Stage Play Format in an iBook?

Hello,
I'm creating an eBook (in all formats: ePub, PDF, iBook and maybe even .MOBI) for a client and I'm trying to figure out how to format it.  It's an original stage play (theatrical...you know, like Shakespeare) that she'd like to sell and distribute as an eBook.  Is it possible to keep the formatting similar to a stage play  (with indented dialogue, character lines, and stage directions on the left)?  Something like this.
I've seen examples in the iBooks store of Shakespeare and Arthur Miller and such, so I believe it is, but I'm not sure how to do it.
Is it simply a matter of tabs and indents and line breaks?  Or is it more complicated (like coding, html, widgets?).
Is there a template or tutorial/guide you can recommend?
Of course PDF is the easiest option, but the samples I saw were iBook formats with flowable, resizable text.  I'd like to do that, instead of a fixed-layout PDF.
Thanks,
Justin

  • Is it possible to save a movie in Extended Play format?

I have a long home movie (3 hours) that I would like to save on a single DVD.
It looks like iDVD only allows you to save two hours on a DVD.
My VCR - DVD recorder allows me to use the Extended Play format to record up to 6 hours on a single DVD.
Is there an option in iDVD which allows me to do the same?
    Thanks

Burning that many DVDs can take a serious toll on your burner. You would have to let it "breath" between disks and that can take a long time. If you burn just one double-layer and check it out carefully you might be able to find a source to duplicate it at a "reasonable" price.

There is no option for autoplay on page turn. There is no option for autoplay, only loop.

  • .AVI files not playing correctly on G3 iBook

With the help of JulieJulieJulie and others I am able to import my mpeg 4 video clips (they are in .avi format on my Casio Exilim EX S600 digital camera) into iPhoto and play them without any difficulty on my G5 iMac and my G4 Powerbook. This morning I imported a group of these files onto my daughter's G3 iBook running Tiger 10.4.5 and iPhoto 5. I tried using both the EX_M4S2 component as well as the Casio .avi importer to view them with the same bad result. The clip starts and then becomes badly distorted, kind of like an impressionist painting through bad glasses--all blurry and wiggly. I then tried viewing them with mpeg streamclip and they also didn't play properly--they just kept stopping. Any idea why the G3 iBook would not be able to play them properly? I have Quicktime 7.0.4 Pro running on all three Macs.

Something you might try as an experiment (if you have a FireWire cable and your iBook G3 has a FireWire port) would be to start-up your G5 in target disk mode and then boot the iBook with the option key down, select the G5's hard drive to boot from and see if playback is noticably better - the system would be running from the hard drive in the G5 which is a 3.5" (vs. the 2.5" drive in the iBook) and runs considerably faster. If playback improves then drive speed would appear to be a factor. Or the OS and QuickTime version installed on the G5 vs. that installed on the iBook since the iBook would be using the software from the G5 hard drive.)

  • Settings to export a Quicktime video to play smoothly on an iBook G3

Hi, now I that I have an A/V cable for my iBook, I can hook it up to my TV to watch videos, etc. The problem is, a lot of videos do not play smoothly because the processor is only 500 Mhz G3.
I have tried to "re-enocde" the videos at a smaller size, etc thinking that they might play better, but haven't been able to find a set of settings that works.
For example, right now I want to re-encode the Apple Keynote from the other day so I can watch it on TV. I tried doing this with the last Apple keynote and was never able to keep the picture smooth and the audio in sync. It was a disaster no matter what I tried, and I ended up just watching it on another computer - although i'd rather watch it on my TV from the couch!
I do have Quicktime PRO, so if anyone could give me some suggestions in re-compressing this video, that would be great!
    Thanks!
    -Scott

Tilting at windmills if I ever saw it.
You could download the iTunes version (a little over one gigabyte) to have a file to work with and use QuickTime Pro to export.
You would then switch to the MPEG-4 Video codec rather than use the H.264 version that is nearly impossible play without issues on a G3.
Cut the frame rate in half (30 down to 15) and do the same with the data rate (not sure of those values).
Size the file at 640X480 (not sure of the actual dimensions so check the aspect) and leave the audio track the same. Wait (probably a very long time) for the export to complete.
You could test a few one minute "cuts" from the source to check your settings so you really don't waste a lot of time.

  • Format issue causing iBook navigation problems

    Hello!
I created an iBook for a client, but some of the default functions of an iBook aren’t working when it’s previewed on iPad. My question is: since the file format seems to be the issue, what can be done to alleviate it?
    Problems
When previewing the iBook on the iPad...
Framing features such as navigation bar, book info, bookmark tool, etc. are missing
The pages lack animated page turns
Right and left page edge riffles are missing
When the iPad is turned vertically…
Pages scroll top to bottom instead of left to right as they should
    All images disappear
Basically, the iBooks works mostly well in landscape mode but not so much in portrait mode. The client checked other iBooks to compare and the iBook I created is the only one with problems with the interface functions.
Steps Taken To Save & Preview File
Saved the iBook file as an IBA file. I also Exported it as an iBooks file.
Sent IBA and iBooks files to the client to preview on his iPad (I don’t have one so I can’t preview it myself).
The client opened the IBA file using iBooks Author then clicked the “Preview” button.
The IBA file cross-loads to the iPad and the problems can be seen.
The client also attempted to load the IBA and iBooks files on the Book Proofer application (this application does accept IBA and iBooks files), but that didn't work either. The client told me that are some file format issues unrelated to content, leading me to believe that it's a format issue.
    Technical Specifications
iBook Author version I used to create iBook
    1.1 (the latest)
iBooks version client used to preview iBook
    iBooks version 2.1.1 (April 16, 2012 release)
iPad version the iBook is being previewed on
    1st Generation 64GB iPad
File being used to preview on iPad
The IBA and iBooks files for the iBook
Could it be file format incompatibilities? Has anyone had this issue before? I hope the information I provided is useful. Any insight about these issues is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Catrina

Again, sorry, a 'Shared' .ibooks file has the same format as what users download from the store.
You don't need to be in the store to circulate that file. 'private' as defined depends on you. Email that file if possible and/or put it on your own server/dropbox and share the link to trusted individuals.
If you're sending the .iba file to someone that then uses it in iBA, they need to use the 'Shared' menu to generate an .ibooks file, then drop that into iTunes and sync to their device.

  • Are there different formats for the iBooks reader?

I created a picture book, but when it's opened in iBooks, it displays each page as a small image on the "pages" of the book. I opened my file in Cloud Reader (for comic books) and it's displayed perfectly, with the pages filling up the screen. Can iBooks do this, or is the "book" display the only format?

  • Disc won't play -  format wrong

    Hi
I'm trying to play DVDs on my MacBook Pro however the disk doesn't play it doesn't even mount.
When I check Disk Utility it shows the format as Windows NTFS 3G.
If I try the same disk on another macbook it shows as Universal Disk Format and plays fine.  How do I fix this??

    What could this be?
It could be one of several things (or a combination thereof). A dirty lens on the set top dvd player for example. When is the last time you used a quality Maxell or 3M dvd lens cleaner kit? Avoid cheapy kits since they can cause more issues than they resolve.
It could be the media itself.
It could be that you need to lower the burn speed to make the media more readable to this particular set top DVD Player.
It could be that your set top player is a bit dated and refuses to play newer media/s.
Best to take your finished iDvd to a store that sells these DVD Players and try it out on several machines. See if it still happens on other players as well.
Btw, please tell me you are not using Memorex or TDK. I recommend Verbatim or Maxell (your choice) while troubleshooting on this iDvd Forum.

  • Formatting issues in iBooks on the iPad

    Hello,
I'm creating iBooks to publish on the iBookstore, but am having some formatting issues, or so I think at least.
I have already created one iBook (http://itunes.apple.com/gb/book/id387336687, apologies for the morbid subject matter), which I tested on my iPhone (iOS 4.0) before publishing, and everything appeared correctly. Since then I've purchased an iPad, and have noticed that some of the formatting, namely text alignment, has lost it's formatting. This formatting issue only seems to effect the text, as all images look fine.
I'm creating the iBooks in InDesign CS5 and Sigil, of which I've checked the CSS and everything seems correct.
I'm wondering whether this is an issue with the current iPad iOS, and will be fixed once iOS 4.2 is released. But if anyone can shed some light on why this might be occurring, it would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks

I don't think anyone knows. It could even create a new set of issues by disabling many of the hacks floating around on blogs.
But if anyone can shed some light on why this might be occurring, it would be much appreciated.
Typical iBooks CSS issues coupled with overly complex InDesign source. I took a different route and reformatted my source into super-simple XML and then generated my ePub from that. I still have all the same iBooks and CSS issues, but I am in complete control of my content.
It is always best to test books on the target device. That shouldn't be a problem now that you have an iPad. However, if you are making decent money, it might be a good idea to keep one iPad on 3.2.2 for testing. That would be the ideal. I don't see the iPhone as being a really big iBooks market. I would focus on testing on the iPad.

  • Satellite M30 - DVD Playing Format

Can any one advise me if there is software available so I can play Video CD / PAL & NTSC on my laptop.. Though, could anyone advise if a change in the settings will automatically allow me to play these types of formats..

    Hi,
I'm not the best multimedia checker, but as far as I know a normal DVD Player software like WinDVD should decode these formats!
WinDVD is available at your Tools&Utlities CD or Add. Software CD.

  • Why don't some audio files play back in enhanced iBook?

I recently bought an enhanced iBook in iTunes for my iPad and most of the audio files play.  A few do not when I click on them. The player goes blank (disappears) and nothing happens. Does anyone have a solution?

In iTunes, select all the songs/files you want to stay where they are.
    Right click - get info.
Tick *Remember position* and set it Yes.
You can do individual songs or a bunch at once.

  • Cannot play embedded video in ibook

    Hi All
I downloaded an iBook - the latest Max Hastings - that includes embedded videos.  However on my iPad2 although the book is readable where there should be videos to play it is replaced with text saying 'Your device does not support this embedded video'  I have tried deleting and downloading again and it is also the same on my iPhone5. However, someone else on the iTunes website has said it plays fine on his device.   I am going to wait for ios7 to see if it works with this.  Any other ideas?  Anyone experienced this before with iBooks?
    Thank you

Just noticed that iTunes have updated the book and it now works as advertised.

I have several music videos saved as Quick Time files, but my iPod is not recognizing them, or downloading them? any suggestions???

Do you have a Video iPod and if you do you need to
convert all your video to a format that your iPod
understands. I believe that the tool you need is
    built right into iTunes 6.0.3
Thanks for the replies...I do have the new video ipod. Is the tool that you are referring to the "convert to AAC" option? I've tried it....but keep gettin some -50 error message? ( I am using 6.0.3 by the way) thanks again for the help.
