SSDT 2010 vs SSDT 2012: Upgrade benefits?
Hello,
Our organisation is upgrading SQL 2008R2 to SQL 2012. For SSIS development, we have a choice of upgrading to either
Visual Studio 2010 (and SSDT 2010), or
Visual Studio 2012 (and SSDT 2012)
Because of the black and white UI in VS2012 and SSDT 2012 is disliked by the ETL developers, we are inclined to stick to VS2010 and SSDT 2010.
By doing this, are we missing any important features? In other words, is it worth upgrading to VS2012/SSDT2012?
Thanks
Not sure what the better is, but vs2012 is probably indeed faster, more stable, etc. etc. and there is also a
blue color theme available:
And you can run time side by side on the same machine...

Hello
We did an in-place upgrade on a few of our DPM 2010 servers to DPM 2012 and it went well. In the Reporting section, we have configured tape management reports on a weekly basis. The issue is that the information on 'overdue tapes' is not mentioned in the
report which is now being sent. This issue persists on all the DPM servers that we upgraded. Any suggestion?

Connecting to existing TFS 2012 repository using SSDT 2012
I am trying to connect to an existing TFS 2012 repository using SSDT 2012 (Visual Studio 2010 Shell). I already have Visual Studio 2013 Professional Edition installed, but I am still not seeing any options other than "None" for the Plug-In Selection
dropdown in the Source Control part of the options menu.
Am I missing something in the SSDT documentation that explains how to do this?I have attached the results of pressing the "Copy Info" button in the about section when I open SQL Server Data Tools at the bottom of this response.
I was able to fix the issue by installing Visual Studio 2010 Team Explorer.

Strange issues developing reports in SSDT 2012
Hi, I am running into a weird situation since we did an upgrade from BIDS 2008 R2 environment to SSDT 2012. Everything that used to work fine in BIDS 2008 R2 does not seem to work in SSDT 2012. For instance, set default value in parameter 2 depending on
parameter 1 or use of global temporary tables I get "Invalid object name '##temp'." error. We are using SQL Server 2008 R2 database.
Thanks in advance.................
IoneHi ione721,
According to your description, you query the tamp table in the dataset, then you have specified the default value for a parameter. When you upgrade the BIDS 2008 R2 to SSDT 2012, it throws the “Invalid object name '##temp'.” error when running the report.
In SQL Server, global temporary tables are visible to any user after they are created, and they are deleted when all users referencing the table disconnect from the instance of SQL Server. If a temporary table is created with a named constraint and the temporary
table is created within the scope of a user-defined transaction, only one user at a time can execute the statement that creates the temp table. So in your scenario, you could query the non-temporary tables or include the temporary table create statement in
the dataset.
If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

Finding out the dll reference behind an SSIS Toolbox Item in SSDT 2012
This might be a stupid question but I can't seem to figure out how to see what dll an SSIS toolbox item in SSDT 2012 is referencing. Is there someway to see this information? When I go to the Choose Toolbox Item Menu I don't see anything about SSIS so I'm
assuming the option is strictly for the non-SSIS Toolbox. The reason i'm trying to figure this out is we have some add-ins on the computer I got for work and I want to know if these are new, native SSIS toolbox items or if they are by virtue of the add ins
that were purchased.
Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.Hi TryingtoFigureOutSomething,
From SQL Server 2012, it will automatically detect new custom components, and add them to the toolbox. There are no SSIS Data Flow Items pane and SSIS Control Flow pane in the Choose Toolbox Items dialog box. If SSDT is already open when you install the
some adapters, right click on the Toolbox and select the Refresh option. The new components will be located in the SSIS Toolbox pone.
If we want to find the component dlls location, please go to the place: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\DTS\PipelineComponents or C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\120\DTS\PipelineComponents.
If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Upgrading Exchange 2003 to Exch 2010 on a 2012 server in a 2003 Domain
I'm currently running Exch 2003 and my functional level is 2003. I want to upgrade my Exch server to 2010 utilizing a 2012 server I've joined to my 2003 domain. Is this possible?
And you are installing on Server 2012, not server 2012 R2?
The only version of Exchange that is supported for install onto Windows Server 2012
R2 Is Exchange 2013 SP1.

Installation of Exchange 2010 in Windows 2012 Server
Hi all,
We are planning to upgrade our current Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010, Need some help on installation and Support of Exchange 2010 in Windows 2012 Server, as per the
https://technet.microsoft.com/library/ff728623(v=exchg.150).aspx Exchange 2010 with sp3 is supported in Windows 2012 but I am unable to find the installer of Ex 2010 with sp3
in web even in MSDN. There is only Ex 2010 with Sp1 available. I know that after installing ex2010 with sp1 version, I can install sp3 later but I found one link
http://www.petenetlive.com/KB/Article/0000785.htm where it is mentioned that insllation can be done only after doing the registry settings.
So is any one who has installed Ex 2010 in Windows 2012 Server and faced this issue and any solution.
Thanks
Mukesh
Mukesh BishtYou can easily install Exchange 2010 (SP3) on Windows Server 2012. If you are working with previous SP version’s you can easily upgrade after installing server. And registry settings
are used to fix an error which may occur during migration, so it is not mandatory to correct registry settings each time during migration.
You can find detailed information about installing Exchange 2010 (SP3) on Windows Server 2012 at this blog :http://oxfordsbsguy.com/2013/03/24/how-to-install-exchange-2010-sp3-on-windows-server-2012/ -

Workflow stuck in starting state after applying SharePoint 2010 CU December 2012
I have custom visual studio workflow which are associated with Custom content type. workflow gets triggered automatically when a file is uploaded to SharePoint. Everything was working fine till when i apply the following CU
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/joerg_sinemus/archive/2012/12/27/sharepoint-2010-and-december-2012-cu.aspx
After applying this my workflow get stuck in "Starting" state.
No error were logged in 14 hive logs.
Thanks in Advance! It took me a while but I came up with a work around. There is a PowerShell script below that can be used to trigger the workflow. Hopefully this will hold all of us over until the official fix arrives.
First remove the auto start on change or new from the affected workflow
Edit the script below to match your environment
Add the script to Windows task scheduler with the PowerShell.exe in the command line
This assumes PowerShell.exe is in the path
Then add the full path and script name in the add arguements text box
Script:
#The purpose of this script is to start the SPD workflow with the windows task scheduler for a trigger
#This should avoid the check in-out issue caused by the December 2012 SP CU patch
#This needs to be run on an account with membership in the farm administration group for SharePoint and Shell in SQL
#You can use a find and replace to replace the server and other names with your actual names
#There are no status messages being used since this will be a scheduled task in the Windows task scheduler
#Add SharePoint modules and create variable space
add-pssnapin microsoft.sharepoint.powershell
start-spassignment -global
#Open the web site, list and the workflow
$site=get-spsite %site url%"
$web=get-spweb %Web url%
#Open the %affected% library or list and workflow association
$%affected%=$web.getlist("%affected%")
$manager=$site.workflowmanager
$culture=[system.globalization.cultureinfo]::currentculture
$wfname="%affected workflow name"
$association=$%affected%.workflowassociations.getassociationbyname($wfname,$culture)
$data=$association.associationdata
$wfrunoption=[microsoft.sharepoint.workflow.spworkflowrunoptions]::synchronous
#Start workflow
foreach ($item in $%affected%.items) {
$site.workflowmanager.startworkflow($item,$association,$data,$wfrunoption)

SharePoint Workspace 2010 still installed after upgrade to Office 2013
I'm working on a deployment of Office 2013 in a corporate environment. Using the OCT, I've customized a package which is working well on machines that don't have previous version of Office installed. However, many of the existing machines currently
have Office 2010. After executing the Office 2013 package, we're noticing that while the upgrade works, SharePoint Workspace 2010 and the Office 2010 Tools still exist in the Start -> Programs menu. I also see Office 2010 in Add/Remove programs
(along with the new Office 2013). The OCT is specifically set to uninstall previous editions of Office during the upgrade (which is the default behavior).
I'll seen a couple of other posts like this on the forum, but unfortunately no answers. How can I *completely* uninstall Office 2010 (including SharePoint Workspace 2010 and the Office 2010 tools) during the upgrade to Office 2013? This
corporation doesn't need SharePoint Workspace 2010; my guess is that it was included by default with the Office 2010 package that they rolled out in the past.
Thanks!Hi,
By default, the uninstall option in Office Customization Tool (OCT) will not remove SharePoint Workspace 2010 as SharePoint Workspace is no longer include in Office 2013.
Try to create a separate Office 2010 .msp file, set Microsoft SharePoint Workspace and Office Tools to "Not Available" and deploy it
prior to the installation of Office 2013.
Or you can do an Uninstall upgrade. Basically, use the /uninstall [ProductID] command-line option to uninstall Office 2010 from the user's computer first and then after that is finished, install Office 2013.
Here is a great example of how to perform an uninstall-upgrade for enterprise deployments :
http://blogs.technet.com/b/odsupport/archive/2011/04/06/how-to-perform-an-uninstall-upgrade-to-office-2010.aspx (Note, the steps are wrriten for Office 2010, but it holds good for Office 2013.)

Under Snow Leopard I used a WD My World NAS to back up my Mac Pro (Mid 2010). When I upgraded to Lion I am unable to access the backup because the NAS does not yet support AFP. I have now bought a Time Capsule and want to transfer the old backup onto it.
How can I recover the NAS back up to put on my new Time Machine.
Talking to Apple Support Adviser was a waste of time on case number 239647273
Any thoughts or pointers?Keep the old OS around and just kick the tires and test new OS. Apple has a history and habit of breaking support in things like this.
You can use TimeMachine as one level of backup, and even there there were changes with Lion, I would always recommend foremost backup clones of every volume. And clone (SuperDuper etc) can be stored on something like HP NAS Media Server which also was supporting TimeMachine, iTunes - until Apple made that harder and more their own proprietary format.

Cloning as a Backup Strategy
Rather than "upgrade" I would clone the system, and do a clean install, then allow Setup Assistant to import your files.

Help with installing sql server 2012 upgrade advisor
Hello there,
I have two questions here:
1. My sql server 2005 is on Window Server 2003/SP2. Does this mean I cannot install sql server 2012 upgrade advisor on it? This page (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144256.aspx)
cites that the supported OS are "Windows Vista SP1, or SP2, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2."
2. I tried to install the upgrade advisor on my local machine (windows 7, 64-bit). Even after I installed "Microsoft SQL Server Transact-SQL ScriptDom ", I still got the error message "Setup is missing prerequisites: - Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Transact-SQL
ScriptDom, which is not installed by Updgrade Advisor Setup........" Why is that?
Thank you for your help in advance!Hello,
Have you installed .NET Framework 4.0 also?
Make sure you installed Transact-SQL ScriptDom from the following link:
