Stacked canvas disappearing

Hi All,
Iam using forms 6i..its not working when Iam trying to call a canvas from a procedure but working if i write the code in a button (when-button-pressed)
Iam using go_block('abc'); ---say abc is the block name in that canvas..
If i use pause; after this go_block i can see the canvas. This canvas is having one text item and one button

That sounds like a "Hack" to me. You shouldn't have to fail the form to make things work. What about the code that comes after the RAISE Form_Trigger_Failure? This code will never execute because you have halted execution. A better solution would be to trace through your form (either by turning runtime debug messages on or by using Forms Runtime Diagnostics [FRD]) to see why your form is not behaving as you are expecting.

Question about stacked canvas disappearing

Hi,
I have a block which has some database items and non-database items. Since
there are many items in the block, I use a stacked canvas with horizontal bar
to display the less important items.
In the trigger of new-block-instance, show_view('stacked_canvas')
But I face one problem. When I click on a non-database item and then move
the cursor away from the item, the stacked canvas suddenly disappears.
Any idea ?

Imagine each canvas as a piece of paper stacked on a desk. Each piece of paper possibly has a different size and the top left corner of each piece is possible oriented in a different spot. When you say show_view('stacked_canvas') its like reaching to the bottom of the pile and putting that canvas top. When you click on an item not on the stacked canvas that items canvas is placed on top. Your problem is that your non-database item content canvas is covering up the stacked canvas. I think...
Your issue could be solved by simply rearranging the canvas order by putting the stacked canvas last (I think) in the object navigator.
Raise on Entry could also be causing your issue. Go to the help. Click the search tab. Type "raise on entry". Read "Working with the Raise on Entry Canvas Property". There is a good explanation in there on how stacked canvases get covered up by content canvases and when.

Stacked canvas

Hi
I have a screen where part of the block is in a 'fixed' content canvas and part is in a stacked canvas which is scrollable. Initially, both canvases are displayed and I can scroll backwards and forwards in the stacked canvas. However, when I select one of the fields that is outside the stacked canvas the stacked canvas disappears. Is there anyway of pinning the stacked canvas so that it is visible all the time.

What i understand when your naviagation is on contact canvas item then stack canvas disappear.
it is so simple just click on the border of stack canvas and drag the stack canvas away from the items of contant canvas. it may possible your stack canvas is over the any item of contant canvas

Simple Problem with Stacked Canvas, I hope

Hello all,
I am become a bit frustrated with what I thought would be a simple form development solution. I am trying to create a form with a stacked canvas that will display about 20 fields that can be scrolled through. This is the detail
Total of 25 fields
5 Fields on the content canvas
20 Fields on the stacked canvas
I created the first canvas that originally contained all 25 fields. Then I created the stacked canvas and moved the appropriate fields to the stacked canvas. Using the forms builder editor, I positioned my stacked canvas as such so that it would not overlap the last field on the content canvas or visa versa. This is a form being developed for Oracle EBus. Whenever I run the form in the apps, the stacked canvas is not visible. It only becomes visible when the 1st field on the canvas has focus. When the stacked canvas becomes visible, it shows all of the items of the stacked canvas and not just the ones that I included in the viewpoint. Once I tab through the last field of the stacked canvas, it goes back to the first field on the content canvas and the stacked canvas disappears. At this point I am not doing anything complicated, but for whatever reason this just is NOT working. Any advice anyone can provide, I would very much appreciate it. This is VERY frustrating.

Step No. 1
Set the STACKED CANVAS's property VIEWPORT WIDTH AND VIEWPORT HEIGHT
This property determines what viewable width and height of the stacked canvas at runtime.
Set SHOW HORIZONTAL SCROLL BAR or SHOW VERTICAL SCROLL BAR or BOTH as YES so that you can scroll down to view all the items in the CANVAS.
Step NO.2
In your WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE trigger, write the code to make the canvas visible
SHOW_VIEW('stack_canvas_name');

Stacked contents disappear when reach the end of the field

I have one content canvas and one stacked canvas, I have putting the show_view('canvas1') to show the stacked canvas in the when-new-form-instance. However, when I press enter on the first field in the content canvas, the stacked canvas disappear immediately and when the cursor jump from content canvas to stacked canvas the stacked canvas is shown. When I keep on press enter reach the end field of the stacked canvas and jump back to the content canvas, the stacked canvas is disappear again. And the cursor still keep on reside on the firs record / row without jumping to the next two of record. How do deal with this ?
I need to shown the stacked canvas even the cursor back to the first content canvas and also I want the record to be jump into next row / record once it reach the end of the column.

Tab Canvas displaying Stacked Canvas at runtime disappears?

I have 3 canvases that contain the following:
1) Content Canvas -- This contains the TREE item.
2) Tab Canvas -- A tab canvas with a single Tab Page
3) Stacked Canvas -- This is a Stack Canvas with a few
text items on it.
4) Single Window.
======At runtime the following actions occur: ==========
1) The Viewport of the stacked canvas is set to the
Viewport of the Tab Page on the Tab Canvas so that it
looks like the Tab Page has a vertical and horizontal
scrollbar with text items displayed.
2) A text item on the Stacked Canvas is in focus as soon
the as the form window is displayed.
===================Problem is : =====================
1) When I select a Node of the Tree Item, the Tab Canvas
automatically disappears(or becomes invisible) , as a
result the stacked canvas displayed within it at
runtime also becomes invisible. I am left with only
the Tree item being displayed.

PS : I have never experienced this problem with just the
content canvas and the Tab Canvas together.
Any soultion to this problem is most appreciated.

I am experiencing the exact same thing. The width of the tabs in the layout editor is varied depending on the length of the text. However, at run-time, the width of the tabs is fixed, causing the tabs to be wider than the window and a set of VCR buttons to appear in the upper right corner of the canvas. Personally, I think this is a Forms bug. Why would they intentionally let us set the width to variable at design-time only to force a fixed width at run-time?

Tab canvas disappear when the main stacked canvas reach the end of column

Hi all,
I have 3 canvas ( 1 main canvas, 1 stacked canvas ) and this link to 1 tab canvas. All these are in the same window.
Whenever using the keyboard to press enter navigate from column to column and when it reach the end of the main canvas which is about to jump to the stack canvas, the two canvas ( stacked & tab ) was hide by itself. Even I have stated earlier to show all canvas in the pre-block trigger. when I keep on press the enter to jump to the next stacked canvas, this stacked canvas is being shown again. My tab canvas was not appear if I am press the enter key. However, if I press the arrow key down the tab canvas is appear. This I wasn't do any code to call the tab canvas.
When I keep on press enter and reach the end of the stacked canvas again the tab canvas is disappear, unless I have press the arrow key down to display the tab canvas.
Trying to use show_view( tab canvas ) in many trigger but still does not show the effect.
Anyone has this experience before ?

How to remove the black line from a stacked canvas at run time???

Hi All,
I've developed a stacked canvas within a content canvas, when I run the form the stacked canvas apeared with a black line takes it.
How to remove this line or how to disappear this line at run time??
I tried to do this by putting (no line) in tools palette to the line color tool after selecting the black line one and after selecting the stacked canvas another once, but this did not resolve the problem!
I need something else:
I put the stacked canvas at detail data block and it didn't appear since I execute query in master data block

u mean the border line? In stacked canvas property, select contour/outline and set it to none.
Make sure, the stacked canvas is behind the content canvas in the objectnavigator. Then check your
properties of the stacked canvas:
- Position on content canvas
- size
- size of clipping
Set stacked canvas property automatic visible to yes.
Make sure the stacked canvas is not overlayed by other stacked canvas or items.

Help! - Stacked canvases disappear

Using Forms 6.05. Have content canvas with 2 stacked canvases which I want visible at all times. Have 2 large data blocks requiring horizontal scrollbars on the stacked canvases. Have put the identifier column from each of the data blocks on the content canvas so they remain static and visible while the user scrolls horizontally thru the remainder of the data blocks. Have also put the vertical scrollbars for the data blocks on the content canvas so they too remain static and visible when scrolling horizontally. PROBLEM: When content canvas 1st displays, stacked canvases are visible and data blocks are populated. If the first user action is to manipulate the scrollbar, the stacked canvases disappear. However, if the user clicks on a data block item first and then manipulates the scrollbar, the stacked canvases remain visible. HELP! I can't figure out what is happening and how to fix it. Any info is appreciated.

The canvases have to be ordered in the Forms definition in the order they overlap each other on the screen, i.e. content canvas, stacked canvas, stacked canvas.
Use show_view and immideatelly go_block built ins, where the block is a block from the stacked canvas.
The items shown on the stacked canvases have to be separated in different blocks, where you have to declare the scrolbares.

Tab canvas disappears at run time

Hi,
I have a Content canvas with a data block displaying fields in the top section of the canvas_main. Bottom half of the canvas_main has canvas_tab with three tab pages tab1, tab2, tab3 all have data block (child records fo above block) each.
At run time I can see the canvas main with its items but cannot see the tab pages.
since I execute a query in WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE which is supposed to populate fields in canvas_main as well as child records in tab pages. I have inlcuded debug messages to see if tab page does appear or not. So the tab pages do appear and also display child record but tab canvas does not stay on the scree.
Did try to use SHOW_VIEW('tab_canvas') without any luck.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
a tab canvas is like a stacked canvas.
Both canvas types disappear, when they lie over an item, with input focus. When you press next block / next item (when the items on the tab canvas belong to the same block) should display the canvas again. When this is true, I am probably right.

Stacked canvas as a tab element

I am working on a form say 'A'. In this form, I have a tabbed canvas 'B' with 4 tabs.
I created another stacked canvas 'C' on which there are elements from 3 different blocks. Now I need to make this stacked canvas as an element of tab2 in canvas 'B'. I.e., if the user clicks on the tab2 of canvasB, it should show the stacked canvas C below the tab.
How can I do this?

It is not possible to define stacked canvas for a tab canvas.
To avoid such circumstances,
in pre-form, you write
HIDE_VIEW('STACKED_CANVAS');
SHOW_VIEW('TAB_CANVAS');
If tab canvas is not showing up, set the fol. property
raise on entry : yes
viewport x and y position to 0
and try runing ,
if the tab canvas is showing up, gradually return to the required position
else check for any hide_view(tab_canvas) code in your form.
or you can reduce the height of content canvas to view tab canvas. Check the window name of content and tab canvas is same.
And in when tab page changed, you write for each tab page name
IF :SYSTEM.TAB_NEW_PAGE='PAGE2' THEN
go_item('some item in tab page 2');
SHOW_VIEW('STACKED_CANVAS');
ELSIF :SYSTEM.TAB_NEW_PAGE='PAGE1'

Why that go-item is required?
Suppose your cursor is in an item in the stacked canvas, and if you click on page 1, The stack canvas wont disappear.

Wanna fix an item on stacked canvas

Hi all,,,
plz i 've a content canvas & upp on it thr is a stacked canvas coz in the window i've abt 10 items i wanna show 5 of them & scroll to the other five
the point now that i wanna one item of these items to be fixed when i'm scrolling to the end of the canvas so how i can do tht while when i put it on separate stacked it comes separately , as i canot make another stacked canvas on the one i have

the problem is i just put the item (id for example)on the content canvas & rest of items are on the stacked canvas
as first as i open the form the the id column appear alone , & when i navigate out of it ,,, it disappears & go to the other canvas
they r not displaying together
while wht's required here that this item be fixed on the screen & all other items r scrolled

Setting VIEWPORT_X_POS hide the stack canvas

In Forms 6i i use the next command:
set_view_property(l_canvas_stack_name, VIEWPORT_X_POS, l_canvas_stack_x_pos);
when the l_canvas_stack_x_pos > 0 (in my case = 175).
But instead of move it to different x position the command hide the canvas (its disappear from window).
What can be a problem?

If i try the code you modify i see only stack canvas on the window without content canvas.okey that's what i explaned previously u can comment the
-- Hide_canvas ('canvas_name');
it can't be used in When-New-Form-Instance because i as said it hides the main basic content canvas.But it will only shows the the content + Stacked and set the cursor focus in ur stacked
The procedure repaint items on the content and stack canvas according to user definition of items orders (its change item's x position and width).sorry but i can't imagine could u give me an example pls.

The user supposed to define items orders u mean in a store application or the oreder of items from a,b,c to say c,a,b according to what i don't know.

How to show additional items in the same window using stacked canvas.
My content canvas has 14 items, and I have to include more.
I want to know how I can use a stacked canvas to show these additional items in the same window, so that I can scroll through horzontally , as if all the items are on one canvas.

Well, I intially navigate into my content canvas. At this stage the stacked canvas is not visible, then how should I navigate to an item on the stacked canvas to make it visible?

1st issue:-
I have created 3 pages layout under same .fmb
Out of those , page1 I have made in content canvas & 2 layout(Say page2 & page3) I have made in two different stack canvas.Page1 contain two text field- 1.NAME 2. PROFILE CODE.
when user open it page1 (content canvas) & page2 (1st stack canvas) should show .For a specific value in PROFILE CODE (say JAPAN) profile code (page1+page3) should open.& for all other profile codes (page 1+page2) should remain,irrespective of whatever value in NAME.
Please tell me how can I do this??
1. Please help me with a sample code & also where (in which trigger) I should write the condition.
2. What all changes are required in property palette?
3. will both the canvas will be on the same window?
2nd issue:-

In the Object Navigator, under the Canvases node, double-click the content canvas' object icon. In the Layout Editor, choose View | Stacked Views.
and could see both the page1+page2 there from layout editor.
BUT while I run it its showing only the page1(content canvas)
Please help me out.....

If I put it like this In WHEN-NEW-FORM-INSTANCE trigger check the PROFILE CODE and display the stacked canvas based on the value in PROFILE CODE---
Then content canvas will be shown first(Page1) ,then user will select profile code, depending upon the profile code selected ,either page2 (stacked canvas) or page3(stacked canvas) will be shown.
But I want whenever user opening the form ,page1 & page2 should show by default.then user will select profile code.if profile code is for page2 ,it should stay in that (default) page only.If profile code is for page3 then it will automatically go to page3 along with page1.
