SSIS 2012 continuous integration using msbuild

Hi,
I have an SSIS 2012 project file *.dtproj. I want to create .ispac file from a program for continuous integration. I saw posts saying we cannot do it using msbuild. What are the other options? Has anyone used ssismsbuild (sqlsrvintegrationsrv codeplex)
I am very new to .NET and SSIS. Any example or step by step instruction to achieve this is highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rajesh

Hi Rajesh
I created a CI system for SSIS 2012. I used Microsoft.SqlServer.IntegrationServices.Build.dll from
the  (Microsoft
SQL Server Community Samples: Integration Services) to make the MSBuild working. Jenkins is used
for CI system. Details can be found from this link: http://speaksql.wordpress.com/2013/09/04/ssis-2012-continuous-integration-using-jenkins-and-octopus-a-journey-to-db-deployment-automation/

  • How to migrate to SSIS 2012 from Integration Services dtsx file?

I am struck at migrating the dtsx file to SSIS 2012. How to migrate that dtsx file to SSIS 2012.I made it to migrate from SQL2000 to SQL 2005 dtsx. Now I want to migrate or upgrade it to SSIS 2012.How to achieve it.Help me please.

    Hi sammy,
Based on your description, you want to upgrade SQL Server 2005 packages to SQL Server 2012. If there are some individual packages, I suggest that we can directly add the SQL Server 2005 package to an existing project in SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT). For
    more details, please see:
Right click on the SSIS Packages folder in the Integration Services Project in SSDT and Select Add Existing Package from the context menu.
In the Add Copy of Existing Package dialog box select Package location as File System from the dropdown.
Click on the ellipsis button next to the Package path textbox.
Locate the SSIS package (.dtsx file) which you want to add from the file system.
Click OK in the Add Copy of Existing Package dialog box to finish adding and upgrading the package.
If those packages are located in a project, we can open a SQL Server 2005 Integration Services (SSIS) project file in SSDT, and then use the SSIS Package Upgrade Wizard to upgrade multiple packages in the project.
If there are any questions, please feel free to ask.
    Thanks,

    Hi Anil,
Am curious to know if this problem has been solved. Have you tried with Xcode 5.1 ?
Am trying to do this with Xcode 5.1, however am not able succeed the integration. However, am getting a little different error "NSLocalizedDescription=HTTP credential request failed, got HTTP status 400 with headers ".
From your logs, I can see that you are able to successfully download th credentials, which is failing at my end. Hence it would be great if you let me know where have saved your credentials? Below is the error excerpt:

  • Continuous Integration/Delivery with BizTalk Server

Can anyone point to good information on how to implement real-world continuous integration, and better continuous delivery, with BizTalk server?
    Thanks!

There are some articles that would help you in your quest
    Continuous Integration using TFS -

  • How do I load an SSIS package created in Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated) onto SQL Server 2012 using SQL Management Studio 2012

I am fairly new to this whole process of working with the Microsoft development environment.  Here is what I have to work with:
an NT server running Microsoft SQL 2012  - Microsoft SQL Server Standard (64-bit)  11.0.2100.60
and on my laptop (all freebie downloads):
SQL Server Management Studio 2012            ver 11.0.2100.60
Visual Studio 2012 Express  for Desktop Development and
    Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated)
I was able to create an SSIS package in
2012 Shell (Integrated).  It takes a flat file and imports it into an SQL database table.  It runs successfully from within the
    2012 Shell (Integrated) envrionment.
But I am having trouble figuring out how to set this up on the 2012 SQL Server.  I see that one of my colleagues created an Integration Services Catalog,
and using SQL Management Studio I was able to create a folder under that called DigLic.  But when I go to the Projects subfolder of DigLic and attempt to import my SSIS package, I get an error message:
"To launch the Integration Services Deployment wizard, one of the components: Integration Services, Management Tools - Basic or Business Intelligence Development Studio has to be installed by the SQL Server
2012 Standard, Enterprise, Developer, or Evaluation Edition.  To install a component, run SQL Server Setup and Select the component name"
I realize that Express Versions of Visual Studio lack the full feature set of a professional version.  But am I wrong in assuming that owning a server version of SQL Server 2012 gives us license to a professional
version of SQL Management Studio 2012?  If so, how would I go about getting this software component installed?  And I am not clear if this is something that needs to be installed on our SQL Server or if I simply need a professional version of SSMS
    loaded on my laptop.
I work for a company that is fairly fractured in its repsonsibilities, so I would need to know exactly what to ask for if I need to track down any licenses that I might need and if I need to have any specific software installed on our SQL server or on my
    laptop.
All helpt would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Arthur,
Thank you for your reply.  But at this point, one of my points of confusion is what software I have available to me.  I wish I had a useful central help desk to call up and just say, "Hey, load me up with all of the professional version(s) of Visual
Studio.  But I do not know what we have license to.  And I kind of need to know what the options are, so that I can ask a specific question of our vast buracracy.
For now, I have downloaded only free versions of Visual Studio client software.  Since my company does have servers running Microsoft SQL Server, I am going to assume that we have proper licensing for those servers.  But does that server license
allow me to get any professional versions of the PC client software for the various Visual Studio(s) 2012?
And if I get a professional version of Visual Studio 2012, does that do away with the three different flavors that I have right now?  I have 2012 versions of SQL Server Management Studio, Visual Studio Express, and Visual Studio Shell (Integrated).
    Your feedback is much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Yes you are right. At one sever where I was getting error, DateTime was in USA format and Where It was running successfully was in AUS format.
I changed from USA to AUS and I did another changes:
    Data Source Mode: SQL
    Command
    EXEC  [DBO].[SP_TEST]
    @FROMDATETIME = ?,
    @TODATETIME = ?
    and It is working fine.

  • Continuous Integration builds fail: PDB file in use?

I've got continuous integration running on our VSO project. The project builds and tests fine on 3 different computers (Clean / Build -> Run tests), but on VSO the build has been failing for 2 days with the following error:
CSC: Unexpected error creating debug information file 'c:\a\src\Code\DMi.Bms.CrossCuttingConcerns\obj\Debug\DMi.Bms.CrossCuttingConcerns.PDB' -- 'c:\a\src\Code\DMi.Bms.CrossCuttingConcerns\obj\Debug\DMi.Bms.CrossCuttingConcerns.pdb: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process
A lot of the solutions are all about developing in your local Visual Studio, mostly people having multiple IDE's open, or even debugging. None of these are the case for me, and I can't find anything pertaining this problem on Visual Studio Online.
Can anyone give me a hint?

    Hi
    Stijn,
I'd like to know if there any update. If the issue is fixed, please share your solution here. If not,  try the methods I mentioned above to check if there
any useful information in the build log and this issue can be resolved.
Or you can use a newer version of Azure SDK. Also add
Microsoft.WindowsAzure.targets to source control and check in with your solution. Then build with VSO build to have a check. Thanks for your understanding.

  • SSIS 2012: SSIS Error Code "Excel Connection Manager" failed with error code 0xC0202009.

    Hi,
This is kind of weird issue that I am experiencing with excel connection manager in SSIS 2012. This issue occurs sometimes but when I close and re-open SSDT (SQL Server Data Tools - newer BIDS) then this issues goes off temporarily.
Just FYI, through SSDT environment I executed the package successfully with both settings Run64bit runtime setting to Yes and No when error does not occur.
    So far I have installed
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13255 (Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable).
I still remember for older versions of SQL Server (2005 & 2008) that I have executed Excel connection SSIS packages with Run64bit runtime = false i.e. in 32-bit mode. As far as I know I think Excel 64-bit issue has been resolved with SQL Server
    2012 release.
Here is the detail of error message:
    TITLE: Package Validation Error

     (Microsoft.DataTransformationServices.VsIntegration)
    Here are my environment details:
    SQL Server 2012 {Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP1) - 11.0.3368.0 (X64) } , Excel 2010 (32-bit). I am developing SSIS code on Virtual desktops with Windows 7 32-bit OS.
Also it occurred to me that since Virtual Desktops are on Shared Infrastructure, the source files and SSIS packages (code) can be on Shared drives for e.g. \\<Corpnet>\userdata\<Corp_Users_Grp>\<Username>\Visual Studio 2010\Projects\Integration
    Services Project2\Integration Services Project2\Package.dtsx.
Does this kind of Shared drives have any impact to give this issue?
    Thanks in advance!

P.S.: I had look at this forum question -->
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/903bbe1d-e070-4c43-9d3b-0a5193550029/64bit-error-in-excel-connection-manager-in-ssis

    Hi Arthur,
    Thanks for your response.
Yes, it looks like SSIS still has bunch of issues with Excel files like as follows:
    1) Some times excel source files cannot be parsed by excel source connection manager.
    2) For derive column conversion, we can't replace the existing column. rather, we have to add the derived column as " add as new column" which is tough to manage  while destination mapping.
    3) If an column in excel contains a data which is not of the data type assigned for the column in excel, the excel source reads that data as "null". For the same, we can't validate the data and redirect the erroneous data in reject file.  <-- For
this we tried IMEX setting also
    4) In multi-tab/sheet excel file, excel source is unable to detect a tab and identify the metadata of the excel.
I am also checking Microsoft connect for Excel issues with SSIS 2012(https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/SearchResults.aspx?SearchQuery=excel#&&PageIndex=22
As worst case scenario, I am thinking of converting Excel to CSV file or Flat text file. (http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/2772/importing-data-from-excel-using-ssis--part-2/).
Do you think it is advisable to convert Excel into CSV or Flat file.
    Thanks,

  • SSIS 2012 job hangs dataflow task

    hi all,
i have 2 data flow tasks in a package that run based on parameters.
the package is being run as a sql agent job using catalog execution model.
the job sometimes hangs without reason. also, when i looked at the target sql tables, only few rows have been loaded into the 2 target tables and stopped when the job hanged,
the data flow tasks loads data from source into a target sql table.please advice on why the job hangs, are there issues with the catalog model of ssis 2012 that is causing this?

Perhaps this info (scripts) somehow shed light on the problem

  • SSIS 2012 loop once per row in a record

    Hi All,
I am new to 2012 and i am  not finding much help on the internet.  I have a control table that I need to use as a driver to loop through all my data/updates.  Using 2008r2 i would have used set up a result set holding

With 2012 i find T-SQL task but it doesn't work the same way.  Can anybody send me a link or show me an example of ssis 2012 creating a result set using a select from a control table, then using this result set in a loop
    container?
Thank you so much in advance.

  • Weird question in SSIS 2012 package

    hi folks:
I've created a SSIS 2012 package in my local machine using
Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer
    Version 11.0.3436.0
This package contains a script task using .NET framework 4 .
Everything works fine and I decided to deploy to the QA server.
On the QA server, the package wont' work then I decided to open in the SSIS designer with the same version 11.0.3436.0
This is when this weird things happens.
On the QA machine, when I opened this deployed pkg directly in SSIS designer and ran it, the pkg failed with the error pointing to the script task.
Then, I literally opened the script task and closed it WITHOUT changing anything .
After that, I ran the same package in SSIS designer... Guess what, it worked!!!
Weird!  could anyone here help explain what just happened? this makes my deployment process a nightmare as I have to literally opened the script task after it gets deployed and change the pkg location as SSIS designer will save the "good"
pkg in a different location other than deployed one.
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi cat_ca,
According to your description, the first time you run the SSIS package in SSIS designer, the package failed with the error pointing to the script task, you opened and closed the script task and re-run the package, it worked fine.
When we debug the SSIS package, the script component will be compiled to binary. In this case, the binary reverse failed due to some reason, so the script task is not normally build. To troubleshoot the problem, we can make use of logging feature to monitor
    execution of an SSIS package.

  • Execute the SSIS packages (2008 version) using SQL job 2008

We need to execute the SSIS packages (2008 version) using SQL job Please help with details information how to execute it.
1.Protection level of the SSIS packages.
2.Configuration File (Curently using XML file)
3.Please provide details how to create Credential (Windows User etc)  Do we need to create windows cred explicitly to run the Job etc..
4.Please provide details for creating Proxy.
5.How can we configure the xml file since the xml is reading from local box but when the package is moved from developement box to production box
then the local drive might not be mapped with Production box .
6.Roles that need to be tagged for the Proxy/Credential.
7.Which is the best and safest way to execute ssis packages either msdb deployment or filesystem deployment and other necessary details.

    Hi,
If you want to Execute your SSIS package using SQL job then best solution is to first deploy your Package
either using msdb deployment or filesystem deployment. The simplest approach to deployment is probably to deploy to the file system.
    So, here is the deployment steps;
There are four steps in the package deployment process:
The first optional step is optional and involves creating package
configurations that update properties of package elements at run time. The configurations are automatically included when you deploy the packages.
The second step is to build the Integration Services project to create a package deployment utility. The deployment utility for the project contains the packages that you want to deploy
The third step is to copy the deployment folder that was created when you built the Integration Services project to the target computer.
The fourth step is to run, on the target computer, the Package Installation Wizard to install the packages to the file system or to an instance of SQL Server.
    you can use below link also;
    http://bharath-msbi.blogspot.in/2012/04/step-by-step-ssis-package-deployment.html
After that you need to Schedule package using SQL Agent then  Have a look at the following link. It explains how to create an SQL job that can execute an SSIS package on a scheduled basis.
    http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertutorial/220/scheduling-ssis-packages-with-sql-server-agent/
Deployment in msdb deployment or filesystem deployment has there own merits and demerits.
For security point of view msdb deployment is good.
it provides Benefits from database security, roles and Agent interaction
    Protection Level;
In SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT), open the Integration Services project that contains the package.
Open the package in the SSIS designer.
If the Properties window does not show the properties of the package, click the design surface.
In the Properties window, in the Security group, select the appropriate value for the
    ProtectionLevel property.
If you select a protection level that requires a password, enter the password as the value of the
    PackagePassword property.
On the File menu, select Save Selected Items to save the modified package.
    SSIS Provide different Protection levels;
        DontSaveSensitive
        EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey
        EncryptSensitiveWithPassword
        EncryptAllWithPassword
        EncryptAllWithUserKey
        ServerStorage

  • SSIS 2012 Project Deploymeny Progressively Slower

I've noticed a gradual increase in the amount of time it takes for me to deploy a project to the SSIS Catalog. First of all, is there a way to deploy only specific packages or do I need to deploy the project everytime a package is added or changed?
In the beginning, the project only had few packages and the deployment time was not noticiably slow. Now, as I've added more projects (currently upto like 15 packages) I am beginning to notice an increase in the amount of time it takes for the project to
get deployed (like 5 minutes or more.)
Any explanation for this and how to make it go faster?

    Hi All
I too am experiencing this exact same problem and have tried all suggestions listed so far, nothing stood out. I'm running SQL 2012 SP1 with CU3 or 4 (whichever is the one with the PowerView MD update!!) which I hoped would fix this issue which is really
starting to bug me, despite loving the new deployment method.
The only thing that made a small difference was adding several suggested missing indexes on the SSISDB database itself (see
http://www.ssistalk.com/2013/01/31/ssis-2012-catalog-indexing-recommendations/), however this increased the speed of the 'Changing protection level' but made no difference with the speed of the 'Deploying project' which used to be super fast, now I deploy
projects which used to deploy fast with say 2 or 3 small packages no take 15 or 20 minutes - come on Microsoft!!!!
I can only think that this is a bug of some kind or there is another index required somewhere on the SSISDB database, hopefully this will be something fixed in another CU or SP2 maybe whenever that arrives. I'll keep searching but let us know if you find
any fix for this too! :-)
Edit: Forgot to mention that I'm running with full admin rights on server and SQL server itself. It makes no difference running from server or remote workstation. This is NOT a network issue. I feel that its most likely an index required somewhere...
Further update: I've been taking a look at the activity monitor which is showing a suspended execute (detail: SSISDB.catalog.start_execution;1) and also it is having a problem with this select query:
    SELECT
    u.name AS [Name],
    u.principal_id AS [ID],
    ISNULL(ak.name,N'') AS [AsymmetricKey],
    ISNULL(cert.name,N'') AS [Certificate],
    ISNULL(suser_sname(u.sid),N'') AS [Login],
            CASE
            WHEN N'C' = u.type THEN 1
            WHEN N'K' = u.type THEN 2
            WHEN N'S' = u.type AND SUSER_SNAME(u.sid) is null AND u.authentication_type != 2 THEN 3
            ELSE 0 END
           AS [UserType]
    FROM
    sys.database_principals AS u
LEFT OUTER JOIN sys.asymmetric_keys AS ak ON ak.sid = u.sid
LEFT OUTER JOIN sys.certificates AS cert ON cert.sid = u.sid
    WHERE
    (u.type in ('U', 'S', 'G', 'C', 'K'))
    ORDER BY
    [Name] ASC
And also this query seems to flick between suspended and running (wait type is still making me thing some indexing problem but I've checked existing ones and I've rebuilt several with high fragmentation and no difference):-
    (@_msparam_0 nvarchar(4000),@_msparam_1 nvarchar(4000))SELECT
    u.name AS [Name],
    u.principal_id AS [ID],
    CAST(CASE WHEN u.principal_id < 5 OR u.principal_id = 16382 OR u.principal_id = 16383 THEN 1 ELSE 0 END AS bit) AS [IsSystemObject],
    CASE WHEN N'U' = u.type THEN 0 WHEN N'G' = u.type THEN 1 WHEN N'S' = u.type THEN 2 WHEN N'C' = u.type THEN 3 WHEN N'K' = u.type THEN 4 END AS [LoginType],
    CAST(CASE dp.state WHEN N'G' THEN 1 WHEN 'W' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END AS bit) AS [HasDBAccess],
    u.sid AS [Sid],
    u.create_date AS [CreateDate],
    u.modify_date AS [DateLastModified],
    ISNULL(u.default_schema_name,N'') AS [DefaultSchema],
    ISNULL(cert.name,N'') AS [Certificate],
    ISNULL(ak.name,N'') AS [AsymmetricKey],
    ISNULL(suser_sname(u.sid),N'') AS [Login],
    ISNULL(u.default_language_lcid, -1) AS [DefaultLanguageLcid],
    ISNULL(u.default_language_name,N'') AS [DefaultLanguageName],
    u.authentication_type AS [AuthenticationType],
            CASE
            WHEN N'C' = u.type THEN 1
            WHEN N'K' = u.type THEN 2
            WHEN N'S' = u.type AND SUSER_SNAME(u.sid) is null AND u.authentication_type != 2 THEN 3
            ELSE 0 END
           AS [UserType]
    FROM
    sys.database_principals AS u
    LEFT OUTER JOIN sys.database_permissions AS dp ON dp.grantee_principal_id = u.principal_id and dp.type = @_msparam_0
LEFT OUTER JOIN sys.certificates AS cert ON cert.sid = u.sid
LEFT OUTER JOIN sys.asymmetric_keys AS ak ON ak.sid = u.sid
    WHERE
    (u.type in ('U', 'S', 'G', 'C', 'K'))and(u.name=@_msparam_1)
The packages and project at this point seem to be deployed as the appear in the Integration Services Catalog, just seems like these last processes are causing the deployment to take MUCH longer than appears... Is anyone else getting this in their slow deployments?
