SQL developer 3.1 supports POStGRESQL?
Hi,
There was an oracle conference that I had attended today.
The speaker for SQL developer mentioned that POSTGRESQL and TERADATA would be supported in the new 3.1 version.
The 3.1 EA3 version does not mention POSTGRESQL. Any clue by when will the support be available?
Hi Cheers,
POStGRESQL comes up as a request a bit - SQLDeveloper does not support it. Who said it would?

Which sql developer version will support oracle 8.1.7
hi
which sql developer version will support oracle 8.1.7 or is it necessary to use plsql developer to connect to database (oracle 8.1.7)Hi,
SQL Developer version 1.2.1 is able to connect to 8.1.7 with limited functionality (prepared reports and browser for objects could not work)..
Next version (tested with 3.2 64-bit) of SQL developer could be "hacked" to connect to 8.1.7 by simply copy file C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\jdbc\lib\classes12.zip from Oracle client prior 11
into appropriate jdk\jre\lib\ext folder. -
SQL Developer does not support Oracle 8i
Hi,
I was waiting a tool from Oracle like SQL Developer for a long time, finally it came, but I am a little disapointed, so Why SQL Developer does not support Oracle 8i? Other free tools like SQUIRREL can do it. I also have worked in previous projects using PL/SQL Developer and it works fine...Why a native Oracle tool can not do it?
I am in a project where we have to upgrade the Oracle database to a newer version, but I cannot have access to the old one...
I know there are some threads in this forum, and some people can work with 8i with no issues. Can anyone who works with SQL Developer and Oracle 8i please tell me how to do it?
Thanks,
--Javier

Edited by: javierlarota on Dec 9, 2009 5:41 AMThat's what I thought, the issue is more commercial ($$$) than technical. Anyway...I downloaded the version 1.1 but now I am getting an ORA-02248: invalid option for ALTER SESSION error. 00604. 00000 "error occurred at recursive SQL level %s".
Thanks,

Does SQL developer plan to support TFS?
our developing team uses MS Team Foundation Server as our primary source control / version control software. Does SQL developer planning to give a plug-in to support this? The PL/SQL developer could let us us MSSCCI provider to connect to TFS, I would like to know if Oarcle's SQL developer support the same.
Thanks!Although unlikely, you can always request this at the SQL Developer Exchange, so other users can vote and add weight for possible future implementation.

Does SQL Developer 3.1 support "Deploy Objects to cloud" ?
Hi, in the document Using Oracle Database Cloud Service, Release 2012.5.31 E27038-01, The following statement is on page 4-3:
To upload data ... (use) SQL Developer cart. Click Deploy Objects to Cloud"
I do not see this option available.
Is this a future enhancement ?
Thanks
Joe.It will be there when the Oracle Cloud is released.

Foreign key Mapping based on Data - in SQL Developer Data modeler
Team
Do SQL Developer Data modeler supports Foreign Key mapping based on the Data in the Schema rather defined at the DDL ? For e.g if we implement a Objects Relation ship mapping in Data base, we don't define Foreign keys at table creation.
Toad does this feature through "AUTOMATIC FOREIGN KEYS MAPPING IN TOAD DATA MODELER" more info at (http://toadworld.com/Blogs/tabid/67/EntryId/905/Automatic-Foreign-Keys-Mapping-in-Toad-Data-Modeler.aspx)
any one know how to implement through some scripts also helps me
Regards
RajIf you have table PKs defined and the candidate columns match those PK columns, then you can use the Discover Foreign Keys utility. Right mouse over the relational model name (node) in the left browser. It is about half way down the menu. I did a blog post about it last week on kentgraziano.com.

SQL Developer High Memory Consumption 3.2.20.09.87
Hello,
I have been using SQL developer for quite some time and had initially had problems in the past with high memory consuption when I use this tool.
I have received and applied advice from this forum and while it had helped a little, the majority of the high memory consuption remained an issue.
I finally got more time to dig around and try to specifically isolate where the problem seems to be coming from and here is what I found.
*1)* I have removed the Check for Updates feature
*2)* I have turned off many of the extensions except for DBA Navigator, Real Time SQL Monitoring, SearchBar and Snippet.
*3)* When I start a fresh SQL Developer Session and initiate a Oracle Connection the application consumes roughly 148 meg fo RAM
*4)* When I open my Windows Task Manager and watch the memory allocated to SQL Developer I notice it goes up when I move my mouse over the SQL Developer tool and When I run through menus at roughly 5k a second or so and the memory is never released back to the system.
*5)* When I run a Large SQL to the grid the memory jumps by about 100 meg or so and will continue to do so every time I repeat the SQL until SQL Developer consumes roughly 748 meg of RAM.
*6)* 748 Meg of RAM seems to be the number when SQL Developer (with one Oracle connection) no longer continues to consume more and then not return the memory to the system.
Is there a way to have SQL Developer automatically clear up it's active memory usage without closing it down and restarting it?
Why does SQL Developer continue to consume more and more memory just from moving your mouse over it and/or by navigating menus?

Edited by: ERPDude on Feb 28, 2013 2:46 PMAces!!! You nailed it Gary...
Thank you.
I applied fixed noted in Re: Reduce SQLDeveloper memory footprint with JDK 1.7
For others, to summarize my changes.
product\11.2.0\client_3\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.conf
AddVMOption -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions
AddVMOption -XX:+UseG1GC
AddVMOption -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50
AddVMOption -XX:GCPauseIntervalMillis=200
AddVMOption -XX:MaxPermSize=128M
AddVMOption -Xms50M
AddVMOption -Xmx384M
AddVMOption -XX:MinHeapFreeRatio=10
AddVMOption -XX:MaxHeapFreeRatio=10
product\11.2.0\client_3\sqldeveloper\ide\bin\ide.conf
comment the following two lines as shown below
#AddVMOption -Xmx640M
#AddVMOption -Xms128M
Now SQL Developer runs at roughly 500 meg.
I guess the only thing I have left to ask others reviewing this would be if there is a way to get these memory values down without having much adverse impacts on SQL Developer based on newer JVM switches/functionalities.
The posts that drove these changes are old from a technologoical perspective :) 2010.

Domains usage in SQL Developer data MODELER
Hi,
I'm trying to understand how to use Domains in Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler. We use version 3.1.3 . before I used Toad Modeler where domains are just part of your main design.
Oracle data modeler has some different concept.
let's assume I'm working on 2 designs: DesignA and DesignB that include relational models.
DesignA and Design B should use domains but list of domains in design A is very different than in design B.
Default domain file is located on c: drive where SqlModeler is installed. It is obviously unacceptable , so I need to change Default System Type directory in preferences.
And of course I want to have different domain directories for DESIGN A and DESIGN B.
So when I open design A then I changed Default System Type directory let's say to x:\AAA. Then i close design A and open Design B and change Default System Type directory to x:\BBB
I checked folders AAA and BBB and they have necessary XML files there: defaultdomains.xml, defaultRFDBSSites and so on....
Now questions:
can I rename defaultdomains.xls to something else like AAAdomains.xls? Domain administration can edit any domain file with any name , but how can I associate certain domain file with my design? My wish , when I open my design , then corresponding domain file will be open automatically. Is it possible?
If I open 2 designs in Sql Modeler and switch between designs then corresponding domain files should be changed automatically as well. Currently I shouldn't forget to change default System Type directory every time when I switch models. Is it the only way to handle it?
Thanks
vitaliyHi Vitaliy,
We use version 3.1.3
I recommend always to use the latest version. If you don't want to use beta (DM 4.0 EA is out) you can use DM 3.3.
Otherwise Oracle SQL Developer Data Modeler supports two types of domains:
1) DM installation domains - those in file defaultdomains.xml
2) Design level domains - they are stored in design directories and are visible to particular design only. They can be created in following ways:
2.1 Manually - there is a property "Domains file" and you id it's not set "defaultdomains" domain will become design level domain and will be stored in file with provided name (without .xml extension)
You can change later the file for design level domains, however you cannot change file for domain already in defaultdomains.xml.
2.2 Using types to domains wizard you can generate design level domains
2.3 Design level domains are created during import of DDL files (controlled in preferences)
2.4 You can import domains from specific file with domains using "File>Import>Domains" - you need to rename the source file if it's named defaultdomains.xml otherwise you'll get domains as installation domains
If the list with domains is too long you can define a list with preferred domains (or/and logical types) in "Preferences>Data Modeler>Model" and you can use shorter list in Table/Entity dialog if check "Preferred" check box next to "Type:" combo box.
If I open 2 designs in Sql Modeler and switch between designs then corresponding domain files should be changed automatically as well
If you open 2 designs in one instance of DM they will use the same file with default domains i.e. you'll lose domains in one of design depending of setting for "system data type directory". You need to go with design level domains.

Administration of APEX in SQL Developer with Proxy Authentication impossibl
Hello!
We are using latest version of SQL Developer to administer APEX. We are connecting to the database with proxy authentication. The syntax is:
personal_user[apex_ws_owner]
e.g.: mdecker[apex_demo]
When trying to deploy APEX application I go to "Database Object" -> Application Express -> Application1 [100] -> right mouse click: "Deploy Application". Then I select the appropriate database identifier and next, I am presented with a screen showing import options. In second line, it says: "Parsing Schema: MDECKER".
This is wrong: it has to be Parsing Schema: APEX_DEMO. It seems that managing APEX with SQL Developer does not support Proxy Authentication.
Could you please confirm?
Is there a way to formally ask for this enhancement?
Best regards,
Martin
Update:
I found out that if I check the flag "Proxy Authentication" in the connect details and provide both passwords, the deploy application parsing schema is set to the correct APEX_DEMO account. However, we are using Proxy Authentication in order to avoid having to know the application password.
Edited by: mdecker on Jan 28, 2013 4:48 PMThere is a write-up about connecting to APEX here: <a href ="http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/sql_dev_integration.html" >SQL Dev Oracle APEX Integration</a>
<p>You do need to have updated to Oracle APEX 3.0.1.

Sql developer 3.0.02 create unit_test_repos cannot log in
I create a user like the way of "Performing a Unit Test of Your PL/SQL in Oracle SQL Developer 2.1" (http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/obe/db/11g/r2/prod/appdev/sqldev/sqldev_unit_test/sqldev_unit_test_otn.htm), but cannot log in, when test it says"Ora-01017 invalid username/password;log defined".
but I use the same way in Sql developer 2.1, the connection was created successfully.
I create the user use 3.0.02 again, and connect use 2.1 it still this error:"Ora-01017 invalid username/password;log defined";
I create the user use 2.1 again, and connect use 2.1 or 3.0.02, it's OK.
Edited by: user10064474 on 2010-11-29 下午10:33Hello Jiri!
this is because of SQL Developer does not support "order by" over external tables.
In general it is not disabled in SQL developer to use it for external tables but due to unknown reason execution of select including "order by" clause over external table generates ORA-00600 error.
SQL Developer is saving all used "order by", "filter" settings (and many others) to special cache (user specific XML file) and this setting is used next time you open specific object - table.
It means when you apply "sorting" on external table
- oracle generates ORA-00600
- used "order by" is stored by SQL Developer into cahce XML file
- ...and you cannot open this table from your SQL developer anymore
How to correct it:
- go to SQL developer cache folder (something like C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\SQL Developer)
- try to find file "*GridSettings.xml" which contains this bad cache information
there are usually tons of GridSettings.xml files
-1134293461GridSettings.xml
-1134293492GridSettings.xml
-1134293523GridSettings.xml
you have to find file which contains your specific extenal table name like...
<uniqueName>SELECT * FROM "SCHEMANAME"."EXTERNAL_TABLE"</uniqueName>
- find "sortClauses" tag
<sortClauses>
<Item class="java.lang.String">3 asc</Item>
<Item/>
</sortClauses>
- you can now edit/correct content of this file/tag or just delete it completely
- or you can easily delete complete cache folder - BUT in this case all specific user setting can be deleted!!!
- then your table is accessible again :-)

Does SQL Developer Data Modeler fit-in??
Hi Everyone,
Wish you happy new year 2011.
Does SQL Developer Data Modeler support conceptual, logical and physical in our modeling or only logical and physical?
We all use Erwin for modeling. Erwin works without database repository storing models in desktop folders and provide additional reporting. I find some place SQL Developer Data Modeler talked about repository need.
Does SQL Developer Data Modeler store the models in local/network folders instead of Database server?
What are the functions need database based repository to work with SQL Developer Data Modeler?
We are thinking of using SQL Developer Data Modeler for our conceptual, Logical, and data dictionary need. Will it help in our need?
Do we need to face any surprises on using SQL Developer Data Modeler for our need?
Thanks in sharing your experience and helping me out.
RI1) Do we need to have Oracle database at back end to work with SQL Developer Data Modeler?No, Data Modeler use Oracle database only if you create reporting repository.
Data Modeler is free, you need database license only if you want to log service request
2) Will SQL Developer Data Modeler create any tables (as backend repository ) in Oracle database to store Model details? no
3) Do we need to create reporting schema in backend oracle database to generate reports of SQL Developer Data Modeler's items such as Entity/attributes etc?no, reports can be created out of current loaded design. However having reporting repository will give you additional benefits - history (reports can be generated for every snapshot of your designs there) and multi-user usage, you can create your own reports
4) Do we to use SQL Developer Data Modeler reverse engineer from DB2, SqlServer, Terra data etc?Data Modeler has full support for Oracle, DB2/390, DB2/UDB(LUW) and MS SQL Server. Reverse engineering from other databases (including Terra Data) is at generic JDBC level - you'll get some and some will be missing (no check constraints for example).

Database copy of a SDO_GEOMETRY column fails in SQL Developer 3.2.20.09
I'm trying to copy a table that has a SDO_GEOMETRY column and it just fails:
Moving Data for object LOCATION
Unable to perform batch insert.
LOCATION ORA-00932: inconsistent datatypes: expected MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY got CHAR
What's the workaround for this or SQL Developer doesn't support this?
Edited by: user10768987 on Apr 11, 2013 11:05 AMWelcome to the forum!
Whenever you post provide your full version number for Sql Developer and, if a database is involved the name and full version of the DB.

Since you haven't posted your version and provided the exact steps you are using we have no idea what you are doing to try to copy a table. -
New SQL Developer 1.5 extension is available
Hello,
I would like to introduce the new release 2.0.1 of:
Schema Version Control for Oracle (SVCO)
It's the integrated version control solution for Oracle database server schema objects! It will track all schema objects changes direct within Oracle database fully automatically! No extra version control tool is required. You can go on and use your favourite IDE for Oracle or even mix different tools. You can also integrate Schema Version Control for Oracle in your own development process. SVCO consists of version control repository and packages. Both are created during installation under SVCO user inside your Oracle database. Please, also have a look at front-end interface for SVCO Plug-In for PL/SQL Developer and SVCO Extension for Oracle SQL Developer. SVCO supports Oracle 11g. Because it's written completely on Oracle PL/SQL it works on any platform supported by Oracle. Schema Version Control for Oracle is the right version control solution for Oracle database server development projects.
Extension for Oracle SQL Developer: the complete SVCO functionality and much more inside Oracle SQL Developer!
Please visit us at:
<SUMsoft Solutions>
web: http://www.sumsoftsolutions.com/Those versions are ancient, older than SS2008 even.
Go get version 4.0.3 and a jTDS 3.1 driver.

SQL Developer 3 and simple_integer
Hi can anyone help me with something, I have checked everywhere else and can't find an answer.
Does SQL Developer v 3 support the new 11g data type simple_integer? I have a simple procedure shown below
set serveroutput on;
DECLARE
n simple_integer := 1;
BEGIN
FOR j IN 1..4 LOOP
n := n + 1;
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(TO_CHAR(n, 'S9999999999'));
END LOOP;
FOR j IN 1..4 LOOP
n := n - 1;
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(TO_CHAR(n, 'S9999999999'));
END LOOP;
END;
When I try and run this I get the error
Error report:
ORA-06550: line 2, column 5:
PLS-00201: identifier 'SIMPLE_INTEGER' must be declared
ORA-06550: line 2, column 5:
PL/SQL: Item ignored
When I change simple_integer to integer or pls_integer it works. but the new type of simple_integer doesn't. Can anyone shed light on this because I'm at a loss as to the problem.

The error is definitly not dependent on your version of SQL-Developer 3.0, but on yout database version.
Test script:
SET serveroutput ON;
SELECT version from v$instance;
DECLARE
n simple_integer := 1;
BEGIN
FOR j IN 1..4
LOOP
n := n + 1;
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(TO_CHAR(n, 'S9999999999'));
END LOOP;
FOR j IN 1..4
LOOP
n := n - 1;
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(TO_CHAR(n, 'S9999999999'));
END LOOP;
END;

How To version a Schema in SQL Developer?
How To version a Schema in SQL Developer? Is there any open source tool for windows? I used a trial version of Source Control for Oracle by Red Gate. But i am looking for a free tool or way around? Like we do versioning in Jdeveloper?Any help in this regard would be much appreciated.
SQL Developer supports e.g. Subversion out of the box.
Open Sql Developer Help and search for "Versioning"
Using Versioning
SQL Developer provides integrated support for the Subversion and Git versioning and source control systems, and you can add support for other such systems as extensions by clicking Help, then Check for Updates. Available extensions include CVS (Concurrent Versions System) and Perforce.
This is the part about support for versioning. The next step would be how you organize your workflow so every source is available in your repository.
Maybe an online tutorial can help you: Using Source Code Control in Oracle SQL Developer 3.0
