SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 11G

Hi,
I have few scripts which needs to be migrated from microsoft SQL server 2008 to Oracle 11G.
Can some one let me know can this be done by Oracle SQL developer or any other way ?
I am new to SQL server 2008 & havent worked on that.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
in SQL Developer, click on Help - Table of Contents.
Then: SQL Developer: Migrating Third-Party Databases, then SQL Developer User Interface for Migration, then Using the Translation Scratch Editor. Read the description of the Translation Scratch Editor and try it out.

  • Migration from SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 11g

    Hi there,
    I have a quick question, Anyone who have experienced to migration procedures,function from SQL Server 2008 to 11g R2. Is it possible? I migrated tables and views through Oracle heterogenious servinces but I am not sure about the fucntions and procedures.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Warm regards,

    Automated conversions are possible. After these conversions the system will pretty much run. However, and it can be a pretty big HOWEVER, performance could well take a hit - which the uninitiated or SQL Server acolytes will seek to blame on Oracle not being very good. This is not actually the case.
    You could be in for a major review and rewrite. Besides the syntax differences in the procedural languages, there is a huge - like really huge - difference in transaction control, isolation, and read consistency. Basically, keep in mind that Oracle reads do not block writes, writes do not block reads, and there are no dirty reads. Writes only block other writes. Thus, no coding 'tricks' are needed to get around these blockers. Oracle has global temporary tables that are generally used to help out those converting from SQL Server. In actuality, then are mostly not needed as you can almost always do your work in one SQL statement.
    Read the concepts guide from cover to cover, then do it again, then start looking at what you need to do to convert your procedural code.

  • Unable to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE 11G(on 64 bit Linux box)

    We are unable to connect to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE 11G which is on 64 bit Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
    Infrastructure: OBIEE 11.1.1.5 64bit, on 64 bit Red Hat Linux Enterprise Linux 5.6 , MS SQL Server 2008 on 64 bit Microsoft Windows Server
    Issue Description: Unable to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE11G RPD
    Details: We are unable to connect to SQL Server 2008 from OBIEE which is on a 64 bit Linux box. We created the ODBC connection on Linux box to the SQL server. Whenever we try to import metadata it throws an error that says ‘Connection Failed’.
    Here are the steps we followed to setup the ODBC connection on Linux box.
    1) We updated the user.sh file with the LD_LIBRARY_PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH_64 values that point to $ORACLE_HOME/bifoundation/odbc/lib
    This is where we found the driver for SQL server SEmsss23.so.
    2) We updated the odbc.ini file with the entry for SQL server with the connection details
    SI_SQL_Server_DEV = SQL Server
    [SI_SQL_Server_DEV]
    Driver=/u001_OAS/Oracle/Middleware/Oracle_BI1/bifoundation/odbc/lib/SEmsss23.so
    Description=DataDirect 5.1 SQL Server Wire Protocol
    Address=10.230.216.52,54970
    AlternateServers=
    AnsiNPW=Yes
    ConnectionRetryCount=0
    ConnectionRetryDelay=3
    Database=SVBDW_NEW
    LoadBalancing=0
    LogonID=SIDatavalidation
    Password=~~~Password123
    QuoteID=No
    ReportCodePageConversionErrors=0
    3) We updated the IDENTIFIER_QUOTE_CHAR with single quotes instead of double quotes in the DB features of the RPD
    4) We updated the bash_profile file to point the ODBCINI variable to the path where the OBIEE odbc.ini file is present.
    Export ODBCINI=/u001_OAS/Oracle/Middleware/instances/instance1/bifoundation/OracleBIApplication/coreapplication/setup/odbc.ini
    The error in nqsserver.log file says “[nQSError: 16001] ODBC error state: IM002 code: 0 message: [DataDirect][ODBC lib] Data source name not found and no default driver specified.”

    Hi,
    Make sure SQL Configuration Manager make sure the TCP/IP enabled. please try below method
    Method 1
    Re Create a new ODBC & Oracle Bi Server DSN Configuration test it and use it in the connection pools.
    define your ODBC data source in your server where the BI Server is installed. Check your DB connections in your physical layer and make they are defined on your BI Server as well.
    Method 2:
    try using the complete TNS in below format in the datasource name section:
    (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST =DB IP)(PORT = 1521)) ) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = ORCL) ) and provide the credentials.
    Method 3:
    To use the OCI call interface you need to have oracle client DB to be installed so that you can establish a connection using that DB credentials and connect to the remote dB and then import the tables.....this is the rule of thumb.
    hope helps you.
    Thanks

  • Migration from SQL SERVER 2008 to Oracle 10g issues.

    Hi ,
    I'm trying to migrate from SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 10g and I end up with some issues that I wanted to ask some info about it.
    First, I was following a tutorial
    http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/obe/db/hol08/sqldev_migration/mssqlserver/migrate_microsoft_sqlserver_otn.htm
    and and in the last version of Oracle SQL developer I downloaded, I didn't find the Load Database Capture Script Output option.
    My first question is how can I either add this option or is there a new way to load the capture script ?
    Then I use the migration wizard and after following everything, I had the migration complete message from the application.
    When I tried to open my connectionss, it tells me version 11.2 is required. Does that mean that Oracle SQL developper 3 only
    do the migration for oracle 11g? And if I tried the previous versions, it doesn't support SQL server 2008.
    What do I do in this case ?
    Thanks !

    Thank you for your reply.
    After using the wizard and made the offline migration script, in the Migration projects window I made a move data to the oracle connection I previously made and after when I tried to reopen the connection, I couldn't.
    Well I didn't retry it yet to see if I'll have the same behavior but basically this is what I think I did. When I tried to open the connection I made, it says, Oracle 11.2 is required.
    Now, I just generate target from the convert model and it says migration complete but how do I test it and I do I go to oracle and see change ?
    Do I had to create a special user in SQL Server to log to it first ? How do I logon to it ?

    Hi Naveen,
    We would like to migrate our Siebel database from Sql Server 2005 to Oracle 11g RAC. Can you suggest the best way to do that ?You will need much more which suggestions.
    You will need a Siebel professional which has done this type of migration. Migrating the Database is not a task so hard, after migrating your environment should be functional and healthy it is usually the task problematic.
    The hardware can be changed if needed. Can you please suggest the best approach ?We can recommend the minimum recommended, but this documentation already does, you need to do a analysis on your environment and ask a vendor Siebel tell the which is recommended for you and how to find the best "number" for you, in your case is very hard because everything changes.

    Hi,
      You could the free Oracle SQL*Developer to do this.
    There is information and a download link here -
    Oracle SQL Developer</title><meta name="Title" content="Oracle SQL Developer"><meta n…
    and information on using it for migrations here -
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/migration/index-084442.html
    You could use it in 2 ways -
    1. Go through a migration but just pull the stored procedure code from the file created after you generate the SQL from the SQL*Server database
    2. Use the scratch editor accessed from -
    - Tools - Migration - Scratch Editor
    and paste the SQL*Server stored procedure code into the window and it will convert it to Oracle code. The tool is very good but may have problems if you have very complicated procedures that use SQL*Server specific utilities.

  • Database Migration MS Sql Server 2008 to Oracle

    I have downloaded the latest updates for SQL Developer and am attempting to migrate my SQL Server 2008 DB to Oracle 11g. I get the following error when attempting to test my Sql Server connection:
    Status : Failure - Test failed: I/O Error: SSO Failed: Native SSPI library not loaded. Check the java.library.path system property.
    After attempting and following several posts, I have been unsuccessful in getting past this error - I have downloaded and placed in the specified directories the various .dll's suggested....
    Any help is of course appreciated.

    Boy do I look foolish. I told this guy that the owners of the application answer questions here... suerly he would get a reply.
    Such is the problem with "free" software. No one to blame when it doesn't work.

  • SQL Server 2008 to Oracle or MYSQL?

    Hi guys,
    I need some advice/help on DB transfer for a current site I'm working on. I have built a website http://london-school-of-makeup.com which I have installed on an IIS Server which means I am using SQL Server 2008 for the DB. This, I know now was a big mistake as SQL Server is only good for my .net projects, and terrible for my php projects (especially a wordpress website). What I am trying to do is transfer the DB to an Oracle environment, but I don't know whether Oracle is better or MYSQL for a site like this? I have been trying to export the data from SQL Server 2008 which I then want to transfer, but even that is a huge headache. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
      I don't know if there are any direct comparisons of Oracle and MySQL but one thing to consider is licensing. If you use Oracle you will need to pay for a license but there is a free community version of MySQL.
    The free MySQL version is only supported via the MySQL communities and you cannot open SRs with Oracle support as to do that also needs a MySQL support license.

  • How to only migrate data from SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 11?

    According to our requirement, We need to only migrate data from a SQL Server database to an existed
    Oracle database user.
    1) I tried to do it with SQL Developer 3.0.04 Migration Wizard, But find an issue.
    My SQL Server database name is SCDS41P2, and my Oracle database user name is CDS41P2;
    When I used SQL Developer to do offline move data by Migration Wizard, I found all oracle user
    name in movedata files which gotten by run Migration Wizard
    is dbo_SCDS41P2. If the Oracle user name is not the same as my existed Oracle user name,
    the data can't be moved to my existed Oracle user when I run oracle_ctl.bat in command line window.
    So I had to modify the Oracle user name in all movedata files, but it's difficult to modify them because there are many tables in
    databases. So could you please tell me how to get the movedata files which the oracle user name in them is my
    expected Oracle user name?
    2) I also tried to use the 'copy to Oracle' function to copy the SQL Server database tables data
    to the existed Oracle database user. When clicked 'copy to Oracle', I selected 'Include Data' and 'Replace' option
    But I found some tables can't be copied, the error info is as below:
    Table SPSSCMOR_CONTROLTABLE Failed. Message: ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object
    Could you please tell me how to deal with this kind of error?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Thanks for you replying. But the 'copy to oracle' function still can't be work well. I will give some info about the table. I also search 'SPSSCMOR_CONTROLTABLE' in the target schema, and only find one object. So why say 'name is already used by an existing object'? Could you please give me some advice? Thanks!

  • SQL Server 2005 to Oracle 11g

    Hi,
    I am trying to do DB migration from SQL Server to Oracle. I found the below link and I think using that I can migrate the data. The source DB size is 50GB, any idea how long it takes to move the date to the destination db (assuming we are using offline data movement)?
    http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/obe/db/hol08/sqldev_migration/mssqlserver/migrate_microsoft_sqlserver_otn.htm
    I am not a DBA and this is the first time I am trying to do this, basically what considerations do we need to take before doing this DB migration?
    Thanks is advance

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
    Using the DDL scripts I can able to generate the database objects and also imported the data from source to target. But I see one issue, to load 400MB data to a table it is taking 6 hours. I am doing this migration in DEV, the same table size in PROD is 9 GB. Not sure how long it takes to load that much data. You mentioned it takes only 2 hours, am I doing anything wrong here? I am running this from my local machine, and the source .dat file exists on my local machine.
    The following are the contents in the oracle_ctl file (removed the connection information) and while running I am passing 2 parameters to the batch file
    +@echo off+
    set NLS_DATE_FORMAT=Mon dd YYYY HH:mi:ssAM
    REM set NLS_TIMESTAMP_FORMAT=Mon dd YYYY HH:mi:ffAM
    REM set NLS_LANGUAGE=<insert the language of your database here e.g., US7ASCII>
    sqlplus id/pass@server:1521/service < pre_load.sql
    sqlldr %1/%2 control=control\log.ctl log=log\log.log
    sqlplus id/pass@server:1521/service < post_load.sql
    goto EXIT
    +:INPUT_ERROR+
    echo "Usage: oracle_ctl <user> <password> [<nls_date_format>]";
    +:EXIT+
    Please let me know what I am doing wrong here.

    I am an SQL Server newbie but very experienced Oracle Developer.
    Anyone make any helpful suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Jeremy

    Your information is a little bit missleading:
    "where mapper/mapper is a new user I created on the SQL Server DB, mwrep_orcl is the Oracle repositiry database and WSSTCWKS401 my workstation name"
    Please pay attention all parameters specified calling the batch file are SQL Server related parameters. See the batch file for more info:
    echo ----
    echo ---- OMWB_OFFLINE_CAPTURE login_id password database_name server_name
    echo ---- where,
    echo ---- login_id is a login id which has been granted db_datareader
    echo ---- and view definition on database_name
    echo ---- password is the password for the login id
    echo ---- database_name is the name of the database you wish to capture
    echo ---- server_name is the name of the server on which the database resides
    echo ---- For example,
    echo ---- OMWB_OFFLINE_CAPTURE sa sapwd employeeDB DEPT1_SERVER
    echo ----
    So the database_name is the SQL Server database name you want to capture and server_name is the server which contains your SQL Server database.
    Do your settings follow these rules? If not, please correct and retry.
    If your settings are correct, what permissions did you grant to mapper?

  • Check Stored Procedures after Migration from MS SQL Server 2008 to Oracle11

    I successfully migrated my application database (azteca) from MS SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 11g R2. After migration, I found there are few stored procedures are not valid. How do I check these invalid stored procedures and find what is wrong with them by using SQL Developer? Thanks for your help.
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
    You posted quite a bit today, so perhaps you have already worked this out. If not...
    1. View -> Reports -> Data Dictionary Reports -> All Objects -> Invalid Objects [for a specific schema name]
    2. Next, for each invalid stored procedure listed in (1)...
    a. Open in the code editor from the Connections navigator tree
    b. Click on the Compile icon (two gears meshed together) in code editor tool bar.
    c. Look in the Compiler log pane for errors.
    d. Correct the errorsOf course, success in addressing any errors depends on your skill level dealing with Oracle PL/SQL.
    Also, it may be helpful to read over section *3.2 Stored Procedures* in the supplementary migration guide:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35137_01/doc.32/e18462/trig_stored_proc.htm#CHDEIGBC

  • MS SQL Server 2008 Migrating to Oracle 11.2g

    Hi.........
    Can any body help me how to migrate the MS SQL Server 2008 to Oracle 11.2g. Plz do needful ASAP.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Ranjith

    Ranjith,
    You can use the SQL*Developer migration workbench to migrate from SQL*Server to Oracle. It is free to download and use.
    You can download SQL*Developer from here -
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/sql-developer/overview/index.html
    then there is information on migration from non-Oracle systems here -
    Oracle Database Migration Technology
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/migration/index-084442.html
    From here there is a link to specific information on migrating SQL*Server -
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/migration/sqlserver-095136.html
    Please review this information and if you have any further questions or problems it would be better to ask them in this forum -
    Forum: Database and Application Migrations
    Database and Application Migrations
    One thing I would recommend is that unless the SQL*Server database is very small you make an offline migration. This gives you more control over how it is done and to resolve any problems.

    Mike
