Spotty Wi-fi support

Is anybody else having spotty wi-fi support ?. Sometimes it works, other times it can't connect in the same area. I'm using a Belkin 802.11g wireless router. I never have connection problems with laptops or my Palm TX in my house.
I can keep the Touch in the exact same locaton & it usually takes 1 or 2 touches of the refresh button before my mail is pulled down.
I don't know why the Touch has intermittent connection problems.

I run the same router and it is pretty much flawless with my touch. The Linksys at your office, unless it has the very latest firmware installed, can be a major pita with Apple devices.
Let's concentrate on your home WiFi. If you can drag a laptop around with you when you get the signal dropouts, check and see what the laptop is indicating for a signal strength. If it has dropped as well on the laptop, I would suspect the router. If a router reset makes it go away, then you might want to did out the receipt and get a new one - assuming it is still under warranty.
If you are running WEP encryption, do yourself a favor and switch it to WPA2-psk. It is far more secure and is easier to implement across multiple devices as a good, solid 8-14 character password will protect your network from just about everything.
On the touch, I would try the following:
1. Reset your network settings - tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
2. Log back onto your network using Settings > Other Network and retyping your SSID, tell it what you are using for security, and reentering your password.
Good luck and write back if problems persist.

  • Apparently I am not a real person.

Hi! I was looking for a general complaint or feedback area, the customer service people told me that the only way I could complain would be to go to the feedback section here.
Now, it looks like I won't even be able to manage that.
Okay, lets back up a bit.
Back on the 6th (today as I'm writing this it's the 18th) I had enough with AT&T, Steve Jobs, and Apple, and I decided that it was time to give another company a crack at my business.
So, I wander into my local Verizon store.  I ask what's available, and what makes them so amazing.
Two hours later, they’ve sold me on the latest and greatest 'Droid X', everyone is all smiles, and with enough accessories to choke a horse my bank account has a $500 hole in it.
An investment? sure, but I've been assured that in 3 (4 on the outside) days I'll have the greatest smart phone that all the sales people love!
    So I wait.
3 days.  (They did say it could take 4)
4 days. (Huh. maybe it takes an extra day to process the original order? I went in early, but maybe it's Eastern Standard Time or something)
5 days. (Patience is a Virtue.)
1 week (maybe it was 3-4 business days, and was last Wednesday a Jewish holiday? I can never keep track. Well, it's not like I can complain that there are too many holidays in the world.)
2 weeks (this is the longest 3 days ever.)
I decide that maybe I should check on things. Because patient though I may be; if there's a problem I'd like to get it addressed.
So, I go back to my local Verizon store. Interestingly enough, this time I get no smiles.
Hi! I'd like to check on what's taking my phone so long to get to me.
Apparently it's popular. Okay, I understand that. After all, the popularity of Verizon may have had an influence on getting me to walk through the front door.  And it's not like I want them to take a cell phone case, a charger, and a Swiss army knife into the back room and magic something together for me.  But you know, a little understanding would be appreciated.
Me: That phone I ordered, that was suppose to get to me in three, or maybe four days, has not shown up for two weeks.
Them: Oh, you ordered a popular phone.
Me: Well, you said that people that ordered them on the 9th have gotten them, is there any way you can speed up the process?
    Them: No.
Me: Can I get a firm delivery date?
    Them: No.
Me: Can I get an estimation of a delivery date?
Them: You should get a firm date by the 24th.
Me: That’s like another week from now.
    Them: yup.
Me: So, I’ll know in a week, a total of three weeks after I placed the original order WHEN the phone I paid for will show up.  But you took my $500 two weeks ago. I paid that money to get away from AT&T, the spotty service, questionable support, and heavy handed DRM. And here I am, still using my old phone, and my old service, that I’m still paying for as well.  Please tell me that there is SOMETHING you can do to make this wait worth my while? 10 free minutes added onto my plan? I can’t access them without a phone, but it would be nice to know they are there. Perhaps you can sneak an extra GB of memory onto the chip in my phone? Something? Anything?
    Them: No.
Me: Okay, well: I guess I gave you a fair shake at my business, if you aren’t going to treat me any better than that, selling me a phone you can’t deliver, and not even attempting to keep me interested in waiting; I’d like to just wash the slate clean. Let’s void the transaction and I’ll take my money someplace else.
    Them: You can’t do that.
Me: What? I have the receipt here, the horse choking bag of accessories is right here too. They aren’t opened, because I didn’t have a phone to put them on. You just said that you aren’t even remotely close to shipping the phone. Cancel the order, and we’ll go our separate ways, nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Them: You have to keep your accessories, and wait for the phone to show up (some time after the 24th, no guarantees you understand) bring it into the store at that point. THEN we can attempt to process a return, minus restocking fees.
Me: Restocking fees? Really? I asked you to cancel the order now, so you don’t have to deal with any stock or restocking issues. But you can’t do that, You can’t tell me when the phone is shipping, You can’t make the wait worth my time, You can’t even cancel the order; because you need to wait for me to get it, so you can charge me restocking fees.
Them: That’s the way it works.
Me: I am un-impressed with your service. It looks as if you are holding my money hostage. Who do I complain to?
Them: You can’t do that either.
    Me: wait… what?
    Them: You aren’t a customer.
Me: … taking my money doesn’t make me a customer?  I … I honestly don’t know what to say to that. How is that even possible? Have you ever heard of Webster’s Dictionary?
Them: You are a ‘new’ customer, and your account won’t be created until you get the phone. So, we can’t process any complaints.
    Me: That I can’t cancel.
    Them: Yes.
    Me: So, let me get this straight: from the top;
    1)      The phone will take three weeks to get me a tracking number, or an estimated delivery date.
    2)      This extension from three days to over three weeks grants me no upgrade in shipping priority, no promotional keychain fobs, or any other special consideration.
    3)      You can not cancel this order, even though it hasn’t shipped, and when I get it, and when I bring it in so you ‘can’ cancel it, you will charge me a restock fee.
    4)      I can not register a formal complaint, because I’m not a real customer.
    5)      You took my money, but I can’t get a phone. I can’t get my money back, and I can’t talk to anyone about it.
    Them: Yes.
So, eventually I got a phone number to the corporate people. I spent some quality time talking to them, and they were nice enough to ‘tentatively’ offer a $50 voucher or so (no promises, I have to ask nicely again, once I’m a real customer). That I can’t officially pick up until I get the phone, but at least it’s something.
Apparently, (I did not know this) the individual stores are some sort of sovereign entity completely apart from the Verizon corporation, and they get to make their own arrangements on things like this.
Also; I was directed to the website to leave ‘feedback’, to try to warn people from using the particular retailer that seems so intent on bamboozling me. Because I can do at least THIS without being a ‘real’ customer.
So: Here I am on the official Verizon corporate website. Feedback? I do a search. Searching for “feedback” gets me results about the documentation on phone antenna messing with car stereo speakers. Typing in “complaint” got me a short list of phones (I guess I should be glad I didn’t order one of the ones listed, apparently they are high complaint items) and eventually after 15 minutes of furious mouse clicking I found this forum, where people are complaining; and where other people, who also have complaints, can offer me solace that I am at least not alone in my misery.
So: to all of you who are reading this: do not go to the Riverside California Galleria at Tyler Mall Verizon store. They are{please keep your posts courteous} there. Although, I’m getting the feeling that if you are reading this; you’ve already been there.
    I feel your pain.

lol yea verizon sucks, and i can't tell you how many horrible experiences i've had with a number of different verizon stores.  it's gonna be like that no matter where you go.  i live in new jersey and in my whole area, there's only ONE verizon store where things are decent.  just decent.  HOWEVER.  i recently upgraded my phone to the chocolate touch at a verizon kiosk in a sam's club.  my experience was WONDERFUL.  since the kiosk is privately owned they can make up their own rules so i got the chocolate touch for FREE which i haven't seen anywhere, i got a bunch of accessories, also for FREE, and the associate was extremely nice.  he was very helpful, and set everything up before i left.  at a kiosk!  who knew?!  i have also had pretty decent experiences at other verizon wireless kiosks as well.

  • Error while rendering menus/slideshows--HELP!!

Ok. I've done my homework on this forum and the Mac help pages and nothing fixes this problem.
Initial issue: I have an iDVD project with pictures in drop zones, audio in the background, two menu pages each with 3-4 movies (both .dv and .mpg4), and a menu page with nothing but background audio and text.
While trying to create a disk image I received the (familiar to this board) error that there was an "Error while rendering menus/slideshows" and that burning was to be aborted.
    What I tried:
I cleared 41 gigs of free space on my boot drive.
I transfered all of my media files onto the boot drive.
I verified and repaired permissions. (until I did these last two items, the program wouldn't just fail, it would crash my computer, giving me the multilanguage *you must restart* greyed out page).
I downloaded the most recent quicktime, iTunes, and Mac OS updates.
I created a new iDVD project with only one video file (sepearately tried just a .dv and .mpg4 file).
I removed all quicktime extensions from my 'library/quicktime' and '~library/quicktime' folders.
I changed from 'higher quality' to 'better performance'.
I told it to process in the background.
I told it to delete the rendered files when it was done.
I ran the apple hardware Test from my Apple CD.
I turned off the hard drive/screen 'sleep' settings.
I switched the video format from NTSC to PAL.
I swore and came up with multiple comically profane file names for the disk images.
Nothing. It always gives the error following the 'processing menus' portion of the rendering.
    Facts:
    iBook G4
    1.2 GHz Power PC
    1.25 GB Ram
41.77 Gigs of free hard drive on boot disk.
    iDVD v5.0.1 (625)
    iMovie HD v5.0.2 (111)
    Quicktime v7.1.5
    Mac OSX v10.4.9
I'm running into a deadline and need to have this burned!!
    *** Mac?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   1.2 G Ram

I switched the video format from NTSC to PAL.
Why in the world would you do this? You are in the
NTSC area. You must change the NTSC/PAL setting
    BEFORE you start a project.
Mostly because I don't know what it means and wanted to try anything.
All the video and audio is original content.
I ended up going to the Mac genius bar today. They said that it was a corrupted encoding file solved by a reinstall of iDvd. Sounds like a lot of people run into this problem?
On the topic of file formats... do you know why my titles look great in iMovie, but look like crap once I export them? Even if I export at "Full Quality". And is .dv better than .mpg4? I need a good primer.
    thanks,
    Ian
I suspect the problem lies in your mpg-4 content.
iMovie/iDVD have very spotty mpg-4 support. Try
    using something like VisualHub (
    http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/ ) to convert
your mpg-4 files to DV format. (You may also be
having problems with the music used in your menus.
    Where does it come from?)

  • IPhone 3g and audio systems - car or domestic

I wanted to connect ipHone 3g to stereos in house and car. i tried the 3.5mm to 3.5mm solution but then read (i have forgotten where) that connecting to audio systems via the dock (iphone and ipods) gave a better sound.
I bought dock connectors for both 3.5mm audio mini jack and for 2*RCA audio plugs. I have tried them on all systems and there is nothing, nada no sound even though i can see and hear the music on the iphone.
Can anybody confirm where i have gone wrong? I though the the 30 pin dock on the iphone 3g was configured the same as other 30 pin ipods, is this a firmware issue or am i just being stupid?

I am not sure I would recommend the PocketDock for use with the iPhone 3G. I have one and it only works with one of the three iPhone 3G's I have tested it with.
Also, Soundstation's support is horrendous. It takes them forever to reply and they do not acknowledge that their product has spotty iPhone 3G support.

  • Using Xbox 360 with iMac

    Hello,
I was hoping someone might be able to tell me if there is anyway possible to use my iMac as a screen for my Xbox 360, and if not, will there be a way to do that in the near future?
    Thank you
    SpiredArc

    hey,
i looked into this myself a while back. The elgato hybrid will enable you to play your xbox through the screen...however BEWARE... the quality of the picture is terrible. you will only be able to play your xbox on 50hz mode and even then the quality is worse than on a standard tele, let alone one with HD capabilities. i emailed elgato and asked why this was and they said:
"The EyeTV Hybrid has spotty PAL 60 support, so many X360 titles may have sync issues when played with the Hybrid. The EyeTV 250 plus has much better PAL 60 support, as it has slightly different hardware. None of our devices can capture and digitize the HD output from next-gen consoles. Consumer priced component and HDMI capture hardware hasn't really surfaced yet, so we can't make a device with those capabilities yet."
    I hope this helps.

  • I am trying to install Final cut pro studio V1.0.1 (2005) on OS X lion. I get a message "You can't open the application final cut studio.mpkg because power pc application are no longer supported

I am trying to install Final cut pro 5 studio V1.0.1 (2005) on OS X lion. I get a message "You can't open the application final cut studio.mpkg because power pc application are no longer supported. My computer is New. Is their a link I can go to get tech support?

You won't find any help at tech support ... other than telling you the facts: Intel processor Macs require FCP 5.1 or higher.  FCP 5.0 and earlier were written for PowerPC processor Macs, long before Apple switched to using Intel processors.
And then there's the issue of the OS.  OS 7 will allow FCP 7 (and sometimes even FCP 6) to work OK, but versions earlier than that have spotty operation on Lion.
Here's a brief history of full FCP versions and recommended OS compatibility:
    * = requires PPC             ** = works with both PPC and Intel                          *** = require Intel
    FCP 1.0*       OS 9
    FCP 2.0*       OS 9
    FCP 3.0*       OS 9, OS 10.1, OS 10.2
    FCP 4.0*       OS 10.2, 10.3
    FCP 4.5*       OS 10.3
    FCP 5.0*       OS 10.3 (OS 10.4?)
    FCP 5.1**     OS 10.4, 10.5
    FCP 6.0**     OS 10.4, 10.5, 10.6 (OS 10.7?)
    FCP 7.0***    OS 10.6, OS 10.7
    FCP-X***       OS 10.6, OS 10.7
Essentially, you have a newer Intel processor Mac with a new OS and very old, incompatible software.   You might be able to find a used version of Final Cut Studio 3 on sites like ebay or craigslist as it is no longer offered by Apple as an upgrade.
Alternatively, you could purchase and download FCP-X, but it is an entirely different application, sharing virtually nothing with previous versions of FCP.

  • Trouble building kernel module for sensor support

Hi, I'm new here but have been using Arch for a while.  Recently, I decided to install Arch on an old laptop (Toshiba A70) and have managed to work out most of the kinks to where it runs nicely.  Unfortunately, ACPI support is spotty and the /sys/class/thermal directory gives me only cooling_device0.  I installed the lm-sensors package and ran sensors-detect, which yielded no results.  Although the laptop runs smoothly otherwise, I would like to know the CPU's temp so that I would be able to set up a fan control scheme and CPU scaling (so far it's stuck at the lowest frequency, and that's kind of a big deal for me since the laptop runs on an archaic mobile P4 chip).
Sorry for the story but I felt some context was necessary.  I did manage to find a kernel module that would connect those sensors to ACPI for me (http://sourceforge.net/projects/omnibook/), however I'm having trouble building it on the latest kernel.  Here is the output from running make:

  • DIGEST authentication support

I have noticed that neither SunONE nor weblogic support DIGEST authentication. Tomcat appears to have spotty support as well.
Digests should be supported by all browsers that use HTTP 1.1, but yet the servlet spec makes it an optional item for web container implementors. I would love to have a good way to hide passwords entered from the browser without going whole hog (SSL).
Does anyone know why DIGEST isn't better supported by containers?

I'm not sure but I don't believe so.

  • How to email support, no outgoing calls?

How do I email customer support?
I am Manila, Philippines on global roaming, Internet is spotty and intermittent, online chat hours are the middle of the night here.  There are no Verizon stores to pop into.
All phones on my account (2 in Ph, 1 in US) have stopped making outgoing calls or text ("outgoing calls not permitted").  I have no way to call support.  The My Verizon phone app won't connect.
I am at a complete loss how to contact support for assistance getting our phones working again.

Since you can't make calls and there is no longer an option to e-mail Customer Support, I'd suggest the chat feature next ... but that won't work for you due to the time zones.  So, one option would be to contact Verizon via their Twitter account:
    VZW Support (VZWSupport) on Twitter
Another option is to contact John Bianchi; he's the VP, National Customer Service.  Maybe you could explain your situation in an e-mail and he could forward it to the appropriate contact.  To e-mail him, go to this link, scroll to the bottom and click the blue Contact John Bianchi:

  • Wmm support broken broadcom BCM43241 Vaio DUO 13

Hi Everyone, Excuse me for my bad english. I think a lot of people have discussed this issue. I will try to describe the issue I am having and the troubles I am having solving this issue. First let me describe the issue I have a Vaio DUO 13 upgraded from windows 8 64bit to windows 8.1 64bit. I used a full clean install from 8 upgrading to 8.1, afterwards installed all the newest available drivers for windows 8.1 for my DUO 13. Everything went OK till I noticed that my network traffic is irragular. First to describe and elimenate my enviroment variables. I have multiple Accesspoints in my home and travel a lot and use a lot of AP's in several situations. The brands AP's and routers I personally use are Linksys/Cisco/Mikrotik AP's there all using the latest version of firmware or modified versions. I do not have irragular behavior on 3 other vaio's who are equiped with intel nics and wlan devices also other wireless devices are do not show problems with wireless connectivity. Basically I have timeouts when using my wireless connection during meduim till heavy usage. I can reproduce this by a simple ping of 32bit to a internal device and starting a external speedtest.net session (maxes at aprox 50mbit). During initialization of the speedtest or halfway the speedtest my ping starts timing out (I have a fullduplex FTTH connection 100mbit). This doesnt happen with other devices and I can reach higher speeds (50mbit is acceptable). So I tried all drivers for the broadcom 43241 compatible with win8.1 64bit. Only the latest driver makes it a little stable but still has the problems. In short wich drivers did I use:- 5.93.97.124 VAIO- 5.93.97.168 VAIO- 5.93.97.168 Microsoft- 5.93.97.187 VAIO- 5.93.100.20 Lenovo (thinkpad 10) None of the above solve the issue, but the most stable are 97.187 from VAIO and the 100.20 from Lenovo. I am not sure if the 100.20 is just a copy of the 97.187, the higher number suggest fixes (the notes from lenovo suggest differently). To get in to more detail I tried every option available from driver versions, registry changes, netsh disabling of services, mtu sizing, fixed IP, winsock resets etc, nothing solved the issue. I also tested every combination possible with the WLAN advanced settings. If anybody is curious please read this site for references: http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles-tutorials/wireless-networking/advanced-wireless-adapter-driver-settings.html if you want to optimize your wlan adapter. I finally found the culprit, it's WMM in advanced settings of the wifi adapter. If you disable it your connection stabilizes but the sideeffect is that your connection drops for aprox 80%. WMM (WIFI QoS and power management) is necessary to use the N standard of your wifi network else your left G thats a fallback from 300mbit to 54mbit. A nicer description can be found here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_Multimedia_Extensions. After studying this issue I found a person with a simalar issue only a different user, he debugged the issue in 1,5 month together with intel (got a new driver). The issue in there case was in U-APSD powermanagement in wifi adapter. The driver of the 43241 doesnt have any possibilty to change this. So my questions are:- Does anybody have a different solution (I am open for any solution)?- Broadcom doesnt have consumer support, can VAIO force them to deliver a new driver?- VAIO stopped, do they stil upgrade/support drivers (in a case like this)?- Do I need to be patient with Lenovo and wait for patching there driver for the thinkpad 10?- Does anybody have a working stable and high bandwith driver?- Is this a question for MS?- Do I need to wait till Windows 10 and upgrade my laptop (with no supported drivers)- End up forced to Linux

I just came across this thread while troubleshooting the BCM43241 on an Asus T100 Transformer.  This is the most recent I found, and also with a lot of great information and thanks for the link on the advanced settings! I'm determined to get to this bottom of this issue because I otherwise *really like* my T100 and if I can get this chip to function correctly, I will be golden!    First thing I can mention is that I actually had it working for a while with no problems then started having issues a couple of weeks ago.  So perhaps it had something to do with a windows update. I can definitely confirm that is an issue with the Broadcom chip as I have found people griping about same problem with devices from Sony, Lenovo, and HP.  The common hardware is the chip. So far I have found these other solutions proposed in addition to the WMM issue you mentioned: Wake Up Mode --> Wake Up FrameBluetooth Collaboration --> Disable Because the issue is spotty it is difficult to tell if I currently have it resolved or not.  It might work fine for a couple of days then go out.  I've noticed the following times the wifi might go out: 1.  When start screen loads.  (Connection is fine on login screen, then breaks upon login.)2.  When sending an email from email client.  (Receiving is fine.)
    3.  Saving a downloaded file to a network drive. The other issue here you may not have recognized is with the Bluetooth.  This is a dual wifi AND bluetooth chip.  Apparently the first of its kind, and not without a ton of issues.  Anyway... the bluetooth connection will ALSO break.  Sometimes along with wifi.  Sometimes by itself.   On the other hand, I have tried turning off the bluetooth service and STILL have the issue recur. Sometimes there is also a repeated keystroke signal being registered even though no keys are depressed on the keyboard.
Also:  Reboot/power button issues. For example, will hang on "signing out" or not reboot even though reboot is selected. Then have to wait 30 seconds before power button will function normally again. So the issue seems to be something to do with how the device is distributing resources between the wifi and bluetooth functions.  But any details past this are kind of beyond my current knowledge and skillset to deal with. I also came across this page with what seems to be newer drivers, but I can't really tell where they came from, or if I should trust the source:
    http://www.station-drivers.com/index.php/component/remository/Drivers/Broadcom/Wlan/BCM-43xx-Wireless-802.11a-b-g-n/orderby,2/page,2/?Itemid=0
Finally, I also came across some threads which suggested it has something to do with the b/g/n functions on a dual band router.  I am using a dual band router.  However, when the issue occurs I cannot connect to either band. Here is the link to the thread on the Asus forum.   Hopefully we can figure this out!

  • COMCASR TELEPHONE SUPPORT

SUBJECT: Back-Up battery for residential modem, for internet and landline phone service. this message is to document the service i have received on the phone from comcast reps.. this experience has been the most miserable i have had with comcast, ever, and none of it was necessary.. i have recently signed-on with the "bundle plan": cable-tv, phone, internet.. i received the modem and other eqpt., which was connected and works o.k.. the issue came to me when i decided to purchase a back-up battery for the modem.. i was told the battery is only available to be shipped to me, and i would be billed for the battery and a shipping charge.. i disagreed with these terms.. as comcast shipped the modem and support documents to me without charge, i saw no reason to be charged for shipping & handling for the battery as well, especially if i was willing to pick-up the battery at a store or warehouse.. this is where the trouble started.. i spent 7th and 8th of july making 20 phone calls to find out why comcast chose offers to only ship the battery to customers.. why cant comcast stock the battery in a room somewhere and hand them to subscribers who drive to a comcast store? why is it a good idea to ship the battery to customers AND charge for shipping? what prevents comcast from stocking the batteries and handing them to customers, should the customer wish to pick up the battery personally? whose idea was it to offer ONLY shipping and charge the $6 to ship it? why is it important to NOT offer the customer a choice of shipping or pick-up? if comcast can ship modems, etc. w/o charge, why cant the battery be shipped w/o charge? why cant the battery company track the number of batteries shipped each month and send a bill to comcast for reimbursement? am i missing something? if comcast is supposed to serve the customer, why dont i feel "served" at being billed $6 to ship a battery, when i feel comcast could just as well hold these batteries in a good place for pick-up by users? after being misunderstood by many reps on the phone, being put on hold and the line suddenly going dead, being routed to the comcast general menu (after i dialed the number for ordering a battery, and asked to speak with someone about the policy of only shipping batteries to subscribers), i finally was routed to "tech support" where i made progress.. i spoke to a rep named "NEL", a very helpful gentleman who took me more seriously than anyone else.. instead of merely repeating the policies for buying/shipping a battery, which i had heard a dozen times, he consulted his supervisor and told me a battery would be shipped to me free-of-charge.. the reference for this order is CR 480-604-962. i wish to compliment NEL for his understanding my issue without asking me to repeat my situation over and over.. i compliment NEL for not repeating anything he said to me, unless i asked him to.. NEL is a good guy.. he should go far with comcast, unless he chooses to go somewhere else first..

Just heard that the network extenders are spotty also and posted "Thank you this is very useful, I don't want to waste that much money on something that just doesn't work (the price went up from 99 to 279 and it doesn't work!)   .
    I really appreciate the guidance!"

  • Supported Microsoft OS and Office Versions

OK, so IT has been rolling out new PC's with Windows 7 and Excel 2010, and the ability to install and run BPC has been spotty at best. We are currently running BPC 7.0.1, and from what I've heard, Windows 7 is not supported until BPC 7.5.
Does anyone have an official breakout from SAP as to what platforms of Windows and Office are supported for which versions of BPC?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Yes you are right. BPC 7 is not supported on Windows 7. Please take a look at the below link on the product availability matrix:
    https://websmp106.sap-ag.de/~form/handler?_APP=00200682500000001303&_EVENT=RELEASE&00200682500000002804=01200314690900000583&00200682500000003818=OS&00200682500000003853=BPC%20SMS%20Client
    Hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to disable support for VLV indexes?

Is it possible to disable the support for VLV indexes?
We have an application which tries to do VLV searches. We dont' have and don't want to set up any VLV index. Would it be possible to just disable support for them? Make ODSEE not advertise the control and just return "unsupported control" to the client?
    thanks - mo

I think there are a couple of ways to go about this.
IIRC the VLV control ought to exist under your config suffix as a "feature". If you look at the documentation for setting up a VLV index, you should see where the VLV configuration objects exist. One common problem users run into with the VLV objects is that they are governed by access control. That is, the bound user has to have permissions to the VLV config object in order to use the control. So - assuming you are using a version of the server that still uses this design - you should be able to disallow VLV control use by any user other than the rootdn (Directory Manager).
If your application is querying the root dse and checking whether the VLV control is supported (and then obeying what it sees there) you might be able to change the list of supported controls being returned on the root dse. I'm not sure exactly how to do this since I don't recall seeing the supported control attributes in dse.ldif, but my memory is spotty on that. In any case this solution would rely on the good behavior of your clients.
Actually, if the bound user does not have permission to use the control, there might be an argument to make that the server shouldn't return the control as supported when the root dse is queried by that user.
The best solution is probably a combination of the two complemented (ideally) with modification to the client that prevents it from sending the VLV control. Since presumably the client is sending the VLV in order to accomplish a client side task, simply causing the VLV to fail may not produce the best results from the end user's perspective.

  • Cannot install windows 8.1 on imac 5k - apple support says "Correct, that machine can't install windows" Boot camp fail

I have a brand new imac 5k, with 4ghz i7, 295x GPU, 3.1TB fusion drive.  Bought the machine so I could dual boot - I need windows for VR Dev work.
I've spent the last week and a half on tech support calls with Apple Senior Tech agents, and Microsoft agents as well, and today have been told that indeed this machine cannot run windows 8.1.  Apparently Apple engineering knows about the issue, but says the problem is microsoft's.  Ugh.
The latest iteration of the issue comes when installing 8.1 onto an external thunderbolt SSD (without even using boot camp) - I go through the EFI installer, convert the drive to GPT, format it as ntfs, but when I select the partition to install onto, the installer says it can't find the partition it just created.  Smuh?
I've also tried the install through boot camp.  This installation actually worked twice, but the install was unstable.  After booting back into osX, then returning to Windows, the windows install went corrupt and couldn't be repaired.  Subsequent attempts to install windows yielded a flurry of different errors, including "windows doesn't support GPT in this mode" or "the disk is locked, please unlock the disk" or "MBR must be converted to GPT" (where once I converted to GPT, the drive could no longer be found, despite the operation completing successfully.)
At any rate, it's a huge mess.  I'd happily return the machine for a different config, but the company I bought it from will only swap it for a similar model -- so I've spent a pile on a machine that does not function as advertised; apple says "too bad, talk to Microsoft." Microsoft says "too bad, we've never seen this, this is an apple issue."
Has anyone out there gotten windows up and running on an iMac5k with fusion drive?  If so, did you have to go through a crazy maze to make it work?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    MC

After much gnashing of teeth, and a half dozen support calls, I'd all but given up.  I finally seem to have solved this though - sort of - by installing windows 8.1 on boot camp on an older iMac, then cloning the bootcamp disk to an external thunderbolt drive via Winclone.  That worked seamlessly, sticking to winclone's instructions, and I can boot via EFI to Windows 8.1 on the new iMac.  So far so good.
I usually install W8.1 via EFI by using DU and a Free Space partition. The 3TB Fusion is first split into the underlying SSD/HDD physicals. OSX and Windows OSes are installed on SSD via EFI (no BCA). The OSX part and half the HDD are then used to create a new CS volume. The other HDD half becomes NTFS for non-Windows OS files. The Hybrid MBR method is completely unsatisfactory with the 3TB Fusion drive.
How is the TB/Winclone image for performance of the OS (since pagefile.sys is also on the TB)?
