Spring IOC issues in MVC WebApplication with JSF integration

Hello All,
I am getting null pointer exception while using spring's IOC feature in my application.
I have created one Spring + JSF Application in Eclipse ID given instruction at link http://www.javabeat.net/articles/39-integrating-spring-and-jsf-3.html.
This is working fine.
I tried to modify this code and instead of initializing the Map from the default constructor I have added below code in applicationContext.xml like
<util:map id="stockSymbolsAndValuesMap" map-class="java.util.HashMap">
<entry key="AAA" value="100"></entry>
<entry key="BBB" value="200"></entry>
<entry key="CCC" value="300"></entry>
<entry key="DDD" value="400"></entry>
<entry key="EEE" value="500"></entry>
</util:map>
and add this id's ref something like below.
<bean id="stockBean"
class="net.javabeat.articles.springjsf.introduction.StockValueFetcher">
<property name="stockBeanValue" ref="stockBean"></property>
</bean>
and modified the bean some thing like
public class StockValueFetcher {
private Map<String, String> stockSymbolsAndValues;
// with some getters and setters
while taking this map to my public String findStockValue() method I am getting null when I do stockSymbolsAndValues.containsKey(symbolName);.
I did this map injection in plain java main spring program and its working fine. So, in this case am I doing anything wrong or missing anything. Please guide me on this.
Thanks And Regards
Jaik

Hi Nithin,
We could solve this issue finally. The issue was HTTPS cookie persistence was not set at loadbalancer level. As we have two web servers behind load balancer, it seems once user authenticates with Azure AD, post back from Azure AD was happening to the server
other than the initial server which redirected the user to Azure AD intially.
Setting the HTTPS cookie persistence solved the issue.
However can you suggest if this is the only solution to fix this kind of issue. We don't want to enable this kind of sticky session on load balancer so if there is another way to fix it, it would be better.

  • Not able to create a web project with jsf or jsp or struts or spring

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a dynamic web project with jsf or jstl or struts or spring or any of web options available for a web project, but I am not able to do it.
    When I choose any of these options, the wizard asks me to "select an existing jstl/jsf/Spring 2.0 library, or click Add to add a new library." and since it doesn't show any existing libraries there, I clicked on add new library. When I click add, it opens a new dialog box where it has two options :
    1. to use spring/jstl/jsf lib from bea web site - when I choose this option, it tries to connect to the bea web site and gives me error that "connect time out". I don't know why it is not able to connect to the internet. I am not able to see the help also. There it gives error "The requested URL could not be retrieved".
    2. to use libraries from an existing spring installation - I provide the path of a directory where spring lib are, but then it gives me error that this is not a valid installation.
    On another machine, I am able to see the help contents, but still not able to get these libraries from the bea site.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sushma

    Hi Sushma,
    The issue you are facing has been addressed and will be part of the next release. For the current release, please follow the steps listed below.
    Send an email to [email protected] with details on specific facets you are trying to enable on your project.
    You will be provided with a url where you can download the required jars and details on how to manually add the jars to the workspace which will prevent the download on demand scenario.
    Cheers
    Raj

    hi.
    I had faced this behavior on weblogic 12c(12.1.1).
    Maybe This problem was solved by 12.1.2.
    But, when text item submitted together with a upload file, multibyte characters was garbage characters.
    See Multibyte character was garbage characters, when multipart requested (Multipartリクエストで文字化けが発生する) on WebLogic12(12.1.2.0)

  • Issue in JSF1.1 with jdk1.4...

    Hi All,
    I am facing a very peculiar issue. I am using JSF 1.1 with j2sdk1.4.2_10 and Tomcat 5.5.7. JSF Expression language is giving me some puzzling errors
    if I say
    value="#{varList.AInfo.BInfo.someName}
    mapped in a datatable tag like this, where varList is the ArrayList we are mapping the table to, Ainfo is a TreeMap inside it, BInfo is a TreeMap inside AInfo, and someName is a property, it complains saying that "error retrieving property someName"....This happens only on j2sdk1.4.2_10, it was working fine (it still works fine) on j2sdk1.4.2_04. I just need to change the JAVA_HOME environment variable, and the problem surfaces.
    I cannot use j2sdk1.4.2_04 because it results in a core dump elsewhere (the reason I upgraded to j2sdk1.4.2_10).
    is this a bug in JSF, or something in j2sdk1.4.2_10 that is causing it to fail?
    Can anyone help me with this?

    Hello,
    J2SE 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4 Desupported. Oracle 11R1 does not support J2SE 1.2, 1.3, and 1.4. The .zip and .jar files that support those versions of J2SE are not included in
    Oracle JDBC 11R1. If you are still using J2SE 1.2, 1.3, or 1.4 you can continue to use Oracle JDBC 10.2.0.1.0 with those versions of Java. 10gR2 is still fully supported for use with those versions
    of Java. If you want to use Oracle JDBC 11R1 you must use J2SE 5.0 or later. Using desuported version might result in errors and inconsistent performance.

    I tried the "Tutorial - Getting Started with JSF" located on http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/jsfintro/jsfintro.htm#t6, but the last part "Creating a conditional navigation" is not complete.
    There are 2 issues
    1. The return values in the code blocks in step 9 and 11 do not match with the given example code.
    2. In step 12 I am missing the way to bind this message component to returned message from the login.
    Could you please correct the code parts and add the message binding piece?
    Thanks,

  • So, in the end, is mixing JSTL with JSF ok or not?

    At first, when I began learning JSF, I was taught not to mix JSTL into JSF because it's very hard to know how will be behave.
    Then, I learned that in order to avoid the confusion completely, it was best not to use any JSTL or even better use Facelets.
    Now, I keep running into (relatively recent) articles and books claiming both that JSTL now works with JSF and that it doesn't.
    I gave it a shot by trying the famous c:forEach with h:outputText
    <c:forEach var="item" items="#{someBean.items}">
        <h:outputText value="#{item.name}" /></td>
    </c:forEach>According to my current knowledge, this is not supposed to work, and it doesn't, but since I've seen a Sun article saying that it should (if the latest components are installed, and they are), I can't be sure if I misconfigured something or...
    I've also read the following sentence (regarding the above example):
    >
    This is supposedly fixed in JSTL 1.2, but there is no stand-alone implementation of JSTL 1.2.
    >
    So, could someone with an understanding of the issue clear this up for me? I'd be very grateful.
    I'm not asking anyone to find out why my code didn't work, just if it was supposed to work at all.
    Also, I found this on onjava.com
    For instance, <c:if> and <c:choose> may contain JSF component custom actions, but only if the id attributes are set for the nested JSF component actions.It this true? Is it obsolete?
    Thanks to anyone who takes the time to share any insight.

    Thanks for the response BalusC, I'm now closer to understanding the issue. The only thing still bothering me is this code (taken from Sun's webtiersample.jsp)
    <c:forEach items="#{BooksBean.books}" var="book" varStatus="stat">
         <tr>
              <td>
               <h:outputText id="title" value="#{book.title}"/>
           </td>
             <td>
               <h:outputText id="author" value="#{book.author}"/>
             </td>
         </tr>
    </c:forEach>Won't this cause an id clash? I mean, doesn't this mean I'll have multiple "title" and "author" ids?
    This seems to confirm the statement I quoted earlier (from onjava.com):
    For instance, <c:if> and <c:choose> may contain JSF component custom actions, but only if the id attributes are set for the nested JSF component actions.Mind you, I don't really plan to use JSTL in JSF, but I really wish to understand this...
    Thank you very much for taking the time.

  • Test driven development with JSF possible?

    Hi,
    I got two questions:
    Is it possible to just make use of the HTML generation part of JSF, meaning creating the component tree and somehow triggering the generation of HTML for that view, without using a custom view handler?
    Second, is it possible to create a component tree OUTSIDE the webcontainer and have it generate HTML for test driven development (JUnit tests not HttpUnit)? Even if it would mean using a mock FacesContext? We do something similar for our code that relies on a plain Servlet context, but because of the request processing lifecycle and all the value/method binding I'm not sure if the same can be done with JSF...
    Thanks in advance,
    Raymond Brandon

    I've looked into these issues some. I specifically wanted a harness for custom controls, per your second request, and a way to do UI unit tests.
    I didn't find much to aid in getting the former to happen and it seemed that creating mocks would be a huge hassle. As for the latter, I did find that there are cactus-based tests in the source code that Sun released, and there are some classes for making JSF testing easier, but the tests they have of their own code are surprisingly thin, and there doesn't appear to be an easy way to just grab a jar or two and start doing your own container tests. The Gamma/Beck book Contributing to Eclipse shows examples of writing UI unit tests that would be hugely useful.

  • Very big problem with JSF about FORM and "id=" for HTML form's elements and

    I have discovered a very big problem with JSF about FORM and "id=" for HTML form's elements and java instruction "request.getParameterNames()".
    Suppose you have something like this, to render some datas form a Java Beans :
    <h:dataTable value="#{TablesDb2Bean.myDataDb2ListSelection}" var="current" border="2" width="50%" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2" style="text-align: center">
    <h:column>
    <f:facet name="header">
    <h:outputText value="Name"/>
    </f:facet>
    <h:outputText id="nameTableDb2" value="#{current.db2_name_table}"/>
    </h:column>
    </h:dataTable>
    Everything works fine...
    Suppose you want to get the name/value pairs for id="nameTableDb2" and #{current.db2_name_table} to process them in a servlet. Here is the HTML generated :
    <td><span <span class="attribute-name">id=<span class="attribute-value">"j_id_jsp_1715189495_22:0:nameTableDb2">my-table-db2-xxxxx</span></td>
    You think you can use the java instructions :
    Enumeration NamesParam = request.getParameterNames();
    while (NomsParam.hasMoreElements()) {
    String NameParam = (String) NamesParam.nextElement();
    out.println("<h4>"++NameParam+ "+</h4>);
    YOU ARE WRONG : request.getParameterNames() wants the syntax *name="nameTableDb2" but JSF must use id="nameTableDb2" for "<h:outputText"... So, you can't process datas in a FORM generated with JSF in a Servlet ! Perhaps I have made an error, but really, I wonder which ?

    While I certainly appreciate ejb's helpful responses, this thread shows up a difference in perspective between how I read the forum and how others do. Author ejb is correct in advising you to stay inside JSF for form processing if form processing is what you want to do.
    However, I detect another aspect to this post which reminds me of something Marc Andreesen once said when he was trying to get Netscape off the ground: "there's no such thing as bad HTML."
    In this case, I interpret ungar's request as a new feature request. Can I phrase it like this?
    "Wouldn't it be nice if I could render my nice form with JSF but, in certain cases, when I REALLY know what I'm doing" just post out to a separate servlet? I know that in this case I'll be missing out on all the nice validation, conversion, l10n, i18n, ajax, portlet and other features provided by JSF".
    If this is the case, because it really misses the point of JSF, we don't allow it, but we do have an issue filed for it
    https://javaserverfaces-spec-public.dev.java.net/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=127
    If you can't wait for it to be fixed, you could decorate the FormRenderer to fix what you want.
    I have an example in my JSF book that shows how to do this decoration. http://bit.ly/edburnsjsf2

  • Shortest path to get started with JSF project

    Hello,
    I am looking for a path of least resistance (or effort) to get started with JSF. This is really an add to the "JSP due diligence" thread that I started but with a specific question. At this time, I am primarily interested in implementing an MVC framework. The components of JSF seem interesting and I think will be valuable to us, but it would be too much to bite off at this time. So, could I implement JSF with my JSP pages (with code to use the backing beans but my own html components) and then later add JSF components as the next step? Perhaps this is non sensical but appreciate you saying that so I know how much effort is involved.
    Thanks!
    Priya

    Trying to use JSF without the JSF components sounds like it would be harder. Much of the benefit of JSF is the binding of bean properties to component values.

  • Never ending Probelms with JSF

    Hi,
    I was just wondering if JSF is all hype but has no real value in it.
    I have been using for about 3 months. I have faced problems with it at almost every stage.
    1. Validators / Converters are not mature ( Why there is no attempt to integrate mature stuff like Commons-Validator which is already available. I am sure that every one of us agrees that vadation is very important for all web applications. I am aware that it possible to implement custom validators with JSF. But I feel the most comonly used ones should be available off the shelf.
    2. Consider
    <h:inputText id="text2" value="Please enter your text" rendered="false"/>
    If the rendered attribute cannot take a runtime expression value ... what is good for or what is the prupose behind having such an attribute ..... !!!!. This is just one instance there are many situations like this.
    I need to be able to choose whether a text field is rendered or not based on boolean value that is available as request attribute.
    3. There are innumerable probelms when we Tiles with JSF components.. For example if we have html content interleaved between JSF component tags. ... The Layout inspite of having proper definitions does not get rendered properly....The implementation of JSF Panel Grid is too restritced...
    4. There are many people out there implementing JSF components but they are buggy / incomatible with other implementations.... take for example ourfaces , myfaces , JSF reference implementation and Oracle's ADF are NOT compatible with each other... so what is this all about...
    Does anybody here have an idea as to how much time it would take for JSF to become stable enough to be used for Production applications...
    Any comments / suggestions are welcome
    Thanks in advance,

    If the rendered attribute cannot take a runtime
    expression value ... what is good for or what is the
    prupose behind having such an attribute ..... !!!!.
    This is just one instance there are many situations
    like this."rendered" does support dynamic values; just use #{} EL expressions.
    I need to be able to choose whether a text field is
    rendered or not based on boolean value that is
    available as request attribute.
    3. There are innumerable probelms when we Tiles with

    interleaved between JSF component tags. ... The Layout
    inspite of having proper definitions does not get
    rendered properly....The implementation of JSF Panel
    Grid is too restritced...I think you're describing two separate problems here:
    (1) Needing <f:verbatim> is annoying. We (the EG) know; we're working on it.
    (2) More panel renderers would be good; you can look to component libraries (ADF Faces as one) for additional layouts.
    4. There are many people out there implementing JSF
    components but they are buggy / incomatible with other
    implementations.... take for example ourfaces ,
    myfaces , JSF reference implementation and Oracle's
    ADF are NOT compatible with each other... so what is
    this all about...OK, hold up here. There's some lump of claims here, and I don't know what you're specifically saying. It sounds as though you're saying component developers are writing buggy code, and therefore don't work with every implementation. With regards to Oracle's ADF Faces, we of course work with the JSF RI. We're close to working with MyFaces, but there's some issues remaining in MyFaces (perhaps already resolved) that block this. These aren't ADF Faces bugs. Expecting MyFaces to be perfectly compatible when it is not yet certified or described as production level is infeasible.
    (I can't speak for ourfaces.)

    It is not much information to go on, but it smells like a library confict issue. There must be more to the stacktrace you are getting, please post the entire thing.
    Do you maybe have multiple implementations of facelets floating around? For example, is there a facelets library present in the server while you are also deploying one with your application?
    I'm sorry but it is hard to give any hard information without access to your system :( I would suggest you do some google searches, for example pasting error messages you are getting into google and seeing what you get.

  • Problem with JSF AJAX portlets

    I am seeing the following issues with JSF portlets
    1) When you AJAX enable the portlet, they will not work. There are some javascript errors on the component we are using. They work fine if we don't AJAX enable them
    2) I had 2 portlets. 1 JSF and 1 pageflow portlet. If I click on a link in pageflow portlet and after the page gets refreshed, nothing will work in JSF potlet. Again javacript errors
    If we had only 1 portlet on the page, JSF portlet works fine
    Do you think the prototype javacript library used in the portal causing any issues?

    I tried with <naming:namingContainer> immediatly after the f:view tag , but still getting same errors

    Please help me in configuring JSF 1.2.

    If you are new to JSF, then I'd try and simplify the environment in which you are working as the first step to achieving a successful outcome.
    JSF 1.2 is a certified and well tested component of WLS, so we know it works. I'm not sure of the effect of all those additional modules you are adding in there -- it appears as if you have gotten a Faces implementation instantiated, but there could be some form of version difference/conflict since it can't find a method its looking for.
    Using Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse (http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oepe/oepe_11115.html) you can build yourself out a pretty simple JSF application to get started from and deploy it to a WLS server. This would remove all the additional libraries you currently have, provide you with a bundled applicaton to deploy and give you a pretty good environment from which you can learn and experiment with JSF.
