Step-by-Step to wrap a vbs into an .exe

Here is a way to use Iexpress 2.0 to wrap your VBS scripts into an .exe. Iexpress 2.0 is native to Win XP and Win 7 and is quite useful when you have a VBS that is dependent on other files, like and install program or even an HTA. Once you have created the .EXE package a .SED file is also create in the same directory, which is the instructions for the Iexpress.exe. You can edit the .SED file in notepad and then run the iexpress wizard and select Open Existing Self Extraction Directive file and create your new package. This is helpful when you want to add new files, change the command line, or the output directory, you do not need to go through the whole package process again. Below are the instructions on how to create a new .EXE using Iexpress 2.0.
1.     On a computer running Windows XP or Windows 7, click Start, click Run, enter iexpress, and click OK. This starts the IExpress Wizard.
2.     On the Welcome to IExpress 2.0 page, select Create new Self Extraction Directive file and click Next.
3.     On the Package purpose page, select Extract files and run an installation command and click Next.
4.     On the Package title page, type a title for your package and click Next.
5.     On the Confirmation prompt page, select No prompt and click Next.
6.     On the License agreement page, select Do not display a license and click Next.
7.     On the Packaged files page, click Add and select the vbs script from the directory in which it resides:
8.     When you finish adding files, click Next.
9.     On the Install Program to Launch page, in the Install Program box, type c:\windows\system32\cscript.exe “yourVBS.VBS”  OR  c:\windows\system32\wscript.exe “yourVBS.VBS” Leave the Post Install Command box BLANK.
10.  On the Show window page, select Hidden and click Next.
11.  On the Finished message page, select No message and click Next.
12.  On the Package Name and Options page, enter the path and filename that you want for this distribution package. Check both boxes and click Yes to the warning under Options and click Next.
13.  On the Configure restart page, select No restart and click Next.
14.  On the Save Self Extraction Directive page, select Save Self Extraction Directive (SED) file:, edit the path and name of the file, and click Next.
15.  On the Create package page, click Next. When the package has been created, click Finish to exit.
16.  The package will now be created with the name you specified and have an extension of .EXE ex. “yourVBS.EXE”

Self Extraction Directive (SED) file Explained
Here is a copy of a Self Extraction Directive (SED) file. Keep in mind you can IExpress 2.0 to create an .EXE for many items like batch files, Inf files, VBS files and other .exe files. For
this purpose we are talking about VBScripts. You can edit this file and "recompile" your .exe. Why would you want recompile your .exe? To name a few you might find unwanted behavior in your VBS or you may need to add additional files and you don't want to
have to go through the entire IExpress setup again, so you would change data in this file and in two clicks your app is recompiled.
First, let’s talk about some important sections in this SED file. There are five sections Version, Options, Strings, SourceFiles, and SourceFiles0. When editing your SED files you will
be mostly working in the Strings, SourceFiles, and SourceFiles0 sections, most of the Options section was done when you created the package for the first time.
Here is the strings section with comments:
[Strings]

‘Use if you want the user to confirm your install, I never use this option.

    My old iPod Nano says to use iTunes to restore and I've followed all suggested help steps, but I can't get it into disk mode nor can I get it to show in my computer or in iTunes.  I have the latest version of iTunes.  Windows has all the most recent updates too.  I can reset the iPod, but the message to Use iTunes to restore comes back and I am stuck.

    Already tried another USB port, still nothing.
    I don't have another PC to check, I only have one which is the one not working with my iPod.
    It appears under my Computer, just not under iTunes. Plus, the iPod classic troubleshooting assistant doesn't work because I can't restore since it can't come up onto my iTunes! Even my iPod says "Use iTunes to Restore" once in a while, but I plug it in & I'm not able to restore it since it won't come up under iTunes.
    Please help

  • Step-by-step process of grouping Items in Category Sets and more accurately into the correct Category

    Honestly, I have never had a customer ask me 'how' do I identify which Items go together in a specific category.  I am thinking I start with the Functional Area (Inv, PO, OM, WM, etc..) attributes, and start the grouping there.  The customer is asking for "best practices" - any input would be appreciated.
    I have a fresh install of Oracle Inventory, Purchasing, Order Management, Service - We have 2,000,000 part numbers.
    How have you instructed your customers/clients (both Internal and External) in the PROCESS of categorizing all of their Items?
    What is the Step-by-step process of grouping those 2MM items into accurate Category Sets and more accurately into the most correct Category.
    I would 'assume' it would start with some analysis with all the Items listed with all the item attributes, and start with ECCN (for example) or Item Type grouping. Then...(?)
    Thanks!

    No answer to No.1 but I really want to find it out too.
    No.2
    If you already know list of the categories & ID you can manually create a list of checkboxes
    <input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Category" value="89081" />
    <input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Category" value="89082" />
    <input type="checkbox" name="CAT_Category" value="89083" />
    something like that should work

    I don't understand why. Please help me this problem. I must do how to load this cap
    Thanks & Best Regards
    Kelvin Nguyen

    Hi,
    You need to delete the old CAP file before loading it again. The problem is that when you call INSTALL FOR LOAD it sees there is already a CAP file with that AID present.

  • Step- by- Step on How to Load Excel data into Crystal Reports?

    Hi Friends,
                      Can anyone send me a Step- by- Step on How to Load Excel data into Crystal Reports? Pls help me. Thanks in Advance.
    Vijay

    It's also important to 'prep' the excel file prior to connecting to it.
    Give the data tab a meaningful name
    Make sure the column headers are unique and that every column has a header
    Delete any blank tabs
    If you have trouble with Excel changing the data type of a field (say, a social security number you want to be a string value rather than a number so you don't lose leading zero) an alternative would be to save the spreadsheet file as a CSV, create a schema.ini to specify the data types for each column (example below) and use the same steps to connect except instead of choosing Excel 8.0, scroll to the bottom and choose Text.  You have to make sure the CSV file is in the same folder as the schema.ini file that defines the columns.
    Schema.ini example:
    200912PUSD.csv
    ColNameHeader=True
    Format=CSVDelimited
    MaxScanRows=25
    CharacterSet=OEM
    Col1=SSN Char Width 9
    Col2=LAST_NM Char Width 25
    Col3=FIRST_NM Char Width 25
    Col4=DOB Date
    Col5=STDNT_ID Char Width 10
    Col6=SORTKEY Char Width 10
    Col7=SCHOOL_NM Char Width 30
    Col8=OTHER_ID Integer
    Col9=GRADE Char Width 2
    The filename in the first line needs to have the []  brackets around it, but I couldn't get it to display in this forum correctly.

  • Where the string "failed" is created in steps in the main sequence to fill into Parameter.Result PostUUT in the NI teststand II courese example 4-1 Modifying callback.seq

    For PostUUT in  the NI teststand II  courese example 4-1 Modifying callback.seq, there are two steps, one is Test Passed,
    the other is Test Failed, both set each preconditions, for example, Parameters.Result.Status == "Failed"  in the test failed step, if the step failed in the main sequence,the string "failed " is filled into Parameters.Result.Status
     but I can't find where the string "failed" is created in steps in the main sequence.
     Because I can't find any expression in any steps  to fill into Parameters.Result of  the test failed step in the PostUUT.
    In fact, when running if step fails, the string "failed " is filled into Parameters.Result.Status
     Would you please  explain for it ?
    thanks,

    Hi,
    Look at the Sequential Model Sequence File, and either the sequence SinglePass of Test UUTs for the step that invokes the step Post UUT.
    Then look at the Parameter List for the SequenceCall for that step. you will find your answer.

    What are the steps to insert a check or X into a PDF box?

    Provided the PDF form was properly created (checkboxes inserted as opposed to text boxes for the viewer to check when the page is printed) you just click as Test Screen Name replied. If not, you'll have to print the filled form and check the boxes yourself - by hand.

  • Step by Step Instructions of loading Excel into SSIS via OLE Data Source Microsoft.ACE instead of Excel connection manager

    Hi,
    I have a very large Excel workbook which I need to load into SSIS. Using the default Excel connection manager SSIS seems to load the entire work sheet into memory before performing any operation even after setting IMEX=1 within the connection string.
    Can anyone provide me with step by step instructions on how to use  OLE Data Source Microsoft.ACE please?
    I've found the link; -
    https://www.connectionstrings.com/ace-oledb-12-0/
    Which looks very useful.
    Since I currently have Excel 2010 as my data source I tried; -
    Data Source=C:\PoC\POC_Data_Source\my.xlsx;Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Extended Properties="Excel 12.0 Xml;HDR=YES ;IMEX=1";
    The connection test successfully. However SSIS still seems to be loading the entire work sheet into memory before starting the data load.
    Kind Regards,
    Kieran.

    Thanks again Koen,
    I am developing remotely on a development server. So when I run SSDT I am running it within the development server box. My current technology / environment mix means I can't run SSDT from my local desktop.
    I am pretty sure that scanning of the rows is an issue causing performance, e.g. if I just click on the data source component SSDT freezes for several minutes, unless I just have a cut down version of the Excel file, say first 5,000 rows, then the response
    of SSDT is acceptable.
    Also when I have SSDT pointing to the full spreadsheet and I click around in the associated Data Flow I notice devenv.exe* 32 slowing grabbing 4gb of RAM and releasing it according to Windows Task Manager.
    Kind Regards,
    Kieran.

  • Step By Step To Import Excel Spreadsheet Into SQL Server & Save Package

    Can someone provide a link or detail how to do this for me?  There are several options some of which I have no clue what do that I would like to understand so thought I would ask someone with more experience for a step by step.  Dumb it down
    for a dumby.

    SSIS is certianly one option, but you don't NEED to use SSIS for this.  please see these links.

    There are many options available to you as well.  Let me know if you need some more ideas of how to do what you are proposing to do.
    Knowledge is the only thing that I can give you, and still retain, and we are both better off for it.

  • Insert 1d array into 2d array step by step by clicking a button

    Hello. I work on a project, whicht helps me to analyse graphs. I want to export values to only one spreadsheet  For each measurement the values will be exported to an 1D array. The analysis of the graph works by moving cursor lines. Now what I want to do is to add 1D array of each measurement to an 2D array step by step by pressing a button, so that I’m able to get a table of values of the whole graph. With every button click, a new row (n+1) with the new values of the measurement schould be created  in the 2d array. The first row schould have index 0.  If there is no measurement anymore, the content of trhe 2D array should be stored to a text file.
    Please help me out!!!
    Thx.

    Most likely, your modification is stuck at the event structure. Try to add an empty timeout event so the event structure does not block the rest of the code.
    To get e.g. the subarray between two cursors, you could do something like in the attached modification (of course it is a bit inefficient, because it does it over and over again while the loop is running, even if the cursors do not change).
    What is your LabVIEW version? LabVIEW 8.0 has events that are triggered by movements of the graph cursors. Quite useful!

  • Step by step ABS pkg creation docs?

    Hello.
    I've been reading over the wiki and forum about building packages for Arch with ABS.  I'm having a hard time grasping the actual specific steps required to get it done.
    I'm willing to admit that I'm not a genius at this, and that the docs do seem to contain all the information necessary, but I want to make a suggestion:
    Could someone maybe draw up a linear, STEP by STEP outline of what needs to be done to get packages built?
    Like I said, I've read the wiki and I'm doing the best I can, but so far, I'm having difficulties...
    Thanks, guys.  Keep up the great work.

    I'm actually trying to build my own packages and I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the directions.
    I was wishing there was something more like:
    1) put foo-ver.tar.gz in /wherever/
    2) PKGBUILD goes in /wherever/foo/
    3) extract pkg src to /wherever/foo/
    Right now...I'm just unsure I'm following the directions.  I put the downloaded tar.gz file in my /var/abs/local/ dir, created a directory for the pkg "pyrex" and created a PKGBUILD within that dir.  Should I now extract the tar.gz file to /var/abs/local/pyrex/src?
    Then I should make sure the build is set up correctly, and I run the same commands I put in the pkgbuild from the terminal?
    Then I makepkg?
    Hmmm...  I'm commited to doing this, because not only could I then have all my software installed with pacman's knowledge, but I could also share the pkgs...I'm trying to put together the rox-related pkgs I want to use on my desktop.
    Another thing is that this "pyrex" package doesn't follow the normal configure, make, make install paradigm.  It has a simple .py script for all of that. The Install.txt file (follows) seems to offer no real options...How would this be handled???
    Pyrex - Installation Instructions
    =================================
    You have two installation options:
    (1) Run the setup.py script in this directory
        as follows:
            python setup.py install
        This will install the Pyrex package
        into your Python system.
    OR
    (2) If you prefer not to modify your Python
        installation, arrange for the directory
        containing this file (INSTALL.txt) to be in
        your PYTHONPATH. On unix, also put the bin
        directory on your PATH.
    See README.txt for pointers to other documentation.
    I know it'll be different for each pkg, but I'm just a bit stuck right now.  Maybe a nudge in the right direction?  Thanks.
