Sql query trouble

Hi i am having trouble getting my head around an sql query. The query:
"SELECT t.pub_name, tl.accountno
FROM tenant_login tl, tenants t
WHERE t.pub_name = '"+name+"' AND t.accountno = tl.accountno";
produces a list of pub names and account numbers when an account number exists both in tenant_login and tenants.
How do i create a query that lists the pubname and account numbers where the account number exists in tenants but NOT in tenant_login?
Thanks

SELECT t.pub_name, tl.accountno
FROM tenants t
WHERE t.pub_name = '"+name+"' AND t.accountno not in
(select accountno from tenant_login )one small change i think
SELECT t.pub_name, t.accountno
FROM  tenants t
WHERE t.pub_name = '"+name+"' AND t.accountno not in
(select accountno from tenant_login )

  • Having troubles passing values of Shuttle control to SQL Query of Report and Chart Region

    Hello,
    I am very new to APEX and need help for one of the Pa.I have a shuttle control on my page which populates Categories. Once user selects Categories from this control, I wish to pass the values to following SQL query :
    select * from emp_class where category IN ( LIST of VALUES FROM RIGHT SIDE SHUTTLE).
    I tried various ways of doing this including writing a java scripts which reads shuttle value, converts it into below string
    'Category1',Category2',Category3'. Then I set this value to a text box. And then I was expecting that below trcik would work
    select * from emp_class where category IN (:TXT_VALUES)
    I am sure this is not right way and hence its not working. Can you please guide me here with options?
    Many Thanks,

    Don't understand what this means. What is "Pa"?
    select * from emp_class where category IN (:TXT_VALUES)
    I am sure this is not right way and hence its not working. Can you please guide me here with options?
    This is a common fallacy. In
    select * from table where columnvalue in (7788, 7839, 7876)
    (7788, 7839, 7876) is an expression list and the predicate is evaluated as a membership condition.
    In
    select * from table where columnvalue in :P1_X
    :P1_X is a scalar string, incapable of containing multiple values.
    In an APEX standard report, a PL/SQL function body returning an SQL query report source with lexical substitution can be used to produce a "varying IN-list":
    return 'select * from table where columnvalue in (' || :P1_X || ')';
    where P1_X contains fewer than 1000 values, has been sanitized for SQL injection, and string values are properly quoted.
    Some people suggest the following approach, which will also work in APEX interactive reports:
    select * from table where instr(':' || :P1_X || ':', ':' || columnvalue || ':') > 0
    However this is non-performant as it eliminates the possibility of the optimizer using indexes or partition pruning in the execution plan.

  • Trouble referencing BI Publisher parameters in SQL Query (nQSError: 46033)

    Hello everyone,
    I have a query that references some Parameters I created in BI Publisher. They are:
    grade_var of type String
    school_var of type String
    school_year of type String
    The SQL used to for the data model of the report is:
    SELECT "KW School Year"."School Year", "KW Grade"."Grade Seq Nbr", "KW Grade"."Grade Desc", "KWC Enrolment"."Student Count", +(case WHEN "KW School"."School Name" = 'Campbell Collegiate' then "KW School"."School Name" else 'Z - Other School' end)+
    FROM "Sask DW"
    WHERE ("KW Student"."Student Nbr" IN
    (SELECT "KW Student"."Student Nbr"
    FROM "Sask DW"
    WHERE ("KW School"."Post Secondary Institute Ind" = 'N')
    AND ("KW Enrolment Outcome"."Enrolment Outcome" NOT IN ('Deceased', 'Transferred to out-of-country schooling', 'Transferred to out-of-province schooling'))
    AND ("KW Grade"."Grade Desc" = :grade_var)
    AND ("KW School"."School Name" = :school_var)
    AND ("KW School Year"."School Year" = :school_year_var)) )
    AND ("KW School"."Post Secondary Institute Ind" = 'N')
    AND ("KW Enrolment Outcome"."Enrolment Outcome" NOT IN ('Deceased', 'Transferred to out-of-country schooling', 'Transferred to out-of-province schooling'))
    AND +("KW School Year"."School Year" >= '2005/2006')+
    The above query works great and I can get back results and throw them into a template and it works great. The problem comes when I want to change what is highlighted in italics text. School Name and School Year values are hard coded into the SQL but I want those to reference the value of the BI Publisher parameter. It seems to work fine in the bolded part but when I put the paramater name into the italics part, I get the error message:
    java.io.IOException: prepare query failed[nQSError: 46033] Datatype: 25 is not supported.
    The query I am trying to submit is (changes highlighted in bold):
    SELECT "KW School Year"."School Year", "KW Grade"."Grade Seq Nbr", "KW Grade"."Grade Desc", "KWC Enrolment"."Student Count", *(case WHEN "KW School"."School Name"=:school_var then "KW School"."School Name" else 'Z - Other School' end)*
    FROM "Sask DW"
    WHERE ("KW Student"."Student Nbr" IN
    (SELECT "KW Student"."Student Nbr"
    FROM "Sask DW"
    WHERE ("KW School"."Post Secondary Institute Ind" = 'N')
    AND ("KW Enrolment Outcome"."Enrolment Outcome" NOT IN ('Deceased', 'Transferred to out-of-country schooling', 'Transferred to out-of-province schooling'))
    AND ("KW Grade"."Grade Desc" = :grade_var)
    AND ("KW School"."School Name" = :school_var)
    AND ("KW School Year"."School Year" = :school_year_var)) )
    AND ("KW School"."Post Secondary Institute Ind" = 'N')
    AND ("KW Enrolment Outcome"."Enrolment Outcome" NOT IN ('Deceased', 'Transferred to out-of-country schooling', 'Transferred to out-of-province schooling'))
    AND ("KW School Year"."School Year" >= :school_year_var)
    The parameters are all of type string and all the columns I am comparing them to are VARCHAR. What doesn't make sense is that the parameters can be compared to the columns in the middle of the SQL but when I try a similar comparison near the beginning and at the end, I get the error shown above.
    Any thoughts/tips?
    Thanks!

    Hi Jared,
    Did you have any success with the syntax suggested? I am having the same issue and would like to know if using the parameter as part of the SQL query select statement is feasible. The goal is to have a column dynamically selected based on a parameter value. My example:
    SELECT
    CASE
    WHEN :p_name = 'Joe' THEN table1.column_a
    WHEN :p_name = 'Tom' THEN table1.column_b
    ELSE table1.column_c
    END
    FROM ...

  • Having trouble writing to a database although SQL query is correct

    Hi there. I am trying to write an sql query to a database but I am failing to understand what is going wrong in terms of executing the query.
    I have the following code.
    static public int writeToStockTable (String suppIn, String nameIn, String typeIn, float quantIn, float priceIn, String descIn, String styleIn, String finishIn)         {               // Temporary variable to hold the SQL query               String SQLString, SQLString2;               ResultSet rs = null;                                     // Build a string containing the SQL INSERT instruction to be used later             SQLString = "INSERT INTO "+typeIn+" VALUES ('1', '" + suppIn + "', '" + nameIn + "', " + quantIn + ", " + priceIn + ", '"+descIn+"', '"+styleIn+"', '"+finishIn+"')";             SQLString2 = "SELECT Name FROM Suppliers WHERE Name = '" + suppIn + "'";                                         try                   {                         // The createStatement() method creates a Statement object.  Object will be                         // attached to my reference variable (statement) defined at the top of class.                         statement = connectionToBellFiresDB.createStatement();                                                 // The executeUpdate() statement can be used here to execute an                         // SQL INSERT instruction.                         rs = statement.executeQuery (SQLString2);                         if ((rs == null))                         {                             System.out.println ("Trying to say no supplier");                             return (-2);                         }                                                 else                         {                             System.out.println (SQLString);                             statement.executeUpdate (SQLString);                         }                                           }                 catch (SQLException exception)                   {                       return (-1);    // Return -1 if problem writing record to file                   }                             return (0);  // Return with 0 if record successfully written                       }
    Please ignore the attributes not used, it is very much a work in progress. The command that prints SQLString prints
    INSERT INTO Fireplace VALUES ('1', 'a', 'a', 1.0, 1.0, 'a', 'a', 'a')
    which is correct, but will return the error code -1 when asked to execute the query. The database jdbc:odbc driver has been initialised in the control panel and the program has no other problems accessing the database as far as i am aware.
    Any help would be appreciated, i hate database connections :)

    Im sorry i dont know what you mean by eating the exception, im quite a noob at programming to be honest!
    How do i print it out and what is a stack trace?Do you know what an exception is? If not, then you should stay far away from JDBC/Database programming for the time being.
    Read [the Exception Tutorial|http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/essential/exceptions/] first.
    Then: an exception has quite a bit of useful information attached that tells you what went wrong.
    In your case you catch the exception and ignore everything it could tell you by simply returning -1. Returning 0 and -1 to indicate success/failure is a very bad idea and should not be used in Java code, it's a C-style convention for C-era programming languages. In Java you use exceptions instead.
    For starters you could simply add "exception.printStackTrace()" in your catch-block to get some more information out of the exception.

  • Troubles with af:treeTable based on ViewObject after replacing SQL query.

    Hi everyone!
    We have <af:treeTable> component in our application, based on 3 ViewObject instances. These instances have the following structure in the Application Module:
    RootViewObject
    |----MainViewObject
    |----------|--------------ManagedViewObject
    According to our business logic, we change SQL query programmatically, reexecute all queries, refresh <af:treeTable> component, but the content of our tree table does not change after these actions. I have tried to output content of ViewObjects after changing and reexecuting the queries, and I have found out that the data in the ViewObjects have been changed!
    Why does the content of the <af:treeTable> component NOT change after refreshing it programmatically?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

  • SQL Query Help Needed

    I'm having trouble with an SQL query. I've created a simple logon page wherein a user will enter their user name and password. The program will look in an Access database for the user name, sort it by Date/Time modified, and check to see if their password matches the most recent password. Unfortunately, the query returns no results. I'm absolutely certain that I'm doing the query correctly (I've imported it directly from my old VB6 code). Something simple is eluding me. Any help would be appreciated.
    private void LogOn() {
    //make sure that the user name/password is valid, then load the main menu
    try {
    //open the database connection
    Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:odbc:LawOffice2000", "", "");
    Statement select = con.createStatement();
    String strTemp = "Select * From EMPLOYEES Where INITIALS = '" + txtUserName.getText() + "' Order By DATE Desc, TIME Desc";
    ResultSet result = select.executeQuery(strTemp);
    while(result.next()) {
    if (txtPassword.getPassword().toString() == result.getString("Password")) {
    MenuMain.main();
    else {
    System.out.println("Password Bad");
    System.out.println(txtUserName.getText());
    System.out.println(result.getString("Password"));
    break; //exit loop
    //close the connection
    con.close(); }
    catch (Exception e) {
    System.out.println("LawOfficeSuite_LogOn: " + e);
    return; }
    }

    The problem is here: "txtPassword.getPassword().toString() == result.getString("Password"))"
    Don't confuse String's equals() method with the equality operator '=='. The == operator checks that two references refer to the same object. If you want to compare the contents of Strings (whether two strings contain the same characters), use equals(), e.g. if (str1.equals(str2))...
    Example:String s1 = "foo";
    String s2 = new String("foo");
    System.out.println("s1 == s2: " + (s1 == s2)); // false
    System.out.println("s1.equals(s2): " + (s1.equals(s2))); // trueFor more information, check out Comparison operators: equals() versus ==

  • How to pass parameter value as "where [fieldname] = [fieldvalue]" in sql query under query type in SSRS report?

    I am having trouble with passing dynamic string to sql query for executing SSRS reports.
    I am using oracle database and I want to pass where clause parameter as "where LAND_NR = 6" to my select query.
    For example: I want to execute Select * from employee :p_where.
    where p_where parameter holds value "where LAND_NR = 6"
    So it will treat as "Select * from employee where LAND_NR = 6" statement which will give me the list of records to display in my reports.
    But it's not taking correct sql command throwing an error as "SQLcommand not properly ended."
    How can I achieve this?

    You need to use dynamic sql

  • Passing a string into an SQL query IN statement

    Hello,
    I need to connect to a database to pull some data to dynamically create a form based on the data I pull back. My SQL query works fine when I manually run it through a SQL client tool, but when I try to pass it through my workflow I'm having trouble with passing my string into the IN part of the statement. So if for example my SQL query is:
    SELECT Field1, Field2, Field3 FROM Table1 WHERE Field4 IN (?)
    I have a process variable that has the string I'm trying to pass into the ?, but I don't seem to be able to get the query to run. I have tried setting up my query to run as a Parameterized Query (passing my string process variable into the ?), and by setting the query up through xPath (where I am calling my process variable with an xPath declaration), but am not having any luck.
    The process variable I am trying to pass is formatted such that I'm passing 'Value1','Value2','Value3' but I can reformat this string if need be. Even with using test data I can't get the query to return anything. For test data I have tried: 'Value1','Value2','Value3' ; Value1','Value2','Value3 ; Value1,Value2,Value3 but the query never returns any data. I can't seem to see how to format the string to pass into the query. The Query will work with a single Value in the test data, but as soon as I try to pass multiple values within the string it fails. Any suggestions?

    The problem looks to be a limit on what I can pass into the SQL query component. My string is coming from data returned from another database. I take the xml output from that database call, pass it through a set variable component to remove my xml tags from the string, and then format the string in a script component (I have to do it this way because of the way the data coming out of my first database call). I've put in loggers, and can see that the string I'm passing into my query that is giving me problems, is formatted the same way as if I were to use the concat function Scott listed above. It looks like there is a limitation on what can be passed in my variable. I have tried creating my entire SQL query statement in a set variable component, and then just calling the process variable that holds that statement, but there is a character limit of 128 character for what can be passed in a variable through xpath in the SQL query component.
    The next thing I tried was changing my SQL where clause. Instead of passing my variable directly into the IN statement I set up a PATINDEX('%:'+countyname+ ':%', ?) > 0 call to check for the values in my database call. As you can see I took out the "," that I was passing as part of my string, thinking that the SQL component was getting confused by them, and placed ":" characters around my values being passed in my string variable. No matter what I try to do though I'm not able to get the query to run. The component looks like it is taking my string, and is seeing the whole thing as a string instead of passing it as individual values within a string.
    I think I'm getting close, but I keep getting a Content not allowed in prolog exception in the server logs.

  • Oracle SQL Query from EXCEL 2007 with prompt

    Hello,
    I have many excel reports where I am pulling information from our Oracle 9 db through Excel using the following method:
    http://blog.mclaughlinsoftware.com/microsoft-excel/how-to-query-oracle-from-excel-2007/
    http://blog.mclaughlinsoftware.com/2009/11/30/sql-query-in-excel-2007/
    However, I am having trouble when I try the following query due to the prompt:
    SELECT
    IM.ITEM_GROUP,
    IM.ITEM,
    IM.DESCRIPTION
    FROM
    LAWSON.ITEMMAST IM
    WHERE
    IM.ITEM = '&ITEM';
    Does any one know how I can connect a prompt to an excel cell and then pass the query on to Oracle, or have a PL SQL prompt work from Excel?
    Thanks,
    Ben

    The 'prompt' as you call it is a sqlplus feature, so does not belong to the SQL language
    You would need to write a stored procedure returning a resultset.
    create or replace procedure foo(rc in out sys_refcursor, p_item) as
    begin
    open rc for
    'SELECT
    IM.ITEM_GROUP,
    IM.ITEM,
    IM.DESCRIPTION
    FROM
    LAWSON.ITEMMAST IM
    WHERE
    IM.ITEM = '||p_item;
    end;
    and call that using ODBC or asp.net
    Obviously this is profusely documented.

  • Handling property name with spaces in SQL query

    Hello,
    I have some JSON that looks like this:
        "SystemId": "112234",
        "Parameter": {
            "Total Hours": [
                    "timestamp": "2015-03-15T15:20:00Z",

                    "itemValue": "296"
    ..and am having trouble with the space in the "Total Hours" property name.  When executing a SQL query, I have tried to reference it as ["Total Hours"], [Total Hours], and "Total Hours", but none of these works.  I
    have also reviewed the "Querying DocumentDB" and "DocumentDB SQL Query Language" documents, but am unclear on how to escape this space.  As this is valid JSON, I would expect to be able to handle it via DocumentDB SQL query, but am
    not certain what I am missing.
    Thanks for your help.
    Please remember to mark replies as answers if they help you.

    Given that the property with the name with the space contains an array, I attempted to query using:
     SELECT * FROM c WHERE c.Parameter.c["Total Hours"][0].timestamp = "2015-03-15T15:15:00Z" and a few other permutations, but no luck.  Did I misunderstand?

  • SQL Query Data Model Question

    Hi All,
    I'm new to XMLPublisher so i'll try to explain the best i can the problem i'm having creating a Data Model for my report.
    I'm using Database XE and have installed XMLPublisher, as XE is extremely flexible in creating apps i'm having huge trouble finding a reporting solution for my applicaiton. I have created an app to track and control time and expense which i want to generate timesheet, expense sheets, invoice etc from.
    Having done some read i think XML is the best approach for me however i'm having huge troubles with my data model.
    EXAMPLE:
    I have 2 tables to start with, first table holds client information and the second table holds project information. One client can have many projects.
    When i create the Data Model using SQL i get the obvious problem that when a client has more then one project my XML structure is incorrect.
    SELECT gc.name AS CLIENT,
    gp.name AS PROJECT
    FROM gte_client gc,
    gte_project gp
    WHERE gc.client_id = gp.client_id(+)
    The above SQL creates the following XML
    - <ROWSET>
    - <ROW>
    <NAME>Symatrix Ltd</NAME>
    <NAME>Symatrix Pre-Sales</NAME>
    </ROW>
    - <ROW>
    <NAME>Aston Carter</NAME>
    <NAME>MOD</NAME>
    </ROW>
    - <ROW>
    <NAME>Symatrix Ltd</NAME>
    <NAME>Fujitsu</NAME>
    </ROW>
    </ROWSET>
    Obvious problem here is the fact that client Symatrix appears twice as there are 2 projects.
    I have tried to write SQL/XML and i think i'm beginning to understand the structure of the XML functions however XMLPublisher doesn't appear to understand the syntax when creating a SQL Query for the data model.
    I hope all this makes sense.
    Kind Regards
    Glen

    Hi All,
    Ok, so with a little searching through documents and articles on the web i found this information.

  • Using prompts with SQL query

    Post Author: wleonetti
    CA Forum: Crystal Reports
    Hello!
    I have acquired a report from our regional headquarters, and have been asked locally to add a prompt to one that already exists in the report.
    The report currently uses an SQL query, which in turn uses a single prompt to limit the data reported. However, the name of the parameter in the Field Explorer in Parameter Fields is "Facility", but, when I use the Database Expert and select edit for the query (under Selected Tables, right-click on "Command" under the database and click on "Edit Command"--is Command a default name?), under the Parameter List, the name of the parameter there is "Facility1" (?). The SQL references the parameter "Facility1" (...like '{?Facility1}'), but I cannot find any link/interface between the Parameter List "Facility1" to the Parameter Field "Facility", and I cannot find any other references to "Facility1" anywhere else in the report (sorry, I'm very new at CR, and am not sure how to do a global search of a desired text string in the reports).
    I have asked the author for an explanation, but he would only offer, after indicating that he ... was not obligated to help me in any way .., the following bone: "I just simply rename the parameter in Command from Facility1 to Facility which bears the same name as the parameter interface and it just works fine." This only served to confuse me more, since the parameter name currently in Command is  "Facility1" (and the report works the way it is)--when I change the name of the parameter in Parameter List (and the parameter name in the SQL query) to "Facility" (to match the Parameter Field's "Facility"?) ... the parameter in the Parameter Fields ... disappears?
    Can someone please instruct me how to, in whatever steps are necessary, add a parameter to the Parameter Fields and edit the SQL code to use that parameter? or point me to some documentation that will help me with this?
    Thanks in advance for any help offered.

    Hi Eric,
    Try expressing the source as this:
    begin
       return functionname(to_date('30-sep-2010', 'dd-mon-yyyy'));
    end;That works fine for me, and if I take out the begin-end and the trailing semicolon from the return statement I get the same behavior as you.
    It does mention in the help for the source (only during the wizard though) that this source type has to be expressed that way, but I agree it would be helpful if the tool would validate for this format when 'Function Returning SQL Query' is used or give some sort of indication of the trouble. Anyway, this should get you going again.
    Hope this helps,
    John

  • Using 'Function Returning SQL Query' with Flash charts

    I have created a pl/sql function that returns a SQL query as a varchar2 of this form:
    select null link
    <x value> value
    <Series1 y value> Series 1 Label
    <Series2 y value> Series 2 Label
    <Series3 y value> Series 3 Label
    from tablea a
    join tableb b
    on a.col = b.col
    order by <x value>
    If I now call the function from a Flash Chart Series SQL box with the Query Source Type set to 'Function Returning SQL Query' like this:
    return functionname(to_date('30-sep-2010', 'dd-mon-yyyy'))
    it parses correctly and the page is saved; however, when I run the page I don't get any output - nor any error messages or other indication of a problem.
    Now, if I call the function in a SQL client, capture the SQL query output using dbms_output and paste that into the Flash Chart Series SQL box - changing the Query Source Type to SQL Query - and save the page it works fine when I run it and returns a multi-series flash chart.
    Can anyone suggest either;
    1. What have I might have missed or done wrong?
    2. Any way to usefully diagnose the problem...
    I have tried using the Apex debugger - which is very nice, by the way - but it doesn't provide any info on what my problem might be. I even tried writing my own debug messages from my function using the apex_debug_message package - got nothing...
    Thanks,
    Eric

  • Date in sql query problem

    Hi,
    I have a search form with 1 field (date picker) - the user chooses a date and a report based on a sql query is shown.
    I want the report to be based on only the month and year, and not the particular day.
    If there is a date picker (or something similar) for only month and/or year, then I can change my form, but I don't see this option.
    So, I'm trying to write my query to ignore the Day portion in the search form and just do a search based on the month and year, but i'm having trouble with this.
    This is my query...
    select d.dept, count(e.emp_id) "No. of Employees"
    from dept d, employees e
    where e.date_created = trunc(:P13_DATE, 'MONTH YYYY')
    and d.dept_id = e.dept_id
    group by dept
    order by dept
    How do I write the where clause so that the search is done only on month and year?
    Or otherwise, how can I change the search form to exclude the day from the date?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Oh, the invalid number is the result of :P13_DATE being a string value. all item values are actually strings (or varchar2 if you like) when you referencing them with ':Px_ITEM' format. With the pl/sql function there are 2 possible ways to reference item, namely the function: V('Px_ITEM') and NV('Px_ITEM'). Although in SQL varchar2 => number conversion can be dealed with by the SQL engine.
    Unfortunally there is no pl/sql method for getting a DATE of an date-picker item (based on its format mask etc.). Patrick Wolf has added this function in his ApExLib framework, function DV. I find this a nice extension.
