SPRO vs. Web DynPro vs. PCD

Hi guys,
Coming from a beginner's point of view, when I want to configure and customize ESS, I'm trying to understand
1. When to use SPRO or Web DynPro or PCD .
2. Under what circumstances should I use SPRO over Web DynPro,
3. What functionalities does SPRO has over Web DynPro

Hi There !
Use SPRO
to add, remove Services for the ESS.
to Change the Description of Texts Displayed.
to Have different Images Displayed.
to add Quick Links.
Use WebDynpro
to Change the Positions of Fields on ESS Screen.
to add Custom Logic to Applications.
use PCD
to Change the ESS Menu Structure
to Organise the Menu as per your needs.
to Create different Roles
Cheers !

Rajendra

  • How to store text field data from web dynpro application in pcd ?

    Hi Forum,
I am new to web Dynpro.
I want to store user specific data (a text field value) from a wd application in PCD and access it every time the user runs the application. How can I achieve this?
    Thanks,
    Mickey.

    Hi
I created the "read" and "update" methods in my application service. How can I call them? I created and implemented the methods just like here: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/340fc0ea-0c01-0010-74bf-965b11031e77
    Operations:
    - readMyEntityService:
    - updateMyEntityService
    Implementation:
    retValue = getMyEntityService().read(key);
    getMyEntityService().update(dS0);
In Web Dynpro there is this update method with the code above (in my original post).
How can I call the update-method????????
    Kind regards

  • Nwdi-managed access of pcd-objects from java web dynpro

    Hi,
im am trying to access portal pcd-objects from a java web dynpro component (namely getting and setting personalized iview properties). for locally managed web dynpro components this works fine with the code below.
when i try the same with a nwdi managed web dynpro component i run into problems regarding references to used dcs. for instance, i need to reference used dc SAP_JTECHS/tc/epbc/pcm/adminapi/java because the build needs tcepbcpcmadminapijava.jar which is inside the mentioned dc. but access permissions of this dc don't allow the dependency. when i try to "add used dc ..." in nwds i get the error message: illegal dependency: access list does not allow use of ...
has someone any solution for this problem? are there other ways of accessing pcd-objects from java web dynpro (nwdi managed!)?
    thanks

    Hi Kust,
To access the PCD objects the code you used looks ok for me but your main issues is related to the dc access permissions. This thread discussed about the similar issue. Please review this below thread.

  • Set (PCD) IViewID out of web dynpro

    Hi experts,
is it possible to set the portal (pcd) iviewID out of web dynpro, via some api?
i would like to provide my Iview with a unique identifier and the default IviewDI does not suit our needs.
    thanks for any help,
    Rene

    hi,
    see this document
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_ep50sp6/helpdata/en/6c/670e3c421ff443e10000000a11405a/frameset.htm
You can manually add the get_ API to the iView URL by defining it as a parameter in the Parameter Properties table. The get_ API reads the value of whatever you ask for. For example, get_IsolationLevel instructs the iViewServer to read the currently defined isolation level. At runtime, the iViewServer replaces this URL parameter value with the requested value.
The syntax of what follows get_ is very specific
GET_IVIEWID returns the unique iView ID defined in the portal content repository.
    Thanks and Regards

  • SRM 7.0 Web Dynpro ABAP Customization

    Hi ,
Upgrading from SRM 5.0 to SRM 7.0 and would require customization at the Web Dynpro ABAP Component for RFx.
I need to put a pop-up screen when the Buyer clicks on the "AWARD" button on the Bid Screen. Now I am not able to find the award action/event at the Web Dynpro component level where I have to put the pop-up code and other related logic. I also tried getting into the SPRO and find the class which may contain the AWARD event. Please let me know the solution to this problem. Thank you.
    Manoj

    Hi Akash,
Thanks for the reply. Can you please guide me through how to go about the enhancement, keeping the original functionality of the Award Button intact. And I understand coding in method of interface is not possible.

  • Srm 7.0 - Hide field in web dynpro using configurations

    Hello to all,
I'm trying to hide some fields on PO web dynpro. In this example on web dynpro /SAPSRM/WDC_DODC_PO_I_BD I start the component configuration /SAPSRM/WDCC_DODC_PO_I_BD, I search for the fields I want to hide and put the visibility attribute to Invisible and I mark final check box.
The fields don't dessapear from the web dynpro. Am I missing something?
    Best regards,
    Nacho

    Thanks for your reply.
    I have here two situations:
SPRO. If I add the field on Configure Field Control at Header Level/Item Level it disapears but not all fields appear on this transaction. For example, I can't do that to tolerance group (TOL_GP)
Webdynpro. Using Component Configuration of the dynpro. I guess that it is in two actions:
       - Change the value of visibility to Invisible on Web dynpro Built-In
       - Add field to context. I put for this example:
Attributes of the Element usagesDefinition (ITEM_TOL.TOL_GP)
                     usageName ITEM_TOL.TOL_GP
                     componentName ITEM_TOL.TOL_GP
                     ConfigurationName /SAPSRM/WDCC_DODC_PO_I_BD
The webdynpro way doesn't work, Am I missing something?
    Best regards,

  • Can the role info be passed from portal to ABAP web dynpro application

    Hi,
We have some roles in the portal. We call the ABAP web dynpro applications from the portal. Is it possible to pass on the role from the portal to the Web dynpro ABAP application so that we can use this role information in the application.
    Thanks,
    Pooja

    Hi,
you can try to add the expression
      role=<IView.PCDUnit>
as part of the Application Parameters in the iView. This will be the role in 99%. However not all iViews started in the Portal must belong to a role. You can start iViews using page navigation that are not part of a role. Therefore the PCD does not talk about roles but about "units" which is the superordinate term.
the value will be the PCD path of the role - e.g:
      portal_content/myFolder/roles/myRole

The problem is one parameter(VARIANT) is being passed to the t-code CAT3 correctly. The next mandatory parameter(PERNR) is not passed to the respective field. Here is the URL Code:

  • Passing a parameter to an iView window from a Web Dynpro

    Hello all,
I know very little about the portal, and haven't been using Web Dynpro for too horribly long, either, so I'm really not sure what part I'm having a problem with here, so I'm just going to explain the whole scenario the best I can.
I have a Web Dynpro DC with two applications in it - SearchDevices and ShowDetail.  The idea is that there will be an iView created on the portal for each of these apps, and the user can navigate to the SearchDevices app, but the ShowDetail one will only show up by clicking on a result from the SearchDevices app.
Because the user did not want to see the portal navigation when opening up the ShowDetail, we can't use the WDPortalNavigation.navigateAbsolute(), so it was suggested to me by a coworker that I do the following:
    String url = "http://localhost:50000/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fJennifer!2fjava_fe_com_reg~search_cust_device_wdp_com_fecorp_wdp_ed_showdata_ShowData?sap-config-mode=true&application_parameter=EqNo=" + wdContext.currentResultsElement().getEqunr();
    String title = "Device Details";
    IWDWindow window=wdComponentAPI.getWindowManager().createNonModalExternalWindow(url,title);
    window.open();
"http://localhost:50000/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fJennifer!2fjava_fe_com_reg~search_cust_device_wdp_com_fecorp_wdp_ed_showdata_ShowData?sap-config-mode=true" is the url I see when I preview my iView in the portal (it's hard-coded now, but that will be fixed in my final production application)
"EqNo" is the parameter that my ShowDetail app is looking for... but, when I try testing this, this part is obviously not working, as it's always null, even though I can see in the URL the value being passed.
(as a side note, for me to continue testing other things until this is resolved, I HAVE done a WDPortalNavigation.navigateAbsolute() and sent the parameter that way, and it works FINE)
Any suggestions would be appreciated, I <b>will</b> reward points for anything helpful.
    Thanks,
    Jennifer

    Hi ,
    For the first one ,
    Official Doc :
<i>This class allows the access to the origin request. If Web Dynpro is used within the SAP Portal Runtime, the Web Dynpro application developer may use Portal services. For that, the origin request object is often needed to use a lot of the existing Portal services. In the Portal case, the origin request would be a IPortalComponentRequest object.
    </i>
If, he has used portal services .. please do post the steps he had done..
    Second :
Might sound silly , but what you can do is .. put both of them in the same view.. lilke add interface view of the showdetail in first one itself..
hide when in search page.. .and when a user clicks on a search result.. enable that result.. and disable the other one..
this way.. u hav the same tab in TLN .. and ur passing parameters prob wud also get solved..

  • Storing user defaults of Web Dynpro application on portal

    Hi folks,
I am trying to develop Web Dynpro application that runs in an iView on a portal. I would like to remember certain user defaults for this application (e.g., user default plant). User also has control over this value, so whenever they change it, the value should be update on a backend as well.
My first thought was to use PCD, but I am not sure how to do that - all the code examples for I found for PCD looked like they were created for portal application, not Web Dynpro ones.
Anybody here actually done anything similar?
Edited by: Alexei Isaev on Jan 29, 2008 8:20 PM

    Hi Alexei,
If you need to store default values for a portal application, you may consider your development in Web Dynpro for ABAP.  I have not come across application level personalisation yet in Web Dynpro for Java, unless someone else can throw some light here.

  • NW 7.3 + iView from remote source wizard + R3 Web Dynpro ABAP, not working

    Hi,
I think this forum is my last resort.
I'm running NetWeaver 7.3 Enterprise Portal and also have an existing ECC6 on backend.
Our ABAP Programmer has built some WD4A application on ECC, I'd like to made them available
on EP as ABAP WebDynpro iView.
From the document, I know the way to create ABAP WD iView is different since 7.3. I have to use "iView from remote source" to do it.
On EP side, I have made an system alias (test ok) for ECC, assigned permission, provide mapping id/pwd, and test.
On ABAP side, all webdynpro app are activated (T-code sicf, /sap/bc/webdynpro, /sap/public/bc/webdynpro...). I can even test WAS by bringing up browser and access some sample ABAP webdynpro .
However, I cannot success on "iView from remote source" wizard and it always show me "Nothing found. Check your search Criteria.".   Eventhough I use "*" as search criteria.
Anyone has the similar situation ? I even doubt that it is a placeholder of a feature , not working for now. Anyone made it work on NW 7.3 ?
    More detail:
    My System Alias for ECC:
          Application Host: myr3.mydomain.com
          SAP Client: 600
          SAP System ID:   DEV
          SAP System Number: 00
          Server Port:  <leave it blank>
          System Type: SAP_R3
          Logon Method:  UIDPW
          User Mapping Type: admin,user
          ICM Host: myr3.mydomain.com:8000
          ICM Protocol: http
ICM URL prefix: <leave it blank>
SAP Netweaver AS Description: <leave it blank>
All other fileds are leave it as default value
I also assign a group to have "read" and "user" permission to this system
Also assign Alias to the system.
I also create a user belong to the group, assign his system mapping an ECC user ID & PWD to it.
I tested the System alias, it is working (both WEB AS  test, and R3 test)
Then I try to create an iView on EP, under a PCD folder , new->iview->iview from remote source. A wizard show up. Then I can select the ECC alias just created, and provide * as application search criteria, and then select "WEB DYNPRO ABAP" as the application type. Then "GO"
as I mentioned, it always show "Nothing Found. Check your search crieteria"
But I'm sure the web dynpro applications are activated on R3.
OK, that's it, please help this one. Thanks
IF YOU DID MAKE IT WORK ON YOUR NW 7.3, PLEASE DROP A LINE HERE SO I KNOW IT IS MY OWN PROBLEM !!!

    Thanks for the reply,
    [About Backend]
I feel confident about the backend R3 system because I can use the WAS URL to access the sample WD4A application, for example, I can bring up the wd4a application ui in my browser. It is purely browser and R3 stuff, no EP involved.
    http://soeprdev.mydomain.com:8000/sap/bc/webdynpro/bobf/demo_sales_order?sap-client=600&sap-language=ZF
I also already activate all nodes and sub-nodes (in SICF Services) under /sap/bc/webdynpro as well as /sap/public/bc/webdynpro. (and some other nodes to make icon and include work)
[About the system object in EP]
I have done all kind of test on the system object (alias):
    1. In EP System Administration -> Landscape Configuration, I select the system object, click "Test Connection", It shows me a Check mark, and the detail message is SOE_DEV_600 connection
    2. Edit the System object, then click on "Connection Tests" page, I see two lines there, check both and click test, here is the result:
    SAP Web AS Connection:
    : Test Details:
The test consists of the following steps:
    1. Check the validity of the system ID in the system object
    2. Check if the system can be retrieved
    3. Check if the system object has a valid system alias
    4. Check if an SAP system is defined in the system object
    5. Validate the following parameters: Web AS protocol; Web AS hostname
    6. Checks if the host name of the server can be resolved.
    7. Pings the Web AS Ping service (works only if the service is activated on the Web AS, and only on ABAP Web AS)
    8. Check HTTP/S connectivity to the defined back-end application
    Results
    1. The system ID is valid
    2. System retrieved successfully
    3. Retrieval of the default alias was successful
    4. The system object represents an SAP system
    5. The following parameters are valid: ICM Protocol (http) ICM Host Name (soeprdev.mydomain.com:8000)
    6. The host name (soeprdev.mydomain.com) was resolved successfully
    7. The Web AS ping service http://soeprdev.mydomain.com:8000/sap/bc/ping was pinged successfully
    8. An HTTP/S connection to http://soeprdev.mydomain.com:8000 was obtained successfully.
    Connection Test for Connectors:
    : Test Details:
The test consists of the following steps:
    1. Retrieve the default alias of the system
    2. Check the connection to the back-end application using the connector defined in this system object
    Results
    Default alias retrieved successfully
    Connection successful

  • Problem in Web dynpro Java appl deployment

    Hi Experts,
We are in the live environment and after successful QA testing, all the applications were deployed through SDM. In SDM log everything shows as deployed successfully.
For one where in the web dynpro screen shows exception message as:
failed to create or init instance of model <modelname> in scope application_scope with instanceId null.
All MSS and HR users are getting affected.
    EP7.0SP11 and ECC6.0
    Thanks,
    Sonali.

If you are sure that QA testing was correct and the application was working fine.. I would say in Prod env after deployment please restart /bounce the Java Server.. this will fix the problem
Also One thing I can think of is FPM configuration in Portal(PCD) .. make sure your config in Prod is same as QA . It could be the roadmap or the perspectives are different
