Standby recovery mode

hi all,
how we can find that standby database is in recovery mode using a query.
when i checked status it is shown mount. but not sure it is in recovery mode or not.
please let me know.
thanks

Hi.
More info...
The physical standby database uses several processes to achieve the automation necessary for disaster recovery and high availability. On the standby database, log apply services use the following processes:
Remote file server (RFS)
The remote file server (RFS) process receives redo logs from the primary database either in the form of archived redo logs or standby redo logs.
Archiver (ARCn)
If standby redo logs are being used, the ARCn process archives the standby redo logs that are to be applied by the managed recovery process (MRP).
Managed recovery process (MRP)
The managed recovery process (MRP) applies information from the archived redo logs or standby redo logs to the standby database.
Log apply services, in coordination with log transport services, manage the standby database by automatically applying archived redo logs to maintain transactional synchronization with the primary database.
Log apply services can apply logs to a physical standby database when the database is performing recovery (for example, in managed recovery mode), but not when it is open for reporting access (for example, in read-only mode).
For physical standby databases, you can easily change between managed recovery mode and read-only mode. In most implementations of a Data Guard environment, you may want to make this change at various times to either:

A standby database in recovery mode is only accessible as sysdba for administrative purposes. You have to open the DB in read only mode to access it as "normal" user.

  • Shrink Log file in log shipping and change the database state from Standby to No recovery mode

    Hello all,
I have configured sql server 2008 R2 log shipping for some databases and I have two issues:
can I shrink the log file for these databases: If I change the primary database from full to simple and shrink the log file then change it back to full recovery mode the log shipping will fail, I've seen some answers talked about using "No
Truncate" option, but as I know this option will not affect the log file and it will shrink the data file only.
I also can't create maintenance to reconfigure the log shipping every time I want to shrink the log file because the database size is huge and it will take time to restore in the DR site, so the reconfiguration
    is not an option :(
how can I change the secondary database state from Standby to No recovery mode? I tried to change it from the wizard and wait until the next restore for the transaction log backup, but the job failed and the error was: "the step failed". I need
to do this to change the mdf and ldf file location for the secondary databases.
    can any one help?
    Thanks in advance,

    1. If you change recovery model of database in logshipping to simple and back to full Logshipping will break and logs wont be resored on Secondary server as log chain will be broken. You can shrink log file of primary database but why would you need that
what is schedule of log backup. Frequent log backup is already taking care of log files why to shrink it and create performance load on system when log file will ultimately grow and since because instant file initilaization is not for Log files it takes time
to grow and thus slows performace.
You said you want to shrink as Database size is huge is it huge or does it have lots of free space. dont worry about data file free space it will eventually be utilized by SQL server when more data comes
    2. You are following wrong method changing state to no recovery would not even allow you to run select queries which you can run in Standby mode. Please refer below link to move Secondary data and log files

  • To open the database which is in recovery mode

    Hi Folks
Could some one help me in opening a database which is in the recovery mode .
I applied a wrong archive log and come out of it
now when i try to apply the correct archive log it says its in recovery
could some suggest me in solving this problem. alter database recover until cancel using backup controlfile

alter database recover until cancel using backup controlfile
    ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00275: media recovery has already been started
    cheers
alter database recover until cancel using backup controlfile

Oracle doesn't allow you to "apply a wrong archive log".
What commands did you execute to "apply" the archive log ? What messages did Oracle return ?
    You can either
    a. SHUTDOWN
    or
    b. ALTER DATABASE RECOVER CANCEL
    to stop it from recovering
Then, (if you want to restart "recoveyr mode") issue
    a. STARTUP MOUNT
    b. ALTER DATABASE RECOVER UNTIL CANCEL USING BACKUP CONTROLFILE
I presume that this is not a "Managed Standby" database but a manually scripted database ?

  • How to recover a datafile in recovery mode

    Hi,
We have a datafile that's 0 bytes in size and is in recovery mode. I see that the datafile is showing as available in dba_data_files but in v$datafile, it's showing the status as recover. This is in Production and the tablespace has been in this mode since last november. We are not able to offline drop the datafile as it is in recovery mode. How can this be corrected without bringing the instance down? Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

I would definitely contact Oracle support for something like this on my production database.
Here are some ideas, but some will require some production downtime to complete.
    1) Export everything that is in the tablespace that contains the datafile. Drop the tablespace including contents, create the tablespace and import everything back in......Not a good solution but it is a solution...of course there are a lot of things to consider like triggers, foreign keys and similar. This should be tested a lot.
    2) Create logical standby with corrected structure and switch to logical standby for production when complete. This will take a lot of work and testing on a test system.
    3) Another possibility would be to move tables within this tablespace to a new tablespace and then drop the old tablespace. (Performance hit but safe and no down time).
    4) If indexes then drop and recreate new indexes (Performance hit but safe and no down time.)
Once you get everything cleared out of the tablespace you should be able to drop it including contents and storage.
Of course I would try any thing I do out on a test environment before doing anything to my production environment.

  • 6800x VSS Recovery Mode

    Hi
I have set up 2 x 6800x switches as a VSS pair. I also have a separate link for Dual Active Detection. When I break the VSL, One of the switches go into recovery mode, when I restore the VSL, the switch stays in recovery mode unless I manually reload it.
Should this switch not reload automatically once the VSL is restored. I am using IOS c6880x-adventerprisek9-mz.SPA.151-2.SY4a.bin
I have previously setup VSS on a pair of 4500x switches and I know the switches in recovery mode reloaded itself once the VSL is restored.
    Thanks

The 6800 should work the same way as the 4500x series.
You may want to run a few more tests and if the behavior is the same contact Cisco TAC.
Here is the explanation from the VSS document
An active chassis that detects a dual-active condition shuts down all of its non-VSL interfaces (except interfaces configured to be excluded from shutdown) to remove itself from the network, and waits in recovery mode until the VSL links have recovered. You might need to physically repair the VSL failure. When the shut down chassis detects that VSL is operational again, the chassis reloads and returns to service as the standby chassis.

also, can you provide the output of
    sh switch virtual dual-active fast-hello

  • My iPhone would just randomly give me a blue screen and then restart--did that a bunch of times between Tuesday and last night. As of last night, it WILL NOT come back on. iTunes says it's in recovery mode....what does all of this mean???

Tuesday night I was texting a friend and when I went to open her message, my screen went blue and restarted. I just wrote it off as weird and went on about my business. Later that night, I tried to turn on my phone and it would not turn on. I plugged it up, held down the power button, and pressed the home button all numerous times. I looked online and it said to do a "hard reset" by holding down the power and home button at the same time--my phone then came on. Throughout Wednesday, it would give me a blue screen and restart--nothing major just really annoying. I took it to the local Verizon store where I bought the phone from and he said that it was some type of hardware defect and I was still under my year warranty so I could get a new one for free--the free phone won't be here until tomorrow, Saturday. I took it home and it didn't give me any trouble for a couple of hours. The next day it was cooperating and then I left town for a little while and it acted up (blue screen and then restarting) a few times. When I got home, it acted up again and so I restarted the phone and it was working fine. A few minutes later, I tried to check my messages and the phone was off again. No matter what I do, my phone will not come back to life. It had at least 45% battery last time I looked at it. I decided to plug the phone up to my computer and see what it did--my computer recognizes that there is a phone hooked to it and it says that it's in "recovery mode". It also said that if I'm having issues with my phone, that I need to reset the phone via iTunes. I guess the questions that arise are
    1. Why is my phone doing this?
    2. If I reset my phone, will it go back to working again? I ask that because I don't want Verizon to charge me $300 when they send me the replacement phone and I won't need it (assuming that the phone decides to work once it's been reset).
    3. What type of hardware defect is this that is causing this issue, not only with my iPhone 5S but others as well?
    4. Shouldn't people be notifying Apple and letting them know that they need to fix this issue?
    5. Should I report this issue to Apple even though I didn't buy the phone directly from them, but through Verizon?
Any help that anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated! This whole situation has me stressed out and seriously confused.

  • My iPod Touch is stuck in recovery mode after I left it on while updating!!!

I was updating my ipod touch 3rd generation (ios 4.3, i think) and I saw a wasp and left the computer on in the middle of the updating process and now the ipod is stuck in recovery mode and it says the only way to get it out is to recover it, but that will erase everything!!! HELP ME!!! until i get an answer      I HATE YOU, APPLE URGG
operating system: whatever the latest available to itouch is.

Without knowing what the error message said all I can suggest is:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • HT201263 my iphone 4 went into recovery mode & will not restore. Unknown error 21 comes up on iTunes. Please can someone offer any ideas for a solution?

I have an iphone 4 nearly 2 yrs old. It has worked perfectly for that time. On Friday last (whilst away on holiday) I took the phone out of my pocket & it was lifeless. I tried switching it on, no joy, I tried the power/home button reset no joy. I plugged it into a mains charger & it came on but had a banner across the screen saying "verification required". I removed the charger & decided I would try again when I got home so I could connect to my PC & iTunes.
At home I went through the whole above process again but when I plugged it into the mains again it just had the Apple logo going on/off repeatedly. I plugged the phone into my PC & the apple logo appeared followed by the "connect to iTunes". In iTunes I get the banner "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes". So I click on "OK" the "Restore" then a banner asking if I'm sure I want to restopre the iPhone appears, press "Restore & Update". iTunes starts to remove the software, veryfies it with Apple & then another flag "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (21) which appears to be a security issue.
I thought the above problem was something to do with O2 because I picked up my new iPhone 4S last Tuesday but was unable to set it up until I got back from my holiday, O2 say it isn't anything they've done.
My question is has it happened to anyone & can anybody offer a solution, is it a hardware or software issue?

  • My ipod touch isn't being recognized by iTunes or my computer. It's in "ipod recovery mode"?

My ipod touch 5th generation is not being recognized by my computer under devices or in itunes; however, when I click on devices and printers it comes up under "unspecified" and is labeled as "Apple mobile device usb driver." I right clicked the icon and hit troubleshooter and it opened itunes and told me I should restore and update my ipod. I did this twice and nothing has changed, it is still not being recognized. This is a big problem because the only thing that will pop up on the screen of my ipod is the symbol for the usb plug with an arrow pointing to the itunes symbol (meaning plug into itunes I assume). I have tried restarting my ipod and restarting my computer and nothing is working. I have the most recent version of itunes. How do I fix this?

    first try:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    next
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

  • How do I get rid of error code 2001/2006? My phone is in recovery mode. I have tried several different cords, all USB ports, my macbook, and a friends PC. This is the second time my phone has done this, the first time it was an easy fix.

I have an iPhone 4. It is in great condition, always protected. A couple months ago, it randomly went black and wouldn't turn on. I put it in recovery mode, plugged it in to my MacBook Pro and would get error code 2001 then I'd get error code 2006. I read some different forums and many people said to try using a different USB port and different cords. The last cord I tried, worked and my phone was back. Last night, my phone did the same exact thing. So I used the same method I used last time, however nothing has worked. I tried plugging it in to a PC and that didn't work either. This seems like a hopeless problem that's going to continue to happen. Any advice?

Soooooooo.... You obviously need to restore the device
It seems that you have tried several options to restore it. What I would do is leave it plugged it and hold down the Home button AND the Power button together till you see the white apple appears. Then let go of the Power button but continue to hold the home button. You should get the message in iTunes again saying that the iPhone needs to be restored. Hit OK then RESTORE.
    Hope this helps!!

  • Can't restart Yosemite in Recovery Mode

I installed Yosemite on my mid-2012 MacBookPro yesterday, seemingly without difficulty.  But: when I discovered that I didn't have permissions to read or write on anything, i ran Disk Utility.   I tried Verify/Repair Permissions first, which discovered a lot of missing or changed permissions.  Then I tried Repair Disk and the process stopped halfway through and gave me an error message essentially saying I needed to reboot in Recovery Mode and re-install.  Fine--except it won't reboot in Recovery Mode.  No matter what key combinations I try, it won't reboot into anything other than regular Yosemite.  I had made a bootable backup of my hard drive before installing Yosemite, so I tried booting from that but, again, no choices of boot mode.  Then I changed the Startup Disk preference in System Prefs to the disk with the clone on it and restarted: same result.  Now what??

    Hey everyone!
FireVault was turned on since I purchased my Macbook Pro in October.
Please read the warranty paperwork that came w/your computer.
You have 14 days to return the computer w/no questions asked.
You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support on top of your standard 1 year warranty unless you also purchased AppleCare which gives you an additional 2 years of coverage plus FREE phone support.
Strongly suggest that you take FULL advantage of the above before it runs out.  Let Apple deal w/the problems & your concerns. It's what you paid them to do.
