SQL Developer debugger/ How to run/step till a variable attains a req. val

I have a huge while loop. I want the debugger to step/run till a variable attains a particular value inside the loop. i.e "Break when varA='valA'". How can achieve it?
Please don't suggest me to step through while "watching" the particular variable.
Thanks,
Natesh

I use a variable called bStop and then say
If x = whatever then
bStop =1;
end if
and I put a breakpoint on the bStop=1 line.
I tried putting only
null;
inside the if, but it never stopped.

  • SQL Developer Debugger

    Hello, question please. Last week i was able to use my SQL Developer Debugger quite successfully. Break Point and Step through my code, see values of variables, etc.
    Not sure what could have changed, today, i'm trying to debug and i get:
    ORA-30683: failure establishing connection to debugger
    ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP", line 68
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    Process exited.
    Some things i have attempted to correct the situation, but no luck.
    Have granted Debug any procedure and Debug connection to my user id - successful;
    Have verified that the IP displayed in the CALL DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP.CONNECT_TCP call is the same as displayed from IPCONFIG/ALL;
    Have verified that my team mate connecting to the same database can go into debug successfully on the same procedure i''m trying to debug;
    Anyone knows what i can try next?
    Thanks..Rob.

  • How to run execute immdiate with variables

    Hi friends,
    How to run execute immdiate with variables in v_stmt below?
    I dont know how to declare the value of i here.
    Set serveroutput on;
    DECLARE
       i        VARCHAR (20);
       v_stmt   VARCHAR2 (100);
       CURSOR c
       IS
          SELECT sqlid FROM temp1;
    BEGIN
       OPEN c;
       LOOP
          FETCH c INTO i;
          EXIT WHEN c%NOTFOUND;
          DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line (i);
          v_stmt := 'select * from table(dbms_xplan.display_cursor('&i',null))'
          execute immediate v_stmt;
       END LOOP;
       CLOSE c;
    END;
    /Regds,
    Kunwar.

    You first need to use a bind variable (named ':v' in SQL statement in my example):
    set serveroutput on;
    DECLARE
       i        VARCHAR (20);
       v_stmt   VARCHAR2 (100);
       CURSOR c
       IS
           -- modified for a quick test
          SELECT sql_id FROM v$sql where child_number > 2;
    BEGIN
       OPEN c;
       LOOP
          FETCH c INTO i;
          EXIT WHEN c%NOTFOUND;
          DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line (i);
          v_stmt := 'select * from table(dbms_xplan.display_cursor(:v,null))';
          execute immediate v_stmt using i;
       END LOOP;
       CLOSE c;
    END;
    /However because your SELECT statement returns several rows you need to adapt your code to process all rows returned (as already suggested in first reply to your message).
    Instead of using PL/SQL, I recommend to generate a SQL file using only SQL and then to run the generated SQL file.
    For example:
    spool edx.sql
    set serveroutput on
    declare
    v_stmt varchar2(100);
    v_q char(1):='''';
    begin
    dbms_output.put_line('spool edx.log');
    for s in (select sql_id from v$sql where child_number >2)
    loop
      dbms_output.put_line('select * from table(dbms_xplan.display_cursor(' || v_q || s.sql_id || v_q || ',null));');
    end loop;
    dbms_output.put_line('exit');
    end;
    spool ofThis generates a SQL file similar to :
    spool edx.log
    select * from table(dbms_xplan.display_cursor('5rygsj4dbw6jt',null));
    select * from table(dbms_xplan.display_cursor('5rygsj4dbw6jt',null));

  • Querying uncommitted session data in SQL Developer debugger

    I'm trying to analyze a large PL/SQL program that performs table creation, data insertion, and conditional updates to temporary tables. Is there a way to query the uncommitted data in the session in which the PL/SQL is running while stopped at a breakpoint? I see that watches make variables available for inspection, but I'd like to query data in the temp tables using a select statement to see what is there while the debugger is stopped at a breakpoint.
    This is using SQL Developer 1.2 on MS Windows XP against an Oracle 10g database.

    Well, no. You'd have to change your code to include these calls and fill variables you can monitor with the debugger. A lot of work in development, impossible for production...
    This would make a great request for the SQL Developer Exchange though: like the VB/Access Immediate window, a worksheet linked to the debugger session. You'll have my vote if you add it.

  • SQL developer will not start/run

    I have the latest version of sql developer. Java is also installed. When I click sqldeveloper.exe, nothing happens :( Please advise!

    Hi Fury,
    I have the latest JDK installed(I also tried 1.5). I dont believe its a Java issue. All versions of Java I've tried install and work fine w/ other progs/apps. The issue is simply w/ SQLDeveloper. Even w/o Java installed, I click the .exe and NOTHING happens. I just get a quick CMD box blip on my screen...nothing logs in task mgr or no error msgs. Just really weird why NOTHING occurs at all.
    Please advise! Also, what did you mean by "try running <SQL Dev Dir>\sqldeveloper\bin\sqldeveloper.exe". I didnt see any bin files given w/in the zip that I downloaded. I'll check again.
    Thanks!

    SQL*Developer communications are established by creating connections to the desired database.
    Start SQL*Developer. right click on the connecitons icon, and choose Create Connection. Fill in the information to the database server including username and password and test the connection.
    As it is created and where a remote key and for what it is necessary.After you can connect to the database you can use the object browser to find the objects available to the schema you logged in as. You can create database objects if the schema has those priveleges.
    And how references are created on objects or between them?What do you mean by "references"?

  • Sql developer debugger issue

    I am using oracle sqldeveloper 1.0.0.15.57. Previously we were able to set up a breakpoint and step through a stored procedure inside a package.
    We made sure all the previliges are on and the debugging did really work.
    But after some time (no changes to the Database or to the setup configuration on my laptop), we are not able to step through the stored procedure in a package.
    This is the logs we get:
    Connecting to the database UAT_Staging.
    Executing PL/SQL: ALTER SESSION SET PLSQL_DEBUG=TRUE
    Executing PL/SQL: ALTER SESSION SET PLSQL_COMPILER_FLAGS=INTERPRETED
    Executing PL/SQL: CALL DBMS_DEBUG_JDWP.CONNECT_TCP( '10.3.18.51', '1346' )
    Debugger accepted connection from database on port 1346.
    Processing 56 classes that have already been prepared...
    Finished processing prepared classes.
    Process exited.
    Disconnecting from the database UAT_Staging.
    Debugger disconnected from database.
    We do get all the log statements indicating that the SP is running, but the control doesn't stop at the breakpoint, preventing us from debugging.
    Can someone help, as to why this is happening?
    Thanks
    karthik

    I guess you've bumped onto the HUGE breakpoint-line-bug.
    I guess it's since developer cuts the first line in two:
    CREATE OR REPLACE
    PACKAGE BODY XXX AS
    the line numbers internally are 1 off.
    If you want to break at line 101, place the breakpiont at 100...
    DEV TEAM, how long before you can fix this one? It's an ugly, error prone, dev time consuming bug!

    Hi,
    The error message may be thrown out when you attempt to create a database on another shared cluster drive when the SQL Server resource is not dependent on that disk.
    Check if you are in the scenario which mentioned in the following article:
    How to create databases or change disk file locations on a shared cluster drive on which SQL Server was not originally installed

  • Can i run all the SQL And PL/SQL in Oracle SQL Developer?

    hi all
    I have heard that Oracle Sql Developer is a free editor for Oracle DB from Oracle.
    Is it possible to run all the the procedres and functions in that editor
    is there any limitation for that ,can i run all the things that we can run on the SQL Plus
    if anybody knows please let me know
    thanks & regards

    Interesting way of putting it.
    When it comes to SQL and PL/SQL, SQLPlus and SQL Developer do not really 'run' very much.
    Most of the time, these things are just shells that pass the SQL and PL/SQL requests to the appropriate engine (database) which will run the command.
    The challenges are:
    - will the shell interpret the request as something to pass to an engine?
    - will the shell display the response from the engine appropriately?
    For answers to those questions, TongucY provided approriate links.

  • How to export/import database from tools menu in sql developer.

    Hi,
    I need to export database from a server and import it on another db server using the export database function under tools menu in SQL developer. How do I import it? This is for Oracle 10g database.
    Thanks

    Depends what are you trying to do? Are you making a database copy or just creating an empty schemea or creating schema with the data?
    With 10g, you have also options of using datapump (expdp/impdp) and conventional export/import which is very usefule and easy to use when it comes to create a clone (duplicate schema) or an export/import of some objects.
    If you right click on table object, you have options of export ddl/export data and import data but thats different thant what expdp/impdp or conventional export/import provides. For very small database you can use sqldeveloper but consider
    using other above mentioned options. Hope this helps

  • How to exclude schema name from exported files (PL SQL Developer)

    Dear all,
    Just one question: I am using PL SQL Developer. My goal is to export some data (as .sql and .dmp files) from one database and to import them into the another database (both databases have identical structure - test database and production, just different database names and names of schema. In order to make it possible, I need to exclude schema name from generated export file. I believe that it is possible to do it automatically by setting up parameters of PL SQL Developer. How?
    Thank you in advance,
    Kindest regards,
    Dragana

    In the meantime, I have found the answer on my previous question:
    Actually, the initial idea (how to exclude schema name from exported files) was wrong. No need for any intervention.
    Trick is: Schema name can be changed during the import of exported files (PL SQL Developer during import gives possibility: From User (old schema) To User (new schema) .
    Hope that this will be useful info for others.

    Further to the above post, I thought I'd simplify my Apex Listener install just to see if I can connect to it via SQL Developer
    So downloaded the latest version 2.0.8 and decided to configure and run the Listener on my pc whilst still connecting to the same database.
    Operating system : Window 7 Pro 64 bit
    Oracle Apex Listener 2.0.8
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_25-b17)
    Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.25-b01, mixed mode)
    Went through the configuration as above, once started I tried again to access the listener via SQL Developer. This time I received this output from the listener:

    I am assuming this must be part of the problem I am seeing this the Weblogic deployment in my original post.
    Does anyone have any suggestions on how best to tackle this?

  • Tnsnames.ora file does not seem to load in SQL Developer

    I've really tried my best to figure this out on my own ... through the Help, this forum, and Internet in general. I apoligize in advance for having to ask this, since I'm sure this is a common issue. This particular form entry was really close:
    Database Connections will not load tnsnames.ora
    But, I just can seem to figure out why, or where entries from my tnsnames.ora file are loading into SQL Developer.
    - I have the TNS_ADMIN system environment variable defined to the directory where tnsnames.ora is stored - C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\NETWORK\ADMIN.
    - I do not see a TNS tab as the forum entry above indicates anywhere in SQL Developer - This may be my problem.
    It seems that this issue could be cleared up with better directions on how to import tnsnames.ora entries into SQL Developer. Is there any specific direction on how to get your tnsnames.ora file setup correctly with SQL Developer running on Windows XP - Besides the Help which mentions the setup of TNS_ADMIN, but doesn't really tell you what the expected result is, or where the entries will be, or how to verify this is working?
    Any help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Using Windows XP/Vista...
    After testing in our environment, it appears that SQL Developer 1.5.1 (5440) does in fact ignore the TNS_ADMIN environment variable and ONLY looks in the Oracle Home directory (network/admin). We define a central network location for our tnsnames file and have the tns_admin setup to point there instead of locally for our users.
    When selecting to add a new connection (in 1.5.1, it works in previously releases... meaning 1.2.something) and selecting TNS, the drop-down remains empty. However, if I exit SQL Developer and then copy the tnsnames file to the local network/admin directory I can then re-launch SQL Developer and the drop-down is populated. Exiting SQL Developer again, deleting the local copy of tnsnames, and then launching SQL Developer yet again results in the drop-down being empty.
    All other Oracle-related applications function as expected (as they have for years) using the TNS_ADMIN environment variable.
    Any suggestions/ideas?
