ST03 Analysis

Hi ,
Can anybody give me how to go about detailed workload analysis using ST03. Till now i only look
for average response times.  Also, I am not aware about the meaning of the fields like  ' STEPS' and 'TRIPS' in the screen of ST03.  In general what will be the thresholds of the average response times?
Please explain me with a screenshot if possible.
Thanks,
RK

Hi Rama,
Please find the details as below:
<b>STEPs - No of dialog steps:</b>
Number of steps in the SAP system. The exact meaning of a step is dependent on the task type:
DIALOG: A transaction step corresponds to a screen change, that is, a request that the SAP R/3 system executes for a user.
BACKGROUND: A background job can consist of one or more transaction steps.
UPDATE: An update request that was started by a call from the dialog or background processing, corresponds to one transaction step, even if multiple updates are processed.
SPOOL: Multiple print requests are usually processed in one step.
The SAP R73 kernel generates a statistical entry for each transaction step. You can evaluate these in the business transaction analysis.
Only the task types DIALOG (without RFC, ALE, CPIC), UPDATE, and UPDATE2 can be evaluated in the transaction detail analysis
<b>TRIPS - Number of roundtrips:</b>
A roundtrip is a communciation step between the application server and the local SAP R/3 front end during a dialog step.

<u>The average dialog response can be in the range of 1000-1200 ms. Below 1000ms is very good.</u>

  • OLAP runtime very high - urgent

    Hello Experts,
I am execting a query containing almost 30 RKF by hierarchy nodes and 30 CKF on those RKF.
Also, I am using Alt UOM in the KF conversions.
My ST03 analysis indicates that %OLAP runtime is approx 60% of total runtime.
I request you to suggest me few tips, which can considerably reduce OLAP runtime w/o removing RKF and CKF from query.
Should I use OLAP cache or not. What all settings I should apply in Query monitor (RSRT).
How do I test performance improvement.
What are the steps to set precalculation of reports, however this is the last option.
I read one of the blog from Prakash, he has suggested to inactivate OLAP cache when RKF and CKF are there in the query. Is it ok.
    Thanks,
    Swati

I would go with OLACP cache as per your requirement
OLAP Cache should be used whenever possible. However, for queries that are executed only once (or very rarely) or for very small queries (e.g., DB time < 0.10 sec), the cache overhead could lead to slightly worse performance.
Check if the Shared Memory size (rdsb/esm/buffersize_kb) is bigger than the OLAP Cache size. By default, the Shared Memory size is very small. SAP recommend an initial size of 100MB.
For more information on the OLAP Cache, see SAPnote 456068 .
If all frontend users are authorized to create queries, note that the OLAP Cache for a particular query gets invalidated each time the query is changed and re-activated and it might be useless eventually.
Queries containing virtual characteristics/key figures do not use the OLAP Cache by default. As the OLAP Cache cannot control other database tables, which might be read within the customer exits, and hence cannot invalidate, if there are any changes in those tables, this default setting guarantees data consistency. However, you can enforce explicitly the usage of the OLAP Cache, if you are sure that there canu2019t be a difference between the cached data and the original data using the virtual characteristics/key figures.
If you use virtual characteristics/key figures and want to use the OLAP cache, first make sure that the data is ALWAYS consistent, i.e. that the customer exit is not using frequently updated tables. Keep in mind that the Cache is not invalidated if the data in these tables changes! You can then enforce using the Cache as described in SAPnote 623768 (Extended Cache Functionality).
You can use OLAP trace (RSRTRACE) to warm up the OLAP cache.
    Hope it Helps

  • Please solve a mystery for me involving the Reporting Analysis View in ST03

    Greetings to All,
Happy 2008 to everyone!  We are trying to improve query performance.  I have found lots of helpful documentation telling me to use ST03.  All of the documents have instructed me to use the following navigation:
    1.  Run ST03.
    2.  Choose the Expert user mode.
    3.  Choose the period to be analyzed in the BI Workload tree.
    4.  Under Analysis Views, choose the profile Reporting.
HERE IS THE MYSTERY: my screen does NOT display a profile called "Reporting".  We cannot find it anywhere on the screen.  What am I missing?  Any assistance would be greatly appeciated!
We are using SAP NetWeaver 2004s.
    Thanks,
    Sarah-Jane

u can discuss this issue with ur basis person or security person at ur firm.
xplain them that u wanna use st03 transaction
    and authorization is getting faile
xplain them u r not able to see any data...
    discuss the possible option.
try to use st03 from other user id ... if u can get it ... ur colleague or just bother them and see the st03 result at their pc
if it bring s the result to their pc then for sure u have authorizaiton problem.....
as the authorization objects are maintained differently at each company i am not sure about how it works at ur place....
(authorization is nothing but for each transaction and for acess to each transaction and several data providers, authorization objects are created for each of them and then they are assigned to ur user id...... for eg. sarahjc    now if there is some st03 authorization objects are there and if they are not assigned to ur user id , then they must if u wanna use that transaction.....)
u can check authorization object to ur user id by using transaction SU01.... and if u know that someone else is getting result in st03 transaction then using su01 u can compare authorization objects to each user id and analyse what is missing ....

  • Performance analysis  in tcode st02, st03, st04, st06

what performance analysis we will do in tcode st02, st03, st04, st06. I want to know the in detail calculation.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Buffer: The first column shows the names of the buffers:
    Four ABAP repository buffers.
The program, CUA, screen, and calendar buffers.
    The table buffers.
    Hit Ratio:
A hit is when an object (such as a table, screen, or program) in the buffer is accessed. If the object has to be read from the database, the buffer access fails.
    Allocated Size:
The allocated size is measured in KB. It is different from the available buffer size because a part of the size is used for buffer management.
    Freespace :
Freespace is important for analyzing the buffer size. The space remaining in the buffer is displayed in KB and percentage of the available buffer size.
    Number of Directories:
Even though there is freespace in the buffer, objects may not always be loaded into the buffer because there are no more free directories. The Buffers Monitor displays the number of directories available for the buffer, and the number and percentage free. The buffer directories point to the location of the objects that are located in the buffer.
    Swapping:
When a buffer has insufficient freespace or free directories, it has to swap objects out of the buffer in order to load a new object. The column Swap shows how many objects have been swapped out since system startup.
    Database Accesses
When an object cannot be read from the buffer, the database has to be accessed. The number ofdatabase accesses is displayed in the last column of this screen.

  • Data analysis of ST03 in SAP R/3

    Hello,
I'd like to see who ran which transactions in March of this year in our SAP R/3 system.
How can we extract SAP R/3 ST03 t-code data to BW system and analyze this data?
Could you give me your advice?

  • Workload analysis (ST03) - weekly report is missing

    Hi All,
We have a issue in ST03N transaction. I noticed the daily report for performnce analysis(responce time) is available but it is not available for weekly report. This is happening from last 3 weeks, previously I was getting the response time report for daily, weekly and monthly in tcode st03n. I am quite surprised that now it is only available for daily and monthly but not for weekly. I also checked the job SAP_COLLECTOR_FOR_PERFORMANCE_MONITOR which is running fine. I also trid to check the log from performance monitor collector, where it is only showing error occered Since <date> . There is not much information why the weeklly report is not available.
Is there anything where we can see why this different behaviour in statistics ? Please advice...
    Thanks in Advance

    Hai,
I guess somebody had reorganised MONI table, means deleted Contents of the Monitoring Database.
If this is the case the system will take sometime to build the values to show in terms of weeks and months.
    Please check the below link.....

  • What is the OS level strategy for ST03(work load analysis)

I mean Is there is any possibility to observe the things from OS level that we generally monitor from ST03

ST03(N) is a transactions that accumulates data from table MONI and various other tables. If you want to "look" at that data from OS level you need to either export the table MONI and write your own program to display that data or write a program, that does an RFC call into the system and gets that data for you (basically external monitoring tools such as Tivoli, HP Openview etc. do it like this).
If you would be precise, what you want to do, I could give a precise answer.
If your question is: Can I see the data from OS level that I see in ST03(N) the answer is no.

  • Help needed in ST03

    Hi Experts,
Could some one give me the list of Tables from where
    ST03 shows data?
I have installed the new Business Stats.RSSDSTAT
Table is obsolete in the new BI 7 Stats.so there should
    be some other tables.
I need the table information because I am getting
blank data related to queries analysis(run time of query,
users accessed, time of access) in ST03.
But when I run the query statistics report in Bex analyzer,
I am getting the required information.
Could some one help me in solving the above problem?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Senoy

    Hi Chetan and Rajani,
I have already installed BI 7 technical stats.
Now the problem is that when I go to ST03(expert mode).
Clicked on BI workload. Then I gave user defined analyis
    period from 01.01.2008 to 21.08.2008.
I am not getting any query related information with this selection. But I could see the process chain status, aggregate
    information,Load Data Status in ST03
I checked the contents of table RSDDSTAT_OLAP and RSDDSTAT_DM .Here I can find data. When I run the
Bex Reports for query, I am able to get data there but
    not in ST03.
I also ran the infopackages for query and infocube master
data along with the 6 standard process chains for BI 7 stats.
    What could be the problem?
    Thanks and Regards,

I had installed QAS & DEV instances successfully on one windows host.Below are the syste details.
OS :- Windows 2003 64 bit Standard Edition
    Database :- Oracle 10.2.0.2
    SAP :- R/3 4.7 Enterprise Ext. 200 SR1
    Support Pack :-
    SAP_Basis 6.20 Level 41

    Hi Markus,
I have seen the note#741119, it asks to apply pack SAPKB64004, but its says its valid for Release 640 only. My release is 640 currently:
    Software Component Name     SAP_BASIS
    Software Component Release     620
    Support Package Level     0041
    Highest Imported Support Package     SAPKB62041
Short Description of Software Component     SAP Basis Component
Support Package type     Basis Support Pkg.
My question is, can i apply the pack directly on release 620? The prequisite to this pack says, the release should be 640. This forum helped me a lot, hoping you guys will solve my this issue as well.

  • BI Workload in BI 7.0(ST03)

    Hi,
Can somebody tell whether BI Workload(ST03 - Expert Mode) is different in BI 7.0 compared to BW 3.5? I have already enabled the BI statistics setting in RSA1 for the cube and the query, however I fail to see any statistical data in ST03. When I click on BI Workload it says that "The infoprovider 0TCT_MC01 doesn't exist; reporting analysis not possible". In BW3.5, with these many steps, I can easily see the runtime statistics in ST03.
Do I have to install technical content in  order to use ST03? Also there is another difference I noticed, RDDSTAT table is empty whether I can see statistical data in the views RSDDSTAT_OLAP and RSDDSTAT_DM. So clearly there is some marked changes in BI 7.0. If somebody can throw some light on this, that will be immensely appreciated. Specially how to use ST03 in BI 7.0 as the same is pretty convenient as per my BW 3.5 experience.
    Thanks,
    Anurag.
P.S. - I know there are other ways to get runtime statistics like RSRT and stuff, however my front end is not BEX. It is a MDX/ODBO setup and hence can't really use RSRT or BI admin cockpit.

I think you will have to use ST03N in BI7 and for this you need to have stats enabled in the BI system...
Do I have to install technical content in order to use ST03?  - Yes

    hi,
SE30 - gives you a run time analysis and points out the issues more at design time.
ST05 - Is the most useful if you want to track time taken for execution of each of the sections.
SM50 - Will give you a work process overview, not sure at a program level how can it help you.
Some times you will have to use a combination of SE30 and ST05.
I would like to use St05 personally.
SQL Trace (ST05) we use for performance tuning
In se38,you have a report and you want to test the performance of that report
ST05 tells about the summary of sql statements used in that program.
    -Go to Tcode ST05
    -Select Trace on
    -In se38,Execute your report-
-Come back to st05 and select Trace off
    -Select Trace list.
Now you check your select stmnts and how much time taking
-Some columns showing pink color are expensive select stmnts
You have so many options inside to check for summary and also index..

  • How to do Performance analysis of any ABAP report

    Hello Friends,
I have to do the performance analysis of ABAP report, it takes time to execute. I am  not aware about, how to do performance analysis? I know only we have check index, do ST04 and ST05 analysis. but how to do these things  that i don't know.
Can anyone please guide me in this regards.
    Thanks

    HI,
    Please Check this,
System Trace: Transaction ST01 lets you do various levels of system trace such as authorization checks, SQL traces, table/buffer trace etc. It is a general Basis tool but can be leveraged for BW.
Workload Analysis: You use transaction code ST03
Database Performance Analysis: Transaction ST04 gives you all that you need to know about whatu2019s happening at the database level.
Performance Analysis: Transaction ST05 enables you to do performance traces in different are as namely SQL trace, Enqueue trace, RFC trace and buffer trace.
ABAP Runtime Analysis Tool: Use transaction SE30 to do a runtime analysis of a transaction, program or function module. It is a very helpful tool if you know the program or routine that you suspect is causing a performance bottleneck.

  • Dialog Step Number at SAP Workload Monitor (ST03)

    Hi.
We want to get a number of today's dialog step from SAP.
I know we can get a this number at ST03.
If we want to get a number from outside SAP, Which function module at SAP can return this number ?
    Any idea ?
    Regards, Arnold.

    Hi,
    - goto ST03N
    - choose Expert Mode
    - on workload section (top left), choose you server (or you can choose total too) and period (on your case select day)
    - choose today
    - on the right, tab frontend, the first column (#steps) will show you the number of dialog step performed by each user/ terminal.
    - if you choose instance tab, the first column (#steps) will show you summary the number of dialog steps on that server (or total)
    from SAP Help (F1)
    description of #Steps field :
    SAP Workload: Number of Steps
Number of transaction steps in the SAP System.
In a dialog task, one transaction step corresponds to a screen change; a request executed by the R/3 System for a user.
A background job can consist of one or more transaction steps, if several job steps are processed.
An update request triggered by a call from the dialog or the background corresponds to one transaction step, even if several updates are processed.
Several print requests are usually processed during one spool step.
The R/3 kernel generates a statistical entry for each transaction step; you can analyze the entries using the business transaction analysis.
    hope it help you.
