SQL Query Analyzer

I use SQL server and Query Analyzer.
What is the comparable/like "hopefully free" product that I can use with Oracle Database XE instead of the Run SQL command line program option?

It gives you screen where you can execute SQL scripting/commands such as create database objects such as tables, stored procedures, functions, etc. and run select/update/insert sql statements against the database.

    Please help me in this regard

    I'm pretty much certain that you don't want to do this in pure SQL. So that means that you want to do it with a reporting tool. I'm not familiar with SQL Query Analyzer, but if it is in fact a reporting tool you'll want to consult its documentation looking for the terms "pivot" or perhaps "cross tab."

  • Performance of native sql query detoriates

    Dear Experts,
    The performance of my native SQL query is bad. On the database the query takes less than 5 seconds to process. From my abap program I get a session timeout dump after 10 minutes. What might be the possible reason.
    Warm Regards,
    Abdullah

    I am not a DBA, but this is a wild guess.
    I have a native SQL query. It was running fine all morning(transported it to production today). By afternoon the report was not giving any output.
    I went to the MS SQL query analyzer and executed the query, it returned the results in less than 5 seconds. The same query when I was executing from SAP using native SQL took more than 10 minutes and gave a dump(time exceeded).
    My database guy asked me to execute the following on the database. Dbcc dbreindex('tablename')
    The report is running fine since then. I am still not satisfied if this is the reason the performance is back on track, but yeah the report is running fine again. There seems to be some problem with the indexes.
    I am using standard classes provided by SAP to execute my query and after execution the resultset reference object is being closed, I am closing the connection.
    the code is as below.

    I am trying to modify the export_to_excel package from Denes kubicek to provide me an excel from PL/SQL function body returning an SQL query.
    Here is the simplified PLSQL code in the region source.
    declare
    l2 varchar2(2000) null;
    begin
    l2:= 'Select NAME,ORIGINATED,OWNER,ORIGINATOR,';
    l2:= l2 || 'DESIGNATED_UNIT,SOURCE,';
    l2:= l2 || 'REFERENCE';
    l2:= l2 || ' from MV_DETAILED_DATA';
    return l2;
    end;

    As you mentioned earlier "copy the generated query string into an application item". [ +In the PL/SQL function body returning an SQL query, copy the generated query string into an application item. The app item value can then be passed as a parameter value to the procedure+ ]
    I do not know how to dynamically excute this PLSQL in the region source and obtain the returned value in my procedure.

  • Oracle Sql Query issue Running on Different DB Version

    Hello All,
    I have come into situation where we are pruning sql queries on different DB version of Oracle and have performance issue. Let me tell you in brief and i really appreciate for your prompt response as its very imperative stuff.
    I have a query which is running on a DB of version 7.3.4 and it takes around 30 mins where as the same query when run on 8i it takes 15sec., its a huge difference. I have run the statistics to analyze on 7.3 and its comparatively very high. Question here is, the sql query trys to select data from same schema table and 2 tables from another DB using DB link and 2 other tables from another DB using DB link.So,how can we optimize this stuff and achieve this run as same time as 8i DB in 7.3. Hope i am clear about my question, Eagerly waiting for your replies.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Difficult to be sure without any more detailed information, but I suspect that O7 is in effect copying the remote tables to local temp space, then joining; 8i is factoring out a better query to send to the remote DBs, which does as much work as possible on the remote DB before shipping remaining rows back to local.
    You should be able to use EXPLAIN PLAN to identify what SQL is being shipped to the remote DB, If you can't (and it's been quite a while since I tried DB links or O7) then get the remote DBs to yourself, and set SQL_TRACE on for the remote instances. Execute the query and then examine the remote trace files, And don't forget to turn off the tracing when you're done.
    Of course it could just be that the CBO got better,,,
    HTH - if not, post your query and plans for the local db, and the remote queries.

  • SQL Subscription field shows * only with Dynamic Text Label in SQL query

    We are using Hyperion Analyzer 7.2.x for showing budget and actual data. I have to show this financial data based on the security e.g. person in IT can see only IT dept. data. Hence I want to use dynamic text label <<userid>> for the security based on the person logging in to Analyzer.
    But when I use dynamic text label <<userid>> in the SQL query in SQL Spreadsheet, SQL Subscription field shows * only selection option. Does anyone have idea how to solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    -SV

    Hi
    Okay i know this is a bit crazy way.....but i think this is the solution for your issue.
    Create a report without the where clause (<<useris>>) then add a filter (sql subscription) then you can find all the values that are there in the SQL field (try to increase the query limit it is set to 250 as default) then edit the spreadsheet and add the where clause (<<userid>>).
    This will help you having the filter and the dynamic text label. I think there is an issue when you try to filter it with a where clause.
    Hope it helps.

  • Report running very slow compared to Query Analyzer - high TimeDataRetrieval

    Hi,
    I have a report in SQL Reporting Services 2005 which calls a stored proc and the report takes a very long time to run and sometimes returns zero records. But when i run the stored proc in query analyzer it takes about 4 seconds!!
    I have checked the execution log on the RS using the below sql:
    Code Snippet
    use ReportServer
    Select * from ExecutionLog with (nolock) order by TimeStart DESC
    It shows that i have a large amount of time for the dataretrieval (601309ms, about 10mins) and does not return any records most likely because of a query timeout:
    TimeDataRetrieval  TimeProcessing  TimeRendering Source Status         ByteCount RowCount
      601309                      2227                     3                         1            rsSuccess 4916           0
    The weird thing is that when i run it in query analyzer, i get about 400 records in 4 seconds !!
    I dont understand what RS is doing to take up so much time like this to retrieve data.
    The report is very simple - it basically returns the records straight out into a table.
    The only thing I somewhat suspected was a parameter data type conflict between RS and SQL, specifically dates. I have a start and end date parameter in the report - i tried specifying this as date and string to see if it made any difference but it didn't.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Mark,
    I didn't say it was an issue of parameter sniffing, and I didn't point you towards the good article about that <s>. I asked you whether you had read the article, described to you earlier in the thread.
    What I said was that it might be an issue of appropriate and dynamic query optimization, versus a cached query plan.  Parameter sniffing is only one of many ways that SQL Server tries to figure out how to optimize a query.  I thought the article did a good job of discussing some of what goes on during this process, and that by absorbing that you could think of ways to handle the wider issue that would be appropriate to your code.  I also pointed you to a thread in which I discussed this in more detail.
    While there are truly many issues with the date controls in the default parameter interface and how they behave, I don't think that what you're experiencing with the date format is implicated in the performance issue.  I guess it *might* be if (say) there is a non-default param value in your proc but your report parameter allows nulls.
    Let's say the report server database has a different date default than your production database in your system. I have never sat down and tested this scenario and I guess it might cause problems, So we'll look at that first.
    Whether the date format is at fault is really easy to prove one way or the other, and once proven can be pretty easy to fix:
    Create a test parameter that is of string type.  SQL Server is really good about dynamic conversion of string dates to date types as you probably know.
    place values (formatted however you want) into this version of the parameter instead of your date control parameter.  Use valid dates, in both formats.
    Does your performance change?
    Do you get the right results but bad performance with US format date strings versus right results with good performance with AU date values?
    Do you get the WRONG results with US format date strings, or with AU date strings?
    Try additional permutations involving casting/converting in your proc.
    FWIW, go ahead in the Query Analyzer and put the SAME values you see in the log into your tests there (in US format, I mean).  Do you get the CORRECT results?  Does performance change?  Hold this thought and see below.
    Another thing you can do is look at the query plan as presented by the Query Analyzer when you present the arguments different ways.  See #7 above -- try presenting the date in different formats.  Does the plan show the same path and the same indexes in use each time, or are some not possible because of the way the date has to be converted?  When this happens, the issue is usually that the conversion must be done for each line compared in the filter.  You can fix this really easily in most cases by cast/convert in the procedure so that your SELECT line is only doing that work once.
    If the plans are different, and perhaps the indexes used are different and you *can't* fix it by fixing the date before the SELECT, do you need to add an index, or perhaps rebuild one?
    Moving on from the date format, as I said before it may be really important NOT to go by your interactive Query Analyzer performance because what you do there may not be used by SQL Server in determining a query plan to cache and re-use.  In case you haven't read the other discussion that I pointed you to at (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1827775&SiteID=1), think about using RECOMPILE or other options that will force a more dynamic investigation of the query.

  • Exact time of SQL query execution.

    Hi,
    Is there any way to get the exact time of execution of particular SQL query.
    Oracle Version : 10.2.0.4.0
    OS : Sun OS.
    Thx,
    Gowin.

    In general it's pretty hard.
    Look at V$SQLSTAT.ELAPSED_TIME and DBA_HIST_SQLSTAT.ELAPSED_TIME_TOTAL/DELTA (need a license).
    It will give you accurate results for a non-parallel query. For parallel queries you'll get a total time spent by all slaves.
    Also you can enable tracing either on database or session level and analyze the trace files generated.
