Spring + JSF: Repetitive  XmlWebApplicationContext refreshing

I am using Spring with JSF to handle some back-end database connectivity. I load several spring XML config files that hold bean information. Each time I access my JSF page, the XmlWebApplicationContext refreshes about 7 times and each individual config file gets loaded 7 times with the message:
Loading XML bean definitions from class path resource [../myfolder/beans1.xml]
Loading XML bean definitions from class path resource [../myfolder/beans2.xml]
Loading XML bean definitions from class path resource [../myfolder/beans3.xml]
Am I doing something wrong? Should it be reloading these files so many times with every page hit?

I think you cannot use this tutorial with the new Spring 2.5 framework. If you look at the javadoc you see that RootBeanDefinition and GenericBeanDefinition extend AbstractBeanDefinition, and the context wants the RootBeanDefinition, so it's not enough to only implement the InitializingBean interface.

  • PDF preview in Spring/JSF?

    Hi,
i wanna preview a pdf file in my Spring/JSF application.
    Is this possible?
    Thanx

Preview? Do you just mean displaying inline? Yes, that is certainly possible. Just stream the PDF contents to the response and set the content disposition to inline.

  • Integration of Spring, JSF as a view through portlets...

I am trying to integrate Spring and JSF as a View. Furthermore I am trying to run this combination within a Portlet environment. I have got as far as been able to display the components by the url on the form post is not the portlet action URL as it should be. Can someone look at this thread and perhaps propose a next step.

  • Spring & JSF - myFaces?

    Hello guys,
I'm new to JSF, so anyone feeling nice enough to answer, please keep it 'simple' :-)
Anyway, the situation is as follows:
I've got a pretty basic project. Bunch of tables, a bunch of pojo's, dao's...
    Technologies I'm using:
    Spring 2.x
    MySQL & Tomcat 6
    Toplink
    myFaces
So I'm able to create my business logic, wire everything into Spring and create some nice GUI's using Swing.
I'm using auto-transactioning through Spring so my entire DB connections are regulated by Spring. Basically all I do in DAO's is 'getJpaTemplate().persist(myPojo)' etc. No messing around with DB connection pooling or opening & commiting transactions... all that is done in my application-context.xml
So now I need to change my GUI layer towards JSF.
I pretty much get the idea to link my beans to my JSF pages, to connect the different pages using navigation rules in combination with methods in my beans...
What I don't get however is how I'm supposed to wire my Spring dependency injection (which I like very much) into my JSF...
How to combine my application-context.xml with my faces-config.xml etc...
    So here's the question:
Any of you guys able to explain to me like I'm a 6-year old how to do this?
    OR
Do any of you know of any clear and precise Tutorials on the web somewhere?
    I browsed RoseIndia, these forums,...
    Thanks in advance!

The Spring framework offers the org.springframework.web.jsf.DelegatingVariableResolver to integrate Spring in JSF.
    http://www.google.com/search?q=org.springframework.web.jsf.DelegatingVariableResolver
    http://static.springframework.org/spring/docs/2.0.x/reference/webintegration.html#jsf
I would like to share my humble opinion about RoseIndia: it is basically a handy site with good potential, but most of those tutorials are written by users who have too few background knowledge about the real stuff and those generally shows "bad practices". Read the RoseIndia tutorials with a bag of salt and rather read the official documentations of the manfacturer of the API. E.g. http://javaserverfaces.dev.java.net, http://www.springframework.org, http://www.hibernate.org and so on.

  • Prevent an 'iframe' in a JSF page to refresh when a  button is clicked

I have a JSF Page. On this page I have a
1)Iframe that ponts to another JSF page that contains a JSF tree
    2)A button named 'ADD'
    3)A listbox
When I select a node in the tree it gets stored in the session and when I click the ADD button the selected value is populated into the listbox.
Building the tree is a very costly(time consuming) operation. So whenever I click the ADD button it's action event in the backing bean runs and populates the listbox with the selected value.
The problem whenever the I click the ADD button a postback happens and so the whole page is reloaded including the iframe and the tree with in the firame. How can I prevent the tree in the iframe refreshing each time I click the ADD button.
    Any workarounds/ help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I do't think Virtual forms solve this problem as clicking anything(firing action events) on the main page would force the page and all the componets to refresh and the as the ui:iframe points to another JSF page on which the tree is; that page is also being refreshed .
I also have added logic in the init method of the second page inwhich the tree is tocheck for postbacks. But I observed that :
A postback on the main page is not a post back to the second page
    Thanks for your reply.

  • Difference between struts , spring, JSF

    Hi,
i want to know what is the main differecnes between struts and spring? on which context and on what basis? and which one is preferable to develop the projects.
and also what is the main defference between spring and JSF?
if anybody knows please help me?
    thanks in advance
    ram

Difference between struts and springs could be analysed from various facets.
    (1) Purpose of each framework.
    (2) Various feature offerings at framework level.
    (3) The design & stuff.
Firstly, Struts is a sophisticated framework offering the easy 2 develop, structured view/presentation layer of the MVC applications. Advanced, robust and scalable view framework underpinning reuse and seperation of concerns to certain extent. Springs is a Lightweight Inversion of Control and Aspect Oriented Container Framework. Every work in the last sentence carry the true purpose of the Spring framework. It is just not a framework to integrate / plug in at the presentation layer. It is much more to that. It is adaptible and easy to run light weight applications, it provides a framework to integrate OR mapping, JDBC etc., Infact Struts can be used as the presentation tier in Spring.
Secondly, Springs features strictly associate with presentation stuff. It offers Tiles to bring in reuse at presentation level. It offers Modules allowing the application presentation to segregate into various modules giving more modularity there by allowing each module to have its own Custom/Default Request Processor. Spring provides Aspect Oriented programming, it also solves the seperation of concerns at a much bigger level. It allows the programmer to add the features (transactions, security, database connectivity components, logging components) etc., at the declaration level. Spring framework takes the responsibility of supplying the input parameters required for the method contracts at runtime reducing the coupling between various modules by a method called dependency injection / Inversion of Control.
Thirdly, Struts is developed with a Front Controller and dispatcher pattern. Where in all the requests go to the ActionServlet thereby routed to the module specific Request Processor which then loads the associated Form Beans, perform validations and then handovers the control to the appropriate Action class with the help of the action mapping specified in Struts-config.xml file. On the other hand, spring does not route the request in a specific way like this, rather it allows to you to design in your own way however in allowing to exploit the power of framework, it allows you to use the Aspect Oriented Programming and Inversion of Control in a great way with great deal of declarative programming with the XML. Commons framework can be integrated to leverage the validation in spring framework too. Morethan this, it provides all features like JDBC connectivity, OR Mapping etc., just to develop & run your applications on the top of this.

  • JSF controls not refreshing

I have a very strange problem. I have some JSF <h:inputText> controls on my form and the problem is that when I refresh bean (myForm.field1 = "new Value";) that those controls are attached to (#{pc_MyPage.myForm.field1}), those controls doesn't display new values when my page (re)opens. The strangest thing is that read only JSF <h:inputText> controls does get refreshed (new values), but editable (non read only) controls doesn't. If I set some control to be read only it works OK. Where the problem is?

I have tried to change from request scope to session scope, but I got IllegalStateException. Then I have found this post:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5136560&messageID=9571081
and I fixed IllegalStateException, but that didn't resolved my problem. JSF <h:inputText> controls still does get refreshed.
I'd like to add to my previous post that <hx:dataTableEx> do get refreshed when bean scope is request, but I don't know why this happen, because both, <h:inputText> and <hx:dataTableEx>, are connected to the same variable and inside <hx:dataTableEx> colmuns are <h:inputText>. :(
    1. Doesn't work
    <h:inputText value="#{pc_myPage.myForm.array1[0].field1}">
    2. Works
<hx:dataTableEx value="#{pc_myPage.myForm.array1}" var="var1"><hx:columnEx><h:inputText value="#{var1.field1}"...It seems that "var=" part forces pc_myPage.myForm.array1 to be read. Perhaps I could wrap my <h:inputText> controls into some similar JSF controls (like <hx:dataTableEx...) and it could work?
    I'm really really lost...

  • JSF(front WebGUI)+Spring(Business Logic)+Hibernate(Persistence service)??

To implement a well designed product with module decoupling, some friends suggest me to use the following architecture:
    JSF(front WebGUI)+Spring(Business Logic)+Hibernate(Persistence service)?
I was puzzled that whether Spring needed or not??What's especial feature does Spring own that JSF does not have? What's the benefit of integration of JSF and Spring?
Your reply will be appreciated greatly.
    Thanks a lot!

Using Spring provides some major benefits; among these are:
    - Spring provides an abstraction layer for easy integration of different persistence layers (e.g. Hibernate, which comes integrated out of the box) and for easy database access
    - It provides an easy-to-use AOP framework based on dynamic proxying and byte code enhancing via CGLIB
    - IMHO most important: Spring provides an Inversion of Control container (see http://martinfowler.com/articles/injection.html) which enables you to remove references to implementation classes from your code and thus facilitates component based architectures.
By the way, we developed a Spring/JSF integration solution (for source code, documentation and an example application see http://sourceforge.net/projects/jsf-spring). It wraps the JSF context into a Spring context and thus merges them. This way, the JSF context becomes part of Spring and vice versa. This is done in a implementation independent way so that it can be used with any JSF implementation.

  • Spring IOC issues in MVC WebApplication with JSF integration

    Hello All,
I am getting null pointer exception while using spring's IOC feature in my application.
I have created one Spring + JSF Application in Eclipse ID given instruction at link http://www.javabeat.net/articles/39-integrating-spring-and-jsf-3.html.
    This is working fine.
I tried to modify this code and instead of initializing the Map from the default constructor I have added below code in applicationContext.xml like
    <util:map id="stockSymbolsAndValuesMap" map-class="java.util.HashMap">
    <entry key="AAA" value="100"></entry>
    <entry key="BBB" value="200"></entry>
    <entry key="CCC" value="300"></entry>
    <entry key="DDD" value="400"></entry>
    <entry key="EEE" value="500"></entry>
    </util:map>
and add this id's ref something like below.
    <bean id="stockBean"
    class="net.javabeat.articles.springjsf.introduction.StockValueFetcher">
    <property name="stockBeanValue" ref="stockBean"></property>
    </bean>
and modified the bean some thing like
    public class StockValueFetcher {
    private Map<String, String> stockSymbolsAndValues;
// with some getters and setters
while taking this map to my public String findStockValue() method I am getting null when I do stockSymbolsAndValues.containsKey(symbolName);.
I did this map injection in plain java main spring program and its working fine. So, in this case am I doing anything wrong or missing anything. Please guide me on this.
    Thanks And Regards

    Hi Nithin,
We could solve this issue finally. The issue was HTTPS cookie persistence was not set at loadbalancer level. As we have two web servers behind load balancer, it seems once user authenticates with Azure AD, post back from Azure AD was happening to the server
other than the initial server which redirected the user to Azure AD intially.
Setting the HTTPS cookie persistence solved the issue.
However can you suggest if this is the only solution to fix this kind of issue. We don't want to enable this kind of sticky session on load balancer so if there is another way to fix it, it would be better.

  • How do I use toplink with Spring 2.5 and oc4j 10.1.2?

Our existing java server environment is limited to Oc4j 10.1.2 due to being tied to Oracle Forms.
We've added a java 6 jdk to the machine and linked it to a specific container to examine some newer java features since this version of the application server only comes with java 1.4.2.
Does anyone have some configuration steps for getting toplink essentials and spring to work with oc4j 10.1.2? Even with oc4j 10.1.3 in jdev 10.1.3.4 I'm having problems trying to figure out what needs placed in the persistence.xml file verses what needs placed in the spring-beans.xml file.
I'm trying to either use the J2SE option of keeping the connection information in the persistence.xml file (which doesn't work) - it tries to connect to //localhost:1521/orcl. If I try to define a datasource within Spring's xml file, I'm not sure how to tie that into the persistence.xml file. Could I use the oc4j 10.1.2 container provided datasource?
It seems like I'm at a loss as to how to get this working. If you'd like me to post some files, I can do that later on today when I get back to work.
The configuration that I'm trying to do is based on a modified workspace from an ibm developerworks article with websphere, mixing in the ideas from a JPA with Spring 2.0 article from Mike Keith and Rod Johnson. (That article goes pretty far in the configuration information but never provided an example to download...)
    Any help appreciated.
    Eric (hbg, pa)

I'm still at a loss with this. Rather than worry about the older version, for now, I just want to see JPA in action. So, I've decided on just running the Spring 2.5.6 petclinic example out of the samples folder. When I try to do this, after only tweaking the web.xml to use the applicationContext-jpa.xml file, the application does not initialize properly. Here's the stack trace I get:

  • Spring framework with JDeveloper

    Hi,
I'm developing to an application using JDeveloper. I need to use Spring framework, somebody has used it, integrating it with JDeveloper ?
    Thanks

    Hello,
How do you use ADF with Spring in a JSF application? I am trying and it seems like my ADF filter and JSf-Spring integration filter conflict with each other. Here the stanzas from my web.xml file. Ther ADF Internal listener fails with a null ptr or a java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException when I attempt to access my JSF page (no ADF tags are in this page but it does use Spring/JSF managed beans). If I remove the ADF filter and retry everything works???

  • Unusual behaviour of the jsf engine -- require explanation

    Scenario:
A list page with pagination enabled on the dataTable. Each entity has 3 links 'EDIT', 'DELETE' and 'START/STOP'. On clicking EDIT , the detail of that row is taken and a details page is displayed for editing. On click of DELETE, a confirmation is asked and proceeds to delete the entity from the DB and page reloads with the row deleted.
On click of the START/STOP link, i start or stop that particular entity (its a background process) and the page just reloads.
    Problem:
When user goes to the second or last page and clicks on START/STOP the prior page button in the pagination console gets disabled. This happens only in pages other than the first page.
    Info:
The button was mapped to a method and the result of that method was mapped in faces-config.xml where the destination page was given as the same page.
    Solution:
The mapping in faces-config.xml was removed for that method (as by default jsf will just refresh the page) and my problem is solved!.
    Question:
What happens when you give a mapping in faces-config.xml for a method output (and subsequent navigation) and what happens when you dont provide any mapping for that method in faces-config.xml.
    thanks,
    Dilip

    Question:
What happens when you give a mapping in
faces-config.xml for a method output (and subsequent
navigation) and what happens when you dont provide
any mapping for that method in faces-config.xml.I don't see how it impacts your scenario, but when you return null and do not use a navigation rule, the same view is re-used by the navigation handler (see section 7.4.1 in the specification). I interpret this to mean the same view which was restored during the Restore View phase.
If you could distill your original problem into a small example application that exhibits the problem, I'd be interested in taking a look.
