Step by Step instuctions on how to downgrade Server 2012 STD OEM to 2008 R2 STD OEM

I currently have MS Windows Sever 2012 STD purchased from Dell as a OEM, i also have media and a licesne key for a previous version MS Windows Server 2008 R2 STD , also purchased from Dell as an OEM. I have spoken to and confirmed that i can do a downgrade,
but i can't find any steps as how to do so. I keep finding links that refer me to my downgrade rights. What i am curious to know is what exactly do i need to do.
Please if anyone can give me a step by step guide i would be appreciative.

Hi,
Based on my research, Windows Server 2012 Standard edition can be downgrade to any prior version of Standard and Enterprise or Essentials editions. For more detailed information, please refer to the links below:

  • How to simulate server 2012+clients connetion in virtualbox without internet connection

Hi, I am new to this forum and also not familiar with simulation in virtualbox. I want to know how to simulate server 2012+clients connection in virtualbox without internet connection. I couldn't join the client computer (windows 7 installed) to
the domain (the  windows server 2012). I already added the DHCP , AD DS and DNS roles features in the windows server 2012. Can someone put me through?

If you're using VirtualBox you might be better off asking this over on their forum
https://forums.virtualbox.org/, since it's not a Microsoft product. That said I have used it myself, and I think what you need is to ensure you're using the Internal Networking option
http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch06.html#network_internal and make sure that both virtual machines have their network card setup with the same name / network ID. Once that's done you
can configure them on the same network range and they should be able to communicate.

  • How to activate Server 2012 Datacenter VMs using a DreamSpark retail key?

    Hello,
I got a Windows Server 2012 Datacenter Retail key, and I was wondering how I should activate my virtual machines in order to have them recognize that they are in fact, virtual machines and that I should get unlimited activations.
    From what I've
read elsewhere, (see Shane Cribbs' reply) I think you're supposed to get a separate product key for physical activations and another one for VM activations if you have a retail key. However, being a student, I got my key through DreamSpark,
and they only gave me the one retail key.
Is there any way I can activate my virtual machines in this scenario, or am I doomed to be VM-less?

    Hi,
For licensing related issue, you’d better contact Microsoft licensing team. In the United States and Canada, you may call
the licensing team directly at 1-800-426-9400 (select option 4), Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. (PST) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist. In this way, you will know the detailed information about license.
Worldwide customers can use the Guide to Worldwide Microsoft Licensing Sites

  • How to do Server 2012 R2 Network Policy Server MAC Authentication without adding ad users?

I have a Network Policy Server running on Server 2012 R2.  I have set it up to do certificate and PEAP authentication for our 802.1x wireless authentication
    and that works great.
Now I want to add a policy to this server so I can also do MAC address authentication our unauthenticated open wireless ssid so i can assign roles based on the
mac address.  I got our Aruba controller setup to send the mac address to the radius server, but the radius server just denies access because I am not sure how to get it to use themsNPCallingStationID attribute.
I have found several ways do to this included adding active directory users for every single MAC address with the mac address as the username and password.  I
do not want to do that.  This is not an option.
I have also found several posts about using ieee802Device.  I can't find a way to get that to work.
I also found a suggestion to use msNPCallingStationID ad attribute.  I can easily set this for each user as their mac addresses but how do I configure the
NPS server to use this attribute to authenticate this?
If you have any other ideas on how to get MAC authentication to work, I would greatly appreciate it!
    Thank you for your assistance!

    Hi,
I think you may have some misunderstand about the MAC address Authorization, MAC address authorization is based on the MAC address of the network adapter installed in
the access client computer. Like ANI authorization, MAC address authorization uses the Calling-Station-ID attribute instead of user name and password or certificate-based credentials to identify the user during the connection attempt.
MAC address authorization is performed when the user does not type in any user name or password, and refuses to use any valid authentication method. In this case, Network
Policy Server (NPS) receives the Calling-Station-ID attribute, and no user name and password. To support MAC address authorization, Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) must have user accounts that contain MAC addresses as user names, therefore you need
add the MAC address as the computer user name and password,
To use the MAC address as user name and password is Cisco® switch require condition, about your switch device please ask your hardware vendor.
If you want to combine the MAC address MAC filtering and
EAP Authentication, you can refer the following related article:

  • Possible to downgrade Server 2012 Standard R2 to R1?

Thanks in advance for any advice. Hopefully, I'm posting on the correct forum.
A client of mine recently purchased a Dell PowerEdge server that came with Windows Server 2012 Standard R2 pre-installed. While I was getting the server installed on site for the client, we discovered that the main software they intend to run on
this server has some sort of compatibility issue with R2 (I checked with support before purchasing and was told R2 would be fine, but they told me otherwise after we started having issues during the installation). So again, Server 2012 Standard is perfectly
fine....just not R2. Do I have any options here, or do I simply have to purchase a separate license?
I have the media to install Server 2012 Standard and gave that a shot, but it didn't like the R2 license key that's on the server's CoA sticker when I attempted to activate it.
Far as I know, R2 is not something I can just uninstall like an update, and I'm going to have to nuke it and fresh install Server 2012 Standard without R2 to do this.
I have tried contacting Dell and was told that purchasing a separate license would be my only option, as Server 2012 Standard vs Server 2012 Standard R2 are considered two separate products with no way to "convert" or "downgrade"
from R2. I'm willing to go that route of purchasing the different license if I have to (this server is otherwise an expensive paperweight/boat anchor until I get the proper OS on it), but I thought I'd try checking here first to see
if anyone knew of other options I might have.

    Hi, please check that;
Rights to server software are granted in the OEM License Terms. The OEM License Terms for most OEM versions released with or after the Windows Server 2003 R2 operating system allow for the user to downgrade to an earlier version. New products that do
not have earlier versions do not allow a user to downgrade. See the full text of the applicable OEM License Terms for the specific downgrade rights. (http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/8/9/68964284-864d-4a6d-aed9-f2c1f8f23e14/Downgrade_Rights.pdf)
    At this point, I think your best bet is to ask your revender a recovery media kit for 2012, or you can use a retail media kit, if I read that correctly;
    From there;http://www.microsoft.com/OEM/fr-ca/licensing/sblicensing/Pages/what_to_do_downgrade_rights.aspx#fbid=4ej9DrEQ_R6
End users can use the following media for their downgrades:
    retail (full
packaged product), or system builder edge-to-edge media (DVD), provided the
software is acquired in accordance with the Microsoft OEM System Builder
License. End users can use one legal version of the downgrade media for multiple
installations. They don't need to have one set of media for each PC they are
downgrading, because they have acquired legitimate full operating system
licenses for the most recent version, which gave them the right to downgrade.
In doubth, call the VLSC's center.

  • How to create server 2012 R2 image to be used as template for cloud?

    Hi,
I need help to create windows server 2012R2 image that can be used as template for AWS or Azure or any other cloud provider.
VM created from that template must
    1) be syspreped
    2) answer all setup questions
    3) must change computer name to unique name
    4) must automatically join VM to on-premise domain.
I need Microsoft supported way to do that. Does creating unattended answer file will help? But, I don't want to provide domain joining credentials in plain text. Where should I keep that answer file so that it can be used during setup process.
Is there any other ways to achieve that.
    Thank you.

    Did you remove Quicktime X?
On a normal install Quicktime 7 is installed in the Utilities folder and Quicktime Pro in the main Applications folder.
You will need to reinstall OS X to get Quicktime X back if you have deleted it.
I notice yor profile says 10.5.8. Quicktime X is only available on 10.6 and above.

  • How to migrate from exchange 2007 to 2013 step by step tutorials please

    Hi
I am running Windows Server 2008 standard, with exchange 2007 SP2 on it.
We have 800 mailbox in total
    Our domain controllers are
Win2012 R2 and I would like to upgrade to Exchange 2013 on Windows server 2012 R2.
I am running a VM, on VMware environment, so my Windows 2012 R2 is a VM.
Is there a website or document that explains in detail, step by step how to upgrade from 2007 to 2013.
I currently only have 1 exchange server 2007, with all the roles on the one server.  I would like to keep that same as
    well with exchange 2013.
    Thanks

  • Urgent help: How to remove the accumaltion when show movies step by step with buttons

I want to show the movie step by step by clicking the next
button. Inside each frame, many movie clips are generated
dynamically at runtime, and they can be played interactively.
I achieves the step-by-step display of those frames by adding
another layer with the action stop(). But I got one trouble: all
the movie clips from previous frames are accumalted. How to remove
    the accumulation from previous frames?
For the continuous display of the movie, I tried to use
onEnterFrame() and change the _visible property of all the movie
clips to false in this function. But it doesn't work for the
step-by-step display. Once I click the next button, the movie clips
at the current frame just show very quickly, then disappear. What
    should I do?
I need to fix this immediately.
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
    - zcx

you can use the removeMovieClip() method for those movieclips
    added dynamically.

  • Help wanted - step by step process on how to use two ipods on one computer

I'm just in the process of getting an ipod (waiting on delivery!) and want to know how it is possible to have two ipods using the same computer but synchronizing differently. I don't want to risk losing my partners music (he'll be very upset!) and I don't want to end up with his music on my ipod. I'd appreciate it if someone could give me a step by step guide or tell me where the best place to look for the answer is. Is it possible somehow to have two different libraries on one computer? Is that how it works?

There are a couple of methods for using more than one iPod on a single computer. Have a look at the article linked below. Method one is to have two Mac or Windows user accounts which by definition would give you two completely separate libraries. Method two as Chris has already described above is to set your preferences so each iPod is updated with only certain playlists within one library. Have a look anyway and see what you think and go for whichever you feel suits your needs best: How To Use Multiple iPods with One Computer
