SQL Server 2005 64 bit and Oracle 9
Hi,
I have a situation which involves SQL Server 2005 64 bit and Oracle 9 32 bit,
I have a requirement that involves creating Stored Procedures from Oracle 9 which will call tables from SQL Server 2005 64 bit, with operations involving 'Select' 'Insert' 'Update' and 'Delete'.
it works fins, except when attempting to search for an SQL Server 'varchar' value, wher no mapping is done
though the Oracle sees the field as 'varchar2'
can anyone please advice on this
thanks
Basel
I think you're somehow not getting a resuklt because you're query doesn't return any data.
Why the fiealdA=pat=parameterA construct? Wouldn't it just work if you changed it to fieldA=parameterA?
Also, can you not just define parameterA as a varchar to make them match?
What if you do "select * from (<your query without where>) a where a.fieldA = :parameterA"
While not efficient, it would make the filtering occur in Oracle and maybe that will let you see the problem in native Oracle land and then reuse the solution in your orginal query. If that doesn't work, drop the where clause and inspect the data closly and hardcode a simple where without using PL*SQL or bind variables.

If migrating it might be worth considering The SQLDeveloper Migration Workbench (which moves more than just data)..

Hi,
1st server (DB Server)
OS : Windows 2000 Server
Oracle 8i Server (32 bit)
2nd server (Web Server)
OS : Windows 2003 SP2 (64 bit)
Oracle 9i client (32 bit)
After i installed, oracle 9i client (32 bit) in Windows 2003 SP2 (64 bit), i managed to install and configure tnsnames and connects using SQL Plus. However, i CANNOT see Oracle in ODBC.
Que 1 : Why? Why i cannot see any Oracle in ODBC? Is it because of 64 bit?
Que 2: If i installed Oracle 9i client (64 bit), will it solve the problem?
Que 3: Will my .Net software gives problem when application installed in IIS interacts with DB server???
thanks

SQL Server 2005 Migration to Oracle 10g
Does anyone have any idea if a Migration Workbench beta plug-in exists for SQL Server 2005 to Oracle 10g. I have a production system waiting to be moved over to Oracle and the users are getting impatient.
If there is nothing yet, does anyone have an alternate procedure to migrate a small schema (20 tables + 10 stored procedures) with a large amount of data?Probably late in the day for this but
The workbench cannot handle SS2K5 directly at the moment. However as long as no new SS2K5 functionality has been used with a few tweaks this can be achieved.
1. Firstly use the SS2K offline capture scripts to build the directories for the database(s) you want to capture.
2 Secondly edit
(a) SS2K_SYSLOGINS.dat and take out long SS2K5 user records
(b) SS2K_SYSINDEXES.dat change FIRST ( forth column) to a value (say hex 1).
(c) SS2K_SYSUSERS.dat change ROLES (sixth column) to a value (say hex 1).
This should now load into the workbench. If it does not check the error.log file in <OMWB HOME>\log. -
Howto take SQL Server 2005 Cluster AND Cluster Group Offline
I need to update firmware on the backend storage used by our Active/Passive SQL Server 2005 Cluster. The first step in the process states that all I/O to the disks should be stopped. Per that, I need to take the the SQL Server cluster offline AND the cluster group; however, I then need to use one of the servers that participates in the cluster to perform the upgrade on the storage array. Using the process (which doesn't account for having to use one of clustered servers to perform updates) outlined at http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1550288&SiteID=1 as a basis, below is my best guess regarding what I will need to do:
Shutdown:
1. Backup all of your databases prior to the outage and ensure they are in a safe place (NOT on the disk drives in the cluster)
2. Take the SQL Server group OFFLINE. This will cleanly shutdown the SQL Server and it will remain offline when you power the machine back on.
3. Once SQL Server is offline, power off the node which does NOT have the cluster resource currently running on it
4. Save the node which is running the cluster group for last - make a note of this machine as it will be the first one you power back on. MY ADDITION: Before powering it down, set the cluster service to manual so that when you restart the server to perform the storage array maintenance, the cluster will not be running - and likewise not generating I/O against the disk array.
MY ADDITION: 5. Restart the server from step 4. Takes the cluster offline "cleanly" and brings the server back on line so that the storage array maintenance can be performed.
6. Update the firmware on the storage array. After that is complete, set the cluster service back to "Automatic".
Start up:
1. Restart the server. Per the previous steps, the server to be restarted will be the server that last hosted the cluster group and the one used to update the firmware on the storage array.
2. RDP into the node, open cluster administrator, and verify that the cluster came back online successfully and everything looks clean
3. Power on the second node.
4. Failover the cluster group across each node in the cluster and validate that everything looks OK
5. Bring your SQL Server groups back online
6. Validate that everything is operational
Is there a better way to do this or official documentation for the process?
Thanks.FYI: I did use the process outlined above to briing the cluster offline, perform updates, and bring it back online. It worked as I had hoped. As a test, I had also done the same on a test [non-SQL] cluster prior to making the updates to our SQL cluster. Is it the best way to do it? Who knows. Did it work? Yes.

Hi,
I was setting up VMware vCenter 4.1 (probably the only well known and largely used product with this lethal mix) and needed to setup an ODBC access to Oracle on the 32 bit side of Windows to setup the Update Manager server component, which is still a 32 bit application)
The problem with Oracle configuration is that in no way I found a 32 bit ODBC registered driver after the setup (of the 32 bit client and the 64 database server). I tried some third party driver for oracle (e.g. easysoft). They registered in the 32 bit ODBC manager but they never got a successful connection.
Also if this vCenter requirement is questionable (more questionable considering that the setup of this 32 component is not allowed on a 32 separate OS, not because it is separate but because is a 32 bit OS) I would get it working.
Could suggest a way to get this working?
Thanks
Fabio D'AlfonsoWhen you install the Oracle client software on Windows (which is necessary to support ODBC, as the Oracle ODBC driver sits on top of the native client software) the ODBC driver is NOT installed by default. You have to go back and do a "custom" install and select the "Windows components". -

Hi,
We face an issue while migrating an SQL Server 2005 DB to Oracle 11.2. It fails during the process. I hope someone on the forum has seen this before and can give us some advice.
I use the latest version of SQL Developer with JRE included (3.2.20.09). The JDBC driver to connect to SQL Server 2005 is 1.2.0
Here are the steps we take in the Migration Workbench wizard:
I made an online extract of the SQL Server database.
Using the workbench in SQL Developer I created a migration repository in schema PDM_MIGRATION.
Next I start the migration, it captures the tables fine, but immediately after the start of the conversion I get a failed message without further explanations.
This is the content of the error xml:

Thanks for your reply.
This is how the type MIGR_FILTER looks like:
create or replace
TYPE MIGR_FILTER IS OBJECT (

I think the repository user has the correct privileges. This is the overview of privileges it has:

I have an I series (IBM AS400) server linked "OK" to a sql 2005 sql server (32 big). I copied the link script (but changed credentials) from the sql server 2005 link and attempted to run it in the sql server 2014 server (on win 7 64

Rich PThank you for this reply. I went to the link and selected the option for DB2s and ran the install. Then I started up SSMS. I copied the same script as above, and it executed successfully. But when I try to run a query against
a table in a database on this linked sever -- I get this error message:

Do I need to change the line containing -- @provider=N'MSDASQL', maybe?
this is the query I'm running:
select TOP 10 * from CWMPDTA.T9S.CWMPDTA.INSKU
The same exact query runs fine on the sql server 2005 linked server. Is there something I need to configure?

Edited by: user10226917 on Jun 8, 2011 1:42 AMHi,
I have tested using the following -
SQL*Developer Version 3.0.04 Build MAIN-04.34
and did the following -
Tools - Migration - Translation Scratch Editor
- made sure I was using the 'Microsoft SQL Server T-SQL to PL/SQL ' option in the 'Translateor' tab.
Then in the worksheet put in your entry -
PRINT '@HID=' + CAST(@HID AS VARCHAR(100))
This is then translated to the following -
BEGIN
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('@HID=' || CAST(v_HID AS VARCHAR2(100)));
END;
Is this what you did and the entry you typed into the scratch pad ?
If not, can you give the full code that gave the error -
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('@HierID=' || CAST(v_HierID AS VARCHAR2(100)));
DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('@NodeType=' || CAST(v_NodeType AS VARCHAR2(100)));

Errors while migrating from Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to Oracle 9i
Hi All,
We are trying to completely move our application from Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Database to Oracle 9i. I am doing it using the latest version of Oracle SQL Developer (1.2 build 29.98).
When I right click my MSSQL server db and click "Capture Microsoft SQL server", it just shows a dialog with "Close" enabled.
Kindly help.
The migration Log has the following messages:

Sql server 2005, R/3 4.6c and compability mode
Hi
I doing upgrade from 4.6c --> ECC 6.0 on sql server 2005. And i get followin error
SCRIPT MSSINCHK
=================
Msg 468, Level 16, State 9, Server MEDIASP10, Line 55
Cannot resolve the collation conflict between "SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN" and
"SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2" in the equal to operation.
Msg 468, Level 16, State 9, Server MEDIASP10, Line 66
Cannot resolve the collation conflict between "SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN" and
"SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2" in the equal to operation.
Execution completed successfully
I have checked that collation order is correct.
I think that problem that somehow sql server's compability mode is recognized wrong (sql server 2000 insted sql server 2005).
Any colution on this ?
Br, Juha NiemiHi there,
I'm running into this same issue when trying to run PREPARE for the 4.6c to ERP/ECC 6.0 upgrade in phase INITPUT_PRE. I ran several of the queries mentioned in this thread and discovered that the database and instance are both BIN2, and 116230 columns are BIN2, but another 319398 columns are still BIN. Without reverting the database (eek, somehow) back to MSSQL2000 and rerunning instcoll.exe (again, I already did once) or building an alter table query for each one that is out of spec (which according to MSDN won't work on certain cols anyway), how can this be resolved?
for my SID database I have the following column types in count:
SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2 116230
Latin1_General_BIN 29
NULL 58467
Latin1_General_CI_AS_KS_WS 11
SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN 319398
But the databases are all running BIN2 as such:
Server SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2
Master SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2
Model SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2
TempDB SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2
SID SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2
The checkdb procedure came back with no errors:
CHECKDB found 0 allocation errors and 0 consistency errors in database 'PD1'.
DBCC execution completed. If DBCC printed error messages, contact your system administrator.
And the system appears to be functioning correctly, except that the Upgrade Assistant won't let me continue with the mismatched column collation types.
Suggestions? I noticed there was never a resolution posted.
Thanks,
