Spool SELECT query output in unix

Dear All,
I have a requirement to spool out the data from a table into a log file and send it as an email.
In my unix shell script, this is what I am doing:
set def off;
set echo off
spool mail_text.log
begin
SELECT *  FROM table1;
end;
spool off;
/usr/lib/sendmail -v <mail_id> < mail_text.logOn running the shell script, I get an error -
SELECT * FROM table1;
ERROR at line 2:
ORA-06550: line 2, column 1:
PLS-00428: an INTO clause is expected in this SELECT statement
if I am to use INTO clause, how would I spool out the data?

Try this

    Hi,
    In Unix you should use query.sh instead of query.cmd
    In your case then the command would be smething like:
    query.sh -s -c -l "select * from 'dist-example'" >myOutput.txt
    You can also try using '>>' instead of '>' in order to redirect to a text file.

    Hi,
    How to represent the different values in the same table column as an output in the separate columns using the select query ?
    For example,
    Table "A" has column "col1"
    col1 contains values as below:
    col1
    ====
    1
    2
    3
    4
    5
    now want to display the above column values as a separate column as the output.
    col_alias1 col_alias2 col_alias3 col_alias4 col_alias5
    1 2 3 4 5
    How it can be done ?

    But the output I was looking for was,

    Iam using hp unix with oracle 11g
    when i try to spool 26 lack records it is giving me error
    " There is not enough memory available now.
    O/S Message: Broken pipe"
    is there is any other way SQL commands, we can limit the SELECT query to spool specific number of times other than using

    I know it can be done at SQL prompt using spool command, but
    don't know how it can be done from within PL/SQL procedure without using cursors

    Hi Pramod,
    Why don't u try with use of UTL FILE.
    select the necessary values into some local variables.
    With the use of utl_file.fopen open a file.
    And use utl_file.put_line to write the values
    in to the file.
    Try it and let me know.

  • To lock the output of a SELECT query

    Hi,
    I want to lock the output of a SELECT query to some transaction.
    I have wriiten it as follows , the output of the query is a single row;
    SELECT empname
    FROM employees
    where empid = 100
    FOR UPDATE;
    Specifying only FOR UPDATE is proper or do i need to specify some more clause ??

  • Fill a text box or other in a form with output of a select Query

    Hi
    Does anyone know if you can fill an object with an output from a select query on a form. I am trying to display a piece of data on a form , that is related to the data on the form. I do not need to edit this peice of data.
    The version of PORTAL i am using does not support forms created on views.
    Is this possible!!

  • Want to See Selected Input Variables in the query output

    My client gives a requirment like they want to see selected variables in the query output. Like suppose if i am  entering Profit center, controlling area, version, caldayas a input on the screen. Now they want to see only Profit center and version on the query result.
    Please let me know if any one has this solution.

    But it is not neccessary that we can put something in free char and all. Inspite of that they wanted to select the input variable as per their requirement. They dont want to restrict them in Free char.

    for your own reports (beginning with z and y)and queries this should be no problem. Create a program, which makes your demanded heading,  and include it to your reports.

  • Inserting Selection Criteria in Query Output

    Hello guys
    How can I insert a "Selection Criteria" for a query in its output. The final outcome should be:
    1. The user runs the query.
    2.The Selection Criteria pops up. The user enter the values. Then executes the query.
    3. The query is displayed:
    a. It has the Free Charcteristics in the left hand side top corner.
    b. The query results below it.
    c. And on the top, in the middleof the query, over the results area, the selction criteria should be displayed like:
          <b>                          Plant : 0353
         Free                     Material : Empty Demarcation
    Characteristics          Fiscal year / Period : 001/2007
                         Query Output</b>
    Can this be done in BEx? Do i need a create a workbook? how do i do this?

    Hi Prasad,
       Create a workbook so that you will be able to  place  results at defined locations.
    For displaying  all selection criteria in the workbook  choose layout >  Display Text Elements . Delete the text elements that you do not wish to display.
