SSI and CSS Help

I'm really hoping someone can help with this.
I have a couple of SSI's on a site I'm developing. They are
text only .html files that have links on them to other pages where
you can get more info.
My problem is that the page properties for my index.php page
override the CSS that I've created for the SSI's. I want the SSI
text to have it's own look, separate from what the look of the
index.php page is. Is this an easy fix or more major development.
I'm pretty new at all of this so talk to me like a child.

Put the CSS for the includes into the parent files. The
include files
should contain NO CSS.

Servlet and CSS help!!

Hi everyone!
This may be the simpliest thing to most of you but I'm just wondering if anyone can give me a little help on how i can call and use a CSS in a servlet...
Here's what i tried:

I have also tried putting the .css files inside different directories
Web\WEB-INF\classes\someCSS.css
or
Web\WEB-INF\someCSS.css
or even

I really don't know what's wrong, I did try searching through the forums but it's not leading me anywhere, one suggested to use request.getContextPath() + \"/myStyle.css\" but i tried a couple of different ways to implement it(having it by itself, having it inside the out.println("") things...) but it just gives errors to that line..... if i'm doing it in a completely wrong way can anyone point me in the right direction??
Anyone who can help would be greatly appreciated :)

I just put the CSS file in the web application directory (this one: Web\someCSS.css) and my HTML simply says <link ... href="someCSS.css">. Works just fine. Of course if your servlet isn't in a web application but has a customized mapping, then I have no idea.

SSIs and CSS

With server side includes, should I include any css for the
SSI with the ssi file or should I attach it to the main page? I am
guessing that I should attach it to my ssi file, but I just wanted
to get some opinions.

css or external css links belong in the head section of the
main document,
not in the included file.
You can use a "design time stylesheet" so the styles are
available when
working on the include file.

You will not be able to access/modify the css code or the rest of the form html code. If you like to view the source of of a HTML page, please use your browser 'view source code' functionality.

SWF with xml and css to flv format..need help

I have slideshow that is your typical stand alone .swf with accompanying .xml and .css configuration files along with a folder for the images. I don't have the .fla
I need to flatten this or merge it all together to create an flv. Is this possible and if so how do I do this?
Because this is a client I can't just re-create another slide show..it needs to be exactly the same. For me to redo it entirely in fla would be so very time consuming as the slides have 2-3 different effects each and to get the timing exactly right would be near impossible.
I hope someone has a magical solution for me.

Actually Rob, right after posting I came across a post mentioning screen
recorders and tried 5 of them. However, I am either not using the right
settings or the progs I tried weren't good enough cause all of them have
some freeze and jump during recording and the vids don't come out smooth. I
think this may be because although they allow you to set frames per seconds
for recording, they all vary that setting during the actual recording. I can
see the frames per second going from 18 to 12. I am not really experienced
in video.
Here's the list of those I tried: CamStudio, Free screen recorder, BB
Flashback2 express, BSR screen recorder 4 and ZealSoft.
If you happen to know of a really good one or what the right settings might
be I'd be glad to hear it.
By the way, so far, you seem to be the only one who got my question
right..all other replies I got from varying forums tell me to google swf
converters.

SSI reading CSS but not applying it fully

Hi All,
I have just discovered SSI, so please bare (sp) with me..
I have a server side include (SSI) that references a CSS file and it seems to be working 90%, meaning the final file that calls the include does display the content as I expected when viewed on the server, except that many of my fonts and stuff aren't being displayed correctly.
It appears that the general layout of the site, along with various images used for navigation, and even jquery and spry menus etc seem to be working well (all of which are referenced to within the SSI and or the CSS that the SSI references), BUT my paragraph text and headers are all displaying in huge fonts and in wrong font-families etc...??
Does anyone have any clue why this might be?

Note: if you navigate elsewhere in the site (none of the other pages use SSI's) and compare, you'll see that the page linked to above (which does use the SSI's) is correctly using the CSS that is referenced in the SSI for the most part, but it's the body text and headers that are unusually large and incorrect font...?

Why do we need SSIS and star schema of Data Warehouse?

If SSAS in MOLAP mode stores data, what is the application of SSIS and why do we need a Data Warehouse and the ETL process of SSIS?
I have a SQL Server OLTP database. I am using SSIS to transfer my SQL Server data from OLTP database to a Data Warehouse database that contains fact and dimension tables.
After that I want to create cubes using SSAS form Data Warehouse data.
I know that MOLAP stores data. Do I need any Data warehouse with Fact and Dimension tables?
Is not it better to avoid creating Data warehouse and create cubes directly from OLTP database?

Another thing to note is data stored in transactional system may not always be in end user consumable format for ex. we may use bit fields/flags to represent some details in OLTP as storage required ius minimum but presenting them as is would not make any
sense to user as they would not know what each bit value represents. In such cases we apply some transformations and convert data into useful information for users to understand. This is also in the warehouse so that information in warehouse can directly be
used for reporting. Also in many cases the report will merge data from multiple source systems so merging it on the fly in report would be tedious and would have hit on report server. In comparison bringing them onto common layer (warehouse) and prebuilding
aggregates would be benefitial for the report performance.
I think (not sure) we join tables in SSAS queries and calculate aggregations in it.
I think SSAS stores these values and joined tables and we do not need to evaluates those values again and this behavior is like a Data Warehouse.
Is not it?
So if I do not need historical data, Can I avoid creating Data Warehouse?
On the backend SSAS uses queries only to extract the data
B/w I was not explaining on SSAS. I was explaining on what happens inside datawarehouse which is a relational database by itself. SSAS is used to built cube (OLAP structures) on top of datawarehouse. star schema is easier for defining relationships
and buidling aggregations inside SSAS as its simple and requires minimal lookups to be performed. Also data would be held at lowest granularity level which can easily be aggregated to required levels inside OLAP cubes. Cube processing is very resource
intensive and using OLTP system would really have a huge impact on processing performance as its nnot denormalized and also doing tranformation etc on the fly adds up to complexity. Precreating a layer (data warehouse) having data in required format would
make cube processing easier and simpler as it has to just cross join tables and aggregate data based on relationships defined and level needed inside the cube.

How to include external javascript and css resources to a jsf?

I need to include external css and javascript files to my jsf page. Using the code below does not work because all the styles on the css page are ignored and the functions within the js files are not executed.

I googled about my problem and found this piece of code for importing styles for an external css.

Used the relative urls in my first post as well as these, and both were not working.

This is my directory structure. Index.jsf is the file that references the external js and css files.

Either way I still can't reference the files that I need. Calling a javascript function results in an object expected error, and the styles are ignored.
If I include the js file directly in the jsf then I can get it to work. I don't want to do this because I have created a handful of seperate js files, and do not want to include all of them in one page. I am using myfaces and tomahawk if that helps.

Upgrade from 2.2.1 to 3.1.2: Breaks JS and CSS?

Upgraded from 2.2.1 to 3.1.2. The upgrade went fine but most JS and CSS seems to be broken.
Examples
1. Javascript functions not defined: redirect, html_ShowElement

My page templates are mostly unchanged, i.e. they have stuff like

Version 3.1.2 seems to have changed stuff around. I tried creating symbolic links from htmldb_html_elements.js -> apex_3_1.js and htmldb_get.js -> apex_get_3_1.js and this got me past the Undefined errors but now I get 'apex is not defined'.
Is there a quick way to upgrade all the applications to the new way of doing things? I am not looking forward to modifying all my page templates!

Sorry, my fault, my database got refreshed from one containing Apex v 2.2.1 without my knowledge and the OHS images folder was still pointing to the that from the 3.1.2 distribution. This was causing the problem. When I upgraded Apex to v3.1.2 again, everything is back to normal.
The #HEAD# substitution string in my page templates automatically pulls in the appropriate JS/CSS libraries

HTML layout and CSS handling in CQ5

OK...so this may sound like a newbie question...because it is. Kinda.
I'm new to CQ5 but am an experienced web developer. CQ5 doesn't appear to provide tools to layout of web pages (html tags, divs, css styling, ...). I'm comfortable doing this by hand, but that seems rather old school in the days of Dreamweaver and such.
What layout/design tools do you recommend for creating HTML and CSS pages for use in CQ5? I have wireframes in-hand and ready to translate to HTML.

None of the enterprise content management systems that I've used, including CQ, provide WYSIWYG tools for building the layouts/templates of the site.
I always build complete static versions of the designs/wireframes by hand entirely outside of CQ. I prefer Textmate, but of course you can use whatever visual tool you prefer. After the static HTML passes muster it then needs to be integrated, by hand, into CQ in the form of page and content components. This is generally straightforward (depending on the design).
CQ 5.5 does give you the Site Importer to help bring an existing page (or set of pages) into CQ which it then breaks up into the beginnings of a project, but in reality the developer will still need to break that up even further anyway. Applying this integration by hand from the ground up will likely give you better control and awareness of what's going on in your project. Letting to much "magic" happen behind a slick wizard or WYSIWYG won't help you when something (inevitably) needs debugging and dissection.
Having said all this, since the Adobe acquisition of CQ, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some kind of Dreamweaver plugin in the works for connecting to CQ!

Want to know any addon or menu tool in Dreamweaver to validate HTML and CSS error.
Because every time i have to check in w3c validation. If DW having in this options it wouldbe great to develop website with out error.

I find it a bit more comfortable though to use teh W3 Validator and I always access that with the Firefox Browser and the Web Developer plug-in. Another good plug in for FF is Firebug.

Newsletter creation and CSS export in Adobe Fireworks

I am a new to adobe fireworks and am currently in the trial mode of my download.
I was advised that Adobe FIreworks CS6 is the ideal program to create graphics and text to build a newsletter for my company.
Not knowing much about the program, I was able to add graphics, text and hotspots on specific images and text with an html link for customers to be able to click to sign up for the newsletter via our website.
The million dollar question I have is how in the world do I export this document and paste it into the "body" of an email to send to 5k contacts?
I do not want an attachment, I want the body fo the email to be html or css coded, but I know nothing about either of the two or how to do it.
I did find one video that walked me thru the export css process, but none of my images were shown and 90% of the text was missing.
I believe I need to understand "layers" to get this to work properly but could really use some help!
I am dangerously close to missing out on advertising to all 5k contacts before the holiday. Please help!!
BTW - the reason for doing this instead of using standard mailchimp or constant contact is because I purchased my email list and those are forbidden in both constant contact and mailchimp hence why i need to create my own opt-in newsletter to get people to opt-in via my website.

Seriously, do not use Fireworks to generate the html for your webpage. It is graphics program with *some* html capabilites, but I would never use it for a live site. It is always best to create the layout in Fireworks, slice it up as for use as individual images, or uses 'pieces' for background images and write the markup (html + css) in Dreamweaver or a HTML editor of your choice.
This tutorial may help you make the transition. Naturally it helps to have at least a basic knowledge of html and css before working with Dreamweaver, it will make using DW so much easier.
