Stereo input on SB

When I send a stereo signal on SB 5. using a Y cable into the input, my computer only receives a mono signal.

Does line-in on the SB Audigy 2 Value card have stereo input? Whenever I've tried to record, I have only been getting the left channel. 2) Where's the game controller / midi input? Do I have to purchase the optical digital i/o 2 add on? And if I do, will this even work with the Audigy 2 value? 3) Does the SPDIF work as a stereo input for any of the devices I've been trying to record from at all? or does it require the I/O device I just mentioned? Thanks in advance,Tyler Pantella
You just can't record analog mono instruments as stereo without a stereo microphone.
If you mean to record a signal which 'stays in the middle' and not 'panned left or right' then you need
- mono to L+R (stereo) convertor adapter
or
- mono to R+L (stereo) cable
between (pre)amplifier output and soundcard input.
<i>Note: Normally instruments are recorded mono --> easier to set instrument positions in final stereo mix</i>.
) yes it is stereo
2) no game/midi on Value. Purchasing Digital I/O won't make any difference to this.
3) dunno, see yoyr user manual

  • No stereo input in logic8, analog or digit., when not in universal track m.

till now , in logic7 , I didnt work in Unversal track mode. When upgrading to logic8 ,its not possible to create a stereo input, analog or spdif,. When I try to record , I cannot see the waveform in arr. window, but when I stop rec. , the record is done. There is no problem in universal track mode,
but I dont want to change because of my older songs. Is there a solution ?

With UTM disabled, only the odd numbered tracks can be made stereo. This is because for a track to be a stereo track with UTM off, it needs the even numbered channel beside it.
If you click on the circle at the bottom of an odd numbered track (1, 3, 5, etc...), making it a stereo track, look at the even numbered track beside it. It no longer exists, because it has now been put to use as the "right" side of the stereo image.
I'm wondering if this is what you are experiencing, and getting confused by...?

  • Stereo Input=Mono??

I'm new to Garage Band and macs in general. I was using Adobe Audition 3 on a Vista based laptop and have just switched to a Macbook (black)I'm using the same set-up as I was with Audition. A Behringer (Xenyx 802 with 2 mics) mixer with L/R 1/4" patch cables (for output) into a 1/4" Y to stereo 1/8" jack into the line input of the macbook.
I have the proper input set up in preferences and select Stereo input. When I record It shows two channels recording, but on the meters only the upper one is working. If I switch to mono, it shows 1 channel recording, but BOTH meters are now active.
    Am I missing something??

This may be a dumb suggestion, but I have the same set-up, and sometimes when I am getting only half the signal, I just turn the line-in around a bit. That usually does it.
If that doesn't solve it, I would suggest using the RCA out straight to the line-in on the laptop (I assume your mixer has them) instead of the 1/4''-it could be something weird with your adapter.

  • DDTS-100 Issue - PC Switchbox Works but Stereo Input to Decoder does not

I recently sold a DDTS-100 to someone on eBay. It was working fine for me when I shipped it. I had an XBOX, PS2, PC, and TV Tuner connected to a Creative Inspire P5800 5.1. The new owner states that the PC works fine with the switchbox, but when switched to "decoder" he gets no audio from stereo inputs from his XBOX. Anyone have recommendations or link to a site, forum post, or other, for him as far as root causing the issue?

Yes, I read it here: http://www.ausmedia.com.au/Creative%20DDTS-00.htm
I was thinking, the only way I can think of doing this, and I'm not definately sure you could either, is to connect a 7.1 sound card to the switchbox of the DDTS-100 decoder with a 7.1 audio cable (lime green, black, orange and grey), with only the standard 5.1 connects (lime green, black and orange) going to the switchbox, and the grey/side speaker connect going into a pair of active speakers or a hi-fi. As I say, I'm not sure - but maybe this is something along the lines of what they meant? Other than that, maybe the reviewer was high at the time! :manvery-happy:

  • 1820m Stereo inputs split into mono inputs?

    Hi,
I want to split the stereo inputs of my 1820m into mono inputs so I can record multi-tracks on Cubase. Is this possible?
    Thanks in advance.

When you set up a strip in PatchMix, it is seen from inside Cubase as a stereo ASIO channel regardless of whether you use both inputs. Pan one hard to the left, the other hard to the right, and then work out your VST connections in Cubase, and route (say) the one you panned hard left to a mono Cubase channel's input, and the one you panned hard right to a second mono channel etc., then you can record each input signal onto different tracks.

  • How record line-level stereo input on GarageBand iOS?

I'd like to record line-level stereo input sent from my Mackie mixer to GarageBand on my iPhone 4S. I tried plugging a standard 1/8" stereo cable into the headphone jack, but no luck. The GarageBand manual suggests that this is possible, and there is one (pricey) cable I've found that seems to handle this, but it claims that the audio input is mono only, suggesting that I may need a cable connection to the dock (not the headphone jack) to handle stereo.  I can't find a cable to do this, however...ideas?
    Many thanks,
    Jim

Sonoma Wire Works' "GuitarJack Model 2" iOS peripheral can help you do that. It's expensive though.

  • Stereo inputs for ripping Lps on a g3 B&W, how can I do it?

First time caller / first time mac.
I just finished reviving a G3 system to use as a sort of retro-jukebox, only to realize that the mic input is mono only. Is there a pci card that I can get that will allow me to input a stereo line/mic level signal?
I am looking for a prosumer level of quality. Can i hack into the cd audio line that comes out of the back of the cd-drive? Or will that only work under os 9? Are there any other inputs on the motherboard that will take a stereo signal? I am ready with a soldering iron if need be.
Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.
Can i use iTunes for Lp recording to mp3 and will it split tracks?

As far as my CPU, I just recently added it, and am still making up my mind about whether it was a good upgrade from my previous OWC 533MHz G4. The Beige bus is already at 66MHz, so I don't have the bus-reduction issue of the B&W when used with this particular CPU upgrade. You might find some user reports of that CPU in the B&W at
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com
and see if they note any difference. I imagine potentially it may have some impact on PCI devices that really require the higher bus speed, but aren't most of those cards backwards compatible so they should function at either bus speed? I guess it depends on how performance sensitive your applications/hardware is and the trade-off you get with the faster CPU. I would guess that, typically the devices or interfaces themselves are the bottleneck, not the system bus, but that might not be true in all cases.
Off-topic - My one complaint with my Beige Desktop, is that the main reason I wanted to max out the CPU, and PCI graphics, was to get better performance with games like Nanosaur, OttoMatic, Enigmo, etc. but now I get random system freezes, also during DVD playback, after a few minutes of play. XPlane v6 and v8 also crash on me, the display just freezes and I get no response, I can usually reboot immediately just fine. I'm not totally sure what the culprit is, as I did several simultaneous upgrades, the 1GHz CPU, ATI Radeon 9200, and 10.4.7. My system had been very stable with a OWC 533MHz G4, ATI Radeon Mac Edition, and 10.3.9, but performance in the games was not very good. So, my maxed out sytem may be taxing the power supply or possibly overheating, I'm not sure. For normal Office apps, e-mail and internet use it is stable and fairly snappy. Booting, starting Classic and opening apps is faster now, but as far as my original goal of trying to upgrade to a semi-usable gaming machine, my attempt was futile. I might downgrade back to 10.3.9 and see if that helps. Eventually I will devote this machine to serve as a digital jukebox and photo album and get a newer machine for primary use and games, so it will probably continue to work well for a few more years. Adding the hardware has been a learning and enjoyable experience, if not an expensive one.

  • Stereo Out -mono/stereo - Input 1/2-

I've got a couple of projects open and just need some advice on something that I've just noticed.
On the channel strip it has.
    Input 1
    Stereo Out
    Two independent columns
    Mono circle
Okay, I thought that because the the mono circle is there, there would be one single fader gauge/column?
When I press the circle to get to get the double circle stereo, the gauge itself doesn't change, but stays the same. What changes is the Input 1 to Input 1 -2. I would have thought the gauge would change in accordance with whether it be mono or stereo? Or does the Input change from 1 to 1 -2, represent this?
    Likewise, on another channel strip
    Input 1-2
    Stereo Out
    Single column
    Stereo double circle
When I click the double circles the gauge just stays as it is (single column) whether it be mono or stereo circles. the input changes from Input 1 (mono) to Input 1-2 (stereo).
I think I'm just confused by this.
Any help would be great help.

No, only if the strip also has a mono output.
When I press the circle to get to get the double circle stereo, the gauge itself doesn't change, but stays the same. What changes is the Input 1 to Input 1 -2. No, it has to do with the complete signal flow. Mono in>mono out: single gauge. anything in, stereo out: double gauge.
    Likewise, on another channel strip
    Input 1-2
    Stereo Out
    Single column
    Stereo double circle

That is because it is confusing. It would be Logical and Reasonable if the gauge doubled up in that scenario. The channel strip has no inserts on it?
Any help would be great help.
I am not sure if this is any help and therefore great help. I'll check out what I just said (I am not completely sure) in L9 later.

  • Blue Icicle USB preamp -- Stereo input?

I'm a little confused. I just received a Blue Icicle mic preamp. I noticed when I select it as my input device, Garageband records in 2-channel stereo mode, even though I am using a condenser mic--which I know is mono. The Icicle features one XLR connection, which begs the question: why should it detect the Icicle as a stereo source? Am I missing something here? Thanks for any input.

ah ok--thanks HangTime. I guess all input sources, will show up with at least two channels, even if they are monaural, so that the sound can be distributed evenly across left/right channels...I guess Thanks again.

  • 2.2 bug? Mainstage not recognizing external stereo inputs

Using Mainstage 2.2 when instantiating a stereo external instrument, only the left channel is being recognized and it is mono. Have tried using a motu ultralite, motu 828 MKII, and a profire 2626, in all instances, adding a stereo external instrument ony the left channel is recognized and is mono. Any one else having this problem. Seems like a pretty big one. Not a problem is your just using a mono guitar or vocal input, but for trying to process stereo external gear, this is a problem.
    Anyone else?

Hey guys! ...(new here, but been a frequent reader for a looong time)
Having the same problems here.... and more?! (Ultralite mk3)
I `upgraded` my rig with the new MBP 13` ( i7), late last year, but haven`t had the time to set it up until now....  But we need to keep these threads alive ..
Looking all over forums for information about this now.
Luckily I had a bakcup of MS2.1.2 on a timemachine disk... (2.1.2 wich for me is still the latest working version of Mainstage... 2.1.3 acutally nearly killed me onstage hanging B3`s and not looping samples ... felt really good that night.. haha!!
The CPU meter running wild is also strange... When running 2.1.2 on my new MBP Its looking really good ..
And of course I opened some of my most used MS sessions in 2.2 ... and made them unusable for 2.1.2 when I had to go back... no problem really, because I keep my backups close and updated, but still a `bad design` issue
What I haven`t seen anyone complain about yet ,is that the "My Templates" and "Save as Template" is gone!! .. or am I going blind?!...  I have a couple of different Templates for my different gear setups and my templates was a timesaver..
I`m joining in on the "FIX IT APPLE" chanting! .. Since the 2.1.3 buggy update was never fixed until we `had to buy` the even more useless 2.2 , I feel I`m loosing my rock solid faith in Apple.
    Sad but true!

  • Stereo input for Value Live c

    Hi
I have a Value Li've card and am using Cakewalk 2000.
This does everything I want to do well and at very good quality except I want to be able to record via mic in stereo (or voice and instrument at the same time).
If I understand the manual correctly the mic input is mono and that is all I seem to be able to get it to do?
    The line input is stereo.
Is there any way to input from two mics
    Thanks
    Barry

You have to set the line input in GB's prefs, not the System's.

  • Stereo input?

Is it possible to record both channels from a stereo microphone with an X-Fi?

Not through mic input port. If your microphone outputs line level signal then use line-in port which is type of stereo.

  • Car stereo input...not mini

My car stereo has a rear input with a weird circular connection, not a mini input.
Anyone know if they make a cable to connect with an ipod using this type of input?
    thanks.

Thank you for your post and welcome to the forums.
What is the model number of the car stereo? Was it professionally installed? Have you located the reset button on the unit? Just to inform, the unit may need to be uninstalled from the vehicle and rewired. If the issue is not resolved please contact Sony Support by clicking the link here.
    Thank you.

  • Best simple stereo input?

Hi all, new to Mac and GB, and digital recording as whole. Did a lot of analog recording back in the day and now getting back into it. My Macbook Pro is two weeks out, so I'm trying to get an idea of what hardware I'm going to need for my various recording applications. After reading through the forum, one application is solved, I'll be recording a church band for mixdown in GB so I'm thinking I like that 8-channel Firepod everyone raves about. That will stay at the church, though, most likely put that in the rack with all the other audio gear. What I'd like to get some recommendations on would be what I could use at home to simply record my guitar. More specifically, the left and right channel line-outs from my Line6 PodXT. Now, I know I can just come out of one channel (mono) 1/4" to the 1/8" line-in on the Macbook Pro, but I like the stereo sounds that I've made in the Pod. I haven't seen a cable that I could take two 1/4" (left and right outputs) into a single 1/8", I'm sure there's got to be one out there but I'm not sure that's the best solution anyway.
I've been looking at some of the interfaces and mixers you've talked about in the forum posts, like the M-Audio USB (~$100 and only mono) and USB-Pro (~$200, does stereo?), any other interfaces that might fit the bill to take the stereo out from the Pod and get it into the MacBook Pro? Thanks in advance, and I can't wait for my first Mac.
    Andy

Well, the church band is pretty big. Recording live during a service, we could be recording anywhere up to 4 singers, 3 guitar players, 1 bass player, 1 acoustic piano, 1 electric keyboard, and an electronic drum kit. If I really was going to do it right, I'd be using 8 tracks for the drums alone so I could mix the drums. If we were going to "studio" record things, then we could get away with 8 simultaneous tracks and just go back and record additional takes. Not a big deal, obviously, but I'd love to be able to mix each instrument individually, and generally if we're recording live then we wouldn't be able to do that, have to group some of the parts into submixes and try to control it from there.
Basically, just really looking forward to playing around with GB and seeing what I can do.
Oh, and I ordered that cable for my home use Figure I'll get that before my Macbook Pro comes, I'll be jamming right out of the box.

  • Using 1 stereo input as 2 mono

Hi... I have a problem to solve and I dont know if I can use a single stereo chanel as 2 individual mono chanels (individual record start/stop). If yes then how ? For example: There is 2 phones connected to one stereo inptut. tel1 is chanel left and tel2 is chanel right. is that possible to record phonecalls individoal or do i have to use the whole stereo chanel to record something even if it's mono.

I don't know that there's necessarily a built-in way to do it, but, you could certainl write code to do it...
If you just read from a recording source and break the audio stream into samples, they're interleaved left-right-left-right...so you could simply redirect every-other-sample to a file, and handle the two redirections individually...
