Steps to prepare and upload legacy master data excel files into SAP?

Hi abap experts,
We have brand new installed ECC system somehow configured but with no master or transaction data loaded .It is new empty system....We also have some legacy data in excel files...We want to start loading some data into the SAP sandbox step by step and to see how they work...test some transactions see if the loaded data are good etc initial tests.
Few questions here are raised:
-Can someone tell me what is the process of loading this data into SAP system?
-Should this excel file must me reworked prepared somehow(fields, columns etc) in order to be ready for upload to SAP??
-Users asked me how to prepared their legacy excel files so they can be ready in SAP format for upload.?Is this an abaper job or it is a functional guy job?
-Or should the excel files be converted to .txt files and then imported to SAP?Does it really make some difference if files are in excel or .txt format?
-Should the Abaper determine the structure of those excel file(to be ready for upload ) and if yes, what are the technical rules here ?
-What tools should be used for this initial data loads? CATT , Lsmw , batch input or something else?
-At which point we should test the data?I guess after the initial load?
-What tools are used in all steps before...
-If someone can provide me with step by step scenario or guide of loading some kind of initial master data - from .xls file alignment to the real upload - this will be great..

I got a requirement to upload an excel file to SAP.
But When i tried with the FM "ALSM_EXCEL_TO_INTERNAL_TABLE" , file not getting uploaded to internal table.
Getting expection 2, UPLOAD_OLE...
I think the problem is with the file... the following the sample text of the file...

Use the FM: TEXT_CONVERT_XLS_TO_SAP. It will work perfectly. I used this function module and uploaded data from xls to sap. check the following code:

Can anybody help how to upload an excel file into sap-crm urgent

hi guys,
i need the right function module to upload the excel file from the presentation server in to sap-crm.
1) I know we use the function module 'ALSM_EXCEL_TO_INT_TABLE' in sap-r/3 but this function module is not exist in sap-crm.
2) i tried with the function moduel 'GUI_UPLOAD' but its not uploading correctly i am gettting hases(#).
Please can any one provide the right function module to upload the excel into sap-crm with an sample code.

Depends on data we upload the data from file to R/3 .
If it is regular updation then we used to get the data from application server files to R/3 since local file updation we can not set up background processing..
If it is master data upload and that to one time upload then we use presenation server files to SAP R/3..

Upload data from multiple worksheets of excel file into SAP by using MIME?

Hi all,
I'm trying to getting the data from a multiple worksheet excel file by usin the MIME Repository.
First of all i realizied it like [here|http://abap-explorer.blogspot.com/2008/12/upload-data-from-multiple-worksheets-of.html] in a normal ABAP Report.
By trying to transfer the code to a WebDynpro Component, i get problems.
With this part of code, because ActiveX is not allowed in our Webbrowser. So i have to find another solution to get the data from the excel file.

So my next step was trying to Read the Excel sheet directly from MIME by getting the Content (XString).

Maybe someone has an idea how to rebuild [this code|http://abap-explorer.blogspot.com/2008/12/upload-data-from-multiple-worksheets-of.html] in Webdynpro that it works correctly.
Currently Im Using the Fileupload UI Element. All Works fine. I can Upload the Excel file to MIME Repository and i can open it from there.
But i cant get the same clear informationen from the file, to write it later in a Database, like before without webdynpro.
i hope someone can help me.

You can't read the native binary Excel Format in server side ABAP. The functions and classes that did this in Classic Dynpro used OLE Automation via the SAPGUI Control Framework to remotely control Excel to read the data. Because in the browser you have no connection to the SAPGUI or are sandboxed inside the browser; the same functionality is not possible.
I would suggest that you look into saving the Excel file as a open, text format. You might be able to use XML (although the Excel XML format can be complex) to support multiple sheets. You would have to build the logic yourself (using XSLT or the iXML parser) to process the XML format back into ABAP data.

Upload long text from excel file into internal table

I need to upload service master(T-code : AC02) data alongwith long text.Now i have data in excel as: Service no(ASMD-ASNUM) and corresponding long text for it.
I am facing problem in getting entire lontext from excel into my internal table.It only takes till 255 characters i think.Any help in this regard woulg be highly appreciable.

what is the maximum length of your long text.
and you can try with more than 255 chars. in the internal table it will take , if you want check it.
i'm in 4.7 ,5.0 version, what about you ..

Uploading data from a particular column of a particular sheet from an excel file into internal table

I have to upload data in the first coulmn of 7th sheet of an excel file.
Can anyone please help me on this.
This link works perfectly fine for excel files without Macros.

And after the macro enable/disable popup is cleared, the system freezes.

Error Raised while uploading Excel file to SAP

I am getting error while uploading excel file into SAP using the function module 'TEXT_CONVERT_XLS_TO_SAP'.
Error Message is UX(893) - 'Excel file & cannot be processed' .

1 .TEXT_CONVERT_XLS_TO_SAP Funtion module will work if you have installed Microsoft Excel at front end.
2. Whenyou declare internal table for upload, specify the char only in the strcture ,don't specify any data element or dictionary reference.    If the data element and dictionaly reference is character field then its ok.
eg.

3. Close the excel before you upload

I need to upload condition master data.Requirement is through Price List price should be captured.For that i created a excel sheet for the following data.
Sales Organisation- KOMG-VKORG
Distribution Channel-     KOMG-VTWEG
Price List- KOMG-PLTYP
Document Currency-KOMG-WERK
Material Desc-KOMG-MATNR
Amount-KONP-KBETR
Rate Unit-KONP-KONWA
Unit Of Measure-KONP-KMEIN
Valid from: RV13A-DATAB
Valid To-    RV13A-DATBI
Now wherthe it is the job of the consulatant to maintain records for all the material for the above fields or it will be done by core user.
And after maintaining all the data in excel sheet what is the next step?
We will be using LSMW for data uploading.

Hi,
Has Rithvika explained its much similar.
But it is always consultant job to upload the master data which is required.
So 1st collect the required data form the user for all the fields.
Perform the LSMW by recording for one of the record through vk11.save the recording
Can take the help of ABAP consultant in case of difficulty.
Then prepare the file as you entered the values when recording.
Test in fore ground for one or two records, then test for 5 to 10 records in background, if you feel everything perfect then upload all the records in background.

Error while uploading HR master data from inQuality server

Hi, Expert. While uploading of MAster data from Developement to Quality by BDC. When program starts for Tcode PA40, selecting Hiring Action, it is goining to the Action Screen. Here while taking the position from HR template, it gives error as Position is not in Table T428B. Payroll area on the date (Date of original hiring, of the person) it is taking DM as defalt in place of our created Area and terminating. When i am trying entering the data manually, it is giving same error for Position. I am not able to upload the data. Kindly help me by suggesting me the correct sequence and steps for uploading the data. Correct answer will be provided with STARSSSSSS **. Regds Punit.

Have all your configurations been transported to Quality?
Have you created the positions before initiating BDC for Hiring?
Check Feature ABKRS in Quality. Is this same as in Development?
Is your BDC running OK in Development?
