Storage option for Non leaf level dimension members: Store vs Dynamic calc

Hi All,
What is the general rule regarding the storage options for non leaf level members? My understanding is that it should be Dynamic Calc under normal circumstances and have it as store if we are going to load data at non leaf level. Is this correct? Are there any other considerations while defining the members?
Thanks and Regards,
Amol

Don't forget to consider whether the dimension is sparse or dense. Upper level dynamic calcs generally work well on dense dimensions as long as you aren't entering data into upper level members. Upper level dynamic calcs in a sparse dimension CAN work well, but usually only on smaller dimensions. This really depends on what else you have going on in your cube. On large sparse dimensions, upper levels are almost always stored, but this is one of those areas where you can sometimes bend the rules.
Also, don't forget to consider the calc order implications of making something stored or dynamic.

  • How to associate different images at non-leaf level and leaf-level tree ?

    Hi,
    I am implementing a tree in OAF where it is required to display the associated image at non-leaf node as a folder and at leaf nodes
    a different image has to be displayed. By default Framework displays non-leaf nodes having folder as associated image and leaf nodes with
    no image associated. When I associate image at parent node then all the nodes irrespective of being leaf or non-leaf have the same
    image associated with them.
    How to keep the folder as associated image for non-leaf node and a custom image at leaf nodes? Pls. help.
    Thanks in advance

    The leaf node I am referring to here is just the last node in the tree hierarchy consisting of only one view link and VO. I have just
    a simple parent child hierarchy. ex: Mangaer/Employee relation with the emloyee who have no reportees under them
    should contain a image against their name display in the tree and other employees should have a folder against their name display in the tree.
    Thanks

    My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now.  About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

    OK - skip that link....I just went through it again, and since you already have an Apple ID, it directs you to another article, which then directs you to the original one you were looking at.....so THAT's not going to work!
    So, I'd say, at this point, you need to contact iTunes support to see if they can tell you why you are not seeing the "None" option...

  • How to load data at non-leaf levels directly?

    Hi,
    We have a requirement where by Fact data for different scenarios gets loaded at different levels of ragged/recursive hierarchies.
    For example, the Actual sales are loaded at Product Leaf level but the Budgets data is available for loading only at Product Group level (which is one level above Product Leaf in Product Hierarchy).
    Please let me know if this is possible in Essbase.
    This is rater urgent.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Gurudatta

    Yes, as Gary said, performance is one factor.
    There are other less prominent reasons to keep agg missing on, but the overall reason for me is that it just makes more sense, especially when you consider the user operations involved in zooming in on data. When you do a zoom to bottom level, it's going to show you that the sum of the parts is equal to the whole in a well designed cube with agg missing on. With agg missing off, this may or may not be the case, and would NOT be the case if you load at non-leaf members. In that scenario, you end up with a "where did the data go?" issue that adds time to any hunt for answers as well as the likelyhood that more questions will be brought up that ultimately need answering. It's not obvious, but one scenario can be described as follows:
    (For convenience, I will use a standard time dimension hierarchy of YEAR|QUARTER|MONTH|DAY to illustrate the issue)
    2008 = 12000
        2008Q1 = 3000
            Jan 2008 = 1000 (input)
                1/1/2008 = #Missing
                1/2/2008...
            Feb 2008 = 1000 (input)
            Mar 2008 = 1000 (input)
        2008Q2 = 3000
          ... and so onIn the above example, there are two ways that confusion and errors can occur, the first is that somebody decides to upload some data to the days (level 0) instead of the month, and it doesn't add up to the total for the month. The second is that somebody decides to upload to the quarter, and thus the months no longer add up to the quarter amount. I treat these two conditions separately because in the first, the total is still represented by the amounts loaded to the monthly values, whereas the second case changes the grand total. If you were troubleshooting, you have to go level by level to see where the "breakdown" occurs by comparing each and every parent value to the sum of the children. It's a valid condition that is almost impossible to find quickly. There is no quick "show me all the inputs" approach, and no easy way to enforce an "input only at these levels" condition (there is, but there isn't as it's only practical in a perfect environment and trust me here you won't have it for long even if you could create it to begin with).
    So, long story short, data consistency goes out the window in a "load at upper level" cube, and the simple answer of providing an input member for the required generation(s) is much easier and reliable in the long run.
    Of course, there will always be exceptions, I just like to avoid them at all cost on this issue.

  • Top 10 lowest level dimension members based on measure

    Hi,
    I'm trying to create a condition with JDeveloper to show the top 10 dimension members based on a measure for the lowest level of the hierarchy, but doesn't work.
    All other conditions are working well, including top 10 dimension members in other levels of the hierarchy (not in the lowest).
    Any suggestion??
    I think the dimension is defined ok, all other conditions are working well and the lowest level could be shown with other conditions and drills.
    Thanks in advanced....

    Hi,
    First, my BI Beans version is 9.0.3.5 and my database version is 9.2.0.2.1
    I will try to clarify my problem. I am trying to create a graph to show the top10 members of a dimension based on my measure. When I define this condition
    to show the top 10 members of a middle level (not de low level), it works fine, I mean, it shows the top 10 members of that level. But, when I define the condition
    to show the top 10 members of the low level, it displays me that there is no data to display (The data has an insufficient number of columns and rows).
    I have been testing this case, and I have seen that if I change the low level column (number type) of the dimension to a varchar type column, it works. This low level is
    the primary key of the dimension table, and it's referenced by a foreign key in the fact table.
    Which could be the problem?? Is it not possible to define a level of a dimension with a number column??
    I have a demo sample to see this problem (two simple dimensionS with three levels and a fact table). It's a bit large to post it complete, so I post here an extract of it.

  • Java.sql.Statement.setFetchSize(int) option for non-scrollable result sets

    Hello!
    Our tests indicate that fetch size option mentioned makes visible difference in performance for non-scrollable result sets also. In the same time, it seems there is no way to set this option for such result sets at TopLink level, and default fetch size is always used instead.
    Can somebody propose a solution for this, I mean a way to specify custom fetch size (for results without any scrolling)?
    Thanks,
    Sergey

    To set the JDBC fetch size for a query, use the following APIs:
    int desiredFetchSize = 500;
    ReadAllQuery query = new ReadAllQuery(YourClass.class);
    CallQueryMechanism queryMechanism =
    (CallQueryMechanism) query.getQueryMechanism();
    DatabaseCall call = queryMechanism.getCall();
    call.setResultSetFetchSize(desiredFetchSize);
    If you wish to set the fetch size for all queries, consider using named queries for all queries (see the TopLink documentation for more information on named queries), and then configure them on startup.

  • Please help - new to Mac. Storage options for 11" MBA 128GB

    Hi,
    I am a PC laptop user considering moving over to a MBA 11". I need portability and I'm worried about the storage capacity for the MBA at 11" - I'm on a budget. The next step up for me would be the 13" MBP for storage space/cost (and then I start getting confused about Serial ATA/SSD).
    I currently estimate to have about 80-90GB of files on my PC (I estimated this from what's on my PC, and guessing at extras on my external HD). Most of this is music and photos from years of travel that I do not want to lose. My external HD once stopped working and I lost photos, so I never want that to happen again.
    I understand I can also get an external HD for the MBA, as well as back everything up with Time Capsule/Machine.
    Are there any other solid options?
    Is it too risky to store all music/photos solely on external drives, leaving the main machine free for work?
    The main things I will be using it for are writing, iTunes, streaming TV/movies, web browsing and blogging, and some light photo editing.
    Thanks for your help!

    Is it too risky to store all music/photos solely on external drives, leaving the main machine free for work?
    If you don't have them backed up to another hard drive, yes. I have a MacBook Air with a 256GB drive but I have about 3.5 TB of media (which is backed up on other drives). I keep a small selection of my photos, music, and video on the MBA but the rest is on a network accessable drive. If I have WiFi I can access the data on that drive. It is a pretty good solution.

  • Storage Location for NON valuated material in MIGO

    Hi friends ,
    I have created a purchase order for NON-Valuated material (UNBW) with Account Assignment "K".I did check the material type UNBW configuration where only Value Update is checked for my Plant.
    Now at the time of MIGO , system is asking for Storage lcoation (mandatory) and after MIGO system also updates quantity in Storage Location entered in MIGO.
    while in normal cases (like ROH material type) , if we create Account Assigned PO ( like K) , system neither ask for Storage lcoation at the time of MIGO , nor system updates Qty at any storage location.
    As per my understanding , if we create Purchase Order with account assignment K , system updates value in consumption and doesn't update Qty in stock (although material is stockable) .....which is simply like immediately issue of material to cost center.
    Therefore wondering why system is updating Qty for NON-VALUATED material.
    Does non valuated material means , POST value to Cost center (for account assignment K) and Update Qty in stock ?
    Like in case of Account Assignment , value gets charged to WBS and qty gets updated as special stock "project"
    All replies are welcome .....
    Regards
    Shrey

    By definition UNBW's are ony qty updating and have no value assoicated with them. Since the system needs to stock this qty somewhere it by deafult asks for a Sloc.

  • Oracle White Paper- Storage Option for RAC. on Linux

    hi..
    This in reference with White Paper.. Stotage Option for RAC on LINUX. Author- Umadevi Byrappa.
    Which states on page 10: To Use NAS for RAC database file storage select the file system storage option in OUI. or the Clustered file system storage option in DBCA.
    With which i disagree. File storage option of oracle 10g RAC only shows.
    1. Clustered File system.
    2. ASM
    3. Raw Devices.
    When i try to select Cfs and select the shared directory on NFS it says. < Directory_Name> is not a clustered file system or Shared on Both <Server_1> < Server_2>. and at this point of time i m stuck.
    1. I dont want to use OCFS as its not supporting NAS.
    2. Selecting CFS doesnt recognise mounted shared volume as valid storage device option can only store OCRfile and CSS file.
    3. So, I have to use ASM.. with zero padded files..which i dont want to because no other option. ( PART NO. B10766-02 PAGE C-6)
    Also, I would like oracle to provide Back up Recovery Option or Document which tells me how could i Recover Database when i use Zero Padded Files.
    What would be the best Option in the above scenario ?
    I hope by applying patch or with workaround somehow it shows Filesystem ONLY.I'll be the happiest man in this Case.
    Any suggestions and corrections are most welcome. I wish i m wrong.
    Nadeem ( [email protected] )

    NFS isn't a clustered file system at all - by RFC it is an exported file system with access controls
    If your vendor offers an NFS solution over and beyond that - more power to them. However that isn't "NFS"..
    http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc3010.html
    You can use NFS in a clustered server environment (to mount apps, read only data and for synchronous access to files), however it doesn't support the concurrency out of the box for RDBMS transactions - if a vendor is supporting this promise then that is for you to decide.
    However i stand by my statement that NFS is a file system exported across your network and not a full clustered file system.

  • Exclude members from a dynamic calc - how ?

    I've got a YTD figure as a dynamic calc in a 'YTD'member under the Time dimension. However users want to exclude certain members from the accounts dimension when the YTD dynamic figure is created.EGAccount dimension has members: Summary P&L Balance Sheet Want Balance Sheet not to be in YTD calcs.

    Thanks for the advice.Did try this, and believe I've set it up correctly, but it's still creating a YTD figure for the Balance Sheet members.Time dimension has YTD fig, example member below: P3 YTD(2Pass,Dynamic calc)=P01+P02+P03Account dimension has below example members under Balance Sheet,which I've set to be 'Time Balance Last':     Fixed Assets     Stock     Trade & Other Debtors     Group Debtors     Cash     Trade Creditors     What I want it to do for only P03 data to display for the Bal Sheet memebers.Have I missed something ?

  • Question about a file system storage option for RAC on 10g

    Hello everyone,
    I am in the beginning of connecting our storage and switches, and building RAC on them but there is a little argument between our specialists.
    We have two database servers(10g with OEL 5) to be clustered and two visible disk groups to each of those nodes. So question is can we choose only one disk group as a shared storage leaving the rest one as the redundant copy during database a creation window while installing the database.  Because some of us argue that oracle database has a built-in capability to decide on what level of RAID we store our data.
    Thank you for your help.

    "some of us argue that oracle database has a built-in capability to decide on what level of RAID we store our data".
    That statement is not true.  Oracle has optional multiplexing for control files, redo logs, and archive logs but this is not enabled by default and Oracle will not automatically enable it.  If you want redundancy of tables, indexes, temp, and undo you must provide this because Oracle does not offer it standard or as an option.  You can achieve redundancy with RAID at the array level, or host based mirroring (like ASM redundancy groups or Linux mdadm).  This can also depend on your file system because, I think, OCFS2 does not support host based mirroring (so you cannot use mdadm or lvm to mirror the storage if you are using OCFS2).
    Redundancy is not required, but it is recommended if you are using hard disks because they are prone to failures.  You can configure RAID 10 across all disks in the array and present this as one big LUN to the database server.  If you have two storage arrays and you want to mirror the data across the two arrays, then present all of the devices as JBOD and use Linux mdadm to create your RAID group.
    RAC requires shared storage.  Maybe you have a NAS or SAN device, and you will present LUNs to the Oracle database servers.  That is no problem.  The problem is making those LUNs usable by Oracle RAC.  When I used Oracle 10g RAC, I used the Linux raw device facility to manage these LUNs and make them ready for Oracle RAC.  However, raw has been desupported.  Today I would use either ASM or OCFS2.  This has nothing to do with redundancy, this is just because you are using RAC.

    My client wants that they should also be able to manage budge at Location or region level not only at the leaf(Dept) level.
    I did a lot of research and finally found out that the details can only printed at the leaf(Dept) level.......
    We can not hard code Region, locations and departments in table rows. When table tree is displayed we will only show all the regions... (US, UK, SA, IND, AUS, CAN,RUS, JPN.... etc..)
    For Example:
    Locations for US (NY, CA, OKH, WC...... etc.)
    Locaitons for UK (SC, ENG, WL..... etc)  and so on......
    Departments for CA (HR, IT, ADMIN, FIN, TRVL, OPRN........ etc. ..)
    Thanks in advance... It will be really great help if I get some breakthrough...

    Hi,
    what if you add a transient attribute to those view objects? This way you don't need to change the table structure.
