Standard or convention for the "denigrated" marker?

Hello,
Is there a standard (JLS, Javadoc specs,...), or convention (Java tutorial, Javadoc manual,...) that specifies the meaning of the term "denigrated" as used to document a part of a Java API?
While looking for something in the java.security.cert package, I stumbled on [this method|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/security/cert/X509Certificate.html#getSubjectDN%28%29] , whose Javadoc contains this intriguing comment:
public abstract Principal getSubjectDN()
Denigrated, replaced by [getSubjectX500Principal()|http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/security/cert/X509Certificate.html#getSubjectX500Principal()] . This method returns the...
It's the first time I've met the term Denigrated in the API Javadoc. To make things clear, it's denigrated, not deprecated, in particular the method's javadoc has no @deprecated tag nor @Deprecated annotation, and the compiler doesn't flinch when compiling a call to this method.
A quick search session turned out:
- an oldish topic " [Difference between "deprecated" and "denigrated"|http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=256&threadID=498651] " in the Java Programming forum archive, which turned slightly off-topic (surprise, surprise) without concluding on whether this is a standard term or not
- one bug entry[5008142|http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=5008142] on this very method getSubjectDN(...) and a few companion methods too, requesting that the +@deprecated+ tag be used instead, but the evaluation turns the request down without commenting on what "denigrated" formally means.
- another bug entry [6428760|http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6428760] requested to add a standard annotation @Denigrated to differentiate from @Deprecated cases. The request is turned down as well for simplicity's sake, but both the requester and evaluator seem to agree on a conventional meaning for "denigrated" in the scope of Java API.
So again, my question is, since these people seem to share a common definition of "denigrated", is there an authoritative source that specifies this meaning in this context?
I'm not looking for the definition of the english word, nor for the difference between deprecated and denigrated, which are well highlighted already in the links above.
Also, I haven't found any other occurrence of this wording outside of the java.security.cert package, maybe it was just a specific team's fad...

So again, my question is, since these people seem to share a common definition of "denigrated", is there an authoritative source that specifies this meaning in this context? As you may have seen in reply #2 I found out that there actually is an undergoing proposal to add a formal tag of this flavour; although not completed (and probably not even "decided"), this justifies that at least the vocabulary is shared by various people. Which answers my question (I was afraid I had missed some spec or convention).
Might help to keep in mind that neither the java language nor the Java API follow a very strict way of handling specifications. It is more of a "good enough".I think I see what you mean as far as the API's documentation goes, and for most purposes I find it good enough indeed (in the case at hand I was curious to know about the potential spec, but the doc intent was very clear nonetheless).
On the other hand I don't see what you mean by "the Java language (...) [doesn't] follow a very strict way of handling specification".
J.
P.S.: I suspect my latest remark might lead this thread to a very different direction... :o)

  • Conventions for the whole project

We have coding conventions for Java language. But is there any conventions (or best practices) defined for a whole Java project. Like store all your source files in "src" folder, store your jar files in "lib" folder, have your binary files named as "all-lower-case.sh" and store them in "project/bin", etc. These may not be the case with every Java project on the planet, but has anyone blogged about these "guidelines"? If you have a tip or two, or if you had come across a blog or a related post regarding this, please do share.
    Thanks!

We had formed a SIG before and came up with our own standards. But it was totally different from what most of the industry does. So I am just looking for a basis on which we can tweak. I am looking forward for the standard set of guidelines that are already followed which I am not aware. For example, we were storing our documentation under a directory called "docs". But throughout the industry, the standard practice is to store under "doc" (singular form). Another example I can think of is the jar file naming convention. We were naming our jars as ourApplication.jar, whereas I realized over a period of time that the jar files are named as our-application-1.0.3.jar
From where did the others learn about these guidelines? I would be happy to read them and follow.

  • SAP Audit Management - standard workflow available for the audit component?

    Hi,
Is there any standard workflow setup available in SAP for any of the audit components, as part of Audit Management?
I tried doing a Where-Used list for BO's BUS20300 and BUS20350, but could not find any workflow templates or tasks.

    Hi,
We dont have any standard workflow templates for SAP AM. You can also verify it under PLM_AUDIT package-business engineering.
We delegated the AM BOs and developed custom workflows to achieve our functionality.

  • Error while uploading standard text files for the Global rule set

    Hi all,
As part of Post Installation Activities we have uploaded standard text files for business process, functions, risks and rule set obtained with the installable Software.
While uploading the text files we have uploaded the Basis Functions Authorizations first and then R/3 text files.
When we checked no actions are appearing in the rule architect under respective functions except for the BASIS Module.
Is this because we have uploaded the Basis functions before the R/3 text files? If yes, how to replace the Basis with the R/3 ones.
We tried to replace the Basis function authorizations by re-uploading the R/3 text files again but we got the below error message u201CORA-00001:unique constraint (SAPSR3DB.SYS_C004479) violatedu201D
Can somebody please help in this regard how to get the standard rule set in our system?
    Thanks and Best Regards,
    Srihari.K

    Hi Sri,
you should upload first the static text files and the authorization objects first and then the GRC standard rule set files following the instructions of the SAP Configuration Guide available in Service Market Place under http://service.sap.com/instguides .
The GRC standard rule set contains files named Basis_functions_action.txt and R3_function_action.txt. The first one contains ONLY function definitions in terms of transcation codes for basis only, whereas the second one contains functions definition for basis AND ERP modules. The same holds for the *_function_permission.txt files. There are also function definition files for other SAP solutions such as APO, CRM, HR  etc.
You can open a customer message and request a deletion script for the rule sets files you have uploaded already. After their application of this script all rule set data will be deleted from your database. If you have uploaded static text and authorization files correctly, you can then upload the GRC standard rule set files as needed again.
    best regards,
    Frank

  • What settings do I use to back button focus set up for the d5 mark 3? TIA

    5D Mark 3
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

When you activate the menu, scroll over (using the dial on the front of the camera) to the orange "C.Fn2: Disp./Operation" menu. (that's the icon of a camera that has a index marks for a light meter below it -- right of the wrench icon, left of the star icon.)
Each of those menu's on the 5D III have multiple pages.  It's the 2nd page (the 2nd dot from the left) that has the category for "Custom Controls".  Highlight that (using the dial on the back this time) and click the 'set' button.
That brings up a menu showing each of the major controls on the back of the camera and what they do.  Highlight the icon for the shutter button (this only changes the behavior of a half-press) and change it from "Metering and AF start" to just "Metering start".
The "AF-ON" button (on the back of your camera) is likely already set to "Metering and AF start" (I believe that's the factory default.)
So you're not so much enable back-button focus (which is already probably active)... you're more "disabling" the focus when  the shutter button is pressed half-way.
    Good luck

  • Can I download a RAW converter for the 5D Mark lll ?

    Can

The Adobe Camera Raw plug-in version 7.1, released at the end of May, supports the Canon 5D Mark III.
There are download links for ACR 7.1 on the Adobe Downloads page:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/ and the Downloads/Updates page: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/
The ACR 7.1 update only applies to Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop Elements 11 that was just released, today, and also available from the downloads page and elsewhere.
If you are using an older version of those products then you will need to pay for an upgrade it to use the ACR 7.1 update.
Alternatively, you may use the latest version of the Adobe DNG Converter to convert your raw files into DNG files that will be supported by older versions of the ACR plug-in.

  • Camera profile Adobe Standard for Canon 7D Mark II

    Hi,
I am using the latest LR 5.7.1 with a Canon 7D Mark II.
When using the Adobe Standard camera profile I found the colors to be very muted compared to the Camera Standard or Camera Faithful profiles.
In the past, I used the Adobe Standard profile for all the photos that I took with my old Canon 7D.
The results were always rather similar in color saturation to the Camera standard profile.
But the final results from Adobe Standard were superior to the standard Canon profiles, but this seems to be no longer the case for the 7D Mark II.
Has anyone else also seen this effect ?

Would it really do any good for Adobe to communicate an official release date? If they didn't meet that date then you would just call Adobe a liar. Adobe has users from several different companies waiting for support. And whether you believe it or not, there is no providing of specs from camera makers. They don't care whether Adobe Camera Raw supports the camera. Adobe is just another company to them. Adobe has to purchase each camera and then create the profiles for it. The real solution? Camera makers, agree on a common file format. If you won't do that, then YOU take the blame for this delay that happens about four times every year.
Actually, it would help, Jim. It does not have to be exact... it would help to know "this quarter" or "by the end of the year" or "mid-December". It would help because I could decide whether to find a workaround patch, or switch to a different system.
The camera makers are more than willing to provide that info, but according to a contact at Canon USA, in 2008 Adobe changed the game and decided to be more proprietary with their compatibility, presumably so that people would be required to upgrade their software every year just to be able to use new camera technology. It was Adobe's decision, and they could easily decide to play nice. But it is an unfair characterization to say that the camera makers don't care if Adobe supports their camera. That is just a silly assertion.
It comes down to he said - she said, and the two companies are simply pointing fingers at each other. Neither you nor I know the absolute truth about who is right... I only know that I am dissatisfied with Adobe's lack of communication, and slow response when compared to other companies, larger and smaller.

  • Can I customize the standard columns for the search results (list view) specifically?

When searching for emails I would like to adjust the columns in the search results list view, e.g. add the sender's address. This I would like to save as standard columns specifically for the search results list view, since in other contexts I do not need it. However, I can only set standard columns for existing folders, not for the context of "search results".

    re :When searching for emails
    what method are you using?
Are you talking about 'Quick filter' or 'Global Search' or via 'Edit' > 'Find' > 'Search Messages' ?
'''If you used the Global Search:'''
Typed in a word: eg: Birthday and selected 'Messages mentioning birthday'
Then a search is returned in a new tab.
You click on 'open email as list' - to open in a new tab.
Is this the search results list view that you are refering to?
    the default columns should be:
    From, Subject, Date, Location
If you only want to see eg: From and Date
click on the icon 'select columns to display' located to far right of header column name.
    deselect Subject and Location
next time you run a global search then only those columns appear in the 'open email as list' view.
'''If via 'Edit' > 'Find' > 'Search Messages' ?'''
enter search parameters and click on 'Search'
Is this the search results list view that you are refering to?
    the default columns should be:
    From, Subject, Date, Location
Subject and Location cannot be edited.
Other column headers can be selected in the same way using the far right 'Select columns to display' icon.
Any column headers you select will not be remembered if you close and later peform another search.
If you click on 'Save as Search folder'
This will create a folder in your Folder Pane and you can select column(s) you wish to display.
Any Column headers you choose to display are selected for that saved search folder.
The column headers only change if you select to reset defaults on that folder or from another folder you select to apply to other folders for either the search folder or all folders in the account.
    '''If using Quick Filter:'''
The QuickFilter type of search is done on the folder that is selected.
You are still in the same folder, it has simply ''filtered'' what it is displaying, so it will obviously still display the same column headers.

  • Standard Cost Estimate for Subcontracting

    Dear Sir / Madam,
We are in the process of migrating from our normal R/3 operations for Production Planning to Execution inclusive of Costing of materials by using iPPE functionality for repetitive scenario. We have our BOMs for painted body currently in R/3. The painted body falls under subcontracting scenario.
In this scenario the body in white produced from our bodyshop is sent out to the subcontractor along with certain paint items and is received as painted body and consumption of the body in white and the paint items sent needs to be shown during the goods receipt of painted body.
For this we have maintained the BOM for the painted body in iPPE. Also in the costing variant "ZD01" in order to arrive at Standard cost (CK11N) for the painted body we have maintained the following settings for Valuation variant for subcontracting :
    Priority     Strategy Sequence
    1          Net Quotation Price
2          Effective Price from Purchase Order
While running CK11N for the material (painted body) we are receiving the following message
Message no. 28501 : Error in dependency processing: condition 0000062388 is empty
We wanted to verify whether the message raised is normal or would it have any adverse impact.
