SQL*Developer 'Query Results' Not Displaying

I have just recently installed SQL*Developer v3.2.2 and after I run a SQL query the tab 'Query Result' tab is not displayed. I have tried to show this tab and to use the arrow keys at the bottom of the screen to display this screen but I cannot view the query results. I have used v1.5.1 in the past and know that it should display when after running a query and can be resized if required but I cannot seem to show it is v3.2.2

Hi,
Yes, I did install to a clean directory. I have even deleted all contents of the directory and re downloaded
the software again to the same directory but this did not work either it still remembered the original settings.Keep in mind there are two locations that an installation updates:
1. The SQL Developer installation directory (which you deleted).
2. The User-Related Information (in your "user home" directory), which is updated by the settings migration
Perhaps Jim meant you should also remove the user settings for the last SQL Developer version installed and possibly even avoid migrating the old 1.5.x settings when you first start SQL Developer after that. See the following forum thread, probably unrelated to your situation, but containing where to find the location of user-related information in the Help:
Re: IDE issue - Query Result grid is not selectable or scrollable

  • Sql developer query window corrupting on scroll

    Hi there
I have a weird error - when I scroll in my SQL developer query window (tab) the text corrupts and only comes back if I click in the window somewhere or save. Has anyone else seen this? I'm on version 1.5.5 and don't really want to upgrade to the latest as I don't like the new layout (no dbmsoutput etc in the results window)
    Cheers, Kate

sorted it by adding a line AddVMOption -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true to the sqldeveloper.conf file, as per thread SQL Editor not refreshing after scroll on Windows Vista

  • SQL expression field is not displayed on the page header if no records

    Hello
I'm creating a quite simple report. In this report I've got a SQL expression field which returns a DateTime
I display this field on the page header section.
Everything is working fine except when my principal query doesn't return any records my SQL expression field is not displayed. It doesn't seem to be evaluated.
So, I would display this field even if my Details Section doesn't contains any record.
I hope you understand what I mean.
    Can someone help me?
    thanks

    Hello,
I thought about creating a formula but the value I need is stored in a database.
So i created a simple SQL expression field.
    SELECT CONVERT(DATE,j_1) FROM VW_STD_DATEFIXING
And this expression doesn't have any dependencies.

  • Save layout of queries in SQL Developer query builder?

Sometimes queries are very complex and moving tables around in the graphical view is really helpfull to better understand them.
Unfortunately this layout does not get saved with "save" (because this is a simple text file).
Once upon there was a query builder (included with designer 2000 and later vom 1991 to 1998) that had a proprietary format (.brw) to just do that: Save a query including layout.
Any chance to save the layout of SQL Developer query builder queries?

I dont think there is any way to save the layout for the query, you can request an enhancement on the Exchange for this http://sqldeveloper.oracle.com/
But if you only need to restore the query you are working with later, or move it to another workstation and continue editing using the query builder, you only need the SQL code generated; when you paste it in an opened worksheet (on the same database or even a clone with the same structure) the query builder is able to resume working just fine with default positioning for the table objects.
If you hand edit the query and insert some SQL manually then the query builder may stop working for particularly complex statements, in this case it will warn you and disable itself.

  • Query Results not coming for SELECT * in sql developer 3.1.07

VERY FRUSTRATING to use sql developer.
    In SQL DEVELOPER 3.1.07:
WHAT WORKS: select sequence# from v$archived_log
    WHAT DOESN'T WORK : select * from v$archived_log
You've got to be kidding me.
I wish I can show a screenshot, but can't in this forum. Here's my description:
When I run the query, in the bottom frame for Query Results, it just says: Executing: select * from v$archived_log in 0 seconds.
    Then there's no result grid.

Is this a 'manual' standby db? Are you using Data Guard?
Post the results for what Gary ask of running the queries in sql*plus. If those queries give the same result then this is NOT a sql developer issue.
Review the following thread and post back with what information in it applies to your use case.

If you are using Data Guard you may want to cross-post in that forum.

  • Results not displayed when driling across

    Dear all,
We have just upgraded succesfully to BW 7.31 (SP12).
We now have observed a strange behavior in BEX queries.
We have reports for which we suppress results in BEX. This is a general setting.
Now, users have observed, that when they take 0CALMONTH into the report and drill this across and they set 0CALMONTH to "display ALL results, these results are not being displayed.
But when drilling 0calmonth DOWN, the results are being displayed.
Furthermore, when I select the option "show results with more than one value", then I get results displayed.
I have checked and reproduced this behavior in our new 7.31 environment and compared it towards the old environment(luckily we have had a sandbox for emergencies, which is still on the elder release (7.2x)), and there it works fine. Result rows are being displayed in drill across as well as in drilldown.
Our reports are being shown in the BI Portal.
So tried running the query directly in BEX. I still get that behavior with results not being displayed.
I then tried to run the report in RSRT and - surprise, surprise - here it behaves correctly.
Has anyone an idea, how we can "restore" the "normal" behavior?
    Regards
    Greg

    Hi Greg,
Can you clarify , have you seen this issue before upgrade ? or only after upgrade and in which system you are trying this report that means either production, quality or development. If you are facing the issue only after upgrade then you have raise OSS note to SAP team, they will give you the permanent fix. later you will move the changes to via transport from one system to other system.
If you have any queries, please get back to me.
    Thanks,

  • Search results not displayed properly

    Hi,
I've found a bug in my application. I have programmed a search field which is used to filter the results returned by the report query. When the page loads it displays all the items in the database. If i want to filter the results i type in the search field, click go and the results are filtered accordingly. It works perfectly. BUT it fails if the following scenario occurs:
    - i clear the search field and click go so I have all the records in the database contained in the report again (only displaying 1-15 of 300+)
    - i then click on the Next button to display records 15-30 (only 15 records are displayed per page).
    - if i perform a search on this second page, the results are not displayed. The report says 'Displaying 1-2 of 2 results' for example, along with table column headings, but nothing in the report.
In other words my search only seems to work if it is done on the first page of results. I'm thinking I may need to clear the cache or something, but I dont know exactly what to do. Any help would be appreciated.
    Tom

No worries, I sussed it. Had to add a process to the page to reset pagination.

  • SQL Developer export files not visible

    Hi All,
I've started using SQL Developer recently and I am completely new to this tool.
I've noticed a weird problem. All the export files and the folders I create from SQL Developer is not visible from the normal windows. Say I've executed a query and I need to export the output to a file. I right-click on the data grid; select Export Data -> xls/csv (anything) . I get a pop to mention the Location of the file. I click on Browse ; then select the location and then click on apply. I expect the file to be created. But when I go to that folder; I do not find any files.
To add on to my suprise; If i click on open a file and navigate to the above mentioned path; the pop-up shows that the file is present in that folder. But it is not visible from Windows. This is of no use as I cannot use those files.
    BTW; version is 2.1.1.64
Note: I've also enabled the option of viewing all hidden files and folders in Windows.
    Regards,
    Arun

    Hi Arun,
If you are using Windows Vista, Windows 7, or higher, and writing to a directory (like C:\, C:\Windows\, C:\Program Files\) that Microsoft wishes to protect from malware or just simple clutter , then you are running afoul of a redirect feature in the OS that puts the unwanted file in a VirtualStore folder for your user name, specifically:
C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\<full path where you think the file got stored>See the following for details:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-files/folder-redirect-in-windows-7/95218744-37e6-40cd-b890-2e647351df16
I just ran across this myself for the case of C:\ and perhaps this applies to your situation also.

  • Sql Developer 3.0 Notes

Overall, the new SQL Developer looks very good! I am very excited that you have added a spatial viewer! Bravo!!!
    I've noticed the followign issues:
    1. If you use the new "password" functionality (taken from SQL Plus, of course) more than once during a user session, it seems to lock up the SQL Developer application. Sometimes, in fact, it will lock it up even with the first.
    2. In the Map View, the Show Geometry Context tool does not seem to work for point geometries, and a bit inconsistently for polygons.
    3. In the Map View, it would be nice to be able to increase the display size of point geometries.
    Thanks,
    - Dave Caglarcan

    David,
    Regarding the MapViewer:
    2. In the Map View, the Show Geometry Context tool does not seem to work for point geometries, and a bit inconsistently for polygons.Since the point geometries are small you can always zoom (+) your view to see the points become small circles. You can then easily see context of the point geometries.
Regarding the polygons please provide us with more details ... Usually spatial data is dense therefore please make sure that the data is valid.
    3. In the Map View, it would be nice to be able to increase the display size of point geometries.Just zoom (+) and pan around. You can use the Marquee Zoom tool to select your area.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • Query Results and display behaviour

    Hi all,
sorry for this strange thread name but i couldn't find a better name.
Problem: In my developed application you can search for user. When the page first loads after login you can still view the results of the last query and of the last session. It should be an empty table. Only if you navigate in the application without loggin out the result should be viewable again if you navigate back to the search page
Please excuse this brief explanation but i am in a rush right now.
    Some advice?
    Thanks in advance
    Markus

    Hi Peter,
Thanks for your answer. Because I didn't had much time yesterday I didn't mentioned that I allready tried to clear the session state in a page process. I think the problem is not the session state but that the query is executed when the page is loading. I want to start the query only when a button is pressed or submitted via enter. The first time after login there should be no query result.
I hope it is a littlebit clearer now.
    Regards
    Markus
    Edit:
One thing I forgot. I can't use condition with 'request = expression 1' (expression 1 = P_GO request) because the condition is allready in use for some other application needs.

  • Declare, Set, and Use a variable in a SQL Developer Query

I come from the SQL Server world and am trying to do something very simple: Declare, set, and use a variable in a query. For example:
    Declare @lastPeriod date;
    Set @lastPeriod = (select max(payperiod) from table 1 where payperiod < current_date);
    Select field 1,
    Field2
    From table2
    Where payperiod = @lastPeriod
The variable is going to be used in more areas in the query which is why I am simply not using a Sub-query in the where clause. I appreciate any assistance.

This forum is for issues with the SQL Developer tool. You'd get more response in the SQL And PL/SQL forum.
That said, read up on bind variables and substitution variables.
Whenever you can you should use Bind variables (e.g. *:lastPeriod* ), as they increase performance. In sqldev, there's no need to declare as you will be prompted to enter them on execution (F9), but you do if you execute as script (F5) (e.g. VARIABLE lastPeriod VARCHAR2(30);).
Alternatively, Substitution variables (e.g. *&lastPeriod* ) will literally be substituted in your statement before the database parses it. In sqldev, there's no need to declare as you will be prompted to enter them on execution (either F9 or F5), but you can (DEF lastPeriod='TEST'; ).
    Have fun,
    K.

  • SQL*Developer 2.1 - Not Generating DDL for Different Users

Using SQL*Developer Version 2.1.0.63 I get an error trying to generate DDL from another user, that has access to many other schemas. It looks to me like Sql Developer is calling the DBMS_METADATA package from within other PL/SQL.
I am receiving the following error:
ORA-31603: object "ACCOUNT_TYPE_LKP" of type TABLE not found in schema "POR_OWN"
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_SYS_ERROR", line 105
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_METADATA", line 3241
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_METADATA", line 4812
    ORA-06512: at line 1
I would receive these same errors in SQL Developer 1.5, but the DDL would still generated. It was picking something up, even though it had an error.
Our DBA has not been able to provided a work around. He says you have to login directly as the owner of the objects to use dbms_metdata in this fashion.
Is there any work around for this? I really need to be able to get DDL and I do not want to go back to 1.5 (I like the other new features of 2.1).
    Thanks,
    Tom

We have several users currently using SQL Navigator and/or TOAD. We would like them to switch to SQL developer, but part of their job is to view the source of views in another schema. They have select privileges on the underlying tables and are able to see the source using other tools. Using SQL Developer, they receive on ORA-31603 because it's calling dbms_meta. Note ID 1185443.1 describes the issue and suggests granting the users the SELECT_CATALOG_ROLE.
We are hesitant about granting this role to these users which allows access to ever 1,700 objects, plus execute privileges to 4 objects.
Support indicated that Enhancement Request 8498115 addresses this issue.
Is this something that may be addressed in the next release?
    Thanks,
    Paul

  • Oracle SQL Developer for OSX not able to compile/execute/handle packages?

    Hi,
Have been stuck with this for quite some mins now,
When I execute this simple -valid- create package statement in Oracle SQL Developer:
    http://www.pastebin.ca/757859
It shows it's not compiled and has errors, when I check the Packages part in Oracle SQL Developer I see this:
    http://www.pastebin.ca/757860
The ; after end has been removed by the application. In fact this means I can't do anything with packages in Oracle SQL Developer for OSX?
    Is this a known bug?
Or am I doing something wrong?
Any resolving response to this matter would be really appreciated.

Yeah, that bug is in there since stoneage, and is really a no-brainer to fix. Until they don't, we'd be losing time recompiling.
FWIW, everything works fine using the procedure editor for creating, editing and compiling.
