Hi there,
I have one primary with one standby datagaurd setup. The standby got 24 hours behind, so we shutdown the standby and re-synced on a storage level, but almost immediately it started lagging behind and two days later it's 20 hours behind again. Please help,
The archive logs are diffrent sizes as well :

  • Logical standby database keeps displaying ORA-16768

    I have a logical standby database setup on a remote host to accept cascaded logs from a physical standby. Everything was working fine until yesterday when I get the above error and log apply services stopped. When I go into Grid Control to Data Guard I see the error and it displays the failed SQL statement which is a create index statement. I have the option of clicking the SKIP button. When I click SKIP it appears to have processed it as the error goes away but then a few minutes later the error comes back, log apply stops and the failed SQL statement is the same create index statement. I guess the Skip doesn't mean Skip, it means Retry... My question is how do I get past this? Logs have been piling up.

    SQL> ALTER DATABASE STOP LOGICAL STANDBY APPLY;
    Database altered.
    SQL> alter database start logical standby apply immediate;
    Database altered.
    SQL>
    And now I received this :
    ORA-16825: Fast-Start Failover and other errors or warnings detected for the database
    Cause: The broker has detected multiple errors or warnings for the database. At least one of the detected errors or warnings may prevent a Fast-Start Failover from occurring.
    Action: Check the StatusReport monitorable property of the database specified.
    What does it mean to check the status report.....
    I found this about monitorable status report !!

  • Why process 'timestenrepd' on the standby database keep consuming 600% CPU?

    Hi all, I have just created a empty active standby pair where there are 14 regular AWT cache groups.
    After call of ttRepStart on the standby database, it takes 600% CPU(24 cores CPU) all the time.
    There is no data in the cache groups and I found the error logs in the tterrors.log file:

    I can see the process 'timestenrepd' consumes 600%+ CPU all the time except for stopping the replication agent.

  • Physical Standby Database Lags Far Behind the Primary Database scenario

    Hi,
    Have anyone successfully implemented described in the Oracle Documentation following
    scenario?
    For me it does not work at all.
    After implementing all steps current_scn of standby database remains the same and when trying to push recovery using redo it asks for non-existing archived log which I can't restore on primary database as all backups containing that archived log already gone.
    The only option is to recreate standby database from backup again.

    Unfortunately documentation missed that important step of standby controlfile recreation.
    To my luck I was copying the whole backup to the standby server when found this link.

  • My Iphone keeps falling behind on time and dropping wifi?!

    My Iphone 5c keeps falling back with the time on both automatic and manual. It also keeps dropping the Wifi connection. I sent it to o2 for repair they said Issue was resolved after they flashed software but its still happening. Its not any apps on my phone as it happens when I set it up as a new phone and dont pull on the backup and when I use it with my backup on there. I have IOS 8.1.3

    i had this problem, i turned off imessage, turned off phone, turned on phone, turned on imessage and let it reactivate.

  • Issue on physical standby database

    I've a problem on standby database.
    I recently added a datafile on primary database, then I scp'ed the data file to physical standby database.On physical standby database I tried performing recovery.
    I get following message in my alert log
    WARNING! Recovering data file 88 from a fuzzy file. If not the current file
    it might be an online backup taken without entering the begin backup command.
    ORA-279 signalled during: ALTER DATABASE RECOVER standby database ...
    how can I fix this now.
    We keep physical standby database 2 day behind, and apply logs manually.
    Physical standby database is maintained manually.
    Could someone help me in getting out of this problem.

    Versus keeping it in manual mode, you can specify a time "delay" for the application of the logs:

    In some cases, you may want to create a time lag between the time when redo data is received from the primary site and when it is applied to the standby database. You can specify a time interval (in minutes) to protect against the application of corrupted or erroneous data to the standby database. When you set a DELAY interval, it does not delay the transport of the redo data to the standby database. Instead, the time lag you specify begins when the redo data is completely archived at the standby destination.
    Note:
    If you define a delay for a destination that has real-time apply enabled, the delay is ignored.
    Specifying a Time Delay
    You can set a time delay on primary and standby databases using the DELAY=minutes attribute of the LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n initialization parameter to delay applying archived redo log files to the standby database. By default, there is no time delay. If you specify the DELAY attribute without specifying a value, then the default delay interval is 30 minutes.
    Canceling a Time Delay
    You can cancel a specified delay interval as follows:
    For physical standby databases, use the NODELAY keyword of the RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE clause:

    Do you mean the backup on the primary side was not been done?No. Backups created at primary site are not available to the standby of course, so that wont see them.
    The standby database is left behind and the required archivelogs for recovery are not available anymore, and it doesnt know anything about the backups.
    - you can restore the archivelogs on primary site from backups then let the standby fetch and apply them - can take a lot of time
    - you can make the backups made at primary site available to the standby and register the backup pieces - can be problematic with 3rd party backup solutions

    I'm missing the steps you took renaming/moving the files on the primary.
    Since the location of datafiles is stored in the control file the controlfile of the standby might not know the new location yet.

  • Recover the standby database

    Hi, I have both primary and standby database in ASM and I need to recover the standby database as it's falling behind for too long. The steps I did are:
    1. backup full database on primary
    2. create a standby controlfile and copy to /tmp on the standby
    3. on the standby, RMAN>restore standby controlfile from '/tmp/std.ctl';
    4. RMAN>restore database;
    5. SQL>recover managed standby database disconnect;
    However, the recovery always shuts down and I get the error:

    What's wrong with my steps?

  • Rebuild standby database

    Good morning,
    I am stuck with my rebuild standby now. I am not sure what is wrong with what I am doing. My production database is 2 nodes RAC database and the db version is 10.2.0.4 using ASM (10.2.0.4) on Sun servers SunOS 5.10. The standby is in SunOS 5.10 and single node database. In this server we also have 3 other databases so all 4 databases share the same ASM in this server. Recently we upgraded the ASM home and other databases home from 10.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.5. Only this standby home stays in 10.2.0.4. We also use OMF and all database files are in ASM and archive logs are in ASM as well. The backups are in files system. After I upgrade the ASM I forgot bring up the standby instance/listener so it falls behind on the archive logs applying process. I am now trying to rebuild this standby. The first two times failed due to diskgroup space exhausted. So I deleted old standby data files from ASM. Then I got ORA-15055: unable to connect to ASM instance & ORA-00020: maximum number of processes () exceeded. I increased the processes parameter for ASM from 40 to 85. The last time refresh I got the following errors and I googled these errors online but have not got any useful info yet. Have anybody experienced this before?

    I do believe the version could be causing your issue. I have always used the exact same version without issue.
    I setup my standby for dup as follows:
    Same directory structure including the flash area.
    I copy the primary password file to the same directory on the standby.
    I defer the primary :
    alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2=defer;
    I create a temp int file for the standby with these set (I'm using Oracle 11)
    db_name
    control_files
    db_recovery_file_dest
    db_recovery_file_dest_size
    compatible
    db_block_size
    undo_tablespace
    undo_management
    undo_retention
    I backup the primary using
    RUN {
    allocate channel d1 type disk;

    I move the current days archive and this backup to the standby
    I start the standby use the temp init

    And I dupicate as follows:

    allocate auxiliary channel C2 device type disk;

    Assuming this flys I copy a pfile version of the primary init over and change it for standby and then create a new spfile if needed.
    Finally I enable

    And start redo apply on the standby and test

    There is no in-place upgrade process to move from 9i to 10g. You have to upgrade your primary and then reinstantiate your standby (using Oracle10g). You may like to keep your 9i standby in tact until your upgrade of 9i primary to 10g is completely successful.....just to ensure that you have a fast, easy and reliable fall-back plan.

    Dear Neerav999,
    If i would know your Oracle database version, i could give you a more detailed explanation but i will give it anyway;
    There are options that you can use for the Oracle Data Guard. Data Guard is used for replicating the primary database to the standby database via the archivelogs and/or with the redologs. You may not have a standby redolog for maximized performance protection level and it is not mandatory however you need to have standby redos for maximized availiability and protection, protection levels of the Oracle database.
    Starting from 11g, you can able to cancel the recovery process on standby site and open the standby database read only than (magic goes here) you can start the media recovery! The command list as follow for 11g;
    ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE CANCEL --> This command will cancel the MRP0 process and will stop the continuous media recovery
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN READ ONLY
    ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE [USING CURRENT LOG FILE] DISCONNECT FROM SESSION;
    --> Above command will start the media recovery process ON THE READ ONLY DATABASE!You can give it a try that one by creating a dummy table on primary and wait for one or two log switches and check back the standby database. You are going to see the table has been also created there.
    So answer to your eternal question! :)
    MRP process is there to fetch and request the archivelogs from the primary site. This process can be started with the below command;
    ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE DISCONNECT FROM SESSION;You may have a simple test of cource. Cancel the MRP process and switch some logfiles on primary site. Than rerun above command to restart the MRP process and check v$dataguard_status fixed view. You will see that MRP is going to try to fetch the missing archivelog files and will try to close down the gap between the primary and the standby database. Here let me show you another 11g feature of Data Guard.
    On 11g you can compress the redologs! What do you need to compress it? There is maybe the most threatning problem of the Data Guard is the connection itself. It should be fast and reliable. Otherwise the MRP process will fall behind and if you are running on maximum performance mode, it will also decrease the performance of the primary database and will hardly close the gap. You 11g Data Guard does is it compresses the log files in the fetching period. If its done with fetching and closed the gap than the normal transmission without the compression will continue to operate. Here is an example of redo compression parameter;
    alter system set log_archive_dest_n = 'service= ORCLSTBY
    LGWR ASYNC valid_for=(ONLINE_LOGFILES,PRIMARY_ROLE)
    db_unique_name=ORCLSTBY compression=enable'I have checked the link that you have given and its Oracle 10g but i have just written it to understand some real factors between the 10g Data Guard and the 11g Data Guard. There are also other changes but if you can go to the 11g New Features site you will see Arup Nanda's posts about it.
    If you are to use the standby redologs and it is called "Real Time Apply" and you can see it on v$dataguard_status fixed view. Here is the information from the online documentation;
    6.2.1 Using Real-Time Apply to Apply Redo Data Immediately
    If the real-time apply feature is enabled, log apply services can apply redo data as it is received, without waiting for the current standby redo log file to be archived. This results in faster switchover and failover times because the standby redo log files have been applied already to the standby database by the time the failover or switchover begins.
    Use the ALTER DATABASE statement to enable the real-time apply feature, as follows:
        *For physical standby databases, issue the ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE USING CURRENT LOGFILE statement.
        *For logical standby databases, issue the ALTER DATABASE START LOGICAL STANDBY APPLY IMMEDIATE statement.

    Hi all, I configured dataguard in my local system, i ve a few qsns (as i am new, ve patience)
    1) scn differs wrt primary in standby (i checked, 1day difference), how to make scn same?
    2)i created a table in primary, its not refelecting in standby, (below i ve pasted alertlog entries)

    SCN can be differ in standby and it can be behind to primary based on the backup you have restored. Of course by performing recovery you can synchronize standby with primary database.     How do I remove the foreign archive logs that are being sent to my logical standby database. I have files in the FRA of ASM going back weeks ago. I thought RMAN would delete them.
    I am doing hot backups of the databases to FRA for both databases. Using ASM, FRA, in a Data Guard environment.
    I am not backing up anything to tape yet.

    I am not talking about deleting the Archive logs files for the Logical database that it is creating, but the Standby archive log files being sent to the Logical Database after they have been applied.
