  • Oracle SQL Developer and Errors (Line Number Incorrect)

    First, I wanted to state that Oracle SQL Developer 2 is a standout job.
    I wanted to report, though, that when Oracle SQL Developer 2 can't compile a block of code or a simple SQL statement has invalid syntax, it does not have an option to accurately go to the line of code in question. GOING TO the erroneous line of code doesn't need to be a feature, but often times the line no. REPORTED by Oracle SQL Developer is incorrect by 50+ lines.
    Is this something I could fix on my end? I have five other developers griping about this.
    Thank you!

    I don't know if this is the situation you are talking about, but line numbers for errors in SQL in a SQL Worksheet are not line numbers within the statement but rather line numbers in the worksheet. For example, with the following SQL in the worksheet:
    select * from dual;
    select * from dual;
    select * from dual;
    select from dual;Running the "select from dual;" statement (as either statement based on cursor position, selected statement or as script), the error is reported on Line 4, Column 7. As I show line numbers (Tools | Preferences | Code Editor | Line Gutter | Show Line Numbers), this makes sense. Without line numbers showing or having the option to go to the error and with more realistic examples with SQL statements scrolling off the page, I can see that the line number in the errors wouldn't be helpful.
    I think -K- is talking about the PL/SQL code editors not reporting the correct line number based on the error line not counting the "create or replace" line at the start of a package (and more for triggers).

  • SQL DEVELOPER INSTALLATION ERROR

    Hi Guru's,
    My OS : Linux
    DB : Oracle 10g
    When i am trying to install Oracle Sql Developer, I am getting the below error:
    Type the full pathname of a J2SE installation (or Ctrl-C to quit), the path will be stored in ~/.sqldeveloper/jdk
    I install jdk-7u9-linux-i586.rpm but i am still getting this error, wheather i need to set some path
    KIndly advice over the same.

    This is not really an error it's just SQLDeveloper requesting a JDK to run.
    You should supply a valid JDK 1.6.X path, where X should be the latests release of JDK6.
    on average linux systems a valid path should look like this
    /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_37JDK 7 is not officially supported yet, and there are known issues on it, so i'd advise you to install the latest JDK6 and use that.

    Hi, I'm running the following setup:
    Mac OS X 10.8.4

    Oracle Developer Days (don't know the version, just downloaded it)
    SQL Developer 3.2.20.09
    Networking is host-only, I tried bridged but that doesn't make a difference for the problem at hand. I can ping my virtual box just fine, telnet to port 1521 looks good too:
    $ ping 192.168.56.101

    When I create a new connection with sql developer, with the same hostname / IP (192.168.56.101), Port 1521 (didn't change that) and SID orcl, basic connection type, it can't even connect, throwing the error mentioned in the subject:
    Status : Failure -Test failed: IO Error: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
    I have looked at various threads in the forums here but I'm still stymied why the connection seems to be ok, yet sql developer has problems with it. If I create an ssh tunnel so sql developer only has to connect to localhost it works:
    ssh -L 1521:192.168.56.101:1521 -l oracle 192.168.56.101

    Hi Ali,
    This may be of varoius reasons..
    Is the database that you are connecting on the same PC?
    You have specified Hostname: localhost.
    If not please replace it with the IP of that server.
    Else please check whether the database listener is started or not. if not please start the listener.
    Check the SID by tnsping command.
    Hope this will help you..
    Thanks

  • SQL Developer Download Error

    Dear,
    I just finished my training for Oracle Financial Consultant, i need to download SQL Developer to learn and run the queries.
    I am downloading from following link
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/sqldev-ea-download-486950.html
    Download
    Oracle SQL Developer for 32-bit Windows (This zip file includes the JDK1.6.0_11)
    (203 M)
    To install and run:
    - Download the file above
    - Extract sqldeveloper.zip into any folder, using folder names
    - Within that folder, open the sqldeveloper folder
    - Double-click sqldeveloper.exe
    But when i run the application it gives me following error
    "The program cant start because MSVCR71.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem"
    even though i have installed it twice. but getting the same error.
    Kindly assist me AEAP.
    Thanks

    You don't provide any specifics about your OS and so on, but using a SQL Developer 32-bit download which includes jdk1.6.0_11 is the very simplest case. It should work on either a 32-bit or 64 version of Windows.
    I have never personally experienced the missing MSVCR71.dll error, but I did experience a missing MSVCR100.dll error when trying out jdk1.7.0 on WinXP 32-bit. The solution was to place a copy of MSVCR100.dll from jdk1.7.0 into the <sqldev_install>\sqldeveloper\sqldeveloper\bin directory where sqldeveloper.conf also resides.
    In your environment, for whatever reason (whether 64-bit WinXP, Vista, or Win7), the SQL Developer with jre install is complaining about a missing MSVCR71.dll. So I assume a symmetrical solution should work for you: place a copy of MSVCR71.dll into the same directory as sqldeveloper.conf. You should be able to find a copy of it in <sqldev_install>\sqldeveloper\jdk\jre\bin.
    Another poster followed this advice and it worked:
    SQL Developer won't start
    Also, you may want to check your sqldeveloper.conf file to make sure it contains a line like the following:
    SetJavaHome ../../jdk

  • 30EA3 SQL Developer 3 error message while migrating SQL sever database

    I was mirating a SQL sever 2005 database to Oracle 11g, and got the following error message during the process:
    "Migration action have failed. Check the migration reports for Detail. :null".
    After the error message, I could see the "Captured Database Objects" and "Converted Database objects" under the "Migration Projects". However, if I open the generated scripts, it only contains the fowlloing, nothing else:
    "SET DEFINE OFF;
    PROMPT Creating User Emulation ...
    CREATE USER Emulation IDENTIFIED BY Emulation DEFAULT TABLESPACE USERS TEMPORARY TABLESPACE TEMP;
    GRANT CREATE SESSION, RESOURCE, CREATE VIEW, CREATE MATERIALIZED VIEW, CREATE SYNONYM,CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM TO Emulation;"
    What's the cause of this problem, please advice. Thanks.
    Bob

    Hi Bob,
    The next thing in the generation script should have been the definition of the sqlserver_utilities package.
    This package emulates some of the system functions found in SQL Server.
    It gets placed into your converted model as the very last step of the conversion.
    Building the generation script (where your failure happened) is straight forward and I wouldn't expect an error here.
    I would guess something went wrong during the capture or conversion and is only surfacing during the generation phase when it tried to write the sqlserver_utilities package to the generation file.
    I could be wrong, but I would manually check that conversion completed successfully first.
    1) Browse you converted model under
    Migration Projects "Nav" : Projects > YourProjectName > YourModelName(default a date)> Converted Database Objects > Procedures > YourProcName
    a) Are there any red crosses on any of these nodes in your navigator ?
    b) If you right click on a converted database name is "reconvert" grayed out or available?
    c) run the following in the SQL Worksheet against the same connection you used for the migration repository
    select * from md_packages;
    Is there one row there with the definition of sqlserver_utilities in its package_header and native_sql columns?
    Also do you have anything in the capture issues, conversion status or conversion issues reports (double click you project and the migration reports should pop up on the right hand side, each report a separate tab) ?
    Just trying to pinpoint what happened here.
    Thanks for your feedback,

  • SQL Developer Bug: NVL() function error when debug/run stored procedure

    Version:
    SQL Developer: 1.5.3 (build main-5783)
    Oracle DB connected: Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.6.0
    Stored procedure code like this:
    procedure search(V_STATUS_IN IN CHAR(1)) is
    begin
    declare
    V_STATUS CHAR(1) := NULL;
    begin
    V_STATUS := NVL(V_STATUS_IN, '%'); -- error line
    end;
    end;
    The stored procedure runs well (I mean no oracle exception) when called through Java code (and in TOAD). But when debug/run in SQL Developer, following error at the error line:
    $Oracle.EXCEPTION_ORA_6502:
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    --------------------------------------------------*/

    What parameter are you passing in? It is possible you are trying to cram a multibyte character into a singlebyte container. What are the nls settings for the database and for sqldeveloper?

  • Cannot login to XE using PL/SQL Developer Tool

    Hi,
    I have problem using PL/SQL Developer with XE. Whenever I try to use PL/SQL Developer to connect to the XE, I am getting this error message from PL/SQL Developer:
    Initialization error: SQL*Net not properly installed.
    OracleHomeKey: SOFTWARE\ORACLE
    OracleHomeDir:
    Both the PL/SQL Developer and XE are installed on a same laptop which is having XP with SP2 and its firewall disabled.
    My "sqlnet.ora" reads the following:
    # This file is actually generated by netca. But if customers choose to
    # install "Software Only", this file wont exist and without the native
    # authentication, they will not be able to connect to the database on NT.
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS).
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Abdiqadir.

    Had the same problem myself. I tried this and it worked. Mind you, BOTH Oracle XE and PL/SQL Developer have to be on same machines. I have WinXPSP2. Change the installation paths as per your settings in the examples below.
    In PL/SQL Developer:
    - Tools-->Preferences-->Options Tab-->
    ---- Oracle Home (empty is autodected): enter this value: C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server
    ---- OCI Library (empty is autodected): enter this value:
    C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\BIN\ociw32.dll
    That's it. It worked for me.
