Stop itunes automatically opening

itunes automatically opens when I start up my computer, and I can't find how to change the settings so this doesn't happen. Can someone please tell me?
Chloe

I'm not a Windows user so this is just a suggestion but if you check out Windows help for Quick Launch you may find a setting there that is opening your iTunes. This is a link to some search results on Quick Launch from the Microsoft webpages: Quick Launch query
If this doesn't help I'm sure someone more familiar with Windows will be along soon with an better answer than this.

  • When connected via USB, my Ipod Classic 160GB mounts as a disc drive, then changes to a white drive.  When iTunes automatically opens, it crashes trying to mount and/ or sync.  When it times out, my only choice is to restore, but that doesn't fix problem.

I'm running OS 10.6.8 on my 3.06 GHz iMac Intel Core 2 Duo.   I recently upgraded to iTunes 10.5.2.  I'm not sure when the trouble started but I attempted a restore when the iPod would not play correctly.  It would start to play a file and get stuck on 0 seconds.  If I put the iPod on shufle, it will stall on 0 seconds for 15 seconds or so and then move on to the next track and stall again and so on.   Seemingly randomly, it will play a few tracks but eventually start skipping again.  This will continue until the battery is depleted which is fairly quick since the drive is constantly spinning.
My 160GB iPod Classic after restore attempts now is up to date with 2.0.4. and of course, nothing works as it should and I would say the skipping issue is worse than ever.
When I connect with any of three USB connectors, the iPod mounts to the desktop as a grey/silver disk drive picon exactly like the Macintosh HD picon.   Then Finder will stall for a few minutes- spinning pinwheel.  Somehow, the dock is never affected and I am able to open other applications like Safari or tab through open windows- just no action on the desktop.  Eventually, iTunes automatically opens and Finder becomes responsive again.  At this point the grey drive picon on the desktop becomes a white drive mount picon, but the iPod does not mount in iTunes, yet.  At some point, the iPod attempts to sync, iTunes crashes with the spinning pinwheel and eventually times out and I am prompted to restore the iPod again.  Once restored,  the iPod properly mounts under devices in iTunes and, as I have done this several times, even occasionally changes to the regular iPod picon on the desktop.
I have restored several times going as far a completely deleting iTunes from my iMac, downloading the latest directly from Apple.com, and attempting to restore again, but to no avail.
I have even used the disk utility to verify and/or repair my Macintosh HD and iPod.
It seems lots of folks are going through this ordeal.  Has anyone had any success in fixing the issue, even if only temporarily?

one more detail, after a restore, when I attempt to reload music to the ipod, if I try and move, say, 20 files, the transfer seems to work as it should but then stalls on the last file.  Eventually, the status will change to "Updates Files on (my ipod)" a and suggests the iPod is syncing  even though I have the auto sync feature turned off.
This process eventually works itself out, and seems to take longer relative to the number of files I attempt to transfer.   Once done, howver, if I try and eject and dismount the iPod, iTunes stalls with the spinning pinwheel and I am warned that the iPod is syncing again with the spinning candy cane status bar.     Eventually thisd works itself out and the iPod dismounts from iTunes and the desktop and eventually the iPod is free to disconnect.
Then if I try and play the music I just transfered, the iPod says there is no music loaded.
    Ideas?

Thanks -- none of the automatic download boxes were checked, but the "automatically download pre-orders" box was checked. I've unchecked everything on the Store tab preferences. Thanks for the tip, hopefully this will fix the problem.

  • On OSX 10.9.13 how do i stop things automatically opening e.g.. mail, messenger

on OSX 10.9.13 how do i stop things automatically opening e.g.. mail, messenger when I log in?

Closing the window does not quit the application. It's not Windows. Apps have multiple document windows. Each window is not its own app. So, if all you were doing was closing the document window, the App was still open.
Kies may have a launchagent set up to start it up when you log in. You'd have to check with Samsung to find out how to disable it. I don't know anything about it, but if you can't solve the dilemma, I can likely lead you to the places to look for the file that causes it to startup.

  • How do I stop iTunes from opening and playing a song every time I unplug my headphones?

I noticed today that iTunes was opening automatically and playing the first song in my library.  Through some searching in the community here, I figured out it has something to do with when I jiggle the cable on my headphones, plugged into the headphone jack. I have an old late 2008 MacBook with all of the latest OS and iTunes, and I need to stop doing this.  I flipped through the settings and the community and didn't find a solution other than "don't jiggle the cable".
I need to do some screen recording for work later on today and I don't want iTunes to keep opening and playing audio while I'm doing this.  Does anyone know of a way to stop this from happening software side instead of hardware side?  It seems ridiculous to me that iTunes would just open up because my headphone jack moved a little.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello Garrett,
Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing with iTunes launching unexpectedly. I recommend reviewing the following article to see if any third-party plug-ins could be causing the problem:

  • HT4539 Stop iTunes Automatic Downloads?

How do I stop iTunes from automatically downloading every time I open the app?  I go to Preferences and uncheck the automatic download box and the TV show still download.

Apple has changed the format requirement for Apple ID passwords. The new format requires at least one capital letter & number. So, Store>View My Account>Edit Apple ID>Change your password. That should put an end to this.

  • How can I stop Itunes from opening by itself?

Itunes keep opening by itself and it's getting pretty irritating at this point. I haven't purposefully gone into it in days, but it keeps popping up and starting to play music anyway. I quit it every time, but then, sooner or later, the same thing happens again.
I've done some searching to see if I could find any solutions, but the suggestions I've found haven't done anything. For one, I took "Itunes Helper" off of my "Login Items" under my account, but that didn't do any good. I also checked to see if I have any Itunes widgets running on the dashboard and I don't. I even disabled the Itunes widget. I've read that other programs could be opening it, but I don't have any new programs on my computer, so if this wasn't occurring before because of something else, I don't know why it would be now.
This is kind of driving me insane, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Pure guesswork, but when I had problems with iTunes launching again and again, the reason were my external speakers. I simply had to unplug the speakers  from the line-out socket, and iTunes stopped launching on its own.

  • How do I disable iTunes automatically opening when I pair bluetooth speakers on Mavericks?

I turn on my bluetooth headphones, they pair to the computer and OS X automatically opens iTunes. How do I prevent OS X from automatically opening iTunes in Mavericks?
There was a solution in earlier builds of OS X in the CD & DVD settings. It appears that solution no longer works in Mountain Lion and Mavericks as that preference pane option no longer exists (or at least, does not exist for Retina Macbook Pros or Macbook Airs).
Is there a different solution? If not, this should absolutely be considered a bug.

I agree. Everytime I connect to my bluetooth speakers, iTunes forces itself open and causes playback errors in my other music apps. I can recreate the problem.
There does not seem to be an obvious fix on OS X Mavericks.

  • Why won't my iTunes automatically open?

Until recently, my iTunes account has automatically opened whenever I connected my iPod. This is not a matter of hardware; I have tried with two cables, both of which work. Is this a sign of some type of failure to communticate between my iPod and iTunes? Also, I have selected "Open iTunes when this iPod is connected" and applied it, so that is hopefully not part of the issue.

    Hey there Ray_J,
I understand that you want iTunes to be opening every time you connect your phone to your computer. You may wish to adjust this setting in your iTunes preferences to affect this behavior:
Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically
Prevent devices from automatically syncing with this iTunes library when a device is connected. To sync a device, click the Sync button when the device is connected.
iTunes 12 for Mac: iTunes Devices preferences
    https://support.apple.com/kb/PH19595
If this is unchecked, iTunes will open automatically when you connect an iOS device. Thanks for being a part of the Apple Support Communities!

  • Why won't iTunes automatically open when I connect my iPhone 6

iTunes is set to open when I connect my phone but will not do so. I have to physically go to the program and open it each time I connect my phone. This also happens when I connect my iPad mini. This began when I upgraded to the iPhone 6. Before upgrading I did not have this problem.

  • How do I stop Firefox automatically opening and forcing me onto a second tab with a Google sign-in every time I open Firefox?

Every time I open Firefox to search for something - it automatically opens a second tab and forces me to that tab. On the second tab is the Google account login. I now avoid using Firefox if I can because I cannot shut this off.

Does this also happen in Safe Mode? You can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
    * Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click Help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Restart with Add-ons Disabled''.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
Also, on the General tab in Firefox preferences, what are "When Firefox starts" and "Home Page" set to?

  • How Do I stop Pages automatically opening a blank document

When I switch back to Pages after working in another application, Pages automatically opens a new blank page or the Template Chooser..... depending on what I have selected in Pages/Preference.
This is very annoying when all I usually want to do is open a document I had been recently working on.
Any suggestions ... is the development team looking at a fix for this annoying feature?

When switching to Pages via the dock, if there is no document open in Pages, the program assumes you want to start working on a new one and automatically opens a new document. Yes, annoying, and I've been using feedback with each new version asking for that behavior to be changed.
However, there are two solutions: 1) rather than switch to Pages and then use the open command, you could simply navigate to the document you want to open using the Finding and double click on its icon. You might use the Finder window sidebar or the dock to keep some of your frequently accessed document folders. 2) use command+tab to access OS X's built in application switcher instead of the dock to switch to Pages. Switching this way won't open a new document.

  • ITunes automatically opens to a list of my purchases.

Even though I am not signed in to iTunes, I can access my purchases lists from any computer.  For instance, although I only download my music to my home computer, iPad 2, or iPod Touch, sometimes I make the actual purchases here on my work computer.  However, if I open iTunes here, the list of songs I purchased - online here or at home - all of them - opens up.  If I go to the iTunes store, I have to sign in, but I did not sign in when I opened iTunes to see all my purchased songs. I should not be able to see this before I sign in.  Also, I cannot find a way to sign out, even though I am asked to sign in at the store.  What is happening, and what should I do to correct this?  Thank you.

    Hi Judy23454,
You may have a feature called Automatic Downloads enabled. More information about this feature can be found here:

  • How do I stop ITunes from opening up every-time I start the computer

Everytime I start my computer, Itunes opens up. I tries going into startup items, but it is not listed there.
How do I get it to stop opening on Boot Up?
    Thanks in advance
    I have a Power Mac G5

If iTunes is in the Dock, control or right click it.
Does it have the "Open at Login" item ticked? If so, select it to untick.
    That should do the trick.

  • Itunes automatically open when plugging in iphone

Before installing Lion iTunes would automaticall open when I plugged in our iPhone or iPad to the Macbook. Now it does not. I have the "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected" box checked. What next?

Hi--so the other day, everything was working fine--when I plugged in my iphone 4, itunes opened, it synced, everything was great. I haven't yet put any music on the phone. Today, I was finally going to put music on the phone. I plugged it in and only iphoto opened. Itunes does not open automatically with plugging in the iphone, and when I open itunes, the phone doesn't show up. I've tried resetting both the phone and the computer, and have tried unplugging/re-plugging in the phone.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks so much in advance.
Just to cover all of your bases, are you sure that the USB cable is working and plugged into a proper USB location? I'd plug it directly into the USB port on your MacBook, not into a USB Hub.
Also, go to your Apple Menu after you connected your iPhone, open up "About this Mac." Then click on More Info. Click on USB on "contents". Your iPhone should show up in the USB list as "iPhone."
If you don't see it, there might be an issue with your USB cable or port. Just get the USB cable replaced. If it's the port, then that's outside of my skill set, but I'd make an Apple Genius appointment to fix it. If you see your iPhone, then the cable is fine, and your issue is probably with iTunes.
Go to iTunes, Preferences, then click on Devices button. Make sure that the Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from automatically syncing is not checked.
These are the basic things. If we can't make it work, then post back here, and someone will reply with the next thing to do.
