DB upgrade during a Solaris upgrade using live upgrade feature
Hello,
Here is the scenario. We are currently upgrading our OS from Solaris 9 to Solaris 10. And there is also a major database upgrade involved too. To help mitigate downtime, the Solaris Live Upgrade feature is being used by the SA's. The DB to be upgraded is currently at 9i and the proposed upgrade end state is at 10.2.0.3.
Does anyone know if it is possible to do at least part of the database upgrade in the alternate boot environment created during the live upgrade process? So lets say that I am able to get the database partly upgraded to 10.2.0.1. Then, I want to run the patch set for 10.2.0.3 in the alternate boot environment and do the upgrade of the instance there too so that when the alternate boot environment is booted to the primary boot environment, I can, in effect, just start up the database.
That's sort of a high level simplified version of what I think may be possible.
Does anyone have any recommendations? We don't have any other high availability solutions currently in place so options such as using data guard do not apply.
Thanks in advance!Hi magNorth,
I'm not a Solaris expert but I'd always recommend not to do both steps (OS upgrade and database upgrade) at the same time. I've seen to many live scenarios where either the one or the other has caused issues - and it's fairly tough for all three parties (You as the customer, Sun Support, Oracle Support) to find out the end what was/is causing the issues.
So my recommendation would be:
1) Do your Solaris upgrade from 9 to 10 and check for the most recent Solaris patches - once this has been finished and run for one or two weeks successfully in production then go to step 2
2) Do your database upgrade - I would suggest not going to 10.2.0.3 but directly to 10.2.0.4 because 10.2.0.4 has ~2000 bug fixes plus the security fixes from April2008 - but that's your decision. If 10.2.0.3 is a must then at least check Note:401435.1 for known issues and alert in 10.2.0.3 and for both cases the Upgrade Companion: Note:466181.1
Kind regards

Hi,
Can any one provide me the procedure/steps to upgrade the OpenSSL version from 0.9.7d to 0.9.8za in Solaris 9 ?
I did Google search on this. But unfortunately didn't get any documents/answers regarding this.
Thanks in advanceAs these both version are incompatible in term of API, we don't provide it. But, you can still find and download from internet like from the Sunfreeware website or from one of these mirrors.

I would like to upgrade GIMP in Solaris 10 to the version used in Solaris Express DE.
What is the best way to do this?i didnt however i wasnt hammering it. if the load was expected to be high i would have done the io layout diff (try and follow some of oracles ideas: SAME for one, if possible).
some depends on the load and the load from the other zones. you can use allocate resource limits to give more priority to more important zones or make sure you have enough resources to start. what type of load are you expecting? -
Can't upgrade V245 to Solaris 10 5/09
Hi!
We have a *{color:#800000}V245{color}* running Solaris 10 8/07 with the following firmware:
SC Version v1.6
SC Bootmon Version v1.6.1
Firmware version 1.18.05.00
My /etc/vfstab shows a mirrored drive (I didn't set it up)
h4. /dev/md/dsk/d10 /dev/md/rdsk/d10 / ufs 1 no logging
h4. #/dev/dsk/c0t0d0s3 /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s3 /metadb ufs 2 yes logging
When trying to upgrade the system, after verifying the OS, I get this message:
h4. The Solaris Version (Solaris 10) on slice d10 (c0t0d0s0
h4. c1t1d0s0) cannot be upgraded.
h4. A file system listed in the file system table (vfstab) could not
h4. be checked by fsck.
So it forces me to install a fresh OS, which we want to avoid.
I mention the firmware version because I have another server (exact same configuration apparently) and I was able to upgrade without a problem, but it had the old firmware ( *1.08.04.00*)
Anybody has experience with this?
Can I downgrade the firmware version to upgrade the OS and the upgrade the FW again?Sorry to tell you, but 10.6 will only install on intel machines, your G5 is not an intel machine, it's a PowerPC.

LDAP over SSL for Solaris 9 / Solaris 10
I have successfully configured Solaris-10 clients to use Windows 2003 R2 Active Directory for LDAP authentication over SSL. However, my production environment is still running on Solaris-9. I am able to make Kerberos and ldapsearch working on Solaris-9, but I am still NOT able to use PuTTY to make authentication with AD.
I reviewed all my steps that I configured on Solaris-10, but somewhat I could not make it work on Solaris-9. If anybody sucessfully deployed on Solaris-9, please advices! Any helps greatly appreciated.
Here are what I got so far on Solaris-9

I am thinking about pam.conf file or ldapclient's configuration file, any suggestion?I have now sat down and looked at your suggestion and I am pretty certain we can't implement it ... :( I was hoping it was just going to be configuration files that were copied (maybe a naive hope, but there you go!) This system is going to be deployed as a live service for a government agency so I do not think we can, in all good conscience, have binaries from two different OS releases residing on the same server as it will make the system nigh-on non-patchable.
Let's hope Sun have somethig constructive to say about our issue which, I am slowly beginning to think, is related to the password.
If I su to the test AD user we have whilst logged in as a root user (which does not, of course, prompt for a password) it all works nicely - home directory, shell, the id command gives all that is expected of uid and gid. Now, should I be in a as a non-root user and try the same I get prompted for a password and it all fails - despite me providing what should be the correct password.
If I do a getent for the user the returned data has a blank for the password field (as opposed to the usual x).
I think that somewhere, somehow, in the transmission of data that the password is getting a level of encryption that the AD is not setup to unravel. The packets are all encrypted through ldap (we are using tls simple) but what of the password within the packet? Does anything encrypt that first, and if so, does AD know how to decrypt it? -

Steps to upgrade Bw Objects from BW 3.5 to BW 7.0
I have upgraded a NW2004(BW3.5) system to NW2004s(BW 7.0) .
After upgrade i see that the infocubes, infoobjects are still in BW 3.5 Concept itself.
When i open each object and save it , it is changing to BW 7 Object. But there are about 10000 objects. Please let me know the steps to upgrade the Objects to BW 7.0Just upgrade.
There are some guides in service.sap.com and lots of notes on upgrade.
Reg efforts, it is totally dependent on the no of objects, etc to upgrade / convert and so many other factors. Even a rought estimate will not be possible without the knowledge of the system.

Hi Support,
Could anyone please provide the steps to upgrade Oracle Database EE from 11.2.0.3.8 to 11.2.0.4.0.
Thanks
ImtiyazYou will need to install 11.2.0.4 into a new ORACLE_HOME, apply the latest 11.2.0.4 PSU patch to the new ORACLE_HOME (see MOS Doc 1454618.1) and then follow the steps in the Upgrade Guide

We have two node clusterware installed and we want to upgrade the oracle clusterware from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.2 can any one share the steps for upgrade.
Regards
Naveen DuttHi Rajeys,
I read all the documents but i was not able to find the information that i was looking. Below i am providing my cluster node configuration and version -
1) No of Node in cluster - 2 (node1 ,node2)
2) OCR (clusterware) version - 10.2.0.4
3) Storage type - NAS storage (we are not using ASM).
Now link provided by you is to upgrade ASM from 10.2.0.3 to 11GR2 but we are not using ASM as storage we are using NAS storage. Do we have any link or document that help me to upgrade oracle clusterware only without ASM from version 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.2 .
Thanks in advance

Steps to Upgrade PT8.49 to 8.50 Manually without using an Upgrade Template
Folks,
Hello. I am Upgrading PeopleTools 8.49 to 8.50 Manually without using an Upgrade Template because I cannot download an Upgrade Template from Oracle.
Upgrading is actually add/drop some tables/views in PeopleTools 8.49 Database using Chang Assistant 8.50.
According to the document "Enterprise PeopleTools 8.50 Upgrade" Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, after configure Change Assistant 8.50 and EMF, we need to creat an Upgrade job and run some scripts.
I have configured Change Assistant 8.50 and EMF. EMF run successfully. After that, I don't know the exact steps to do in Change Assistant.
Can any folks tell me the steps to upgrade PT8.49 to 8.50 manually in Chang Assistant without using an Upgrade Template after configure Change Assistant and EMF ?
Thanks.Do you know what is Change Assistant ? It is running job defined from template and indicate when step has to be done manually. But Change Assistant itself is nothing but an assistant, it does not build record, it does not run DMS, it does not run sql script, for all those Change Assistant is calling corresponding tools (AppDesigner, DataMover, SQL*Plus). Consequently, if you don't have template, you should do yourself every single step usually ran by the PsCA, but you won't need PsCA itself, just run manually whatever indicated in the doc (basically replace "PsCA" by "manually").
As I already told you earlier, it is tedious, but works fine if you pay attention enough.

Steps to upgrade vsom from 6.3 to 7.2
Hi All.
one of our customer needs to upgrade his existing vsom and vsms from 6.3 to 7.2 and he
has purchased the below licenses and he dont need any of the existing data.
L-CPS-M-OM-SW7
L-CPS-M-MS-SW7
L-CPS-M-SASD-7.
as this is the first time I am upgrading to 7.2 can anyone please help me in this regard with simple steps to upgrade to 7.2 and do we need any other things apart from the above licensesLooking at your licensing, it appears that you have a fairly simple environment. If so, this doesn't have to be complex at all since the customer doesn't need any of the existing data. The simple solution would be to document your settings, approach this as a fresh install, and put your settings back.This will bypass any need for migration tools that might be needed to convert your database and save archives. I have no experience with these tools, so I'm not sure of their full capabilities.
About a year ago, due to learning the system and some poor configuration choices on the disk, I needed to migrate my 7.0 cameras to a new 7.2 system that was configured correctly. Here's how I did it.
1) Document, document, document. Take screenshot of all your settings. Take a backup of the database. Document the number of cameras you have, the number of templates, number of encoders, etc. This data will be used for verification after your migration.
2) Connect to the MySQL database and write queries to obtain the necessary information that is needed to do a bulk import (using Excel) of your cameras, encoders, templates, etc. Below is the SQL I used for my IP cameras. Note: Since analog cameras are configured differently, I used a seperate SQL for these. You should have a seperate SQL for each device type. Copy the results into an Excel spreadsheet.
****** List IP Cameras **********************
select a.name, a.model,
d.ipaddress,
e.name as 'Template',
f.name as 'Server',
(select name from groupinfo where objectid = a.location_objectid) as 'location',
(select name from groupinfo where objectid = a.pointtolocation_objectid) as 'pointToLocation'
from camera a,
networkconfig b, networkconfig_network_interface c, network_interface d,
devicetemplate e,
server f
where a.networkconfig_objectid=b.objectid and
b.objectid=c.networkconfig_objectid and
a.networkconfig_objectid=b.objectid and
c.networkinterfaces_objectid=d.objectid and
a.devicetemplate_objectid=e.objectid and
a.managedby_objectid=f.objectid and
a.objecttype=6
order by location;
3) Build out the new system using VMWare (or some other virtualization solution) to test your configurations that you saved in Excel. (This will also let you get the new spreadsheets so you can know what data you need for the import.) This will help you ensure that you do not have any syntax errors. For us, we were migrating from virtual to virtual, so the system we tested on became our new PROD and we simply deleted the old VMs after verifying the new worked. Do not have your cameras run on both systems though. From my experience, you will be fine to pre-provision the cameras to the test system, but do not have streams going to both simultaneously.
4) After you have tested your install and configurations, perform a full install on your Production system and load your configs.
This process worked extremely well for me because we have a fairly simple configuration. All our cameras are Cisco except for a few analog cameras that have been connected to Cisco-encoders. We have only two templates, which we documented manually instead of writing SQL since there were so few. Since we were virtualized, we could easily keep PROD up while we pre-provisioned the new system. If something didn't work, we could easily revert to the old system. I highly recommend testing this in a virtual lab first, because from my experience, I had to go through a couple of iterations in my SQL code to format the data and capture what was needed properly. The syntax can be a bit tricky your first time through. Also, verify (using the 7.2.1) release notes that all your devices are supported and at a supported level of code. For us, some of our cameras were not at supported levels and experienced dropped frames every few seconds until we upgraded these to supported code.
If your config is complex and you don't feel comfortable with the above steps, I recommend going with Scott's solution and seek help from a third party. Also, according to my recent conversation with TAC, skip 7.2.0 and go straight to 7.2.1. Apparently, there was a bad bug in the first one that, if encountered, could result in the loss of archives.
Hope this helps. -
