Hi,
I just migrate from oracle 8.1.7 to 9.2 running on Win2k server.
I have 3 databases on the same server. Currently I can only use the OEM to admin. one database.
I can see all databases when launch the console in standalone mode, but only one through Oracle Management server mode.
1)Is there a way to add additional db to the same node?
2)If each node only allow one DB, How do I add additional node to the same repository, on the same server?
Your help greatly appreciated.
ThanksThis is what you need to do in addition to what the other guys told you.
1. If DB has same name and port then you can not add
2. To force discoverery go to $HOME/network/admin and there are two files like this "snmp_rw" one is input and another is output.
3. Edit the input file and include your missing database entries. -
Hi,
Can any one please help me How to manually create 11.2.0.2 standalone physical standby database from 2 node RAC (11.2.0.2) database which is running in RHEL5 and ASM plugged in.
DB : 11.2.0.2
OS : RHEL5
RMAN duplicate is causing problem with network and we decided to go for manual creation of the same.
Thanks in Advance..Hi;
Can any one please help me How to manually create 11.2.0.2 standalone physical standby database from 2 node RAC (11.2.0.2) database which is running in RHEL5 and ASM plugged in.
DB : 11.2.0.2

1. Used source oracle_home on standby server
2. Created new asm instance and use same naming
3. I took RMAN full backup on source and move it to target
4. I edit initora file remove RAC setting and restore db(also edited listener file)

Logical and Physical Standby on same Node
Is it possible to have a logical and physical standby database for a primary database on the same node (i.e. primary on NodeA, logical and physical database of primary on NodeB)?
Will there be any conflicts with data guard broker with this configuration or any problems I may encounter?From a technical point of view this is possible. Your standby node should be powerful enough to handle 2 instances. For even higher availability 3 dedicated nodes would be better. When Node B is down, both physical and logical standby are also down.

Can we have Multiple Instance on same Node in Oracle 10g RAC
Hi All,
I am planning to implement the RAC in Oracle 10g.Before that i have one doubt regarding RAC.
My question is "Can we create multiple Instance on Same node(Server) ?"
is it possible.
Any ideas or thoughts would be apperciable.
Thanks in Advance.
AnwarThis is where it is important to keep the separation between 'database' and 'instance'.
A database is the set of files that contains the data (and the redo, control files, etc). A database does nothing by itself, other than take up lots of disk space.
An instance is theCPU cycles (running software) and the memory to control the database.
In Oracle RAC, you can have as many instances controlling one database [at the same time] as you want (within reason). Each instance must be able to access the disk(s) that contains the database.
These multiple instances can be on the same computer (effectively taking up a lot of server memory and CPU for nothing) or they can be on separate computers.
If they are on separate computers, the disk subsystems must be able to be shared across computers - this is occasionally done using operating system clusterware and is the main reason why clusterware is required at all. (This is also the toughest part of the pre-requisites in setting up a RAC and is very vendor dependent unless you use ASM.)
These instances need a communication connection to coordinate their work (usually a separate network card for each computer) so they do not corrupt the disk when they are trying to access the same file, and possibly the same block, at the same time.
In a RAC configuration, instances can be added, started, running, stopped and removed independent of each other (allowing a lot of high availability) or can be started and stopped as a group.
Each instance gets it's own SID, which is in no way any different than a non-RAC SID. It's just the name of a service that can be invoked. The neat thing is that the SID
a) helps the DBA keep things straight by lettiung us talk about 'instance A' (the Oracle software to be running over on computer A) vs 'instance B' when starting, stopping and managing;
b) helps the application by providing targets that can be listed in the TNSNAMES.ORA [against one service alias], which is used by ORacle Networking to provide automated load balance or failover (instance/SID a is not available, I guess I'll try the next in the list)
Hope that helps the concept level a bit. -
Hi.
I would like to know if it's possible to have two database in different versions (9i and 10g) in the same nodes.
In this case, I suppose that I have to install the tow clusterware, one for 9i and another one for 10g, haven't I?
Thanks!Hi,
both your assumptions are correct.
You can have a 9i RAC database and a 10g one both in the same cluster. However, you would need to have 10g Clusterware and another cluster software for the 9i RAC. On Linux and Windows Oracle would use the Oracle Cluster Manager (CM) for the 9i RAC, on all other platforms you would need to get a third party cluster software for the 9i RAC database, since the 10g Clusterware cannot serve as the underlying cluster software for the 9i RAC database. Nevertheless, the 10g Clusterware GSD would be used to manage the 9i RAC database in those combinations.
Thanks. -
12.1.3 EBS single node 11.2.0.3 database to 2 node RAC with ASM
Hi,
We are planning to convert single node local/ordinary file system 11.2.0.3 database to 2 node RAC with ASM.
Please help me in creating the roadmap for the same.
e.g
1. Create the shared raw file system
2. Create diskgroup for ASM
3.. Convert the local file system to ASM first
etc, etc
This is the first big task hence need expert guidance.Please refer to:

Restore RMAN Backup in Different Database on Same RAC
We have 11gR2 2 node RAC on Linux. ASM and OMF is used for database. The database on it is backedup using RMAN.
We want to test the RMAN backup by restoring it to a new database on same server.
Can someone guide me to steps on how this can be achieved. I'm afraid this should not affect the actual database.
Thanks a lot.Hi,
Yes, this can be done without disturbing your source db. Need more information on your DB structure (datafile asm diskgroups), all you need to do is restore as single node and convert to rac, since you want to test rman restore, you can restore to single node to prove your RMAN backups are intact.
Changes in init.ora
==============
db_file_name_convert= ("source dir structure","target dir structure")
log_file_name_convert=("source dir structure","target dir structure")
cluster_database=false
event="10298 trace name context forever, level 32"
_no_recovery_through_resetlogs=TRUE
Set new database sid (export ORACLE_SID=NEW_SID)
sql>startup nomount;
rman auxiliary /
rman>duplicate database to "NEW_SID" backup location "Your RMAN Backup location";
The above are very high level general steps, please do take other steps into consideration as per your environment. -
Upgradation of Primary (RAC) two node database and single node standby DB
We have our primary setup in Oracle RAC in 10g R2 (10.2.0.1.0) in HP UX 11i 64bit (PA RISC). It is a two node RAC.
And we have a single node standby database (DR).
Both the primary and standby database are existing in 10.2.0.1.0
We need to upgrade the primary and standby database from 10.2.0.1.0 to 10.2.0.4.0
Am planning to go through the DBUA method for upgrading the database.
I like to know is there any special cases for upgrading both the primary and standby database.
since as i mentioned i will upgrade the database through dbua method, and if i upgrade my standby database as same as primary,
will it forcefully open the database, because while we upgrade the database through dbua it will open the database at the end of installation.
Is it possible to upgrade the standby database with DBUA method even when my standby database is in Mount state.
I will be helpfull if anyone has done this earlier, are there any know issues and is there any good document which i can refer.
with regards
A.Aravindhi,
thanks for your reply, and i was following the document.
I like to know that is it mandatory to create a new Oracle Home for upgrading from 10.2.0.1.0 to 10.2.0.4.0
or i can proceed the installation of software in the same oracle home.
I will list out my action plan, please correct me if am wrong,
In Primary RAC,
a) Shutdown the database
b) Shutdown the asm instance
c) Stop the nodeapps services
d) Stop the cluster ready services.
e) Stop the enterprise manager
f) Stop the isqlplus
In Standby single node database,
1)Cancel the managed Recovery process
2) shutdown the database
3) Shutdown the asm instance.
PATCHING Process
g) Apply the oracle clusterware patch 10.2.0.4.0 in the same old existing ORA_CRS_HOME
h) Apply the oracle database software patch 10.2.0.4.0 in the same old existing ORACLE_HOME
Note: In my case both the ORACLE_HOME and ASM_HOME are in the same location.
i) Execute dbua to update the database in the primary database.
j) Apply the 10.2.0.4.0 patch in standby database ORACLE_HOME where as ORACLE_HOME and ASM_HOME are in the same location
k) Copy the recently generated archive logs from primary to standby manually and apply in standby database.
l) Mount the database in standby
m) Start the Managed recovery process.

Compare Table Data on 2 different databases having same schema
I need to compare data in all the tables in 2 different databases having same schema.
If there is any difference in data in any table on Database1 and Database2 then I need to update/insert/delete the rows in my table in Database2.
So Database1 is my source database and Database2 is my sync database. I cannot use expdp tables as I am not having sufficient privileges to the database server.
Also I cannot drop and recreate the tables as they are huge.
Can anyone please guide me how to compare data and to write a script to comapre the changes in say Database1.Table1 and Database2.Table1 and then accordingly do inserts/updates/deleted on Database2.Table1?
ThanksKarthick_Arp wrote:
Do you have a DBLink? If youes you can do this.
1. Login into the Database-2 and run this code.
begin
for i in (select table_name from user_tables)
loop
execute immediate 'truncate table ' || i.table_name;
end loop;
end;This will empty all the tables in your Database-2. Now what you need is to just populate the data from Database-1This might result in error, if any of the tables have referential integrity on them.
From 10g documentation :
Restrictions on Truncating Tables
You cannot individually truncate a table that is part of a cluster. You must either truncate the cluster, delete all rows from the table, or drop and re-create the table.
You cannot truncate the parent table of an enabled referential integrity constraint. You must disable the constraint before truncating the table. An exception is that you can truncate the table if the integrity constraint is self-referential.
If a domain index is defined on table, then neither the index nor any index partitions can be marked IN_PROGRESS.I would go for normal MERGE. Also change the cursor to select table names by first modifying the child tables and then the parent table. -
CRS Install hostname being used by more than once for the same node.
Hi, we're installing The Oracle Clusterware and on the Cluster Configuration screen of the universal Installer (the one were you specify the clustername and clusternodes) we get the following error message in a dialog box when the next button is clicked:
"You must enter unique values for the public node name, the private node name and the virtual hostname for all nodes in the cluster. The name, node1, that you entered is being used by more than once for the same node."
Has anyone experienced this error message before and know what the cause is?
Could it be a problem with the /etc/hosts file?
Thanks in advance,
MMake sure you allocate separate IP addresses on your network for the VIP addresses on each RAC node (this is not the same as the machine IP already configured on the OS).
Also, the installer may complain if your private and public IPs are configured under the same subnet.
Finally, as mentioned before, check that name resolution for all the IPs to be used. On all RAC nodes, your /etc/hosts file should be configured with:
- public name and IP addresses of ALL nodes
- private name and IP addresses of ALL nodes
- VIP name and IP addresses of ALL nodes
Hope that helps

Creation of Standby database on same host
Hi All,
I am using oracle 9.2.0.1.0 on windows XP machine.
*I want to create the standby database for my primary database on same machine.
But both tha data base is heaving diff instance as well as the diff database name say "ASHU" for primary & "TEST" for standby database.
I took the backup of all datafile and copied it in the standby location.
Generate the standby control file also and copied to the standby location.
But when i am going to start the standby database it is giving the below error:

You do not change the dbname of the physical standby database. They always must have the same name as the primary.
Here is a snippet from my standby initialization file for a 9i installation. Notice the parameter LOCK_NAME_SPACE that was replaced in 10g with DB_UNIQUE_NAME
db_file_name_convert=('E:\PRIMA','E:\PHYST')
db_name='PRIMA'
instance_name='PHYST'
service_names='PHYST'
lock_name_space='PHYST'
log_archive_dest_1='LOCATION=E:\PHYST\ARCHIVE'
log_archive_start=TRUE
log_archive_format='%t_%s.arc'
log_file_name_convert=('E:\PRIMA','E:\PHYST')Kind regards

Community,
I have a problem with my iphone 4. Every few months my battery starts draining within a few hours. I have tried all kinds of battery saving tips, but they don't help. When i go to the settings/general/usage is can see that the time for Usage and Stand-by are the same, so my phone is fully on all the time this explains the draining. But in reallity i turn my phone to stand-by most of the time, i mean the screen is black and all???
The first and second time a had this problem, both a few months a part, i restored my phone and it was solved. This time i restored my phone but this did not help!! And restoring my phone every two months is not my preferd way of solving this problem.
Does anybody have an idea on how to solve this problem? can anybody help me?
best regards,
MerijnRestoring is the answer. It sounds as if there is a rogue process constantly draining your battery.
The issue you face is that, if you restore your backup thereafter, you risk the problem coming straight back with your files.
Store your files individually and it is time to start fresh. -

Thanks, Your help and guide will appreciated very much.Hello,
The directory for the creation of the logfiles does not exist, from the error:
RMAN-06136: ORACLE error from auxiliary database: ORA-00344: unable to re-create online log '/db/app/oracle/product/9.2.0.5/dbs/ /db
/redolog.001/catalog1/catalog1_log1.rdo'
ORA-27040: skgfrcre: create error, unable to create file
HP-UX Error: 2: No such file or directoryI.e., there is no such directory as *'/db/app/oracle/product/9.2.0.5/dbs/ /db/redolog.001/catalog1/catalog1_log1.rdo'*
Your db_recovery_file_dest parameter may be set here, therefore change this:
'/db/redolog.001/catalog1/catalog1_log1.rdo' size 5m,
' /db/redolog.003/catalog1/catalog1_log2.rdo' size 5m,
' /db/redolog.002/catalog1/catalog1_log3.rdo' size 5m;To this:
'catalog1_log1.rdo' size 5m,
'catalog1_log2.rdo' size 5m,
'catalog1_log3.rdo' size 5m;And try again. -

C:\> set PATH=%ORACLE_HOME%\bin;%PATH%
C:\> lsnrctl start
wait up to a minute, then execute
