Still NoClassDefFoundError

Hi,
     I am still getting the NoClassDefFoundError, I am testing with the following code.
//file:OracleTest.java
import java.sql.DriverManager;
import java.sql.SQLException;
import oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver;
public class OracleTest {
public OracleTest() {
try {
System.out.println("Before Load...");
DriverManager.registerDriver (new oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver());
System.out.println("After Load...");
catch (SQLException SQLe) {
System.out.println("SQL Error: "+ SQLe);
catch (NoClassDefFoundError e) {
System.out.println("Error: "+ e);
public static void main (String[] args) {
OracleTest ot = new OracleTest();
     This gives the following results.
     Outside Jar:
Before Load...
After Load...
     Inside Jar:
Before Load...
Error: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/jdbc/OracleDriver
     I have the following classpath set.
set classpath=.;c:\jdk2\;c:\jdk2\classes12.zip
     Any help would be appreciated.
Best Regards,
Mick.

Almost all class not founds relate to the classpath. This is a class which you can use to determing exactly what class the classloader has visibility on. This will rule out any duplicate classes on your classpath. It depends on the order in which you set your classpath. You could also check that when you set the environment, that you are not setting it locally using set local and running the app in a web server or something. Here you cannot establish the run time classpath.
I hope this helps you.
Try running the following code:
public class JWhich
* Prints the absolute pathname of the class file
* containing the specified class name, as prescribed
* by the current classpath.
* @param className Name of the class.
     public static void which(String className)
          if (!className.startsWith("/"))
     className = "/" + className;
          className = className.replace('.', '/');
          className = className + ".class";
          java.net.URL classUrl = new JWhich().getClass().getResource(className);
          if (classUrl != null)
               System.out.println("\nClass '" + className + "' found in \n'" + classUrl.getFile() + "'");
          else
               System.out.println("\nClass '" + className + "' not found in \n'" +
               System.getProperty("java.class.path") + "'");
     public static void main(String args[])
          if (args.length > 0)
               JWhich.which(args[0]);
     else
     System.err.println("Usage: java JWhich <classname>");

  • Still java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:

    Im trying to connect a TINI board up to my pc using the serial interface and therefore require javax.comm api. I have downloaded this and followed the instructions to install including placing the comm.jar file in C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_03\lib yet when i try to run the JavaKit application provided by the TINI developers (that uses the comm.jar api) i get the following error:
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/comm/Commport
    I know that this means that windows cant find the class files for the app but i have added them to the CLASSPATH and this is obvious from echoing the classpath variable.
    Furthermore I have also extracted the comm.jar file to see if the CommPort class is inside the jar file and it definitely is.
    I know that javax is no longer supported by Java but I just wandered if someone could lend a hand to solve my problem.
    Much appreciated
    Ozzie

    including placing the comm.jar file in C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_03\libit needs to go into the jre/lib/ext directory.
    I know that this means that windows cant find the class files for the appNo, it means java cannot find the class file for javax.comm.Commport
    i have added them to the CLASSPATH and this is obvious from echoing the classpath variable.Well, if you are executing this from an IDE for instance, the CLASSPATH environment variable is ignored.
    I know that javax is no longer supported by JavaWhat the?

  • Package javax.mail does not exist (Still having trouble)

    Good Morning
    I know that there are several posts regarding issues with javamail. I have viewed them for the past hour. While several of them address my issue I have been unable to locate a solution.
    Bare with me please, I am making this post very thorough. The other threads I have read are frusterating because the problems people tend to post are not clear.

    27 errors
    Here are the methods I have tried...
    1. Make sure you have most current version of Java
    2. Reinstall Java
    3. Attempt to compile in an IDE (Attempted in Eclipse 3.2)
    4. Set class path
    Some sources suggest "CLASSPATH" some suggest "CLASS PATH" as the variable name. I have tried both.
    Below is what the classpath looks like in bold.
    Variable Name: CLASS PATH
    Variable value: c:\download\javamail-1.4\mail.jar;C:\download\jaf-1.1\activation.jar;.
    I have double checked all folder names and copy pasted all entries to eliminate typos. Javamail-1.4 and jaf-1.1 are both located in c:\download which is the same location Class Path points to.
    Thank you very much for your input and effort. I can imagine how frusterating it is responding to 20million javamail posts :) (that may be a bit of an overstatement!)
    Thank you again!

    Yes - I have read that part of the README and did exactly as it has said in a previous attempt. I should have mentioned that here I'm sorry :)
    I moved the .jar files into the download folder and set the classpath exactly as the readme shows.
    When I do that the msgsend.java compiles correctly but it still does not run.
    Below is what happens.
    C:\download\javamail-1.4\demo>set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;c:\download\javamail-1.4
    \mail.jar;%CLASSPATH%;c:\download\jaf-1.1\activation.jar.
    C:\download\javamail-1.4\demo>javac msgsend.java
    C:\download\javamail-1.4\demo>java msgsend.java
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: msgsend/java
    C:\download\javamail-1.4\demo>
    I have tried fixing this error as well via forums and FAQs but it seems to be the most generic error.
    One suggestion was to clear your classpath. I tried this with a test hello world program which was giving the same error - "NoClassDefFoundError". By clearing the classpath I was able to get the hello world program to run without this error. But I can't just clear the classpath in this instance because it needs to point to mail.jar and activation.jar for the program to compile.
    Thanks again for all of your efforts. You are more appreciated than you know.

  • Read the manual; still can't get it right

    i've followed instructions on setting path and classpath, but still can't get the HelloWorldApp to work right. it makes the .class file fine but the java HelloWorldApp command gives this to stdout
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: HelloWorldApp
    maybe i have the classpath set wrong..currently it's set to C:\jdk1.3.1_01\bin\;"." is it supposed to be somewhere else? well when i use codewarrior it all works fine but i only have a trial version of it and would like to do the command line thing 1) because it's free and 2) because i like typing the commands ...also i have the exact same problem to overcome on my linux box..same error message as above.
    any help is greatly appreciated..

    Hello Fueley,
    I can see that you are running JDK 1.3.1_01 on a Windows OS of some kind. On different Windows OS you have a a different place to set CLASSPATH environment variable. For instance, in Windows/95 you can set CLASSPATH environment variable in the autoexec.bat file. While in Windows/NT you set CLASSPATH environment variable in the Environment tab of the System Properties of the Control Panel.
    First clear your classpath by typing in a DOS window:
    C:> set CLASSPATH=
    Then point your classpath to the current directory. The current directory is indicated by a period. The quotation marks are not needed.
    To set your classpath, type in a DOS window:
    C:> set CLASSPATH=.
    If you want to, you can add other paths your classpath, for example, the dt.jar and tools.jar
    C:> set CLASSPATH=.;C:\jdk1.3.1_01\lib\dt.jar;C:\jdk1.3.1_01\lib\tools.jar
    See http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/install-windows.html#Classpath for more information.

  • Java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError while calling a java class from BPEL

    Hi,
    I'm calling a java class to convert JSON to XML using BPEL. I have imported all the necessary jar files in the project and compiling done successfully.
    But at runtime , i get the java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: net/sf/json/JSON error.
    For this i placed all the necessary jars under FUSION_HOME/Oracle_SOA1/soa/modules/oracle.soa.ext_11.1.1/ path and restarted the server.
    But still i'm getting the same error at runtime.
    Did i missed any step? Let me know the procedure to solve this.
    Do i have to run ant or edit Manifest file after placing the jar?
    in one site i find we have to place the jars under <DOMAIN HOME>/lib directory. Is this correct?
    We are using SOA suite 11.1.1.6.
    Thanks,
    Terry

    Hi Karan,
    I have done placing the jars at FUSION_HOME/Oracle_SOA1/soa/modules/oracle.soa.ext_11.1.1/ and ran ant  -f build.xml .The build was successful without any error.
    I have even placed the jars in <DOMAIN HOME>/lib (/us2001/fmw/11.1.1.6/user_projects/domains/ohsdomain/lib) and did a server restart.
    After these activities, when i execute the composite, i still get the error in em console,

  • I am getting the following error: Unable to locate class: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: on an iPlanet WS. We have ensured that the classpath in jvm12.conf includes the jar file with path. Any ideas?

    Well, now I'm pulling my hair out even more because I can't get it to resolve anything in jaxws-rt.jar at runtime. Note: compile-time still works FINE.
    I was messing with classpaths and stuff (and the endorsed dirs option of course) and it was "working" to the extent I had posted before, but then I kept playing with it and at some point I said, this isn't working and I need to reset all this stuff back to the way it was.
    ... so I did that. And now it won't resolve "PolicyException:"
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sun/xml/ws/policy/PolicyException
    This doesn't mean anything to you guys I bet, but that happens when it FIRST gets inside the web service code, which references PolicyException (doesn't even use it at that point.. I'm assuming the import is screwing it up when it's in the constructor). So now it won't resolve at all. Before, it was getting past this point and telling me the "method not found" error on the next line or this same error for WSBindingProvider two lines down, when it's actually being used. AWESOME.
    I downloaded the latest jaxws-rt.jar and all its dependencies, shoved that into my lib folder, and set the endorsed dir to that folder (There's kind of a web of dependencies here. jaxws-rt.jar expects all its dependencies to be in the same folder, it seems, so I don't know how it was "working" before when I just copied jaxws-rt.jar into my separate endorsed dir - but I can't move all of those files to endorsed because I need them in my project (which expects them to be in the lib folder)). What happened? It went back to my original "String" error (first error in the first post), which means it's not getting endorsed at all from that location.
    What a mess.
    Can someone tell me what the heck I'm supposed to do with this jar file?

  • "NoClassDefFoundError" Java exception while invoking BPEL process

    While invoking a BPEL process from my ADF application, I'm getting the following error, it seems some source files are missing, I have made sure the orabpel.jar, and a few other orabpel*.jar are located in the classpath on my PC. Anything else is still missing?

    Upon clicking on the second error, it shows message "Unable to find source file for package com.oracle.bpel.client filename locator.java", what's the problem?
    Thanks,

    I replaced it and it worked fine

  • Servlet + Tomcat NoClassDefFoundError

    Hi,
    I am developing a servlet which takes data from Amazon's Web services (in XML format) and then outputs a RSS feed. I use xerces for parsing the XML and then use Rome to output the RSS feed. When I run the servlet then I get the following error.
    However when I run the same code over the commandline, it runs fine, however running it as a servlet, it shows the NoClassDefFoundError . I am also sending the code , it contains the commented out System.out statements which I use when I am running it over the command line
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I am building the servlet for now in
    $TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/examples/WEB-INF/classes ,
    however there is no 'lib' directory in
    $TOMCAT_HOME/webapps/examples/WEB-INF . I created one
    and put the jar files there, but still I get the same
    error. Infact when I start the server, I do not see
    the jar file in CLASSPATH
    Thanks
    GauravYou shouldn't be putting your app in the examples directory.
    You should create a directory under TOMCAT_HOME/webapps for YOUR individual apps. Each one should have a WEB-INF directory under that, and /classes and /lib under that. Your web.xml belongs in the WEB-INF directory. Your .class files, and their package directories, belong under WEB-INF/classes. 3rd party JARs, like JDBC drivers, belong in WEB-INF/lib.
    The problem is that you don't know how to deploy a Web app properly on Tomcat.

    Hi All,
              <br>
              <br>
              My application was working fine on weblogic7. Recently i have installed weblogic8.1 SP4. We are using managed weblogic servers. I got noclassdeffounderror for a class on the deployment of the application or on the start one of the servers.
              <br>
              <br>
              <b>Strange thing is that the class it is complaining is there in the jar and the jar is there in the classpath which it displays along with the error.</b>
              <br>
              <br>
              I dont know why its not picking up that class. I verifed the classpath by setting it on command line and then tried to use that particular class and it was working.
              <br>
              <br>
              I also tried to put the particular class in web-inf/classes directory and to my surprise it is also not working. still it is giving the same error. Then I tried to put the jar in the web-inf/lib but even in this case also i got the same error.
              <br>
              <br>
              Is there something wrong in the setup/configuration of the server?? or is it anyway related to the environment(like xp,2000,environment variables etc) where the server is installed?? or is weblogic8.1 has some problem in picking classes form classpath or web-inf/classes/ for some particular cases??
              <br>
              <br>
              Anybody has any idea why weblogic8.1 is behaving this way??
              <br>

  • NoClassDefFoundError while accessing JMS Queue from JDev 10.1.3.3

    Hi,
    I'm trying to get a handle of a JMS queue, which resides on Oracle App Server 10.1.3.4, from a Java Program which I'm trying to run from JDeveloper 10.1.3.3.
    I'm trying to make an RMI connection to the App server from JDeveloper by passing following information to the intialContext:
    env.put("java.naming.factory.initial",
    "oracle.j2ee.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory");
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL,
    "ormi://wafedabpelqa10.corp.weyer.pri:12402");
    env.put("java.naming.security.principal","oc4jadmin");
    env.put("java.naming.security.credentials","welcome1");
    Where the above information is related to our App Server.
    I'm successfully able to establish an RMI connection from JDev to Oracle App Server and can lookup datasources created on the App server using their
    JNDI names. However if I try to look up a JMS Queue from the App server using its JNDI name, I get an error as:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/tip/adapter/api/OracleConnectionFactory
    I have also tried to use the value "com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory" for "java.naming.factory.initial",
    however I still get the same error.

    Hi,
    this should work and you need to download the rmi library http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/utilsoft.html
    thanks

  • Error: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError in execution

    Hi, I compile my code right but when I'm executing the code I get the following error:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: jahuwaldt/tools/NeuralNets/NeuronFactory
    This is my code:
    import jahuwaldt.tools.NeuralNets.*;
    public class Gene
    public FeedForwardNet OOLFFNet;
    public Gene(int newNumInput,int newNumOutput,int newNumHidden,int newNeuronHLayer)
      OOLFFNet = new FeedForwardNet(NumInput,NumOutput,NumHidden,NeuronHLayer, new BasicNeuronFactory() );This line that fails is the last one.
    In the directory of jahuwaldt/tools/NeuralNets I got the file NeuronFactory.class. So I don't know why the code compiles right but when it is in execution mode gives the error non class found, when the class is in the directory. Any help?. Thanks in advance

    Hi, thanks again. I'm stuck with this I have test several options but I still get the same error. These are some options that I have tried.
    java -classpath  C:\NeuralNet\jahuwaldt\tools\NeuralNets\NeuronFactory\*.class; sim.app.OOL.OOLWithUI
    java -classpath  C:\NeuralNet\jahuwaldt\tools\NeuralNets\NeuronFactory\NeuronFactory.class; sim.app.OOL.OOLWithUIWhere is the problem?, I think that they are the same that the example from the java help.
    java -classpath C:\java\MyClasses\myclasses.jar utility.myapp.Cool
    Thanks again.

    The remote reference that i get seems to not work atall.i tried to put debug statements to see if i am getting the remote reference,but the control seems to not go there itself.
    The same method if i write for another session bean it is working fine without any errors.
    Please let me know whats wrong here as i am stuck up with this issue for a long time .waiting for positive replies from your side.
    Thanks & Regards

    I also came across this error . . . the exception message seemed to indicate a problem in the HTML file. In mine, I had the HEIGHT and WIDTH attributes set to 100% -- something that is nonsensical outside of a browser context. I changed those values to some number of pixels (800 and 600, say), and the exception did not reoccur. I suggest you try the same.

  • NoClassDefFoundError when passing HttpSession

    Hello All,
    I am getting a NoClassDefFoundError when I start my rmi server.
    I am pass an HttpSession as one of the variables of my rmi call.
    Everything worked fine until I added the HttpSession variable.
    Why do I get this exception ?

    I am getting a NoClassDefFoundError when I start my rmi server.That will be because either the server or the Registry or the client doesn't have the class named in the exception in its CLASSPATH.
    I am pass an HttpSession as one of the variables of my rmi call.Are HttpSessions really serializable? This sounds like a very odd design.
    While were at it, let me ask this: My RMI implementation code has some data that it needs to pass to my servlet that is invoked by an third-party server. I due to the sensitive nature of the data, I don't want to stick it in a DB, but pass as session variables, thus I was passing in the session var.There's something wrong with that description. It seems to me that it is the servlet passing the HttpSession to your RMI server, not the other way around. Assuming the HttpSession implementation is serializable it should work but it's still an odd design. I would get the stuff that you actually need out of the HttpSession and pass that.
