Stop ADF from fetching all data on startup

Hi all,
I have built an ADF page with a search form on it. Goal here obviously is to search the DB for certain user entered criteria. The problem now is that ADF fetches all data before the user has enetered anything. Pretty annoying, as it takes about 5 minutes to fetch the 1 mil records over VPN. And not very performant either...
How can I stop ADF from doing this?

2 topics here that I'll address one after the other
1. ADF fetches nothing. The business Service layer does. If you use ADF BC for example then you can define the number of records that are fetched initially. If you use EJB then this kind of intelligence is all yours to implement. Same then for POJO and Web Service. If you are working with a million of records, think about using query hints in your query to boost performance.
2. To solve your issue
- assuming you use ADF BC: Set the iterator to find mode or set the query condition to where it finds no hits. If your query uses bind variables then it is enough to not provide a default value for the bind variable. Another option is to use a invokeAction method and set the iterator into findMode upon page load
- If you use EJB, make sure the initial query also doesn't return any hits
Note that for the refresh property on teh iterator there are other conditions like "deferred" that you may want to try out

Fetching all data from MS access PROBLEM !!!

I am having problem of fetching all data from MS ACCESS, ie, I have 112 rows of data, yet when executing query SELECT * ... only 70 items are retrieved. Don't know why, but the retrieval prcess stops on item 69 and want get the rest of the data.
I am executing the query in a WHILE loop, don't specify the number of loops !!! so I should be able to get all of the data. Why then I always only get 69?
Second q.
What is the right SYNTAX for retrieving specific data. ie. SELECT id from images WHERE size = 58
is this correct? ie. size is declared as number?

You should transfer any purchases from iphone regularly: File>Transfer Purchases , if they fail to be transferred when you sync.
You buy one and only one download. It is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your purchases.
You can try contacting itunes support and asking for an exception, but they are under no obligation to allow.

Can I close all layers? or even better, stop illustrator from opening all layers when I open a file?

I just installed cs6, and when I open files in Illustrator, it opens all of the layers which contain sublayers. It does this even if all the top-level layers were closed during the previous save. The files I work with have a large layer-structure, so re-closing the top-level layers every time I open a file wastes a lot of my time. Can I close all layers at once, or better yet, can I stop Illustrator from opening all of the layers automatically when I load a file?
If not, then WHY on earth not? I can't be the only one who opens and closes large files with lots of layers and sub-layers...

Edit: I also am noticing this problem is even worse in cs6, because openning and closing individual layers plays a little animation of rotating the triangular arrow before the layer which, cute as it may be, just makes the task of individually closing up all my layers that much more tedious. Can I turn off that little animation of the triangular arrow when opening and closing layers?

You can save it as a pdf and when you open that in AI the layers will not be opened even if they have sublayers.
Not true. Does the same nonsense an .AI file does. Saved as a .PDF, closed Layers/subgroups get opened.
And no one cares!
I do. Every other Adobe program with a layering sceme seems to be able to remember that you saved a file with all layers and subs closed. But not this one.
Maybe someone from the AI development team should ask someone from the Photoshop team how they've managed it.....for decades.

Let me first say that I am NO EXPERT with anything Apple and really have only started looking into this iCloud stuff a few hours ago because I'm trying to help my mom free up some space on her iCloud. But anyway, here's what I'm learning and what I THINK might be happening to you.
Also, if any Apple support people (do they browse the forums to dish out helpful hints?) or people who probably know infinitely more than me about this stuff, please do chime in and confirm / correct my statements!
This is what I gather.
iCloud for Windows is set up with a local folder (let's call it "C:\Users\Administrator\Pictures\iCloud Photos\My Photo Stream") where iCloud will store photos uploaded to the Photo Stream. This will allow you to view your Photo Stream photos on your PC.
This does not mean that this is a PC backup of your Photo Stream photos, but just a way to view your Photo Stream from your PC. That being said, the general Photo Stream rules apply: 1. No videos are on the photo-stream, and 2. Photos on the Photo Stream will be removed after ~30 days and/or after hitting the Photo Stream limit of 1000 photos.
My guess is that the iCloud Windows App will delete photos from the local folder that are older than ~30 days and/or delete all but the most recent 1000 items if the 1000-item limit is reached.
That is a scary thought! I really hope you did not lose all your pictures, but my guess is that the iCloud local folder is NOT meant for backup but instead is the iCloud Windows App's sandbox for updating and managing Photo Stream photos.
All that being said, I'd say it's important to back up your photos in a separate folder not related to the iCloud local folder.

How do I stop lion from opening all previously opened files on restart? I want to wipe all open files, since that seems to be the most efficient way to close lots & lots of open files (that build up over the course of normal activities)

One way is to always quit all applications before you shut down.
An easy way to do this (although in my own experience it doesn't seem to always work perfectly) is to simply hit CMD + TAB + Q and hold down all three keys.
When you do that the computer will cycle through all open apps and close them. If there are any open files that haven't been saved, it won't close them. So you should save everything you want to save before you hit CMD + TAB + Q.

Select Single * is not fetching all Data

I have a peculiar problem, when i am extending the customer to a new company code, we are getting Dump saying 'ASSERTION_FAILED'
when i debugg i am geeting issue with following Code of a FM 'KNA1_SINGLE_READER'

i am passing customer number (i_kunnr), this code is executed 2 times first time it is fetching all columns but second time it is only fetching customer number and no other information regarding customer. But in data base all information is present. Can any one help me in this.

ADF/BC4J fetches all rows, should fetch only if needed

I'm using JDeveloper 10.1.2. Technologies are Struts, ADF and BC4J.
I have a problem with viewObjects. I have created components from database tables. I'm fetching in appModuleImpl:

impl.setWhereClause("id=101");
impl.executeQuery();Problem is that when page is loaded, it fetches ALL ROWS (80 000 rows)from table and then makes another query to fetch group above. I want only fetch rows that i decide to fetch. My application is in immediate mode. Couple of iterators has fetch range -1 and couple 10.
I have debugged that the first ALL ROWS fetch is made somewhere out of my code.
What i'm doing wrong? Any feature development hints are welcome also.

I think i have a solution for you problem.
If i understand you correctly, when the page is loaded, you only want the framework to only fetch one page worth of rows, look yahoo and google. Then when you select another page, you want the other records to be fetch.

As shown above, the query is designed to only fetch 4 rows and this is managed by manipulating the ROWNUM.
When you run it the page will only display RANGE_PAGE only execpt of the 80,000 and your first page will run very fast
This will cause a database hit each time you select another page! If you ask the framework designer, i bet, they shall tell you we are avoiding database hits with this. My answer to them, who would go about navigation all pages anyway!

How can I stop Firefox from loading automatically when I startup my computer?

A while ago I setup Windows so Outlook and Firefox opened automatically when I log on. Now I want to stop FF from opening automatically. I have gone into the Startup folder and removed the shortcut to FF several times but it keeps coming back. I changed the name of Mozilla Firefox in the Windows Programs Directory to xxMozilla Firefox and that didn't keep it from loading. If necessary, I will remove FF from my computer altogether but I would rather not do that.

Aaarg! I tried Matt's suggestion of using msconfig, restarted my computer, and it seemed to solve the problem. Today when I turned on the computer it hung up before loading Windows. I had to use the F12 button to get it to load. I did and it did and Firefox did not load.
Now, this evening, I turned on the computer, the startup procedure was normal, and there's Firefox fired up and ready to go!

How can I stop Pages from changing the date of a document?

It seems that at some point not long ago, I set Pages to use the current date when I use a template that I made. But now, when I open an existing document that was made with that template, the date is changed to the current date. I certainly do not want that to happen. Does anyone know what I can do to stop Pages from doing this? Thanks so much for any input.

Update: Immediately after posting this question, I found the simple answer: double clicking the date and unchecking the 'automatic update' box.

Right click on the date to change its behavior and once you have fixed it resave your template.

I would start with taking a look at the settings to make sure that you are able to send and receive messages. If everything looks good then the next step would be to remove the accounts and add them back in. How stop iCal from switching all my events to the date beforeI assigned them? It saves but then when I open the program again all my events have been messed up.

iCal on my macbookpro moves events to the day before I originally saved them..especially birthdays. I will create an event for the 2nd of September, for example, and then when I restart my computer and open iCal the same event is saved for the 1st even though I created it for the 2nd. I continue to correct the moved events but iCal continues to move them. I do not use an iphone or ipad with my macbookpro. My computer is operating on mountain lion. Please help!

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.

We are implementing cProjects. We need to control Deleting of Staffing from a project, because the deletion of staffing record is a hard delete. The data is removed from the staffing tables of cProjects. So if someone is staffed, data saved and then is deleted we are not able to capture this information as who was staffed earlier whose record is no more now.
When some user changes the staffing dates, we are able to capture this in the BADI DPR_ATTRIBUTES, as the check method gives us the old attributes of the record as well as the new one that has been changed.
But if some staffing is deleted, the DPR_ATTRIBUTES does not indicates
through some variable that delete action has been performed for a
record.
Request you to suggest which BADI shall be implemented to capture
Delete staffing data event that brings in the role that is being
deleted such that we can stop the record from deleting in case we want to do so.
We are very near to go-live and have already missed two deadlines till
date, so request you all to help.

the BAdI DPR_ATTRIBUTES also has a method called DELETE_CHECK, this is called when staffing is deleted (called in class CL_DPR_PARTICIPANT and method DELETE_CHECK), so you could implement your own logic here.
