Storing a Variable from a load rule

Hi, I'm a newby to Essbase so I apologize if this is a simple question:I'm trying to store the current working day from a load rule and store it in a singe location in the model or even better in a variable. I've looked at substitution variables but it doesn't appear that you can set the value from a load rule and then use in the outline.I currently have a member in the period dimension where this is stored, however the value is being stored for each of the other dimensions as well, which seems a waste of storage.Any help would be much appreciated.Mark

As usual, there are a number of ways to do this, and a substitution variable has (IMHO) been somewhat deprecated in favor of UDA's and alias table references for almost all things that substitution variables were intended.Between these two, an Alias is the most appropriate choice for your needs -- and easier in the long run. Assigning a "Current Workday" alias to the appropriate time period is well inside the abilities of a load rule, but to remove the previously set one, you'll need to use an MAXL or Esscmd script. Dropping the entire alias table is your best bet, and you'll either need to use a dedicated table (that only sets the one alias), or you'll need to ensure that the load rule assigns all the aliases in the table.While not 100% complete, the above should point you in the right direction.

How to use a substitution variable in a load rule?

I need to use a substitution variable in a load rule in a column, as I will receive a parameter to fix the Month and Year values within the data loading, could somebody tell me if this is possible. I put an expresion "&Yearproc" in the column value but it is not working.

Go to: www.odtug.com, then Tech Resources, then Essbase/Hyperion, and search for Schwartzberg. Currently it's the ninth presentation on the list -- I think this changes based on popularity of downloads.

Substitution variable in sql load rules file

Okay gurus,
I need a little guidance, I have to replace the value of 201020 and 2008 from substitution variables. I have created the variables and set them up globally on the essbase server.
201020 = FW00
2008 = FY00
WHERE ACT.FISCAL_WEEK_ID <= 201020
AND ACT.FISCAL_YEAR_ID > 2008
AND RTDIV.DIV IN (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,99) (This is the query with hard coded values of week and year)
When i m trying to put sub variables there , its throwing the error. please find below the way i was trying to do it.
WHERE ACT.FISCAL_WEEK_ID = '&FW00'
AND ACT.FISCAL_YEAR_ID = '&FY00'
But unfortunately, its throwing error Error: 1021001 Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server. See log for more information
I know that this is the generic error because if i put the hard coded value in sql load rules it works fine.
Is it the right way to out sub var in sql load rules???

I tried to see the app log for sql but i m afraid that there is nothing in there, the only error message which I am getting in app log is this:
Failed to Establish Connection With SQL Database Server. See log for more information
Its an ASO cube and initially i was using the variable as FY00 AS "2008" it did not work and than i tried without quotes in variable but is still not working.
Any idea..thanks in advance.

Variable in the Load Rule file

Hi,
We're running EAS 9.3.1 and trying to update a load rule to include a substitution variable in the header. The load rule works fine when the member name is defined explicitly and the variable works fine in the calc scripts. Any ideas? I tried removing the quotes and the & symbol already. See error below.

Did you remove the quotes by using the replace in "field Properties" and Global properties tab? I am trying to replace double quotes with null in the data file and it does not seems to be working.

Substitution Variable in Data Load Rule

A quich test on sample basic says no. I exported the data in column format and cleared the data. Then I created a load rule with selection criteria of a substitution variable and itdid not load any rows. I then changed the sub variable to an actual month and it loaded fine

Substitution Variables in Essbase Load Rules File

Has anyone tried using substitution variables in Load Rules File Header definition?
I need to load data based on the Year & I have different Files for 3 Years- CurYr, BudYr1 & BudYr2. Is it allowed to specify the Year Substitution variable in the Rule File Header? I am getting an error while loading.

I figured it out. The error message I was getting was because of some parsing issue. I have defined Year as "FY12" in quotes. I removed quotes & it worked.

Referencing a substitution variable in data load rule header definition

Hi All,
Im trying to add a substitution variable to the header definition of a DLR.
the sub var is &CurrMonth.
When I execute the data load I get an "unknown member error" with a list of all members in the header definition, including Oct which is my current month.
It looks like the DLR is resolving the sub var but for some reason it is refusing to load data.
We are on 9.2.0.1.
Are sub vars referenced differently for DLR?

Maxl - load rules from file system

I am writing a Maxl script and I can get it to run "using server rules_file". When I created the rules file I save it to the file system and browse to it using EAS. Does anyone know what the syntax is to run the rules file from the file system while in a Maxl script?

Hi guys, back to revisiting the calc script from maxl, but this time a new twist:
One of the suggestions was to copy the calc script from the local drive to the essbase server (this would require FTP since essbase is running on Unix), the client isn't sold on that idea. The second idea would be to save the calc scripts in a separate database on the server and reference them from there.
Just as a reminder, I am storing the load rules and calc scripts in a different location because it is an HPCM application and each time I deploy, the calc scripts get deleted automatically.
I have a database and app as follows CostC.CostC and have created another db and app CostRef.CostRef. My script is C_Prof_A.csc and it is saved in CostRef.CostRef. Is it possible to execute a calc script saved in another database/app on a different database/app?
if I save the script in CostC.CostC, I can execute it in Maxl as follows: execute calculation 'CostC'.'CostC'.'C_Prof_A';
There is a snippet on the Rittman Mead Consulting blog that references a local Script_file

When I try something similar, it barks at me when it sees "with", I have tried "using" etc. but can't get anything to work.
If this doesn't work, then I will be reduced to the FTP process. If that is the case, if anyone has an example of the FTP commands I would appreciate it

How to get values from a stored package variable of type record ?

In my JClient form, I need to get values from a database stored package variable of type record. And the values are retained in the JClient form for the whole session. The values are copied only once when the form is started.
What is the best way to do that ?

not sure what your model is, but if it is Business Components, I think I would expose the properties as a client method on the application module. This way all JClient panels and frames will have access to it. You could use a HashMap to store the data in teh app module.
If JDBC supports the record type, then you should be able to call it via a prepared SQL statement. If not, you may consider writing a PLSQL accessor to your stored procedure that returns something that can be handled.

Substitution variable in Load rule Header Essbase 11.1.1.3

Think its obvious you can use substitution variable as a Header definition on Load rules, does version 11.1.1.3 has any issues' with it, i am running into Unexpected Essbase error 1019026.

I want to copy Actual data into other scenario's in ASO cube so thought will use substitution variables to eliminate duplication on load rules.
Mgmt Actual is a scenario set thru Substitution variable at the DB level
i.e *&CurScen="Mgmt Actual" (set at DB level)*
Header Definition on load rule *&CurScen,"Base","No Vertical","No Customer"*
Data load work fine If i replace substitution variable with original member *"Mgmt Actual","Base","No Vertical","No Customer"*.
I did notice some users complaining erratic behavior when substitution variables are placed in load rule header at the End on multiple members, i have tried all places End, First and Middle.
tried using single Load rule with EAS and MAXl same results.
i want to keep altering scenarios on header definition and use same rule files.
alter database AppName.DbName set variable CurScen '"Mgmt Actual"';
Running out of ideas any help!

Possible Problems
Analytic Services does not recognize the listed string as a member of the outline.
Possible Solutions
Make sure that the member name is valid. The member name is in the rules file.
* Are you using the correct rules file?
* Is the rules file connected to the correct outline?
* Can you validate the rules file?
* Are member names or variable names enclosed in quotation marks where necessary?
* Does the member exist in the outline? If not, you can add the member by modifying the outline during the dimension build or add the member in the Outline Editor.
* Make sure that the member is not specified as a header in the rules file.

How to load variables from a .txt file

Hi.
I usually make a flash aplication in colaboration with a php
programmer. But i want to test my swfs without having to wait for
him. So i want to do that through a text file. I know that flash
can load variables from text files. The problem is i don't know how
to format the text file ( example.txt).

Here's a couple of ideas.
First you probably want to change what you have...and put
your 'if (pVar==1' etc inside a separate function and call it from
the onLoad handler after you have assigned the value to pVar...
because the onLoad will run at some unknown point in time after
loading has finished (actually in the test environment this might
work... but that wouldn't be the same as what happens in a
production setting).
To create test files for loadvars... simply create a new as2
file and put this code on the first frame and test movie:

Error validating business rules containing variable from another plan type.

We have created few business rules in in plan type "Plan1" which we are using variable from plan type "Capex". This is how we are using it.

But when we validate this rule it gives the following error

We have checked the location aliases using EAS Console and they are correct.

Could you pls. check if you can see your BR in the location for the cube where you are unable to validate the rule?! (EAS console --> Administration --> Locations --> (right click) open)
your user must be able to "validate or launch" the rule in this location (changeable with "Add Access Privileges") and the rule itself must be able to launch in this location (changeable with "Add rules").

Loading Variables from ASP into Flash

I can find plenty of tutorials detailing how to load
variables from a defined asp page into Flash, but here's my
dilemma...
I have an asp page that is reading a URL with a unique
identifier in it (www.sampleURL.com?id=123456), and then turns the
id number from the URL into a variable. On the same page then, sits
my swf where I need to use LoadVars to pull in that ASP variable
via Actionscript. If I don't have a static asp page to pull the
variables in from and I want to pass the variable within the same
asp page the swf is located on, how do I do it? Many thanks in

You don't need LoadVars for this at all. You can just pass
the variable to
your Flash movie by specifying a query string when you are
calling the
movie.
If you are using the straight object, embed method then it
would look
something like this:
<param name="movie" value="movie.swf?id=11111">
<embed src="movie.swf?id=11111" ... >
If you are using the ActiveContent JavaScript for your movie
then you just
leave off the .swf... so
"name", "movie?id=11111"
Then, in flash you can access the value of id from the _root,
like
var idInFlash:Number = _root.id;
Of course in the above example you would replace 11111 with
the proper
syntax for printing a variable's value in ASP.

Movie refuses to load variables from text file

I'm sure you can solve my newbie problem in less than 1
minute...
I'm pulling my hair out on a template I bought 2 days ago
from templatemonster.com
I am using Flash 8 Pro.
All I want to do is change an existing textfield that is
Static to Dynamic and load variables from a text file.
The Action Script I use to do so comes directly from
Macromedia documentation (see attached)
It works fine when I create a brand new movie, but doesn't do
anything when inserted into the template.
It doesn't even complain about not finding the text file if I
rename or delete it!
Here are the FLA and text file:

The textfield I would like to change is in the txt2 symbol.
Here is how I proceed:
When I open HEADER.FLA, Flash tells me I'm missing a font,
ok, so I click on Use Default, I'll deal with this later.
I open up the Movie Explorer, go to Layer 30, go to Frame 75
and click once on txt2
I name the instance "myMovie_mc" and save (converts from
Flash MX to Flash 8)
I double-click on the Movie Clip, select the word
"Automobile" on the Stage, change from Static to Dynamic and call
that instance "myText_txt"
Still in the Movie Clip, I create a new layer I call
"actions", and in Frame 1 I copy the attached Action Script:
This script works when I create a new flash file, but it does
absolutely nothing in this template.
I know I'm doing something wrong, but I wonder what?

Flash loads XML variables from cache memory...

Hi everyone. This is a very important issue. I have been in
many many forums looking for this answer and no one fulfills my
expectations. As I said on title... I have created a small
application that edits my XML file in server. It really works,
because I open manually my file and it's perfectly modified...
however, everytime I refresh my page it loads the ancient XML
variables because they come from cache...
I also could find out that this problem is mainly happening
with IExplorer, not with Mozilla Firefox.... however, I need it to
run on IE too... but can not find a real solution.. I have been
told to add random numbers to the XMl file extenskion, and other
things like that, honestly... they do not work... please... does
anybody have the light on this issue ??? I will appreciate your
answers...
