Standard vs Enterprise different?

I'm trying to find out how to calculate the maximum
connection/capability of a server in real life.
Let's say, I've a dual xeon with 4GB ram + HD RAID5 or SAS...
WIN or LINUX + CF8 32 or 64 Bit.
For your experience, in a company that has connection around
50 users. Is this enough for that hardware + CF8 Standard Edition?
Then when I should consider Enterprise version? One of my
customer has ~200 users, should I change hardware + version of CF?
The application is based on Flex + CF. Not much PDF
generation. Usually use Transfer-ORM, ColdSpring, + PostgreSQL
backend.
I've this problem because I don't have enough experience for
CF server. Please someone, guide me how to choose between Standard
& Enterprise version.

I have seldom seen throughput or number of users as reasons
to choose
between standard and enterprise. They both will handle
considerable
load and numbers like 50 and 200 should be a drop in the
bucket for each
server depending on what type of heavy load tasks they may be
expected
to carry out.
I.E. a heavy processing application used by 10 users could
bring a
enterprise server to it's knees while a standard server could
easily
handle 10's of thousands of users on a well thought out and
properly
scaled application.
Factors you probably want to consider are features. Standard,
at this
time, is only 32 bit. So if you want to make use of 64 bit
hardware you
probably want to consider enterprise.
Enterprise allows multi-home and J2EE configurations.
Multi-home allows
for single box application isolation and roll over effects as
well as
the ability to make use of more memory then a single JVM can
access. A
bit under 2GB for a 32 bit installation. J2EE configuration
allows you
to use other Java Servers then the built-in JRun4.
Enterprise as more throughput for some tasks such as e-mail,
gateways
and such. Some of these features are single threaded on
standard while
they make full use of multi-thread capabilities in the
enterprise version.
My gut instinct from your original post is that Standard
would probably
be enough for you. But if you want to speak to somebody in
Adobe you
could provide real answers try one of these contacts.

  • Upgrade from standard to enterprise on a cluster.

    SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard
    Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard.
Two node Active/Passive Clustered, lets say NodeA is active and NodeB is passive.
Need to upgrade the edition only from standard to enterprise.
Want to understand if we need to apply the upgrade manually on both the nodes one by one
or Only we apply the upgrade only on the passive node and it will get applied to the active node by itself once we failover to the passive node. Lets say we first run the upgrade from the passive node NodeB and after the setup completes, we manually fail-over
from NodeA to NodeB. Once we fail-over, SQL Server will automatically apply the upgrade on the NodeA which is passive now. Any step by step documentation will be helpful.
**** All the links I checked till now look ambiguous to me *****
    Thankyou.

    Hi
Can't say I've done this but it's documented here:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc707783(v=sql.105).aspx
SQL Server in a clustered environment: Running
edition upgrade on one of the nodes of SQL Server cluster is sufficient. This node can be either active or passive, and the engine does not bring the resources offline during the Edition Upgrade. After the edition upgrade it is required to either restart the
SQL Server instance or failover to a different node.
Upgrading the passive and failing over will be sufficient.

Enterprise vs Standard : technical view
If you install Enterprise you must:
    - install Enterprise whith all the modules
    - apply the patch 8.1.5.0.1
(if all the modules weren't installed, the patch fails because
he tries to relink non installed products)
If you install Stardard you must:
    - install Standard
    - no patch required !
    Enterprise vs Standard : package
Standard is good enougth for a lot of purposes. It includes
TextRetrival, Java inside the database, etc.
With Enterprise, you can by additional products like Spatial
    data, Time Series, etc.
    Hope this helps,

  • Standard or enterprise program?

Alright so I'm finally trying to sign up for the iPhone developer program and am wondering what advantage the more expensive Enterprise Program might provide. Enterprise has 'In-house distribution' which means what exactly?
Interestingly, Enterprise lacks the app store. I want to be able to develop for the app store.
As always, any help is much appreciated.

I apologize, KT. I definitely do want to be friends and promise to behave. You did provide useful information for me and for that I am grateful. I was hoping for something a bit more concise and detailed though.
I have heard nightmarish stories about developers waiting 3 months for their apps to become available in the app store -- or waiting months only to be denied. I am in the process of retooling my coding skills a bit and would like to demonstrate the results of my coding efforts in a time frame much shorter than 3 months so that I can start on some paid contract work. I just can't wait 3 months to show my clients what I can do or I'll be homeless. That's why the distribution question is so important to me.
I have written an app or two and been delighted to see it running on my iPod touch, but that doesn't help unless I can show someone in person. This is not particularly helpful if a potential client is in San Francisco or New York. I need to be able to get an app onto someone else's iPhone remotely. I began to consider getting officially enrolled in the program as it is my understanding that I will gain access to 'invaluable developer resources' which might speed things along or help me better understand distribution.
I found it remarkable that the enrollment process asks you for an individual/company/enterprise decision (either $99 or $299) without providing a satisfactory explanation of the differences or links to any detailed information. Perhaps I'm over-careful, but I wonder about the differences in legal terms, accounting terms, and functionality terms. Maybe that extra $200 is worth it.
Anyways, it does indeed look like individual might be the right program for me, but I still wonder what the distribution process involves. This page:
    http://developer.apple.com/iphone/program/distribute.html
    says:
*The Standard and Enterprise Programs allow you to share your application with up to 100 other iPhone or iPod touch users with Ad Hoc distribution. Share your application through email or by posting it to a web site or server.*
That sounds promising and I think it may be what I want. I still wish I knew more.
The projects I hope to work on involve 1) porting an AMF3-based RPC framework to iPhone to enable multiplayer game development and 2) creating an RTMP client for iPhone to enable audio streaming from a Red5 or Flash Media server. If I can do either of those, I will be very very happy. If I can get work developing for iPhone, I will be ecstatic.

  • Standard or Enterprise

My company is thinking about upgrading to CF7 or 8 when it
comes out and I'm trying to figure out the difference between
standard and enterprise. The feature list is here:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/coldfusion/productinfo/product_editions/
but most of it has to do with multi-threaded architecture and I'm
not sure where that will be beneficial aside from speed? We only
have one application that currently runs on two servers and we will
probably have the same set up when we upgrade. We have a separate
Sun server for our Oracle 8i DB. We also only have a few thousand
    (<10k) users.
I've looked at some of the other discussions, but they don't
seem to address what I'm looking at, though we do use Oracle and
    paross1 said (
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=1&catid=3&threadid=11 61180)
that the Standard edition was lacking, but that was June of last
year, so maybe this will be fixed in other versions (big maybe)?
What are your experiences and recommendations? Thanks!

Ugh! I found that the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle drivers
caused me lots of problems when I was on Oracle 8, and I found
Oracle's ODBC drivers much less "buggy", at least when using CF
4.5. You might try downloading the CF 7 developer version and set
up your Oracle 8 client and ODBC drivers to see how it works.
However, I just looked on the Oracle OTN site at
    OracleODBC
Drivers for Windows and it appears that they no longer list
drivers for any db version below 9.0.1.... bummer. (I'm surprised
that you are still using Oracle 8, since Oracle hasn't supported it
for years, and it is going to get harder and harder to find
    connectivity support.)
    Anyway, good luck.

  • Oracle 11g standard vs enterprise

    hi,
Is there a way I can compare the features between 11g standard vs enterprise version. Currently we have an enterprise version installed . But we are thinking to downgrade it to standard edition due to the licensing cost.

t I am only interested to audit the "SELECT" statements. The whole idea is to see , apart from the schema owner , who else including dba or users with dba privileges are issuing select statements against the salary and other sensitive data. Any thoughts about that , in standard edition ?Oracle exposes no triggers at the SELECT level to which we can attach such an audit function.
So, the only option you have is to replace auditing with prevention.
At least with ordinary users, this can be done quite easily with VIEWs. Have two views on your sensitive tables, one which excludes the columns you're worried about and one which includes them. Grant privileges on each view accordingly. This may necessitate some rewriting of your application. A variation on this approach would be to have one view, which programmatically obfuscates the values in the sensitive columns depending on a value stored in a user-defined CONTEXT.
Of course, this won't keep out the privileged users. Disable CREATE SESSION for the schema owner: nobody should be using that account in production.
But as for your DBAs ... You'll just have to take some of the money you save from the Enterprise Edition licenses and pay them more, to keep them honest. Let's face it, as you're springing for Audit Vault right now, your DBAs can hack the audit trail anyway, and you'll never know.
    Cheers, APC

  • Differences in 10g Standard and Enterprise Editions

I found on the matrix of items enabled in 10g standard and enterprise edition that the standard edition does not have Oracle Data Guard, but it does have standby database. For a standard edition database with a standby database configured (manually since the GUI isn't available in STD either), do you have to manually copy the log files to the standby server, or will this automatically be done using standard edition?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Can you use a standby database using standard edition?

  • Standard cost with different dimentions

    Hi,
We have a scenario where one material can be sold at different length.
    Ex:  Mat A is wire
    1 mr std price $2
    2 Mr std price $5
    3 mr std price $6
    etc., till 10 mtr
user wants to have same material number but to handle the all the prices in standard price at different lengths.
I recommended that this is not possible with SAP so go with different materialnumbers with different lengths.
Is that correct or am i missing something from functionality, can any one help.

    Hi,
The product is not manufactured its procured from vendor.
If the customer places an order for 5 mt then the the same will bought from vendor and sell to customer.
    No inhouse manufacturing or assembling
we recommended to use the different material code for different length.
Just want to confir if thats correct or we can we use one material code for all lenghts.
if we use Variant pricing that will help Sales order process but standard cost in material cannot be updated using variant pricing.

  • SAP on Windows 2008 R2 Standard to Enterprise Edition

    Hello!
We are using SAP NetWeaver System running on Windows 2008 R2 Standard Edition (VM Ware).
We are planning to extend RAM size of this server up to 50GB.
Is there any possibilites for an Inplace Upgrade from Standard to Enterprise Edition?
    Thank you!

Actually, it is possible.  I haven't done it myself, but there is a tool, DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool), that supposedly supports in-place edition upgrades, i.e. exactly what you're describing.  It's talked about in Microsoft Technet at Upgrading Windows Server 2008 R2 without media - Server Core - Site Home - TechNet Blogs.  It's about the same thing as a "Windows Anytime Upgrade" that you see available in Windows 7 or 8, so no reinstall is necessary.
If I recall correctly this wasn't possible in earlier versions of Windows Server, and that's probably what Reagan is remembering.
Let us know how it goes!

    Matt
