Storing Graphics in an Oracle Table

I am using Actuate to develop a series of reports from an 8i database. I use several graphics files as sources for report images. These are all derived from .TIF formatted files. Is there a way to grab these images in binary format and incorporate them as table columns?

John,
Although TIF files can be easily stored in BLOB columns of your tables, the report program has to know how to read them.

Geoff

  • Storing JSON string into Oracle table

    Hi,
    What is appropriate way to store JSON string into Oracle table?
    Regards

    If JSON becomes more popular, ORACLE might write data cartridge extension for JSONDB (in the same way as XMLDB).
    Till then CLOB and NCLOB is your best choice, and leave the parsing in your application layer.

    hi
    I have stored pdf files in oracle table , how do we get this and store as a .pdf file .How to find pdf files please help me.

    This is indeed helpful as an example, but what I tried to show in my example is that the content of the field that I am trying to print is html--many times a table--but I do not know what the contents are, (and perhaps I do not know xsl well enough), I can't take the example here and apply a table to the xsl file. • Writing a stored procedure to import SQL Server table data into a Oracle table

    Hello,
    As a new DBA I have been tasked with writing a stored procedure to import SQL Server table data into an Oracle table. I have been given many suggestions on how to do it from SQL Server but I I just need to write a stored procedure to run it from the Oracle side. Suggestions/guidance on where to start would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
    I started to write it based on what I have but I know this is not correct :/
    # Here is the select statement for the data source in SQL Server...
    SELECT COMPANY
    ,CUSTOMER
    ,TRANS_TYPE
    ,INVOICE

    ,STATUS
    ,TRAN_AMT
    ,CREDIT_AMT
    ,APPLD_AMT
    ,ADJ_AMT
    ,TRANS_USER1
    ,PROCESS_LEVEL
    ,DESCRIPTION
    ,DUE_DATE
    ,OUR_DATE
    ,OUR_TIME
    ,PROCESS_FLAG
    ,ERROR_DESCRIPTION
      FROM data_source_table_name
    #It loads data into the table in Oracle....
    Insert into oracle_destination_table_name (
    COMPANY,
    CUSTOMER,
    TRANS_TYPE,
    INVOICE,
    TRANS_DATE,
    STATUS,
    TRANS_AMT,

    DUE_DATE,
    OUR_DATE,
    OUR_TIME,
    PROCESS_FLAG,
    ERROR_DESCRIPTION)
    END;

    CREATE TABLE statements would have been better as MS-SQL and Oracle don't have the same data types.
    OUR_DATE, OUR_TIME will (most likely) be ONE column in Oracle.
    DATABASE LINK
    Personally, I'd just load the data over a database link:
    insert into oracle_destination_table_name ( <column list> )
    select ... <transform data here>
    from data_source_table@mssql_db_link
    As far as creating the database link from Oracle to MS-SQL ... that is for somebody else to answer.
    (most likely you'll need to use an ODBC driver)
    EXTERNAL TABLE
    If the data from MS-SQL is in a CSV file, just use and external table.
    same concept:
    insert into oracle_destination_table_name ( <column list> )
    select ... <transform data here>
    from data_source_external_table

  • Storing an Excel File in the Oracle Table through Oracle Form (10g)

    Hi,
    We have the below requirement in the Oracle Forms (10g).
    Database: 11g
    Application: R12
    We need to provide an upload functionality to the user, so that he can upload an excel file into the form (from the local system), this is achived.
    Now what we need to do is that we need to capture the path of the document (in the local system) and we need to store the document in a Oracle table.
    Next we need to validate the records that are being loaded and the error records should be written into one more file and that file also we need to store in an Oracle table, this is because, i need to query this error file from the table later and need to send to the user as an e-mail.
    Basically i started off with the below code just for the POC. but iam facing the error. Please help. I did not put this code in my form.
    Create Table Email_Attachments(Id_Pk Integer Primary Key,Fname Varchar2(50),Image Blob);

    Please share your ideas as to how to acheive this.
    Thanks and Regards

    When you want to process the file, them it depends on the format. "Excel file" is a term that is used for a variety of file formats, mostly simple CSV, binary (true) XLS and XLSX.
    So to get help you have to give us more information. Since the file is already in the db you might get better answers at {forum:id=75}. The forum has a FAQ that has a whole section {message:id=9360007}.

  • Parsing XML file & insert into Oracle Tables

    Hi,
    Following is a sample xml file which is an input for a oracle procedure :

    <Customer ID="1" Name="Scott" Address="City1">

    I have individual tables for Sales, Customer, Order, Item, User & City tags with proper referential constraints. I have to parse the xml & have to insert the corresponsing tables for each & every tag if the ID in individual tag does not exists in the table. If the ID already exist, then, I have to update other attributes in the table for the corresponding ID.
    Can anyone suggest me the simplest way to perform the above said scenario?

  • How can I store the results of a report in an Oracle table ?

    In OBIEE 11g, we need the records resulting from the execution of a report, to be stored in an Oracle table.
    Is this possible ?. Thanks.

    GSR Hi, first of all thanks for your response.
    What I'm wanting to do is not exactly what you're proposing.
    What I want is that an end user can run a report and that the results be automatically stored in an Oracle table. Without manual intervention. Other BI products perform this action, and I need to do it with OBIEE. Thanks.

    @OP,
    I have a Clob file as a in parameter in my PROC. . File is comma separated.need procedure that would parse this CLOB variable and populate in oracle table .You don't have a "clob file" as there's no such thing. CLOB is a datatype for storing large character based objects. A file is something on the operating system's filesystem.
    So, why have you stored comma seperated data in a CLOB?
    Where did this data come from? If it came from a file, why didn't you use SQL*Loader or, even better, External Tables to read and parse the data into structured format when populating the database with it?
    If you really do have to parse a CLOB of data to pull out the comma seperated values, then you're going to have to write something yourself to do that, reading "lines" by looking for the newline character(s), and then breaking up the "lines" into the component data by looking for commas within it, using normal string functions such as INSTR and SUBSTR or, if necessary, REGEXP_INSTR and REGEXP_SUBSTR. If you have string data that contains commas but uses double quotes around the string, then you'll also have the added complexity of ignoring commas within such string data.
    Like I say... it's much easier with SQL*Loader of External Tables as these are designed to parse such CSV type data.

  • Problem refreshing an Oracle table in MapInfo that's been updated in Oracle

    Dear all
    I am doing some digitising work in MapInfo Professional 8, using a table stored in Oracle 10.2g. I have completed the bulk of my digitising and the polygons have been written back to the Oracle database without any issues.
    As I am working with several maps coving the same area, but from different dates, I have simply been copying the shapes from one field to another, for areas that are the same on other maps. This avoids having to digitise an area more than once.
    Here is an example of my table:
    map_index_id  original_map_publication_id  name_of_feature         geographical_coordinates
    5000840       200016                       NORTH STREET            MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY [1a]
    5000841       200016                       NORTH STREET QUADRANT   MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY [2a]
    5000843       200016                       OLD STEINE              MDSYS.SDO_GEOMETRY [3a]
    5000955       200021                       NORTH STREET            null [1b]
    5000956       200021                       NORTH STREET QUADRANT   null [2b]
    5000957       200021                       OLD STEINE              null [3b]The idea is that the geometry of 1a is copied to 1b, 2a to 2b and so on. The script I am using to do this, is as follows:
    undefine name_of_feature_to_be_used
    undefine name_of_feature_to_be_updated
    UPDATE MAP_INDEX  B
    SET (B.geographical_coordinates) =
    (SELECT A.geographical_coordinates
    FROM MAP_INDEX A
    WHERE A.original_map_publication_id=&&original_map_to_be_used
    AND A.name_of_feature='&&name_of_feature_to_be_used')
    WHERE B.original_map_publication_id=original_map_to_be_updated
    AND B.name_of_feature='&&name_of_feature_to_be_updated';That works okay. The problem I have is that whenever I make changes to the geographical_coordinates column, which is an sdo_geometry column, the changes are not then being picked up by MapInfo Professional when I click refresh DBMS table in that program.
    If I make additional changes in MapInfo and then save the table out, it simply wipes all the changes I have made in Oracle, using my above SQL script.
    I believe what happens when a table is first made mapping in MapInfo, is that MapInfo takes the Oracle sdo_column: geographical_coordinates and links this to a MapInfo column called obj , since MapInfo seems to only allow the spatial column to be called obj. All other columns are brought in using their Oracle names. What I think it isn't doing though, is relinking this column at any point afterwards.
    Am I correct and if so, does anyone have a away round this problem? I made my Oracle table "download table [link to Oracle]". Would keeping the table live, make any difference?
    Kind regards
    Tim

    Hi Ivan and everyone
    Thank you for your reply. The geometries are not always the same. I have now found out what the problem is and how to solve it and I will explain this for the benefit of others.
    When I update a spatial column for a row ,outside of MapInfo Professional 8, it is not picking up the updates.
    When I update a non-spatial column for a row, outside of MapInfo Professional 8, it is picking up the updates.
    When I update a non-spatial column and a geometry column for a row, outside of MapInfo Professional 8, it is picking up the updates for both columns.
    Therefore a solution to my problem is to create an additional non-spatial column, which I update everytime I copy the geometry values. Then when I refresh the table in MapInfo, it will pick up the geometry changes. I do not understand why MapInfo will not pick up the updates to the spatial columns on their own but it is not doing this.
    I did a test to see what would happen if I updated three rows where all three rows had there geometry values updated but only two rows had a non-spatial column value updated.
    When opened up the table in MapInfo, using the following MapInfo SQL:
    Select * From "user name here"."MAP_INDEX_FOR_MAPINFO_USE"
    WHERE not GEOGRAPHICAL_COORDINATES Is Null
    AND original_map_publication_id=200010
    AND original_map_sheet_number_id=330010it brought in only the two rows whose non-spatial column had been updated. The row where only it's spatial column was amended, was not brought in. There was no other rows brought in because no other row for that publication and sheet had been updated.
    Why this is occurring I do not know. It may be that issue was resolved in later versions of MapInfo. I am very happy to have found a solution to my problem. However I do feel it is something I should not be having to do in the first place, no matter how pleased I am to have found a solution.
    Kind regards
    Tim

    To use graphics in the SAPScript FORMS they must be imported to R/3 system for this we use transaction SE78 or report RSTXLDMC and give the graphics a name . The image type is generally .TIF(tagged image format) or .BMP (windows bitmap file) .
    The RSTXLDMC report is used to import images which are in Tagged Image Format (.TIF) into R/3 and saved as standard text (OBJECT TEXT and ID ST) in the system. Since these images (.TIF) are stored as standard text they can be included in the sapscript using the standard INCLUDE statement. The image to be used if is not in .TIF format than it should be converted to this format e.g. by using IMAGING program in WINDOWS.
    Once converted to .TIF they can be used in RSTXLDMC report. The image is stored by the name of ZHEX-MARCO-name . The other parameters in this report e.g. are used to indicate the type of IMAGE
    BCOL for color or BMON for mono color images.
    e.g. /:INCLUDE ZHEX-MARCO-name OBJECT TEXT ID ST
    After the graphics has been imported we can use the INCLUDE statement to include the graphics or use the menu Edit->Graphics->Create.
    e.g. /:BITMAP logo OBJECT GRAPHICS ID BMAP .
    The above include statement is inserted automatically if we use the menu command.

    TEXT_IO is a PL/SQL package available only in Forms (you'll want to post in the Forms forum for more information). It is not available in a stored procedure in the database (where the equivalent package is UTL_FILE).
    If the Terminal Server machine and the database machine do not have access to the file system on the client machine, no application running on either machine will have access to the file. Barring exceptional setups (like the FTP server on the client machine), your applications are not going to have more access to the client machine than the operating system does.
    If you map the client drives from the Terminal Server box, there is the potential for your Forms application to access those files. If you want the files to be accessible to a stored procedure in the database, you'll need to move the files somewhere the database can access them.

  • Any tricks to store pdf file generated via jasper to oracle tables.

    i need to generate pdf file ..for records in a cursor..
    So i use jasper integration kit ... to accomplish the same...
    issue is .. i need to press a button and then pdfs file shoudl be generated...and stored in a table as a blob..My process does this..
    But since the process can be fired only on condition. on load before header...
    The result is i get my pdf file generated and stored in table ..but the page is a blank page..seems like it is some jasper page..
    http://127.0.0.1:82/apex/f?p=132:267:3324851978466855::::: The page looks empty...I will not want it to look empty...
    i will like after pressing a button immediatley it shows a page processing and when processing is done... it shifts to other page...
    I am putting the part of code which generates the pdf file ...any guidance or help shall be appreciated..
    So i hope you understood the issue..*Issue is when button is pressed i see a blank page..THough the below process is fired pdf file genrated and stored in oracle tables..as blob.. I will like instead of blank page it displays me some othe page..say like processing and once done it shoudl say processing complete..*
    Any guidance will be kindly appreciated..
    Thanks paul johny
    Below you will see the stored procedure i use..to generate the pdf files...
    create or replace procedure lordslave is
    cursor c1 is select subscribe_no from subscribers
    where subscribe_no > 296;
    l_blob BLOB;
    l_mime_type VARCHAR2 (100);
    begin
    for xxx in c1
    loop
    begin
    --xlog ('PRC_GET_REPORT_TUNNEL', 'url (orig):' || 'http://localhost:84/JasperReportsIntegration/report?_repName=test_repFormat=pdf_dataSource=def1_outFilename=tes.txt_repLocale=de_DE,repEncoding=UTF-8');
    xlib_jasperreports.set_report_url ('http://192.168.1.3:84/JasperReportsIntegration/report');
    xlib_jasperreports.get_report
    (p_rep_name => 'subinvx',
    p_rep_format => 'pdf',
    p_data_source => 'default',
    p_rep_locale => 'de_DE',
    p_rep_encoding => 'UTF-8',
    p_additional_params => 'Psubscribe_no='||390,
    p_out_blob => l_blob,
    p_out_mime_type => l_mime_type
    BLOB_LOADB (mid(),xxx.subscribe_no,'SUBSCRIBERINVOICE','mfilename',l_mime_type,l_blob);
    -- release resources
    DBMS_LOB.freetemporary (l_blob);
    -- stop rendering of APEX page
    apex_application.g_unrecoverable_error := TRUE;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN OTHERS
    THEN
    xlog ('PRC_GET_REPORT_TUNNEL', SQLERRM, 'ERROR');
    RAISE;
    END;
    end loop;
    end;

    All you need to do - is that you should use the column data type as Long Raw.Why would you recommend using LONG RAW which has been deprecated in favour of BLOB for years?
    You can find a simple example of inserting a file into a BLOB column using JDBC here. The Oracle JDBC docs are also worth a read. Find out more.
    Cheers, APC
