Hello,
The first “Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation” is related to permissions to the registry keys. Please provide full permissions
on the following registry key:
SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\MSSQLServer
Please note that SQL Server 2008 requires Service Pack 3 (SP3) to make it compatible with Windows 8.1. Please perform
an slipstream installation of SQL Server 2008 + SP3:

Hope this helps.

  • SQL Server 2008 on windows 8

    Hi Experts,
I want to install SQL Server 2008 Enterprise edition 32 bit on Windows 8 64 bit, I am not able to install the SQL, i tried to do in command prompt by using the below syntax but throws and error.
    The arguement
'/Q/ACTION=INSTALL/FEATURES=SQL,AS,RS,IS,TOOLS/INSTALLSHARDWOWDIR/PID=XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXX is formatted incorrectly, The delimiter'=' is missing.
    error code 0x84B40006.
Please suggest on the above issue.
    Thank you all in advance.

    Next, why the 32-bit version?
But most important: You cannot install Enterprise Edition on a desktop operating system. If you look at
Erland Sommarskog, SQL Server MVP, [email protected]
    Erland,
This is not correct you can install enterprise edition on Client operating system but is is not supported by Microsoft. From 2008 onwards ( IIRW) Microsoft started users to allow install unsupported versions of SQL server.

  • Sql server 2008 and Windows 8

    Hi
I published my WPF application using VS 2010 Express edition and trying to install it on Windows 8.  The application runs but when it comes to searching the database that was included in the installation package it gives the error
"This program has compatibility issues Microsoft SQL Server(2008 and 2008 R2)"
The installer when setup was run did download SQL Server so I am not sure why I am getting this error.  Any advice?

    Hello,
Service Pack 3 for SQL Server 2008 is required to make it compatible for Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. For more information,
please read the following Support article:
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2681562?wa=wsignin1.0
You can download SP3 from the following URL:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=27594
If you are installing SQL Server 2008, continue setup despite of the warning and apply SP3 after installing SQL Server 2008.
    Hope this helps.

  • Compatability:  CR 2008, VS 2005 and SQL Server 2008 on WINDOWS 7

Crystal Reports 2008,  Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2008 all play nice together on a VISTA or XP box.  But we cannot get a connection when we switch the OS to WIN 7.   I tried to get a connection via the report designer.  Is this combination of technologies currently supported?
    Thanks.

    Hi, Jeff;
See the [Platforms|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/index?rid=/library/uuid/00225757-ab5c-2c10-c1a8-fb9f9f0f4ac2] document for CR 2008. You need Service Pack 2 to run on Windows 7.
If you already have SP 2, then what happens when you try to make a connection?

  • Sql Server 2008 - problems after incorrect installation of SSIS component

During the addition of SSIS component to an existing installation of Sql Server 2008 the setup has been made using Sql Server 2008 R2 media.
Now SSMS shows the following error during the connection to the instance :
    Method not found: 'Int32.Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Sdk.Sfc.ISfcDomain.GetLogicalVersion()'
I've tried to remove R2 components and to repair the existing 2008 installation.
At the moment 2008 R2 Native client and Setup are still present in the list of Programs and Features.
From previous comments I understand this method is in a Sql Server 2008 R2 assembly, so it seems that SSMS is running as R2 but is using 2008 libraries.
How can I correct this ?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
Be careful uninstalling now SQL Server 2008 R2 components. If you uninstall shared components that are SQL Server 2008
R2 components the whole SQL Server 2008 instance will be unusable. For more information about having SQL Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 installed on the same computer, please read the following article:

    Hi,
I would like to know if we can install a secondary cluster INSTANCE to share existing physical drive that has already been assigned to Default Cluster Instance.
We are having limited resources as such we cannot create new disk drive in order to assign this for new sql instance
    For info:
Existing SQL Instance: SQL Server 2008 (32-bit)
New SQL Instance: SQL Server 2008 (64-bit)
    Thanks,

    Sanjeev
Hi if drives are already part of resource group or used by particular cluster instance you cannot share it. this is as per what i have read from your question. You can explain your query in details if you like

  • SQL Server 2008 is the worst installation experience ever

Sorry but you guys have really messed up with SQL Server 2008 installation.
I've been using SQL server since 6.5, so I would classify as a fan.  We were looking at upgrading from 2005, which I was quite pleased with.
The installation experience is the worst I've ever experienced.  I am a computer expert, and I couldn't figure out how to install it properly.  Why is it that when I downloaded SQL Server Management Studio Express 2008, it seems as though it wants
to install the full database?  Why is it when I was asked if I wanted to install a new version of SQL Server 2008 or use a previous install, when I chose previous install, it said that an instance ID was missing, but there was no way to specify anything
    else?  It drove me crazy.
Why are there so many requirements and restrictions for the installation, when all I want to do is install Management Studio?  It's intolerable and makes me never want to upgrade to 2008.  Why is the process so terrible when Microsoft is supposed
to have the best UE people in the business?
You guys did a really terrible job on this one.

We have not tried to cluster 2012.  We used to cluster; however, we were not prepared to manage the added complications.  The result was that our non-clustered servers had better uptime.  We used to joke about how many 8s we were
getting with our cluster.  (To be fair, it did not help that we had a 7x24 SLA with only 8-5 staff.  When the cluster fails to failover, it can be a long time before it is fixed.  We eventually got the kinks worked out.)
I understand the frustration.  Excellence and stability can be achieved, but product lifecycles can punish those who seek such qualities.  Product changes and shorter support lifecycles produce revenue for MS, so I don't see this getting better.
There will be a new OS, new SQL, and a new set of problems the next time around.
I expect things to get worse until we get pushed into the cloud.  A stable environment in the cloud is profitable for MS and clients.  I do not think this is the case now outside the cloud.  Upgrading applications to remain
on supported products is very costly.  And about the only business benefit of the upgrade is that the product remains on a supported platform and gets security updates.  Sort of sound like that blackmail virus?  I'd rather pay to have a
patch for new features and focus on application upgrades that improve business processes.  Now bug fixes can require a major version change - which will have new bugs.  I'm ranting because of some head pounding
I've done this week due to a hard coded limitation introduced in SQL 2012 by design.  I'll replace the process, but I wonder how long it will work as my SQL related PSH often breaks with a new version of something.  I'll
stop now. Where'd my Prozac go?  Next week is new week, life is good, everything will work,....
PS I actually enjoy the work and think MS products are decent; however, our environment does seem to be more frail and less stable due to MS product changes - even if the products are getting better.  Better is worse - what an odd thought.

    Hi User814822.

B/W did you tried to configure external user store to OES like LDAP??
    Thanks

  • Windows Installer - SQL Server 2008 Express Errors

I am working with an application that was developed for an XP machine.  One of my peers took the old Windows application and using Visual Studio 2010 upgraded the application to work on a Windows 7 machine.  We are creating the installer (.exe
and .msi) files within Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, but we are having different issues on different machines that we try to run the setup.exe file on.
On our company computers with Windows 7, the setup.exe file runs and works properly.
On our customers computer with Windows 7, received the following error: "an error occurred attempting to install SQL Server 2008 Express Service Pack 1."
On non-company/non-customer machines, we tried two Windows 7 machines.  One machine had no issues and everything installed perfectly and the other received this error: "Component SQL Server 2008 Express has failed to install."
User pressed Yes to reboot the computer.
After the reboot, the setup.exe file was run and there were no more errors.  The application was installed properly.
Within the Installer we have four boxes checked under Properties - Prerequisites:
    Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (x86 and x64)
Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile (x86 and x64)
    SQL Server 2008 Express
    Windows Installer 3.1
If anyone can help with why the installer is causing issues on some computers and not on others as well as why the issues by computer are different that would be very helpful!
    Thank you!

Please refer to this article for troubleshooting installation of
    SQL Server Express:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/1146.sql-server-express-troubleshoot-installation.aspx
Check Summary.txt in the <SQLInstallFolder>\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log and see if you need to apply the Hotfix in the
    KB 957453.

    Best regards,

    Hi,
The cause could be an invalid entry in the userSettings section of the Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.LandingPage.Properties.Settings file.
Delete this configuartion file or delete the folder "Microsoft_Corporation" and see how it works.
    Run the command: rd /s /q %localappdata%\Microsoft_Corporation

  • Installation of SQL Server 2008 express edition

I have successfully downloaded MS SQL Server 2008 Express. At the end of down loading I got message "Installation Successful". I may have mis-read the writing - it could be down-loading successful. The files are there in all program folder.
I am not sure if I have done the installation. I do not see any exe file. I cannot use the server.
How can I get to use it? How can I get connected to the Server?
    S.ZAMAN

    Hello,
Verify you have installed SQL Server Express successfully using the following report:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/petersad/archive/2009/11/13/sql-server-2008-discovery-report.aspx
If you did not install it then use the following post:
    http://www.sqlservergenius.com/sql-server-2008-express-windows-server-2003-2008-howto/
Once you finish the installation, you need to enable TCP/IP and Named Pipes protocols to be able to get connected to SQL Server. Use the following article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191294(v=sql.100).aspx
Now download SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) from the following link to be able to connect and manage the SQL Server Express you have installed.
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7593
Use “(local)\SQLEXPRESS” or computername\SQLEXPRESS as name of the server when connecting using
    SSMSE.
    Hope this helps.
