get to the point of access to the report server, and everything stops. I get the following message: Cannot connect to reporting services.  I have verified the reporting server name, and I have verified that the server name is correct in the installation panel. I have also verified that the reporting server is configured, started, and that there are no errors.
    Any advice?

    Hi Sorin,
Thanks for the tip, but this was not the case.  The problem was solved by re-loading the OS. Using Windows Server 2003 gave an issue during the re-installation of the SQL Server database. The problem was in the installation itself. After a clean install of both the OS and SQL Server, then SAP BPC 7 worked. The installation does require a number of tweaks, particularly, in my case, the entire Management console must be configured, even if not being used.
    This problem is now solved.

  • CNR: Two cnr instances in the same server (lab environment)

Hello, we are trying to install two cnr 7.2 intances on the same server in order to replicate in lab the real environnment (failover local cluster) without deploying two servers.
I've seen on the installation guide that installing both a local and regional server on a single machine is supported, but what about two local servers working as a failover pair?
up to date, we've managed to install both installs, the dhcp servers are configured for using different interfaces and web gui are listening in different ports. scp ports have been changed (1234 and 4321 ) and, on dhcp-server expert configuration: failover-remote-port and failover-port are configured to be different (677 - 678 in one , and 678 - 677 in the other)
We can manage both servers from DHCP - failover configuration, as they show up and running, and even see logs... The other configs are

    Hi,
We are planning to install second instance of Oracle 11gR2 in Linux server 2.6.39-400.21.1.el6uek.x86_64 x86_64. This is something we never haven done before. If you have such experience, please give us some insight.
The existing instance has all the standard ports:
    Connecting to (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=)(PORT=1521))
Enterprise Manager Console HTTP Port (pterpdb02) = 1158
    Enterprise Manager Agent Port (pterpdb02) = 3938
What ports should we select for second listener and enterprise manager? Is there anything else that we need to know before we install the second instance? If you want a second database instance, no additional installation is required - as long as you want to run the second instance at the same version as the the first. Just fire up dbca and create the second database. One installation of Oracle (one ORACLE_HOME) is capable of supporting many database instances, though the same may or may not be said of the hardware it is running on.
As already said, one listener is enough. One listener, running from one oracle home, using the default name of LISTENER, running on the defualt port of 1521, is quite capable of -- indeed, WAS DESIGNED TO, supporte multiple database instances of multiple versions running from multiple ORACLE_HOMEs.
One instance of dbcontrol/dbconsole will support only one database. If you do not use Grid Control (extra installation, extra license) you will need to use the emca utility or one of the options in the dbca utility to configure a seperate instance of dbcontrol for each database. Don't worry about the ports, the creation utility will take care of it and report what it does.

    Hi All,
We are using SVG to use graphics elements in web page for our product. The web page contains HTML+SVG elements.
If we use an HTML Image element in our web page display and if we draw or configure SVG elements like rectangle or circle over the image element, then on viewing it in browser, the html image element overlaps the SVG elements and they get hidden behind the image.

We have tried all possible and valid IE settings and properties to make the display work. But its helpless. The SVG plugin is also installed properly on systems. But still the display is not as intended.
I have attached the working scenario screenshot and non working scenario screenshot
The screenshot here contains an html image which is showing text as Incom tax department and on top of it is SVG element rectangle. This is viewed in Windows XP in IE 7 browser
This screenshot contains the same page above but when viewed in Windows 2003 IE 7 browser. The SVG rectangle is overlapped by the html image element here

    Hi everybody,
I want to share critical information between two applications (medical information about patients) using JMS queues, moreover due to this criticity i was planning to secure this communication using SSL. The problem is that one of the client applications, because of his architecture, have problems when accessing the JMS queues.
But I have to say that both applications will run in the same server (physical machine), knowing that, what kind of security problems could we encounter if, finnally we don't cypher the communication?
I guess that the danger is lower than if the two applications would run in different machines, wouldn't it?
    Thanks!!!

  • How to deploy Forms, Reports and Menu from Client to Server machine

    Dear Experts,
I have one requirement to deploy the Forms, Reports and Menu from client machine to server machine.
Deployment involves the following steps :
    1. Firstly we have to search the selected file in a folder where the .fmx is present ( in Server machine) and take the back up of the the existing file in the server (Source and destination paths will be available).
Ex. If the existing FMB name is TEST.fmx then the backup file should be TEST_sysdate.fmx.
    2. Secondly we have to transfer the file from the client folder (or from another folder of the same server) to the server folder where the back up exists.
Please help me to search/rename/copy/replace the _.fmx/.rdf/.rep/.mmx_ files from client to server.
    We are using

    10g Forms and reports.
    SQL Developer tool.
OS is Windows (Client and Server).
Help me out to attach a file of front end screen which we are planning to develop. It will give a clear picture on this requirement.

Welcome to the forum. Please take a while to go through the FAQ to be found to the top right of the page.
Your issue is more to do with batch files rather than Forms. The only relation with Forms, as I see it, is that you will be using HOST/CLIENT_HOST to start a batch file with the file name to be deployed as a parameter passed to it.
You need to rewrite either a CMD batch file or a Powershell script to achieve what have set out to do.
For CMD batch files look up http://www.robvanderwoude.com/battech.php , or any of the other excellent resources available on the internet.

  • COPY DATABASE ON THE SAME UNIX MACHINE

    제품 : ORACLE SERVER
    작성날짜 : 1997-10-10
    INTRODUCTION
The following article deals with creating a copy of a database on the same
unix machine. A database might need to be copied in order to duplicate the
production system, for example for testing purposes. It is recommended that
the reader refer also to the following documentation:
    -Oracle 7 Server Administrators Guide
Performing full backups: Chapter 18 page 18-7
    OVERVIEW OF PROCEDURE
Before copying the database to a new location, it is necessary to perform
a full cold backup of the database, whilst the database is shutdown. This
will ensure that no data will be lost if the copying of the database is
    unsuccessful.
    WARNING
Creating a copy of a database involves usage of the CREATE CONTROLFILE command
(explained below). If this command is not executed correctly it could corrupt
the production database. If this happens, and if the files in question are
important, this will mean that the original database will need to be restored
    from a backup.
Note: If you are using Oracle 7.1.6 on Sun Solaris 2.X there is a serious
bug with CREATE CONTROLFILE. Call Oracle Worldwide Support asking for
    details of <Bug:274054> before proceeding.
    1. OBTAIN DATABASE INFORMATION FROM CONTROLFILE
In order to move the database, it is necessary to create a script containing
information about the files of the database.
This is done by executing the following commands.
    a. SQLDBA
    b. CONNECT INTERNAL, STARTUP MOUNT
    c. ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE RESETLOGS;
This will create a trace file in the trace file directory. The file
will have the extension .trc, and is located either in the directory
defined by the initialization parameter 'user_dump_dest', or, if
this is not defined, in ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/log. The file should be
copied to a name such as ccf<NEW_SID>.sql, where <NEW_SID> is to be
the ORACLE_SID of the copied database.
    2. IDENTIFY FILES TO BACKUP/COPY
    a. Identify database and log files
The CREATE CONTROLFILE command in the file ccf<NEW_SID>.sql can then be
used to identify the various database files and redo log files that need
to be backed up. The file names will be in single quotes and separated
by commas after the words LOGFILE and DATAFILE, e.g:
CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "FRITZ" RESETLOGS ARCHIVELOG
    MAXLOGFILES 6
    MAXLOGMEMBERS 2
    MAXDATAFILES 10
    MAXINSTANCES 1
    MAXLOGHISTORY 100
    LOGFILE
    GROUP 1 (
    '/oracle/tberryha/fritz/log_disk1/fritzlog1v713.dbf',
    '/oracle/tberryha/fritz/log_disk2/fritzlog1v713.dbf'
    ) SIZE 50K,

    ) SIZE 50K

    '/oracle/d2/V7141/dbs/x' SIZE 1M
It is also possible to obtain a listing of the files of the database
by executing the following sql commands:
    SQLPLUS username/password
Note: The user must have sufficient privileges to be able to see
the dba views 'sys.dba_data_files', 'sys.v$logfile' and in addition
    the database must be open.
    SPOOL files.log
    SELECT file_name FROM sys.dba_data_files ORDER BY tablespace_name;
    SELECT member FROM sys.v$logfile
    SPOOL OFF
Note: This will create a spool file called 'files.log' which
will record the results of the previous commands.
    b. Identify controlfiles
This can be done either by referring to the init<SID>.ora
'control_files' parameter, or from 7.0.16 onwards, the table
sys.v$controlfile can be used to identify the controlfiles of the
    database via the following statement:
    SPOOL control.log
    SELECT name FROM v$controlfile;
    SPOOL OFF
This will create a file called control.log in the current directory
which will contain the names of the controlfiles for the database.
    3. BACKUP EXISTING DATABASE
Shutdown instance via SQLDBA, SHUTDOWN NORMAL, and then take full cold
    backup of:
    a. All the files identified in step 2 above.
    b. All parameter files.
Note: the main parameter file will usually be called init<SID>.ora, in
addition to which there may also be other parameter files. These will
be identified by 'ifile' (included file) parameters in the init<SID>.ora.
These additional parameter files are usually called config<SID>.ora.
    4. MAKE A COPY OF THE DATABASE
Copy all parameter files, controlfiles, and all files noted in step 1 above
to their new location taking care to preserve ownership and permissions.
When the database has been copied, it will not be possible to use the same
SID and therefore the ORACLE_SID environment variable must
be changed to a new SID, and the copied init<SID>.ora must be
renamed to init<NEW_SID>.ora, and any parameter files pointed to by an
'ifile' parameter (e.g. parameter files such as config<SID>.ora) should be
    renamed to incorporate the NEW_SID (i.e. config<NEW_SID>.ora).
    5. SET UP PARAMETER FILES FOR THE COPIED DATABASE
Edit the value of the control_files parameter in the init<NEW_SID>.ora to be
the name and location that you want to use for the new control files.
The controlfiles should be given a different name to distinguish them from
the old database. In addition, change the DB_NAME parameter in the
init<NEW_SID>.ora to be an appropriate name for the new database. Any
'ifile' parameters of the parameter file will need to be edited to point to
the new name of the include file in the new location.
    6. PREPARE THE 'CREATE CONTROLFILE COMMAND' FOR THE COPIED DATABASE
In order to establish the new database in the new location, the CREATE
CONTROLFILE command in the file ccf<NEW_SID>.sql should be executed. The
following steps illustrate how CREATE CONTROLFILE command is prepared.
    a. The file ccf<NEW_SID>.sql must be edited before use. The CREATE
CONTROLFILE command will be preceded by a series of comments and a
STARTUP NOMOUNT command. These need to be stripped out of the file. In
addition, after the create controlfile command, there will be a number
of comments and the commands RECOVER DATABASE and ALTER DATABASE OPEN,
which should also be stripped out, leaving just the create controlfile
    command itself.
    b. The CREATE CONTROLFILE command itself should also be edited. Change
the CREATE CONTROLFILE command in 'ccf<NEW_SID>.sql' to have the new
database name, and add the word 'SET', e.g:
CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE DATABASE "olddbname" RESETLOGS
    becomes
CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE set DATABASE "newdbname" RESETLOGS
    c. The CREATE CONTROLFILE command also specifies the files which make up
the database, and these must also be changed to name the files of the
new database in the new location, e.g:
    LOGFILE
    GROUP 1 (
    '/old_path/old_logfile_name1',
    '/old_path/old_logfile_name2'
    ) SIZE 50k
    would become:
    LOGFILE
    GROUP 1 (
    '/new_path/new_logfile_name1',
    '/new_path/new_logfile_name2'
    ) SIZE 50k
    and
    DATAFILE
    '/old_path/old_file_name1' SIZE 5M,
    '/old_path/old_file_name2' SIZE 10M
    would become:
    DATAFILE
    '/new_path/new_file_name1' SIZE 5M,
    '/new_path/new_file_name2' SIZE 10M
    7. EXECUTE THE 'CREATE CONTROLFILE' COMMAND FOR THE COPIED DATABASE
Having prepared the create controlfile script, it is now necessary to run
the script from within the new instance. This is done by executing the
    following:
    a. at the operating system prompt, change the value of the environment
variable ORACLE_SID from OLD_SID to NEW_SID. This can be done by using
the following unix command from within the C shell:
    %setenv ORACLE_SID NEW_SID
    b. SQLDBA
    c. CONNECT INTERNAL, STARTUP NOMOUNT PFILE=/<full path>/init<NEW_SID>.ora
    d. @ccf<NEW_SID>
Note: if any files which should be specified in the CREATE CONTROLFILE
command are omitted, these files cannot be added to the new database
at a later date. In addition, if any of the files specified in the
CREATE CONTROLFILE command are NOT changed from their original names,
then the corresponding files of the original database will become part
of the copied database, and it will not be possible to restore them to
the original database. If this happens, and if the files in question
are important, this will mean that the original database will need to
    be restored from a backup.
    e. ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS
    8. MAKE A FULL COLD BACKUP OF THE COPIED DATABASE
SHUTDOWN and take a full cold backup of the database in the new location.
The full cold backup can be done as detailed in steps 2 and 3.

    Thanks Peter,
But in such a case do we need to configure the WSL in the ubb file and set environment
variables like WSNADDR, WSENVFILE etc .etc. for the WS client.

    vipul,
    Yes.
In fact, you don't even need 2 installs. If you do a server installation
    of
Tuxedo onto your UNIX machine, and build all the clients with the buildlcient
    -w
option, then the clients will use /WS libraries, instead of the native
    ones, to
    contact Tuxedo.
    Regards,
    Peter.

like WS clients and not native clients.
