C++ process hangs when started from Java

I am trying to execute a c++ code from java on a remote Windows machine. In order to deal with the remote part, I have created a Web service from where the actual command is run using Runtime.exec(). The c++ exe is not being called directly from the java code. I have a batch file that eventually calls the exe.
The problem is, both java and c++ processes hang. The java code on server side does handle the output stream and error stream. Also, the c++ code is logging everything in a file on Windows. The strange thing is that, when I remove the WS call and run the java code on server side as a standalone java program, it succeeds. Also, execution of the batch file alone does not hang. Here is the java code:

The WS server is running from some admin user. And I have been running the standalone java program from some other user. It seems that the c++ executable is giving referenced memory error when being executed from WS call. There are pop-ups citing the error with OK and Cancel buttons(visible when logged in as admin). The error states
The instruction at 0x05473030 referenced memory at 0x000001d4. The memory could not be read
Any idea what is causing the problem and how to debug it? Why does this memory error comes only when the exe is run through WS call? Please note that I won't be able to debug the c++ code and the web service is an apache axis2 service.

How can I know? Its your environment, not mine. The only thing we know is that when running the stuff through one path things blow up and when you run them through another path, things don't blow up. User rights is an obvious suspect, but not necessarily the actual problem. Generally when rights are the problem, you get some form of "access denied" exception, not a code hang.
Another likely possibility is that of network settings; perhaps your server goes through a proxy and your local applications do not, or the other way around.
Yet another likely possibility is that the version of Java used is different, or different versions of libraries are no the classpath causing differences in behavior. There is only one way to figure it out: get to know your environment very well and through solid reasoning and experimentation try to figure out where the breaking point is. It all starts with answering this question: what might be different in the environment of the web server, and outside of it? I can't know, only you can. Good luck.

OpenGL not starting from java using java web start

Dear All,
I am a beginner in java2d, please excuse if what I am asking is not your standards. My problem is that I am using a swing application that is delivered to a client machine through the webstart. It is a medical Image viewer(usually DICOM images of size 10~15 MB) . I am using windows XP in my client machines. My graphics card is 'Intel(R) 82865G Graphics controller' and installed with the latesr driver from the intel web site. My current problems are:
1. I tried starting the opengl through the command line using the option java -Dsun.java2d.opengl=True MyApp. My application started however the verbose says opengl could not be started. The message is as follows:
Could not enable OpenGL pipeline for default config on screen 0
2. How can I start open gl when my application is run by java web start? How can I know that open gl has started? I tried giving System.setProperty("sun.java2d.opengl","True") in the main function of the program. I couldnt see any message regarding the opengl in the web start console.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,

SQL Tracing for session started from Java code

I am working with Oracle 10g on Solaris 9. I am facing a problem when trying to enable SQL Trace for Oracle sessions initiated from Weblogic server. I am querring V$SESSION to get the SID and SERIAL# of those sessions and then using DBMS_SYSTEM.SET_SQL_TRACE_IN_SESSION(<sid>, <serial#>, TRUE); from the SQLPlus (using sys login). But the trace file is not being generated in UDUMP even after some queries are fired from the application. But when I am using the same procedure to turn SQL Trace on for SQLPlus sessions or SQLDeveloper sessions, they are just working fine.
Can anyone please help me out?

How to enable logging for Java Web Start on Java 6.

I'm trying to get logging working in Java Web Start from Java 6. In previous versions I was able to specify a log file in the Java Web Star control panel (or whatever it was called) , but I can't work out what to do in the Java 6 version of JWS. I've checked the docs and searched the forums here and on java.net but haven't been able to find anything.
Does anybody know how I can get this working?

I just downloaded and instaled firefox 4. Now, everytime I institute a command I get a po[p-up from Java script that tells me to uninstal set. I cannot go on untin I press ok and then I am good for one more command and it starts with the pop-up again.

I'm not even sure if this is an extension or plug-in and all I can tell you is what I have already stated. I can only make one command at a time and after each one I get a pop-up from Java script that says uninstal set. I must depress ok to move on, but only for one more command and it starts over again. This also happened when I tried to instal firefox 4 a couple months ago and I deleted the program and went back to an earlier version.

I launch an aplication via Java Web Start from a link in a web page. I am looking to a solution to refresh my web page when I close my applet.

everything's possible. but this is not trivial. there is no direct connection between the html page that launched the app and the app. You can create an indirect connection by having the app notify a server process when it closes and having the page periodically polling the server for the app's status.

Start a java program from an FMB then read and write some variables

Hello,
I am trying to see whether the following setup works:
item A, B, D and Button Z are on a Forms Canvas.
User clicks on Button Z. This will launch a java program (Myprog class).
Myprog main will read values in item A and B, run some calculation and then will return it back to our forms module and then will be displayed in item D.
I have read about PL/SQL wrapper but the way I am looking at my setup is that my Forms module will be just the GUI interface.
Any ideas ?

main thing: a JAVA class that will take some inputs and will output some results and messages.
Prob: I do not want to use swing or any other GUI builder to make a nice GUI for my JAVA class.
What I want: I know how to use Forms. As such, I just want to put together a quick interface (mymodule.fmb) that when executed will allow the user to click on a button to start the java process and then see the results and error messages.
Why I don't want to go through SWING: my main prob is to get the java class executed ( which is fine right now thru command line) by other users thru a GUI interface. I do not have time to go thru SWING.
From the paper I mentioned, I think the PJC is the way to go. Can you please confirm ?

Yes, it's possible. If you have a JAR executable, you've just to call the main method of its starter class. For a simple executable class, just call its main method.
This way :
SomeStarter.main(null); // if there's no argumentSmall precision : the executable JAR or class must be specified in the classpath of your application.

How to call back to C via JNI in Java started from C?

This problem might seem outlandish, but I have not been able to find any other method to reach my goal. The situation is the following.
There is a C++ program I intend to interface with a piece of Java code, called the manager. The C++ code invokes a VM, starts a Java glue code, that connects to the manager via RMI. This works fine. The glue code, however, can be called from the manager, via RMI as well. The problem is, that these calls should in turn call functions in the C++ code, that originally started the Java glue code. JNI can only load a library, but this is not what I want to do now. I want to somehow connect back to the C code that started the Java code. Is this possible at all?

What you want to do is not too tough, but there will be some details to be worked through. In particular, you have to figure out how to make your "callback" get from your "glue" code back into your C++.
1. Calling back out is from java to C is pretty easy. There is a JNI function for registering a native method with the JVM. Here is an example of the registration code:

3. The real headache is that this is C code, not C++. In other words, if you really need to call into C++, then you need to seed your callback so that it has a pointer to the appropriate C++ object.

Starting a external program from java

hi iam trying to start MySQL server from java, the command in dos is as follows C:\mysql\bin\mysql -u username -p ,then the user hits return and the user is prompted to enter a password. i have got as far as entering the the C:\mysql\bin\mysql -u username -p but dont know how get the prompt back to the java program i would be greatfull if anyone could tell me where iam not doing,heres my code so far

You should try using the getOutputStream() and getInputStream() methods for the Process object. Each returns either an inputStream or OutputStream object.
You should be careful if the mySQL password is added to the command since anyone doing a 'ps' on the machine could see the password.

make sure that MQ send http request to PI. i dont think a configuration scenario is required in PI. Only roles should be enabled with proper user provided to MQ team.
However, for security reasons, you can configure a scenario if you dont want to expose PI infrastructure directly to 3rd parties.

Start and Stop a Windows Service From Java

Is there any way to start and stop a Windows service from Java? The only post I found on it (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=647509) had a link to one of the many aps that allow Java programs to be services, which is not what I am interested in doing.
I am attempting to get data from performance counters from the Windows Performance Monitor into a Java ap without using JNI. I can get the data from C++ or a .net language pretty easily and was going to create a service that would listen for socket requests and feed back the data. However, I'd like to start and stop that service when my java code starts and stops. Is this possible? Would it make more sense to just use a .exe and Runtime.exec()?

for any other file types it works properly.
