Start asynchronous call very slow to return

Hello,
I have a user interface that contains 12 subpanels. These 12 subpanels are populated at startup with 12 reentrant VIs that are a method of a class (called PulseOx). At startup, I initialize the subpanels by opening a reference to the VI (PulseOx:isplay). An image of the initialization routine is show below.

OK - so the formatting blew up on me and I can't seem to edit the original post. But, what I have found related to the above is similar to the Start Asynchronous Call performance. Essentially, the VI that I call via this routine is reentrant and it starts by attempting to initialize a serial port. If the device is not present, the port throws an error when I attempt to configure it, but only after waiting 5 seconds. So, the reason everything seems so slow is due to the long configuration time. This seems to be a hardware defined timeout - the configure serial port VI will not relinquish control until it has finished attempting to configure the port - 5 s. This in and of itself is not a big deal. We can live with this timeout, but what I don't understand is why this might be interfering with other VIs that are attempting to read from other serial ports that are properly connected. In my current setup, the display VI launched via the call to the Start Asynchronous Call attempts to connect repeatedly (this helps if a user accidentally disconnects the device and then reconnects later). The call to initialize the ports resides in a reentrant VI that runs on the instrument i/o execution system. All others use the stanard execution system.
Does anyone have any thoughts as to why the execution of reentrant VIs might interfere with each other if all VIs called are reentrant themselves?

How can we tell if a VI is already running before calling Start Asynchronous Call?

The new Start Asynchronous Call node is awesome for spawning multiple instances of reentrant VIs. However, I've stumbled a bit in using it for non-reentrant VIs. The old practice of using the "Run VI" method would allow us to check the Execution.State of the VI before invoking the method to run it. That way if the State was Running or Run Top Level, we could skip the invoke node and just use a property node to open its front panel. WIth the Start Asynchronous Call node, it looks like we have to use a strictly typed static VI reference, and when we open the VI reference, the VI gets reserved and its Execution.State = Running. So, how can I tell if it is not just reserved by the thread but actually executing before making a redundant Start call?
By the way, the redundant Start has interesting behavior. It will actually cause the targeted VI to be executed again after it stops. Even if you hit the Abort button on the target VI, it will immediately execute again and again equal to the number of times the Start Asynchronous Call node was run. There's nothing wrong with that, and I suppose the simple answer is to just go back to using the old "Run VI" method. It's just that the ability to wire up those inputs directly to the connector pane is so nice. Perhaps I am missing something obvious. Oh, I am referring to the Call and Forget mode (0x80).

Just throwing it out there, I know I'm a year.5 late on this but if it's a psuedo-modal dialog or some other window that you only want a single instance visible at one time, you can check the FP.State property on the strictly typed vi reference. If it's loaded and visible to the user it will be "Standard", if it was closed or not opened prior then the state will be "Closed".
I think the standard behavior of serializing execution on another thread would be great for doing a pre-set number of iterations with a sub vi in a non-blocking sort of way but for sub vi's meant for UI interaction checking FP.State works.

Please let me know some more information about the issue. Here are a few questions I have for you.
What printer(s) are installed on the computer?
How is the printer connected (USB/ wireless/ wired/ Bluetooth)?
What is the Operating System of the computer?
Have you tested hardware functionality (made copies) and do the copies function slowly too?
Have you tried printing from different programs, and are they all printing out slow?
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software?
Let me know any more details you may have that could help me understand the scenario you are running into, and I will do my best to help

My MacBook Pro just started to run very slow, what can I do to fix it?

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the slowdown.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

Macbook Pro just start to run very slow

Not sure what has happened but my laptop is now extremely slow... with the spinning wheel showing up when clicked on menus or opening folders!!
iv done an update to OSX 10.9.5 but still the same iv check Activity Monitor and cant really see anything which might using up CPU or Memory ? HHD space over 500GB left...
Memory:
Kernel_task = 541 MB
iTunes = 177 MB
Google Chrome Helper = 156 MB
CPU
nothing over 8% when i start to see it slow down
anyone got any idea whats going on >?? iv not installed anything since this has happened..

Very slow start up and very slow response

Hi guys,

My iMac is so slow to boot or start up. It takes about an 1-2 hours. It has very slow and very delayed response when doing tasks. I'm not sure what happened.
I have tried safe mode but it has not worked. I tried the disk utility but it was saying that my DVD (possibly because it is for snow leopard) is outdated. I think I updated to Lion.
Do you have any suggestions? I will try any other tricks. Do you recommend to back up before doing repair etc.?

Tried to reset the RAM but did not get through. It went to disk utility again. Tried repair but it still saying to back up and restore files. Maybe the HD has been toasted. =(...
It says: Invalid key lenght. Volume Mac HD could not be verifried completely.. then it says Error: disk utilityu can't repair close back disk out, restoere etc..
In disk utillity as well, Mac OS X base system appeared- I dont know the purpose of this. It has some files on it. Dont know whether to restore it or what?..Mac HD seems like the it's empty..

Satellite A300-MM1 - start-up is very slow

I bought 3 Laptops (Satellite A300-MM1) a month ago but I noticed they were all very slow at start up (boot).
They took about 6 minutes till I saw the desktop and sometimes don't work.
Satellite A300 MM1 (harman/kardon)
Windows Vista Home Premium (Service Pack1)
Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual T3200 @ 2.00 GHz 2.00 GHz
3.00 GB RAM
I thought it was the Antivirus but I put McAfee Antivirus in two of them and Kaspersky in the other but I faced the same problem.
What I should do?

I bought an A300 21H and start up was appauling so I took the following out and now I'm up and running in about 30 secs,
Tempro
Config Free
Toshiba power saver
Mcafee AV and now using Kaspersky
Chicony Tray
and disabled flash cards via control panel (can still use F keys)
When I first got my laptop it took 2 min to start up and battery life of between 1 hr 10min to 1 hr 30min
by removing the above my start up is under 30 secs and battery life is about 2hr 30 mins.
The programs were removed by using the RUN and typing msconfig
untick the boxes under the START UP tab that you dont want running
RESTART machine then CONTROL PANEL and uninstall them
Please note Mcafee needs a removal tool off their website to completely remove it..
Flash Cards was disabled only and not completely removed via CONTROL PANEL then PERFORMANCE ICON then top left hand corner MANAGE START UP PROGRAMS then DISABLE..........
Now your laptop will be very much quicker

Everything starting to run very slow

I have had my mac book pro for almost a year, and for a little while now its been running very very very slow for anything, or i try to switch windows and i get a huge delay in it crossing over, like a lag spike in processing. is there a type of defrag for macs? if so how do i go about doing so. otherwise, what could be some things i more then likely donot know about keep a mac up to speed to reduce lag type issues.

The temperatures that you iStat pro shows are not out of line for video and games. When internal temperature start approaching and exceeding 100c, then there becomes cause for concern. Never the less, run an Apple Hardware test:

My mac (10.9.5) suddenly started to run very slow

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C).
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, stop here and post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.

Started to run VERY slow with spinning disk lasting minutes

With no warning, my laptop has started the behavior described. I am running 10.6.8 and have loaded no new software, except the updates from Apple.

Back up your computer. Now!
This could be a sign of an impending hard-disk failure, or possibly a shortage of disk space.
1) Check how much free space you have. I suggest a minimum of 20 GB, or 10% of your hard-dis capacity, whichever is the greater. If you have less, the system will run slow.
2) If you have plenty of disk space, open Disk Utility, and perform a "Verify Disk" on your hard-drive.

Cs6 starting panels and very slow application

When I start InDesign, the 'starting panels' part of the startup process hangs for some time. After about 2-3 minutes though, the app will load. However, when I'm loaded, switching from one pallette to another (for instance, pages to layers) takes — literally — 30 seconds. During most of which I have the spinning beach ball. Has anyone else seen this?
I trashed my prefs: no love.
Uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign: no love.
OS: 10.8
computer: iMac 27" 2.93 i7 with 16GB RAM
Illustrator, Photoshop, and other Adobe apps are fine.

I had the exact same problem with InDesign CS6. I upgraded to Mountain Lion without problems on my 2008 Mac Pro. Suddenly the panels were not opening quickly at all (beachball of death). The entire app got sluggish. I tried everything, including a clean reinstall of InDesign and a call to Adobe support. Having read this thread I suddenly realized that I too had installed Hiss on my Mac for Growl notifications. I disabled it as a startup item, rebooted and the problem instantly went away. So, Hiss was definitely the culprit! I never would have figured that out had I not read this post and follow-up replies. Thank you!

Starting EAS is very slow -Web Launcher for Administration Services Console

Hi all,
When a user has not been connected to EAS for more or less amount of time
starting the EAS via (Web Launcher for Administration Services Console) takes a very long time.
When ESA is started also opening the “Essbase Server” node and then also opening the “Application” node takes a long time.
This a very annoying.
Is there any chance to accelerate this?
Any hint is welcome.

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention: Version 11.1.2.1 in a distributed environment Win2008R3 64bit.
From one of the servers I also used EAS with the same outcome - well seems the Service behind is the same one.
And as I wrote this is not always case. for example just this morning it was fast as I expected it to be.
However there must be a reason for the occasional slowliness and customers usually has less understanding for suche an up and down of performance.
Any idea?

Since i updated my mac book pro OS to Yosemite 10.10.3, the start up became very slow! is this a common issue?

I have updated my 13" MacBook Pro OS to Yosemite 10.10.3 two days ago. I immediately noticed the start up is slower than the previous version. It gives me a black screen for sometime in the beginning and then comes the apple logo. Is this a common issue?
