  • Stateful and Stateless BSP Application

    Hi Experts,
I would like to know what a stateful/Stateles BSP Applicaiton means. I read the description given in help file but couldn't get the full idea behind it. Could anyone give a practical example for the same and explain. Thanks.
    Regards,
    Prabaharan

Hi,A stateful BSP application is executed like a normal SAP transaction, – independent of all user interactions - in one single context (roll area). This means that data specified by the user during the application execution or data determined by the application itself is available potentially throughout the entire execution duration of the session.
Since the HTTP protocol itself operates in stateless mode and knows no implicit mechanism to assign independent requests to a common logical session, the BSP runtime uses Session Cookies to group requests into one common session. The name of the cookie is sap-contextid, the validity area is restricted to the URL of the BSP application. This means that a BSP application can be executed within a browser only once at any one time. Different BSP applications can operate in parallel in the same browser. Multiple users/browsers can execute the same BSP application in parallel as often as required.
    Advantage
The main advantage of stateful BSP applications is that they are simple to program. As usual, you have access to data determined previously and reading or re-calculating data can often be omitted. For database-intensive applications, this can lead to considerably better system performance compared to a procedure where identical read operations have to be executed for every request.
    Disadvantage
This significant advantage is at the same time however a disadvantage – the improved runtime is offset by a larger memory requirement. The number of possible parallel sessions in an SAP Web Application Server is restricted not least by the amount of available memory space. When this space is exhausted, no further sessions can be started and users cannot log on
Stateless BSP applications only block resources on the SAP Web Application Server during the time one single request is being processed. When the request has been processed, all resources in particular the application context are returned to the system for use in other requests.
Stateless applications allow - at least from the viewpoint of the memory resource – optimal scaling regardless of the number of users. On the other hand, releasing the application context after every request may mean that identical data is read from the database and formatted multiple times. In this respect, the runtime may offset the memory saving. This should be evaluated and analyzed on a case by case basis.
Rule of Thumb: Stateful or Stateless?
As a rule of thumb, it is recommended that Internet scenarios used at the same time by a large number of users operate in stateless mode. Stateful programming is recommended for more complex applications that are used by a limited number of users in parallel and that operate with data that is expensive to determine.
    hope this helps.
    regards,
    keerthi.

  • Statefull and stateless statements

    Hi Friends,
Could anybody explain statefull and stateless statements in webdynpro abap.
    thnaks in advance
    revatiraju

    Hi revatiraju,
Stateful applications are supported u2013 that is, if the page is changed and the required data remains intact so that you can access it at any time throughout the entire application context.
Note that stateless applications are not possible.

I'm currently on SAP v4.71. I'm trying to find out if WAS 6.2 is needed to develop and deploy BSP applications or is BSP available straight from the 4.71 box.

Hello sap gurus, I am new to ABAP. I alredy have SAP NetWeaver Enterprise Portal on MaxDB - Developer Edition Sneak Preview installed on my server. However I want to use the ABAP Development Workbench.  I do now want to buy a book with cds or go to the sap shop site to get minisap.

  • Download and upload bsp application

    Hi All,
Pl. guide me with my requirement. I have a bsp application in one server and for some reasons the same bsp application is required in another server but these two servers are not in land scape and hence i cannot transport. Is there any way to download the whole application and upload it into the target server. I feel this approach is silly but is there any other way or should i create it again fron the scratch in the new server.Pl. guide me.
    thanks & regards,
    jeeva.

    Hi Jeeva
Why dont you try the above link given by Raja..
It works fine .... You will get the sourcecode downloaded in a .bsp extension file for each page....But the only major problem is ... It doesnot talk about anything related to How to upload those files in the application....For that you had to take the help of BASIS ..
But if your problem get solved by just getting the source code downloaded then try this code...This is the same code that RAJA has linked to...Just paste the code in a report program...and execute it...

  • BSP Application in Portal and WebAS Authentication popup

    Hello,
we have a very well running SAP Portal SP14 and a BSP
    application running WebAS 6.20.
SSO between Portal and WebAS works perfect. Profiles are maintained and verify.der is imported.
    But:
From time to time we have users which open logon to
portal and execute the bsp application, authentication is successfull, but after a certain period of time or any unknown incident these users get a popup from webas and they are asked(forced) to enter their username and password. It seems to be that their session expired and they have to re-authenticate. But they are still logged on to Portal.
Can we prevent this popup from beeing shown to the user? Problem is, that they enter any password and they et locked
Does anybody have the same problem?
    Thanks
    Maik

    Hello Maik,
i am newbee in SAP.I have little proble with SSO.I am using Ep7.0
Though i have imported the verify.der file and installed the certificate still SSO
doesn't seem to be working.I am getting error as:
"not authorized for executing BSP application".
Do i need to give any particular role to users or  is any other setting required?

  • Session Management in BSP applications

    Hello,
I habe been developing the following application to send E-Mails from Outlook to SAP WEB AS Abap Stack:
    - I have created a COM-Addin in MS Outlook
    - When the user clicks on a button, that I have created, the currently marked E-Mail-Message is read
    - The E-Mail-Information is analysed
    - MS Internet Explorer is dynamically opened by my Outlook application
    - A html form is dynamically created
    - html form is posted dynamically to a BSP-application
-> Basically what I have is a HTML form, that is posted to a BSP application
I am facing the problem that Web AS is mixing up different sessions:
    - I have no user specified for my BSP application, that means whenever a client visits my page a login popup should appear
    - I have defined the first page of my web application as stateless
So what I expected was, that whenever my html form is posted to the Web AS, I get a logon popup, and everytime my web page is called a new session is started
Actually MS Internet Explorer and my BSP Web Application are acting differently:
When I post the html form for the first time, the logon popup appears and everything works fine
When I post the html form for the second time WITHOUT CLOSING THE FORMER INTERNET EXPLORER INSTANCE, the LOGON POPUP DOES NOT APPEAR, and the BSP application is using old, wrong data from the former html form
When I CLOSE ALL INTERNET EXPLORER INSTANCES, THE LOGON POPUP APPEARS, and I get the correct information for my BSP application
    ->
Whenever I have already sent a html form to the application and do not close all internet explorer instances, my BSP application mixes up old data
Whenever I have already sent a html form to the application and CLOSE all internet explorer instances, my BSP application is working fine.
I have the following settings for my BSP application in transaction SICF:
    - Logon Procedure: Stanadard
    - Anonymous Logon Data:
         Client: 301
         User: [blank]
         Password: [blank]
Does anybody have an idea how to get my application to work correctly?
    - I cannot change internet explorer settings as I have many clients and no authorization for that
    - I can change (maybe meta data?) the html form
    - Are there any settings of the BSP application that I can change, so that my application works fine
Thanks for your help in advance!
    Andreas

    Hello Sebastian,
    Thanks for your answer!!!
Unfortunately I cannot close the brower window via javascript, as my BSP application is not simply one page reveiving the form and sending one response page, but the BSP application consists of more pages (providing search functionalities,...).
    I have tried the following:
    - I have opened a new Internet Explorer application "IE-application1"
    - I have started my MS Outlook application which (dynamically) opened a new Internet Explorer "window2".
    - The Mail was saved to SAP
    - I closed the "window2"
    - I sent another mail to SAP via "window3"
-> SAP was still remembering the session of "window2" and mixed up the session (session info obviously was hold in "IE-application1")
I did not fully understand your answer refering to BSP Application "system" and its page "session_single_frame.htm" together with the source code of "session_single_frame.htm".
What I need is, to tell my startpage "index.htm" the following: Forget every cookie and session and whatever else you have had until now, take the input values of the html form and process them. Is this possible with "session_single_frame.htm"?

  • Assigning a BEx role to BSP - BSP application is missing in PFCG

    Hi everybody,
at first I will describe our problem.
We constructed a mixed environment web application, consisting out of a BSP application and WAD web templates. Unfortunately the url of web templates and the bsp-application differs - meaning the server is the same, but the port is different. That's why it is not easy to link the application each other, because for transportation reasons, we would like to have relative url paths.
After searching the SDN and reading several help files I draw the conclusion, that I have to put my BSP application into a BEx role. Correct? If anybody has a better approach, please raise your hand now!
So, I tried to create a role for my BSP application in the transaction PFCG. To specify the target I choosed entry type OTHER and BSP application. But in the appearing list of all BSP applications, my application was missing.
I really wondered about it, because similar BSPs from other authors within the sap/bc/bsp - folder appeared in the list.
Question: What are the prerequisites that a BSP application is available in the PFCG transaction?
Thanks for any comments and helps
    Best regards,
    Sebastian

    Hi Raja,
thank you for your quick reply.
you are looking at constructing the BW WAD url and call it from BSP, however the host address (port) differs and coz of that you cannot use relative urls.
Almost. I'm actually searching for the other way round. I want to call the BSP in an inlineframe of a WAD web template. But its exactly that port change issue, that causes the problem.
My BSP application is located in a subfolder of default_host/sap/bc/bsp/ ?
There are other BSPs in that folder which already appear in the PFCG transaction under OTHER.
    Best regards,
    Sebastian

  • Closing Server Session of a BSP application deployed on the Portal

I have a BSP application deployed on the Portal v. NW07.  This BSP application is a tab sitting besides other applications such as My Staff of MSS.
The BSP sets a lock like "CALL FUNCTION 'ENQUEUE' " and the backend system is SAP R/3 4.7.
QUESTION: How can I get the server session to terminate when the user navigates from the tab corresponding to my BSP application to the other tabs.
Currently, the session doesn't even close when I logoff completely from the Portal.  This BSP used to be deployed to users alone within the
IE browser and I was able to handle session management using JavaScript code similar to what's in page 'session_single_frame.htm' of BSP 'SYSTEM'.   However, when deployed to the Portal, that piece
of code doesn't seem to do anything.
"Supports Portal Integration" is checked and the BSP application is stateful.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Achille

for managing the backend session, all you have to do at the BSP app level is to set the supports portal integration flag, so that it generates the domain relaxation scripts.
it (ending backendsession) is the job of portal's DSM terminator. More on this can be read from http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/ca/a9a7408f031414e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm

    hi Sandeep ,
it is possible to use the BSP application inside WD ABAP or viceversa .
u can do it by eventing through portal .
you need to have the content admin role to ur user id on the portal .

This is required for eventing between the two applications .

  • Internal table content not retained in statefull BSP application.

    Hi Forum,
I have a statefull BSP application with two pages.I fill an internal table ITAB in the OnInputProcessing eventhandler of first page and then transfer this ITAB to second page , but when i navigate back from second page to first page , the internal table ITAB is cleared.I need the data in ITAB when i come back to first page.
The internal tables that i fill in the OnCreate eventhandler of the first page are intact but this  ITAB that  i fill in OnInputProcessing is cleared.
    I tried using
    runtime->keep_context = 1.
but it is not helping either...and i have checked the code carefully to ensure that ITAB is not cleared anywhere using CLEAR ITAB.
ITAB is declared in PAGE ATTRIBUTES using a tabletype.
    What might be the problem?
    Thanks,
    Anubhav.

    Hi Heth,
I carried out a small test application as follwos:
1)Filled an internal table ITAB_ZSCMG in OnCreate event of first page.
2)Filled an internal table ITAB_MATERIALS in OnInputProcessing for the OnClick of button event.
When my application was stateless the internal table ITAB_ZSCMG was initial in the OnInputProcessing event .
When i switched to STATEFULL mode , it contained data in the OnInputProcessing .
    3)Crearted one more page SECOND.HTM.
4)in the OnClick event for button in OnInputProcessing eventhandler i navigated back to FIRST.HTM .
Found that all the internal tables were initial , although my page was statefull.
All these ITABs were declared using Page Attributes.
So i guess , a statefull application just means that DATA is retained between different eventhandlers of the SAME PAGE and not if we navigate from that page....
Hence in my case i have to transfer the ITAB back to first page again using SERVER SIDE COOKIES..
Please correct me if my derivations are wrong!!!
    But the question still remains....
How to retain data after navigation?
Do we have a solution in BSP or we need to use SET/GET or EXPORT/IMPORT or COOKIES?
    Thanks,
    Anubhav.

  • How to call bsp application in workflow and process it...

    The requirement is ...
HR as (admin) -- in standard workflow selects apprasiee for 360 degree apprasial process(bsp application developed by me)..
aprasiee selects 10 employees and sends to HR
HR checks the employees list and their relationships
                            if
HR satisfies and clicks ok .. email will go to all 10 employees selected by apprasiee with a link
of 360 degree application developed in bsp..
                      else
HR says to reselect the employees to apprasiee.
when apprasier completes the form and submits both HR and appraisee gets a note that particular
    employee as filled your application..
for this process ... there r standard ones and i have to creare new ones ..
tell me which standard workflows  i can use for this and which one to and also how to create a new one...
i hope i can use HR and apprasiee selected by HR can be used as standard ones, which i want to copy and create a new one.

    Hi,
If you want to use a BSP in your workflow, this can fairly easy be done by incorporating your BSP as a webactivity in your own flow or into an existing one. Things to consider when creating webactivitysteps in your workflow are:
    - Making settings in WF_HANDCUST.
    - Make settings in SICF: here you have to activate the WSHANDLER (pad /default_host/sap/bc/webflow/wshandler) and your own BSP which is somewhere under pad /default_host/sap/bc/bsp/&name_of_your_bsp&
    - Make settings in WF_EXTSRV: here you can make settings between the import and export parameters of your BSP and the (future) parameters in your workflowtask. When all these settings are made correctly, you can generate a WF-task with the corresponding button in this transaction (a wizzard will be started). The connection between the task and your BSP will be stored in table SWLWPTSSID.
Try if you can figure it out with these transactions. Good luck!
