Start Routine to look Up data in BI 7.0

Hello friends,
I have to write a start routine to get some data from a DSO.I have written the code and i know it use to work fine in BW 3.x but i get errors in BI 7.0.If someone can please adjust the format for me to work with BI.
DATA: BEGIN OF ITAB OCCURS 0,
          /BIC/ZOBJECT LIKE /BIC/AZ_DSOD00-/BIC/ZOBJECT,
    END OF ITAB.
DATA: WA_ITAB LIKE LINE OF ITAB.
Right at this point of decleration i get an error
E:Tables with headers are no longer supported in the OO context.
Then the rest of the code is
SELECT /bic/ZOBJECT
         FROM /bic/az_dsod00
         INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE ITAB
         FOR ALL ENTRIES IN SOURCE_PACKAGE
         WHERE MATERIAL = SOURCE_PACKAGE-MATERIAL.
and ofcourse the WA_ITAB wil be used in the in Source field transformation.
Please help me out with this issue.Points shall be assigned.

Its difficult in BW 3.5 to include this logic in START_ROUTINE as you cannot add the extra to_date field to the DATA_PACKAGE table.
You need to create a new global internal table with the same structure of DATA_PACKAGE with additional field to_date. then use the logic to fill in the global internal table
define a internal table new_data_package with the required structure like (docno, eventtype, fromdate todate)
data: l_w_datapkg_001 type data_package,
data: l_w_newdatapkg type new_data_package,
data: l_w_datapkg_011 type data_package
LOOP AT DATA_PACKAGE INTO l_w_datapkg_001 WHERE event_type = '001'.

l_w_newdatapkg-event_type = l_w_datapkg_001-event_type.

Start Routine - Do not load data that doesnt exist in ODS

I am loading between two cubes. I only want to load products that exist in a seperate ods.
Can someone help me out with the code for this?

How do i get at the data in the data package of the start routine

I have some very simple code in my start routine but it says data-package is not a table but it is SAP code that defines it this way. here is my code

The data package is not a DB table, but an internal table.
You will have to use a LOOP statement to get at all data :
    LOOP AT SOURCE_PACKAGE INTO w_SOURCE_PACKAGE.
      IF w_SOURCE_PACKAGE-myField = '98'.
      something to do
      ENDIF.
    ENDLOOP. " SOURCE_PACKAGE

Start Routine Logic Updating Field in Target ODS

Hi,
I am creating a Start Routine to Update Field (date) from one ODS to another based on the Key Structure: Document Number, Line Item Number.
I am encountering a situation as follows:
Source
Doc Num 1 Line Item 10 Date 1/1/1
Target
Doc Num 1 Line Item 10 Date 1/1/1
DocNum 1 Line Item 20
DocNum 1 Line Item 30
DocNum 1 Line Item 40
The Routine I have now correctly updates line item 10 with the date 1/1/1.
I am trying to modify the code to only update the target ods if all of the line items are in the source. In this example Line Item 10 would not get updated since Line Items 20,30,40 are not in the Source ODS.
Has anyone encountered something like this.

Hi,
If you have all the line items in target for which you want to do updates you can do this in transformation start routine.
Try this first hand logic :
1. Create a internal tables(say SOURCE_INTERNAL_TABLE and TARGET_INTERNAL_TABLE)
    with fields document number and another field integer say COUNTER
2. Read active table of source for all the document numbers in source package.
3. Update the SOURCE_INTERNAL_TABLE for all the document number with appropriate counts
    (All the records of same document number should be in same data package)
4. Update the TARGET_INTERNAL_TABLE by reading the target ODS as done for source.
5. LOOP AT SOURCE_PACKAGE
     if COUNTER in SOURCE_INTERNAL_TABLE and TARGET_INTERNAL_TABLE is not same
     then delete the record from source package itself
   END LOOP
6. Your next code
    (Please take care that you are not referring the deleted records otherwise it will through a dump)
If you don't have all the line items in target then you need to bring them somewhere in BI (document number and item number only sufficient with both as a key fields) so as to refer them in your start routine.
Please update me if anything is wrong or if any corrections in logic.

Code help - start routine

I have two ODS's - ODS1 and ODS2 . ODS1 feeds data to ODS2 using an
uppdate rule .ODS1 data is as follows
Billno Itemno cond keyfig
10     1     a     1
10     1     b     3
10     1      c     5
20     1     d     7
20     1     e     8
20     1     f     1
20     1     g     1
30     2     h     4
30     3     h     2
I need to populate a field in ODS2 (say sum) by summing
all values of keyfig for each bill no . for example in the
above case ods2-sum should be filled with values 9 ,16 and 6
for billno's 10,20& 30 respectively .
can someone pls help me with required code.

In the start routine write the selection:
DATA: begin of it_int occurs 0,
                billno type ods2-billno,
                sum type ods2-sum,
             end of it_int.
select billno sum( keyfig ) from ods1
into table it_int groupby billno orderby billno.
In the update routine for ods2-sum read the it_init:
read table it_int with key
billno = COMM_STRUCTURE-billno.
if sy-subrc = 0.
result = it_int-sum.

ABAP Code Problem in Start Routine to Fill the value from Look-up Table ???

Hi Venkat,
Two things -One is the performance and the other ... there is no Append within the loop.
Try moving the select statement ousdie the loop to improve performance and move the modify statement into the loop ... change modify to append. Code below.

Identify the last data package in start routine

We have a start routine in transformations. We require to do some special processing in the start routine only when the last data package is executing. How can we determine in the start routine that current package is last one or not ? Any pointers in this direction are appreciated.

You can get packet Id from datapackid in start routine and end routine. But I'm not so sure how to identify the last packet ID, alternatively you can store this packet id in some where else and read the same value in End routine if your logic(processing) permits to do this in End routine instead of Start routine.

I need a Start Routine & help, while loading the data from DSO to Info Cube.
In the DSO ( /BIC/AZSD_O0300 ) & in the InfoCube I have a common fields are
0DOC_NUMBER ( DOCUMENT NUMBER), 0S_ORD_ITEM ( Sales Document Item Number ), 0SCHED_LINE ( Schedule Line ) and 0MATAV_DATE ( Material Available Date ).

Hello Wond Thanks for Good Answer and good option, But Client does not like this option and does not like Nav Attribute so he does not want to turn on any Nav Attribute, In general also We hav requirement to read a third table while uploading 1 dso table to 2 dso table,

Data Source 0HR_PA_0 Syntax Error in the start routine while activating

Hi All,
I have migrated the Business content for the data source 0HR_PA_0
While activating the transformation-2 there is errors like:
Start Routine: Syntax error in routine
Rule (target: 0HDCNT_LAST, group: 01 Standard Group): Syntax error in routine
Rule (target: 0AGE_KYF, group: 01 Standard Group): Syntax error in routine
.................... etc
I need help to resolve this issue.

Index used or not for selecting data from ODS in a start routine

Dear friends,
In the start routine of the update rules to a cube, I am reading some data of an ODS in to an internal table .
The ODS is indexed. But, I am not sure if the index is at all used in the Select statement (that gets the data from ODS to the internal table in the start routine) while loading data to the cube.
Any help is highly appreciated.

You can findout this is display execution plan for SQL statement in DB02.
Goto DB02. and under diagnostic, you find explain. Select that and enter your query. Make sure that everything here is in capital format. Below is a sample query which I have entered.
SELECT "CRM_SALORG" "SALESORG" FROM "/BI0/QORGUNIT"
WHERE "SALESORG" = ? AND "OBJVERS" = ? AND "DATETO" >= ?
AND "DATEFROM" <= ?
The select parameters should be inside qoutes and in caps and even the from table. Once you enter your query in this format, click on explain. It will show the index scan if the index is present. the output for my query will be something like
0 SELECT STATEMENT ( Estimated Costs = 1,348E+01 [timerons] )
        1 (COOR) RETURN
            2 (    0) TQ
                3 (    0) FETCH /BI0/QORGUNIT
                    4 (    0) IXSCAN /BI0/QORGUNIT~Z1
Where my last statement (line 4) is showing index scan and the name of index read is Z1.

Reading data from 2 infocubes in same start routine - RSDRI_INFOPROV_READ

Is it possible to read data from 2 Infocubes via RSDRI_INFOPROV_READ FM in same start routine of Infosource.
Both infocube have different KF's.
my one Infocube reading is working fine but now need to another infocube in same strat routine.
Help will be appreciated and full points will be assigned.

Filter data in transfer rules using start routine

Hi all!
I am an absolute newbie here, but I have a question regarding start routines and I noticed many questions get solved around here. My situation is the following: I have to create a start routine where the data to be transferred is filtered on an attribute "DESTINAT" in info object "0BILL_TYPE". DESTINAT can be 'M' or 'D' and depending on that letter, data must flow to a separate ODS.
Well,I came up with the following:
somewhere in my start routing I guess I'll have to put:
loop at data_pak.
DELETE DATAPAK Where DESTINAT = 'D'
endloop.
When I place this in my start routine of my transfer rules leading to the ODS where data must be of DESTINAT type 'M', will this do the trick?
I want to put the following code in the transfer rules leading to my other ODS, where data must be of type DESTINAT = 'D':
loop at data_pak.
DELETE DATAPAK Where DESTINAT = 'M'
endloop.
I'm sorry that this is a very basic question, but like I said: I'm a newbie in SAP...

Start routine: only once per teh load but not once per data packet

I would like to execute some code in start routine (in update rules) only once per the load but not once per the data packet.
How can I implement this.

I once had that same requirement, but in a datasource in R3. I'm not sure if the same solution would work in BW, though. I used a memory id to keep the variable value between packets:
DATA: ... n_globalvar TYPE n ...
then I added...
IMPORT n_globalvar FROM MEMORY ID 'ZMEMID01'.
...at the start of the routine to retrieve to the variable the value from the memory id.
At the end of the code, I exported the variable back to the same memory id...
EXPORT n_globalvar to MEMORY ID 'ZMEMID01'.
