SSAS SSRS Report Action on Cell Value w/ Embedded Single Quote Not Executing

I have configured an SSAS 2008 R2 cube SSRS ReportAction. I'm having problems when the member value for a cell has an embedded single quote, e.g. abc's. The action displays on the context menu appropriately, but when I click on the action, nothing happens.
For member values that do not have the single quote, the action works as designed. I've added a calculated ember to escape the embedded single quote by adding another single quote, e.g. abc''s, with no luck. Is there a resolution or workaround for this?

Hi Mdccuber,
According to your description, you create a reporting action in you cube, and it works fine except the members that have embedded single quote, right? In your scenario, it seems that you pass this value to the report as the parameter.
In SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), when pass values to a report, multi-select parameters have to be placed into IN statement and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) will do single-quote wrapping for string values automatically. In this case, the original
value that have embedded single quote will be damaged. So this action not work. You can submit a feedback at
http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/Feedback and hope it is resolved in the next release of service pack or product.

  • Problem with SSAS cube reporting action when using pivot filter with cubevalue function

    Hi everyone,
I have a quite specific problem when I combine cube actions (Reporting Action SSRS) with Excel's cubevalue() function.
The problem is when I use a pivot filter as a parameter for the cubevalue() function. The action item does not show up in the context menue.
The cube action works fine when I do it from a "normal" pivot or if I use the cubevalue() function without the reference to a pivot filter (all the parameters in the function are "hard-coded").
    I use SSAS 2012 and Excel 2010.
    Thanks for yor help.
    Gerhard

    Hi everyone,
I actually figured out a way to solve this problem. I had to use a detour to solve this bug in Excel (at least I think it's a bug).
What I needed to do: I had to make Excel belive that the filter is actuall hard-coded and does not come from a pivot filter. This was only possible by adding a new calculated measure to the cube that gives back the MEMBER_Unique_Name to the current member
passed. This "value" can then be used to go back to the cube and select the cubemember function. Here is a small example.
    This is the cube member:
    CREATE MEMBER CURRENTCUBE.[Measures].[RegCompBranNameKey] AS
    [Company Branch].[Reg - Comp - Bran Name].CurrentMember.Properties("MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME", TYPED),
    VISIBLE = 0 ;
And this is then done in a hidden Excel cell:
    =CUBEMEMBER("Metrics";
     IF(RIGHT(CUBEVALUE("Metrics";<PivotFilter>;"[Measures].[RegCompBranNameKey]");5)="[ALL]";"[ALL]";
      RIGHT(CUBEVALUE("Metrics";<PivotFilter>;"[Measures].[RegCompBranNameKey]");LEN(CUBEVALUE("GlobalMetrics";<PivotFilter>;"[Measures].[RegCompBranNameKey]"))-57)
I had to use the UniqueName property because I have a combined filter. That's also the reason for this truncation and also useing the last part of it. If you just have a straight key you more easily use it.

  • SSRS Report with mutli select values in parameters

    Hi All,
I am creating a SSRS report and displaying the result in tablix. I want to make the report to filter by multi select values from the parameters.
I have 3 parameters. For all the three parameters, I have set "Default  Values" and "Available Values". Also, modified my result dataset to get the values from parameters using "WHERE ID = @Parameter1" (example) and so
    on..
3 Parameters types:   1. Yes or No
    2. Date          3. Values with NULL in the DB
    Problems:
    1. When I am passing the default values "Yes" "No" - it is throwing errors because default values is passed as Yes "AND" No instead of "OR" condition. The value stored in the DB wil have either Yes or No but not both.
    2. When I am querying the date values, it is a DateTime field in the DB. But I have queried like SELECT CONVERT(DATE, EXE_DATE) AS DATE FROM table which is giving only date in SQL but in SSRS displaying date with time.
    3. When I pull the list of values for third Parameter from SQL, it has some NULL values. When I try to use it in SSRS, it is not displaying the NULL value as select option in the list of values
Any suggestions for the above three problems for SSRS with multi select values as filter will be helpful.
    Maruthu | My Blog

    Hi Maruthi,
    Regarding the three things:
1.) I believe your first parameter is mutliselect , please convert it to single select.
    Steps:
a.) Select the parameter, right click and go to parameter properties
b.) Under General Tab in DataType section remove the checkbox for Allow Multiple Value.
2.) Instead of returning as the date please return string. For example :
    SELECT CONVERT(VARCHAR, GETDATE(),101)
Here is the list of conversion : http://www.sqlusa.com/bestpractices/datetimeconversion/
3.) As such there is no concept of null in SSRS. (Its a relational concept) . We do have nothing , which means empty. In Order to use null please select the Allow null option in the DataType section of the Parameter, This will add an checkbox for null in
the report preview. Its developer job to handle the null values in there query.

  • SSRS report with tabular model – MDX query CoalesceEmpty function does not return the provided string value

    Hello everyone,
I created following calculated member in MDX query. I am using it in one of the report parameter in dataset (single select dropdown list as report parameter).
    WITH MEMBER [Measures].[ParameterCaption] AS
    CoalesceEmpty([Customer].[National Account Code].CURRENTMEMBER.MEMBER_CAPTION,'None')
I would like to display 'None' text at the top of the dropdown list values. So that when user selects 'None' then this parameter will not considered in MDX query else the selected National Account Code will be considered to filter report data. But,
the above return blank/empty value for  [Customer].[National Account Code].&  member though I specified 'None' as text in CoalesceEmpty function. Any advice would be appreciated.

  • How to design SSRS report to filter multi-value parameter?

I developed an RDL which takes a multivalue parameter and I want to set a visibility expression or filter based on this parameter. This parameter uses an "All" value equal to '660E4583-7F29-4D37-8038-5096AE6A1A7F'.
I want to make the main tablix visible if this parameter is set to this uniqueidentifier and invisible otherwise. How can I achieve this either in the tsql dataset or on the report side? I have tried numerous workarounds, but none have worked so far! I've tried
    different expressions and datatypes.
Before I tried If/Else statements in the tsql dataset, but most recently I instead added flags to the tsql dataset for each condition and am trying to make this tablix only include the records with the flag matching the parameters chosen. But even this is not
    working for me.
    Here is sample data:
    create table #dummydata
    parameter varchar(max),
    b varchar(max)
    insert #dummydata values('660E4583-7F29-4D37-8038-5096AE6A1A7F','record 1'),('660E4583-7F29-4D37-8038-5096AE6A1vcd','record 2'),('660E4583-7F29-4D37-8038-5096AE6A1v52','record 3')
    select * from #dummydata
And my filter expression in the RDL for this tablix is:
    =iif(Parameters!Modifier.Value(0)="660E4583-7F29-4D37-8038-5096AE6A1A7F",1,0)
With datatype = integer and value = 1 However, this tablix is invisible with the above even when I choose "All" for the parameter value = default value. How can I make this tablix visible?
    Ryan D

    Hi Ryan D,
After testing the scenario in my local environment, everything goes well. As per my understanding, I think this issue can be caused by the Available values in the Modifier parameter. Could you tell us the Available values of Modifier parameter in your scenario?
The following scenario in my test is for your reference:
I create a dataset with the sample data you posted.
Add a multi-value parameter named Modifier in the report.
Specify the following values in the Available Values of the parameter (please note that the value “All” should be located in the first place, because we use Parameters!Modifier.Value(0) in the filter):
    Label: All                 Value: ="660E4583-7F29-4D37-8038-5096AE6A1A7F"
    Label: A                   Value: ="1"
    Label: B                   Value: ="2"
    Label: C                   Value: ="3"
Drag a table to the design surface, insert parameter and b fields in the table.
Use the same expression as you said to add a filter in the tablix.
We can refer to the following screenshot:
If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.

  • Report parameter field value has a single quote. need to escape before pass

Report has a parameter whose value might have a single quote in it. If I pass that value directly into the SQL Command... like
    where ... user_name = {?parm_user_name}...
    which would translate to
    user_name='O'Donnel Honda'
I am getting an error... so would like to convert this parameter value into 'O''Donnel Honda' before passing into the query.
I created a formula called parse_user_name with following:
    Replace ({?parm_user_name}, "'", "''")
And used in the query like
    where ... user_name = {@parse_user_name}...
I am getting an error like invalid SQL92 character...

I think you should use the condition like this
    where ... user_name = '{?parm_user_name}'
keep the parameter in single quote at the command level itself.
Now use the same formula like
    replace({?Parameter},"'","''")
This works only if the parameter is a single value parameter but not multi value parameter.

  • Is there a way to insert a string even if the value has a single quote in it?

    Hi,
I have a varchar string like
    Name: D'souza
I am getting an error when i am inserting  like this.
    insert into table (D'souza)
Is there any way to allow inserting the exact value even if it has single quotes attached to it like set define off in oracle ?

    insert into table values('D''souza')
    insert into table values('D'''+'souza')
    Try also this one

  • How can i pass multiple values by a single variable to EXECUTE IMMEDIATE

    Hi All,
I want to pass multiple values for where condition for execute immediate. Something Like this:-
    bold
    Declare
    v_cond varchar(1000);
    Begin
    v_cond := '''INR','USD'''; --(OPTION 1)
    v_cond := 'INR,USD'; --(OPTION 2)
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'Delete from table where colm in (:v_cond)' using v_cond;
    END;
    bold
I am using this into a procedure
Now option 1 gives an error ie a syntax error (; expected or something like that)(I am sorry, i can't tell the exact error here as i am not in the office right now)
and option 2 makes the procedure execute but obviously doesn't delete the records, as it takes the whole as one.

  • SSRS Column Chart Design Returning values in a format different from SSRS -SSAS Query Designer

    Hi All,
I have an SSAS cube Measure Group with Multiple Measures that I am attempting to return on one SSRS report and reflect the
values using a ssrs column chart.
    My Measure Group (Patients).
    Measures:
    PatientsOnMeds
    PatientOnRelapse
    PatientsCounseld
    TotalNumberOfPatientsRegisterd
    NewlyRegisteredPatients
    HealthPersonelTrainef
    Demension:
    Time (Year) :filtered to 2012 & 2013
In my SSRS query designer I have filtered the above Measures with Time Dimesion year 2012 & 2013
and the data is returned as :
    Year |PatientsOnMeds|PatientOnRelapse|TotalNumberOfPatientsRegisterd|NewlyRegisteredPatients|
    2012 | 700          | 526            |  25                          | 456
    2013 | 245          | 245            |  15                          | 70
Now the problem is when I return this data on the column Chart it's in messed up mesh
    On the chart Data:
    -Values :Measures
    -Series Group: Dimension
The report values are returned in multiple columns for each value segmented by year i.e year 2012,Year 2013.
I want a single column for each Measure (value) for each single year and The chart axis to reflect the measures(values)
instead of grouping values according to series group.
    instead the legend returns:
    -Year A -PatientsOnMeds
    -Year A -PatientOnRelapse
    -Year B -PatientsOnMeds
    -Year B -PatientOnRelapse
I would like the legend to reflect on -Year A,Year B in color code that will be highlighted in the column values.
Please point me in the right course if you can.Your insights are highly appreciated.Thank you in advance.

    Hi Charlie,
Thank you for your kind response.
In actual I want the legend to show:
    -2012
    -2013
And the bottom axis to show:
    PatientsOnMeds
    PatientOnRelapse
    PatientsCounseld
    TotalNumberOfPatientsRegisterd
    NewlyRegisteredPatients
    HealthPersonelTrained
Indicating in color code for Year 2012 and Year 2013.
This the challenge that I am struggling with.I hope you understand my scenario.
    It aint easy.

  • Ranking for Row grouping in SSRS report

    Hi,
I want to display data in following format in ssrs report.
    Rank Group  Value
    1        G1      10
    2        G1      20
    3        G1      30
    4        G1      40

    2        G2      54
    3        G2      64
I tried row count and other ranking functions but it did not working.
    Please help.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
You can Try Rank  , Dense Rank and Row Number Based on Your Requirements.
Because these three having Different functionality
Row number will returns unique values .
Rank is similar to Row number , except equal rows are ranked same
Dense Rank similar to Rank but it will not give any gapes.
select a.[group],a.value,RANK() over (partition by [Group] order by value)Rank1 from [msdn.rank] a
select a.[group],a.value,Dense_rank() over (partition by [Group] order by value)Rank1 from [msdn.rank] a
select a.[group],a.value,Row_number() over (partition by [Group] order by value)Rank1 from [msdn.rank] a

  • SSRS report export to excel

    Hi All,
    I have one developed SSRS report which is a matrix report (having customer name in column area and customer code in row area);
and it is working ok no issue here.
Now I want to do something like :
Is it possible while exporting to excel, I can interchange rows data to columns data and columns data to rows data ? (so that customer name comes in row area; and customer code comes in column area)
Hope question is straight forward and clear.
    Regards

    Hi ,
I have tried to do dynamic grouping based on the Format of rendering, however in dynamic grouping not allowed to use the Global Built-In Fields, Variables, ReportItems collections.
Finally only way left for us to use our classical trick to set the visibility on and off.
This trick can be applied by creating two different Matrix and show one matrix depending on Format rendering.
My trick is to create two groups within the matrix and hide and show one group based on format rendering.
I have created detailed level of post in below link.

  • First Cell value in the first row of the structure not getting displayed

    Hi Friends,
We've got one structure at rows level, there as per our requirement i've taken around 12 "New Selections", that's ok i'm getting everthing fine, but whatever the new selection i put on the top of that structure in that, the First Cell Value for the first column not getting displayed...
I'm really wondering, this is the first time that i'm facing this kind of problem... what might be the reason & what is the solution for that...
    just awaiting for your inputs...
    Regards,
    Balaji Reddy K.

There is no declarative way to do this as the table rows are stamped. This means there is no way to can access a value like (row+1).attributename
So there is some coding needed. Check http://lucbors.blogspot.de/2012/02/adf-11g-fancy-master-detail-or-how-to.html and http://lucbors.blogspot.de/2012/02/adf-11g-even-fancier-multi-master-multi.html which might help you to implement your case.

  • How to consume the Calendar Exception details from Project Server 2013 to an SSRS report using PSI ?

    Hello,
Can anyone guide me how to access the calendar exception details from Project Server using PSI?
I need to extract calendar details of enterprise resources , like exception name, exception type, exception start date and exception end date into my SSRS report hosted in SharePoint 2013 and 2010.
I would be helpful if I can get a sample of this. I have read through many PSI documents in fact still going through ,what  PSI does and doesn't ,  PSI methods etc. from Project Server SDK and MSDN . Moreover, I
am a beginner in .NET programming. I am confused and have lots of questions in my mind, like which PSI service should be used in my report(is it  just Calendar.svc), can we pull the details as XML type data source my SSRS report ,are
there any other configuration settings apart from " setting up an event handler by installing an event handler assembly on each Project Server computer in the SharePoint farm, and then configuring the event handler
for the Project Web App instance by using the Project Server Settings page in the General Application Settings of SharePoint Central Administration" (as per prerequisites for PSI in SDK) , how can I implement authentication settings
-(when user with proper SharePoint permission
can accesses the SSRS report  )
Kindly bear with me if my questions are not appropriate .
Please do guide me, and .
    Thanks in Advance!!

    Hi Brendan,
Project server reporting database doesn't contain the calendar info. The only supported way to use the PSI to read the calendar info from Published database.

  • Data model: single quote in default parameter value

    Hello,
when I assign a default value to a parameter in my Data model, which includes a single quote (i.e. "It's a default value"), then the single quote is escaped with a backslash (i.e. "It\'s a default value") when I open the report associated with the data model. How can I get rid of the escape character when opening a report?
    Regards,
    Jure

    Hi Yogini,
    Thanks for your reply.
When the customer name is selected, discoverer reports automatically enclose the customer names in single quotes. like 'ABC LTD', 'ABC's INC',
I know how to change this single quote format. Also we don't want user to change the parameter selection criteria once selected.
Also related to double quotes isn't it doubles are treated as column names in the SQL query and can not be used for any other purpose.
Apologies, I haven't tried this but I think it will not work. Have you tried this with discoverer viewer.
As mentioned intrusting things is when a customer name with single quote is selected in discoverer Plus it automatically formats the filter criteria to look like ['ABC LTD', 'ABC''s INC'] but this thing doesn't happen in viewer.
I think this is a bug in discoverer viewer and think there must be some patch available to correct this problem.
Sorry, don't have a solution yet but will certainly update the thread once I get the solution.
Also please keep looking for a solution and let me know as well.
    Thanks a lot in advance.

  • Single Quote in Parameter values...!

    Hi there,
I am using oracle oracle disco. 10g
In my report there are 2 parameters. First being the customer name and another being the transaction reference. Transaction reference parameter is based on the customer name(s) selected.
The customer data contains a single quote [e.g. ABC's]. Thus, when the user selects the customer name [with a single quote] and tries to select the transaction reference - discoverer viewer returns an error message - 'Invalid Value'
This does not happens in discoverer plus.
Imp: We can not change the data - otherwise I would have remove the single quote from the customer name as part of my query.
    any ideas..!
Any help would be really appreciated.
