State space of continuous systems with discrete mesurements

Hello everyone,
I want to implement some estimation techniques for continuous systems using discrete measurement but I'm having some trouble finding a communion between the two concepts in labview. Basically what I want to do is to solve the ODE for the system continuously, while just getting measurements every some time step (bigger that the ODE solver), then using both quantities for state estimation. Any advice on this?
Thank you,
Juan E Tapiero

Hi!
Have you tried taking a look at the ODE solver.vi in LabVIEW? You can find more information on this VI here:

  • Discrete state-space representation in FPGA

    Hello all,
My aim is to simulate a discrete state-space model is the cRIO FPGA (in order to use an observer).
I am currently trying to simulate it on my computer without using the discrete state-space VI from the Control Design and Simulation toolbox (because there is not state-space model VI for the FPGA). However my discrete state-space model representation does not work.
There is below the continuous state-space model:
Then I obtained the discretized model (using the zero-order-hold and t=0.01s):
Below is the discretized state-space model I designed (in order to design a similar model in the FPGA):
Here is the discrete state-space VI I'm using to compare the results:
The graph plots the state X1, which is infinitely increasing. However it should look like a first order, as you can see:
I understand why the state X1 is increasing like this, I know I'm missing something (integration saturation ?).
    Thanks in advance
    Regards!
PS: Does somebody know if implenting other controller than the PID is doable in the cRIO FPGA? I also asking myself about matrix inversion if I want to use the Kalman gain in my observer.
PS2: I apologize for my disorganized/unclear Labview files, I'm beginning with it.
    Solved!

    Hi,
I think the problem might be caused by rounding errors in your A and B matrices.  Have you tried getting it to display the values with greater precision?
    Matlab calculates those values as:  A = [0.995, 0.009925; 0 0.99],  B = [2.488e-5; 0.004975]

  • Implementation of state space model with constant disturbance in mathscript and simulation

I am new to LabVIEW and now I am doing a project realizing heater control in 8 rooms.
I have realized the state space model in the form x(k+1)=x(k)+u(k) using mathscript (using c_to_d) and feed it into control and simulation loop for simulation.
My problem is, in my project, I have to consider the disturbance from the other rooms. So the statespace model changed to be x(k+1)=x(k)+u(k)+E*d, where E is the matrix concerning the disturbance and d is the vector of disturbance. How could I implement the disturbance and discretize the new model in mathscript and which function to choose for the simulation. Discrete state space stochastic model?
    Appreciate your kind help.

Hello, state space models in LabVIEW most of the time are being implemented by utilizing mathscript syntax
in addition with some functions of the LabVIEW Control Design and Simulation Module.
There´s a couple of nice tutorials for control design with these tools which I´d like to point you to as a first step.

  • I have a state space model of a complex system. can anyone help me for implementing MPC and e-MPC control for the same?????

Hi everyone. I am new to the forums, so let me be as mprecise as possible. i know the basic functionalities of Labview with MPC block etc. However, i dont know how to go ahead with implementing MPC control for a system whose state space model i possess. can anyone help me out?? the problem is that i dont even know the approach or the starting point..

This happens if you remove a program manually, but still have the registry keys to load files from this program.<br />
You can use the MSConfig program or the Autoruns utility to see which software and services are getting started.
You can use registry editor and do a search (Ctrl+D) for imesh to see if you can locate the registry key(s) that launches this program on a reboot.
Try to ask advice at a Windows oriented forum if you can't fix this.

I have been trying to work on my homework all afternoon, via NAU's blackboard system. I am continuously getting booted out of the system, with an error stating "Data execution prevention". How can I prevent this from continuing?

If you are wondering why you are not getting any responses, it is because you have vented a complaint without any details that make any sense or give anyone something to work on.
If you want help, I suggest actually detailing what has happened, with versions of software etc. Anything that would let us assist.
As a start I am guessing that you have not really got the hang of "How it all works". Firstly download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf from under the Help menu. Read that and view the Video Tutorials in the same place. A good addition would be the iWork 09 Missing manual book and something to help you learn how to use your Mac.
If there are specific tasks you need help with:

  • Middleware problem -Outbound queue is stuck in SAP R/3 system with message

    Hi Middleware gurus ,
We are stuck with a serious issue . We are trying to download Business partners from SAP R/3 4.6c system to SAP CRM 5.2 system using CRM Middleware
Previously we did a successful Initial download of 2 Business partners from SAP R/3 to CRM . Their BP numbers in CRM are 001 and 002 . The Delta load is working fine for the both the BPs which are already downloaded
Now , the real problem is when we are trying to download a new Business partner . When we set the Filter ( BP no 003 ) in MW adaptor object CUSTOMER_MAIN and start the Initial load again , we see that the Outbound queue is getting stuck with message “STOP” .
There are two queues generated in SAP R/3 system with names “MASS_CRM_CUSTOME” and “R3AD_CUSTOME” . The status for both the queues is “STOP” and when go for details it mentions “sapsuck ..SAPMSSY1 “ -Message no. SR 053.
Even we checked the txn SMW01, the Bdocs message is "Recived ( Intermediate state) " for Bdoc type BUPA_MAIN.
We really don’t as to why the Initial load worked fine with 2 BPs  and later when want to do more BP Initial Load the Outbound queue is getting stuck
Also , by unlocking the 2nd queue “R3AD_CUSTOME” we are able to release it , but the first queue “MASS_CRM_CUSTOME*” is stuck
    Please help us urgently

Hi Praveen and other Middleware gurus,
We checked on this . Actually the RFC is used for connecting to SAP R/3 system.
We also raised an OSS message on this and found a reply that in transaction CRMM_BUPA_MAP, we can map the required BP . But the SAP support guy recived an error received the error:
An RFC link is not maintained in the Middleware
    Message no. CRM_BUPA_MAPPING051
We have set the RFC link , but still the problem continues!!!
    Please help further..

  • Error: Could not continue scan with nolock due to data movement, DBCC proccache will clear the probelm

    SQL Server: 2008 R2 SP2
Before describing my problem, I have gone via the forum, there is no view or functions inside my stored procedure
When running a particular stored procedure inside crystal report, the error " Could not continue scan with nolock due to data movement" comes once every few weeks. After I clear the query cache plan, it works again for few weeks and the problem
comes again. During these few weeks, there is no restart or query plan clearing.
If I run the stored procedure inside SSMS, where the SQL statement is copied and pasted from SQL profiler during crystal report run, there is no error.
I discovered running in SSMS and crystal report generate 2 different query plans even I copied the SQL from SQL profiler, I have actually saved the query plans. Unfortunately, this forum does not accept attachments, or otherwise I will post my query plans
    here.
There is one thing I notice about the query plan is during nested loop operation, there is a warning "no join predicate". I don't use any views or UDF in the statement, nor did I use pre-1992 ANSI join syntax. However, I did use table variables.
My guess is whether this will cause " Could not continue scan with nolock due to data movement", after I clear the cache, I run crystal report again, and I look at the plan again, the "nested loop no join predicate" warning is gone.
Running this stored procedure took 1 second maximum, even when this error is popping up, it pop up within 1 second.
    DBCC checkdb has been run
The same stored procedure running by crystal report in a SQL 2008 (non r2) live environment has no problems, so I am thinking this is R2 specific problems.
The "nested loop no join predicate" error SQL statment is below, no views, no udf, but table variables
    INSERT @ChequeAccount
    SELECT        PS.PaySummaryID, PS.EmployeeID, PS.CostCentreID,
                (PS.GrossPay    + PS.LumpSumA + PS.LumpSumB    + PS.LumpSumD+ PS.LumpSumE+ PS.ETP+ PS.PaymentsAfterTax    - PS.DeductionsAfterTax
     - PS.Tax- PS.ETPTax    + PS.TaxRebate) * -1 AS Amount,
                CGLM.GLAccountID
    FROM Pay_Summary PS JOIN Input_Sheet ISH ON PS.InputSheetID = ISH.InputSheetID  AND  ISH.PayrollID = @binPayrollID
AND PS.PaySummaryID NOT IN (SELECT PaySummaryID FROM @ChequeAccount)
    JOIN Payroll P ON P.PayrollID = ISH.PayrollID AND P.EmployerID = @binEmployerID
JOIN CustomGLFixMapping CGLM ON CGLM.EmployerID = P.EmployerID AND CustomGLFixMappingNameID = 1 AND CGLM.CostCentreID IS NULL

The error Could not continue scan with nolock due to data movement can occur when you use the NOLOCK table hint, or use the command SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL READ UNCOMMITTED. That is, so-called dirty reads. The error is not related to the
query plan per se, but when scanning a table, the storage engine will use an IAM scan rather than following the clustered index. If there is simultaneous activity, the storage engine may detect this and abort the operation to avoid returning incorrect data.
Or it may not detect it, and return uncommitted data or fail to return committed data.
All of these effects are transitory and they will not show up when you are alone on the system, only when there is concurrent activity in one or more of the tables in the query.
Using dirty reads is a risky business for the reasons explained above, and it takes careful analysis to understand whether you can live with the errors you can get from a particular query. The error about data movement can be handled: trap the error and
resubmit the query. But what about spurious incorrect results?
If you believe locking to be a problem, you should consider setting the database to READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT
and take out all use of READ UNCOMMITTED/NOLOCK. When the database is in READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT, readers read from the snapshot and only see committed data without blocking writers. This has some other effects like requiring a bigger tempdb,
and there is a risk for other types of concurrency errors, but they tend to be smaller risks.
I discovered running in SSMS and crystal report generate 2 different query plans even I copied the SQL from SQL profiler,
This is because SSMS by default runs with SET ARITHABORT ON. I discuss this in more detail in this article on my web site:
    http://www.sommarskog.se/query-plan-mysteries.html
However, as I said, this problem is not related to the query plan as such, although some query plans are more susceptible to this error than others. (All plans are suscpeitble to produce incorrect results).

  • Plot a state-space model

    Hi!
I'm currently doing a project and I'm stuck and am in need for some help.
I've done a state-space model that I'm using for this project. I've used Matlab (with and without simulink) to simulate this model and to plot its behaviour. But when I want to do this in LabVIEW, i get stuck.
I dont want to use Mathscript 'cause then it would be using Matlab.
Does anybody have some ideas of how I can simulate and plot my state-space model from the  matrix parameters that i have?
Look at the attachment, I want to plot x.
    Solved!

We have so many different ways to do this. Try to look at the following shipping examples:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2011\examples\Control and Simulation\Control Design\Model Construction\CDEx Creating SS Model from String Matrix.vi
    C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2011\examples\Control and Simulation\Control Design\Model Construction\CDEx Rendering State-Space Equations.vi
    C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2011\examples\Control and Simulation\Control Design\Time Analysis\CDEx Time Domain Analysis.vi
    C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2011\examples\Control and Simulation\Simulation\Continuous Linear\SimEx state space.vi
They show how you can use the product to create a State-Space (SS) model, show the rendered model on the front panel, do a linear simulation of a model and implement the state-space model in the Control and Simulation Loop, respectively.
Notice also that we have an extensive amount of examples available for you. Hope this helps...

  • Control and design applying ramp input and plotting polar coordinates state space

    Hi
I am trying to do a fairly simple state space task with Control Design and Simulation toolbox, however I am quite new at using this toolbox and need some help :-)
I want to simulate a MIMO system of a 2-DOF robot arm. The robot arm consists of two links, the first link can rotate arround its origo at its end, and the next link moves inside the first link, in and out.
So the two outputs is define as
r (radius), which is the distance to the end-effector of the robot, and
theta, which is the angular postion of the robot arm
FYI, the two inputs are the currents send to the two motors controlling each link.
I have set up A, B, C and D matrices in the attached VI file and putted it inside a simulation loop.
    Now I need help :-)
I want to simulate the system when a ramp input is applied to the two inputs and plot the two outputs in a polar graph to show the end-effectors position when the system is just "let loose". The result should be a spiral (this is verified in MATLAB simulink).
So please, I need help setting up the VI to do the above, can anyone help?
    Best regards

    Hello Simon,
The error comes from your Ramp Input. Since your system is MIMO, you would need to feed in a vector input to the system.
I've changed your VI and attached here~!

  • ICalExternalSync locks up my system with disk read/writes -  any fixes?

When I allow ICalExternalSync to run it completely hangs up my system by hogging a gig of real memory and nearly 3 gigs of virtual memory. It also floods the system with continuous disk read/writes - which stop immediately when I quit the process.
I've learned to shut ICalExternalSync down in "Activity Monitor" as soon as I've synced my calenders.
Anyone else have this problem and a fix?

I thought so too, but after doing that, the total download size for the updates was bigger than the space left. It was 2.8 gigs of downloads, and the root partition was 5.6 gigs full out of 7.56 gigs.
I've never experienced such a huge update before! It's been a few hours and i'm still fixing it. There's literally hundreds of thousands of files that are now giving me "file exists in filesystem" errors so i'm making a script to delete all of those.
To get an idea of how many files there was, i outputted the errors to a file, opened it up with less, then pressed and held page down for almost 2 minutes, didn't reach the bottom, so ended up just pressing end.
Anyways, I'm going to post the scripts so it in case anyone encounters this critical problem, they can follow some simple instructions and be on their way.

  • I do not have many messages but my iphone 5s says messages take up 4.6GB of space.  When comparing with friends who have many more message, less than 1 GB is being used on their phones.  Why are mine taking up so much space and how do I correct that?

I do not have that many messages on my new iPhone 5s (maybe about 15 conversations and only one or two going back a little ways) yet when I go to Settings, Usage it shows that my messages are taking up 4.6GB of space.  When comparing with others (some who have hundeds of messages) they are using under 1GB for their messages.  Why are mine taking up so much space??

I found a post with this solution that worked for me - .Do a backup, then download ibackupbot. It lets you look into the contents of that backup. Look in system files>mediadomain>library>sms>attachments. I found a ton of huge files related to long deleted texts. ibackupbot let me delete all that old crap. I then restored the phone with that now modifec backup and Bingo! freed up 9 GB. No problems.
But note, if you are not technically inclined you probaly don't want to be digging around and deleting back up files. You delete the wrong thing and you could jack up your phone badly. Be careful.

Solstice DiskSuite[TM] Software: How to Delete and Reset a Lost Root Password on a System With a Mirrored Root Disk [ID 1010755.1]
    Solution
    Steps to Follow
How to delete and reset a lost root password on a system with a mirrored root disk.
    1) Insert the Solaris[TM] Operating System CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
    2) Once the CD-ROM is in the drive, perform a stop-a. This brings the system down to the "ok" prompt.
    3) From the "ok" prompt, perform a single-user boot from the Solaris OS CD-ROM.
ok boot cdrom -s4) At the "#" prompt, determine which disk is the system's boot disk (containing the root file system). There are several Oracle architectures and various configurations of systems when it concerns a boot disk. As a general rule, most boot disks are attached to controller 0 (c0). Usually, their SCSI target is
either 3 (t3) or 0 (t0). However, Oracle machines are very flexible, and the boot disk could be at a different location. If you are not sure which disk is your boot disk, perform the following steps to determine the location of the boot device:
    a) # eeprom boot-device
The output might appear to be simple, such as "disk" or "disk1" or more complicated, such as a pathname "/iommu/sbus/espdma@4,8400000/...../sd@3,0:a".
    b) Make note of the boot-device. If the boot-device is a pathname, it is beyond the scope of this information to provide the location of the customized boot disk. However, for most configurations,
finding the customized boot disk is an easy task. The "Format" command shows all available disks:
    #format
    Searching for disks...done
    AVAILABLE DISK SELECTIONS:
(enter its number): c) Enter d to exit format.
Now, you will have an idea what disks are on the system. Therefore, if the boot-device is "disk" and format shows "c0t0d0" (on some systems "c0t3d0") then that is the boot device. If boot-device
shows "disk1" and format shows "c0t1d0," then that is the boot device. If format shows multiple disks, then based on what the "eeprom boot-device" command shows, the system's boot disk would be:
    boot-device format
disk c0t0d0 or c0t3d0 (machine dependent)
    disk1 c1t0d0
    disk2 c0t2d0
    disk3 c0t3d0 or c0t0d0 (machine dependent)
    and so on ....
    5) Because the system was not brought down gracefully (no root password means having to use the Stop-a keystroke to "crash" the system), you need to run "fsck" to clean the root partition (slice). The fsckalso confirms that you selected the proper slice.
    # fsck /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s0
where the X and Y are determined by the previous procedure. It is also possible to have a root partition which is not on slice 0 (s0), but, again, that is not a standard configuration.
The output of "fsck" looks like this:
    ** /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s0
    ** last mounted on /
    ** Phase 1 .....
The second line in the output of "fsck" ("** Last mounted on /") confirms that this is the correct root filesystem partition. Answer "y" to any questions fsck asks. There shouldn't be too many items
needing repair. If there are, there is a possibility of a corrupted root filesystem. After fsck is finished, mount the root partition:
    # mount /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0 /a
Again, X and Y are the same as for the fsck command.
    For example:
    # mount /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0 /a
    6) From the root prompt, set the proper TERM type command (such as vt100, dtterm, sun, and so on)
    by entering this command:
    # TERM=sun; export TERM
    7) Use the VI text editor to edit the /etc/shadow file:
    # vi /a/etc/shadow
    8) The first line of the /etc/shadow file is the one you want to modify.
    It looks like this:
    root:c3.yAVmYodWsc:6445::::::
    9) Delete every character between the first and second colons in the first line of the file. When you finish deleting the characters, the line should look like this:
    root::6445::::::
    10) Press the Escape key, then enter the following to save the file and exit vi:
    :wq!
    11) Use the VI text editor to edit the /etc/system file andremove the "rootdev" line shown below:
    # vi /a/etc/system
    *rootdev:/pseudo/md@0:0,0,blk
Don't comment out the "rootdev" line. Actually remove it.
    12) In the /a/etc/vfstab file, replace the lines for the system filesystem meta-devices with their underlying partitions. For example, change lines from
    /dev/md/dsk/d0 /dev/md/rdsk/d0 / ufs 1 no -
    to
    /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s0 / ufs 1 no -
ONLY change the lines for root (/) and the filesystems that were affected by the actions you took in step 1 of this procedure. All other metadevices may stay as is in this file.
    13) Unmount root, check the root filesystem, and then stop the system:
    # cd /
    # umount /a
    # fsck /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s0
    # stop-a
    14) Boot to single-user mode:
ok boot -swTHIS STEP IS VERY IMPORTANT; YOU MUST BOOT TO SINGLE-USER MODE TO AVOID FILESYSTEM CORRUPTION.
If the system does not boot to single user mode, you might have made a mistake in the previous steps.
    15) Because the root password was cleared in an earlier step, press Return when prompted for the the root password. Once you are in single-user mode, you must clear the metamirrors and all the sub-mirrors for the root filesystem. For example, if root (/) is d0, run the following command:
    # metaclear -f -r d0
Running the metaclear command not only clears the metamirror but also clears the submirrors that are part of this mirror.
    16) When the metamirror is cleared, continue the boot up to multiuser mode by either pressing CTRL-D or by entering the following:
    # exit
Now everything should be as it was, except that the system partition is on the underlying partition and isn't mirrored. You will simply need to re-create the metadevices for the root mirror as you had originally.
    many thanks

    Hi,
    Halt your machine.
    Boot with fail-safe mode.
format and list out the disks. (You can get the root & mirror disk (c#t#d#) details from /etc/lvm/md.tab of your root or mirror disk. Earlier explorer output may help)
Mount the root disk and remove the password entry in /etc/shadow
    umount it.
Mount the mirror disk and remove the password entry in /etc/shadow
    umount it.
    reboot the server.
    Hope this helps!

  • How do you install Windows 8.1 on a system with multiple hard drives?

Specifically a system with a User folder located on more than one drive. I have programs installed on both drives in order to save space on one (a small SSD boot drive). Upon trying to install windows 8.1, the Windows Store tells me my PC can't run Windows

Now follow this guilde untill the profiles directory
    http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/4275-user-profiles-relocate-another-partition-disk.html
    Change it to %SystemDrive%\Users
Finish the guide and let it do its thing. (This will leave your Users map on the HDD)
    Now activate the Administrator account
    http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/9650-built-administrator-account-enable-disable-windows-8-a.html
Remove the mklink of C:\Users. Then copy the (hidden) Default User profile from D:\Users to C:\Users (yes create Users on the C partition)
Then log off and log in as the admin account.
Create a new online account (get an alternate email or make an account alias at https://account.live.com/summarypage.aspx)
    Log in with that account.
Download and install the windows 8.1 Upgrade and let it finish everything (Took 3 hours at me)
Then login with your main account. It will generate a new account.
Restart your PC and login with the admin account.
Goto C:\Users and look what name it got. If the name is crappy then you can rename it at:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\<your profile ID>
    Then do a mklink /j C:\Users\<ProfileName> D:\Users\<ProfileName>
Now restart the pc and login on your main account.
If everything went well you will have your old account back.
Now you can remove the C:\Users map and do a mklink /j C:\Users D:\Users
P.S. My store doesn't work anymore after this...

I have no problems updating apps such as Adobe CC or iTunes but cannot update the operating system, can someone help me? Thanks.

    1. Restart the computer in safe mode. Certain caches maintained by the system will be rebuilt.
Safe mode is much slower to start up than normal. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
When the login screen appears, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and test. There's no need to log in while in safe mode.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t start in safe mode. In that case, go to Step 2.
If there's no change after taking this step, continue.
    2. Back up all data before proceeding.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /var/folders
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "folders" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

    Hi Andrey,
You need to reorganize whole tablespace, not only tables in order to reclaim the free space to the OS.
The prerequisite for online reorganization is:
    Oracle 9.2 database or higher.
The prerequisite for online conversion of the LONG-fields into LOB-fields:
    Oracle 10g database or higher.
Online conversion is supported for SAP kernel 7.00 or higher. For SAP kernel 6.40,
it is supported only in a restricted manner (see "Caution" in point III). Conversion is
not supported for SAP systems with a kernel lower than 6.40.
Check the note 646681 - Reorganizing tables with BRSPACE
