Strange Mail Behavior when cicking reply to

I am having a very different but very strange behavior when in mail 5.2 I click on reply or forward in my menu bar a new mail window opens up and quickly moves off to the right of the screen and disappears laving my inbox. I cannot find where they are going and the only way I can respond is open the mail in a new window. This is weird I have been using mail forever and never seen this before?
any suggestions???
mac os 10.7.4
Thanks for any suggestions

So Mail doesn’t really crash (i.e. quit unexpectedly). Rather, it freezes (i.e. becomes unresponsive), right?
What type of mail account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)?
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
Try disabling Search .Mac For Certificates in Keychain Access > Preferences if it’s enabled. Take a look at the following articles for an explanation of why this could be the problem:

  • Mail.app randomly chooses incorrect mail alias when i reply to mails

    Hi
    Hope this makes sense. I have a few additional .mac mail aliases set up one in particular i use a lot for subscriptions to job sites and any other subscriptions. Problem i have is if i create a new mail and choose the alias from the pull down list and send it everything is fine, this is also true if someone sends a mail to that alias as well. Problems i'm continually having is that when i reply to a replied mail or an incoming one that's been sent to the alias occasionally but quite a lot i guess, the mail from address changes to my default main account and not the account the mail was sent to.
    This is so frustrating as my real account has been sent out to certain conpanies that i should'nt have because when i click reply it will disregard the mail alias it was sent to and just choose my default.
    it doesn't happen always but a lot. Anyone else seen this issue or have any suggestions? Just to clarify, my aliases work fine as do the option to choose and alias from the pull down list it's just when replying to a mail sent to that alias.
    Thanks for reading this far.

    Hi Numbatfouram,
    I know how this works, let see if I can explain it!!...
    When you hit the "new" button to compose an outgoing email, whichever account in your Inbox is highlighted is the one that the outgoing mail address defaults to. So make sure your Inbox toggle is down, which should show all your accounts. So when you are sorting thru your mail and want to reply to one in "XXXX" account you will be "in" that account.
    Whew, did that make sense?

  • Mail crashing when selecting 'reply' to email

    For some reason when replying to emails in 'Mail' the program goes to the beach ball.
    If I just select new email and address it to the person that sent me the email I want to reply to all is OK.
    Hope someone can help.

  • Strange Mail behaviors

    For the past few months, the first time each day I use Mail to reply to or forward a message, is takes about 15 to 30 seconds of twirling colorwheel before the message window pops up. I get a similar delay the first time I try to attach a file.
    What might be my problem?

    Is your profile accurate? Does this happen on a PowerPC-based Mac?
    Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
    What type of mail account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)? If IMAP or .Mac, what are your Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors > Drafts settings?
    The first release of Safari 3 Beta was known to cause this problem in Mail as well, so be sure you either don’t have that installed or install the latest version.

  • MacBook Air has strange new behavior when I log in.

    When I go to log onto my MacBook Air, the screen stays dark except for a strange "path" that reveals the screen behind my curser. Very strange. Having owned Macs for years, I've never seen this before. Has anybody else had this happen? What would cause this?

    Does it happen when you startup in Safe Mode ?

  • Strange Mail behavior

    OK, this just started yesterday:
    I can enter ONE (1) addressee for a new email message. If I want to add another name (Boba...), this is what I get:
    BBoBobBobbBobbaBobbaBobba
    If I touch the delete key, I just get another "Bobba." If I highlight the whole mess and delete, it leaves me with the first 5 letters: BBoBO which I cannot delete.
    I am stuck sending one email at a time (when I want multiple addressees).
    I have reset permissions and restarted computer. I have deleted all addresses from Address book and restored them from 3 days ago.
    How can I shut off this auto-type feature that produces this garbage--also, how can I delete this stuff?
    Or, how can I save my mailboxes and then how can I reinstall just Mail?

    Still need help. Since posting the original question, I think the basis of the problem is in Address Book. I used the Optional Installs from the Leopard DVD today to reinstall (update) just the Address Book. This did not help. Here is my problem in Address Book (similar to problem in Mail of my earlier post):
    If I want to add a new address, for name (First), I start to type Nancy, but what I get is "Naaaa";
    each time I touch delete, I get a whole bunch more Na characters.
    So in Mail, I can use it if I have only 1 address. If I want a second address, I get into this repeating mode and have to trash the email and start over with only 1 address.

  • Super Strange Mail Behaviors

    For the whole day I've been trying to send one piece of email. The problems I have encountered have been numerous, but above the most troublesome were:
    In an attemt to send a flyer as a pdf attachement I received a message saying the content was over the 10mb limit. So I then archived the flyer and sent it as a zip pdf file. It was at that point that I started experiences problems sending the email - application problems. The mail didn't send immediately, it went to the outbox and sat there for over 15 minutes. As you can imagine I was very impatient and deleted the outgoing email to resend it. Still it went to the outbox. So I sent another duplicate email to a mac email address to see if the problem was with the receipient and the same thing happened. It was only after 30 mins it showed up in the mac receipients mailbox. My problem has been with the vast amount of time it takes for email to be sent. Also not all mail sent, that I know for sure has been received, comes to my sent mailbox. While having the sending difficulties I also experiened a disapperance of all mail content in my inbox, outbox and sent box. I'd quit the application and only after 30secs to a minute did everything upload. My last problem has to do with trying to open the mail application and quitting it. I could click on the mail icon with the mouse and the icon would become animated then settle as the gray "application open" arrow indicator would appear. However the mail viewer wouldn't open. Clicking, and reclicking on the icon doesn't do a thing. Also I couldn't quit the application because he quit mail selection under the file heading would be gray and not black. I would then try to restart the computer via the apple menu and would come back with an alert saying mail failed to close. I tried to shut down the comuter as well the same way and received a similar message. My only saving grace was pushing the fail safe power down button. I turned the comuter back on and the application started up after selecting it but the last email I sent was still in the outbox - from one hour before.
    The only culprit I can suspect is the new apple router - Apple Extreme - that I just installed one week ago. I am able to receive a connection via my comcast broadband service. I have one PC w/o wireless capabalities hooked up that is able to access the internet and email via the ethernet cable and my two macbook pros recognize an apple network, although I haven't set one up. However the connection may not be complete because the light is blinking amber instead of a solid green and the rate of connection and uploading websites/links aren't super fast. I'm not sure how to fix this problem.
    Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

  • Strange query behavior when displayed in browser.

    Hi gurus,
    when I open a query in browser on one of the computers, I get no detailed cells, just the overall result.
    No matter, if I open the query in Portal, or in BEx Web Analyzer.
    When I use BEx Analyzer, everything seems to be fine.
    When I open the same query, on the same user, but on another computer, queries are displayed properly.
    Do you know what might cause the problem? Maybe some browser settings?
    Regards,
    Dorota

    Thanks, we recently installed a new GUI version on this computer, so probably you're right

  • Can I have Craigslist select AOL as the outgoing mail server when I reply to an ad?

    Although in IMail Preferences I presently have AOL selected as my outgoing mail server, Craislist instead selects my IMail server, which has never worked properly. What can I do to have these Craigslist replys sent via AOL? I'm using an Imac desk top with OS 10.5.8  Thank you, Rick.

    In iCloud/Mail, have you tried going to Preferences (select with gear at lower left)/Composing and setting a Send from address there?

  • Strange text behavior when exporting to pdf

    I have this problem happening all the time - am I doing something wrong or is this a gitch?
    I have a question style that shoots to the left when at the top of a page and when the frame touches the top frame guide. If I move the frame very slightly it goes back to where it belongs - however having to always move the frame that otherwise sits automatically on the page guide is really annoying and time consumming. The second ilmage shows how the line goes to the left - this happens in Indesign usually. However the captures below show another problem that happened yesterday. In this case there was a difference between the InDesign file and the pdf file.
    1st image is inDesign view
    2nd image is odf view - the pdf looks different from what we have in InDesign.
    Any reason why this would happen?

    Acrobat, and Reader, have user preferences, just like other Adobe programs, and you can turn smoothing on or off for text and lineart (this also affects "stitching" on PDFs made with flattened transparency).
    InDesign automatically tries to embed all but the most complex (read CJK) fonts when exporting, and should throw a warning, if you haven't turned it off, when it cannot embed due to font licensing restrictions (in which case I would change the font). Printing to PDF requires that font embedding be enabled in the joboptions that are used by distiller, and those options are quite flexible as far as all, none, or some (i.e. you can designate fonts to always embed or never embed).

  • TS3276 When I reply to an e-mail it comes out blank the other end?

    I do not have problems sending e-mails but when I reply to an e-mail it sends but comes out blank the other end?

    '''re: Forwarding'''
    You have the option to forward the received email 'inline' or as an 'attachment'.
    This can be set up here:
    'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Composition' > 'General' tab
    This is because you are not responding to a specific email - you are selecting to forward information from a different person to another person, which may be best sent as an attachment.
    '''re: Reply'''
    In this instance you have the option to either:
    * include the received email in a reply
    * Not include the received email in a reply
    * include selected part (quote) of received email in reply.
    A Reply implies a continued conversation and so the option to include the conversation is available.
    This is set up here:
    'Tools' > 'Account Settings' > 'Composition & Addressing' for the mail account.
    But regardless of whether you choose to 'automatically quote the original message when replying' or not, you can always highlight a section of text and then click on 'Reply' to include only the selected section of text.
    A Reply will also not include any attachments that were received attached to the original email because you do not need to send back the senders own attachments.
    Otherwise you create a new 'Write' message and attach the original email, so it is not technically a Reply - you do not use the 'Reply' button and these emails will not be threaded. It makes it more difficult to see continuity of conversation.

  • Mail empty when reply

    Hi.
    I have several Apple products connected to icloud, before that they where hooked up to MobileMe. Everything worked fine until a couple of weeks ago. Suddenly my MacBook Air automatically erases all the mail history when I reply. It doesn't matter If I change the settings, all the text in the e-mail dissappears when I reply on a message. If I use my iPad, iPhone or iMac the text stays - it's just on the MacBook Air. When I forward an e-mail to other recipients, the history (content) stays, both text and if there are attached files.
    Last week I upgraded OS X to 10.7.4 via Software Update, but the problem consists.
    Has anyone else experienced the same problems?

    The problem is getting worse and worse. Andreeeeew has the same problem : https://discussions.apple.com/message/23718400#23718400
    Obviously there is a bug in Mail, why doesn't Apple react to this?

  • Mail Problem - can't 'Reply' or write 'New' email message

    Hi all:)
    I have a bit of a problem with my mail. When I 'reply' to a message, the sender's address does not come up in the 'to' field. I can type in an address and can put in a subject, but the cursor will not go down to the main body of the message. The same thing happens when I try to send a 'New' message - I can input an email address in the 'To' field and type in a Subject, but the cursor will not go down into the main body - consequently, I can't type a message.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    All the best
    PS: I have tried to Rebuild my mailbox but it didn't help with this problem

    Hi gav, and a welcome to the forums!
    Yes, you can, but Might try this first...
    Quit Mail...
    First I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
    Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
    Try dragging this file to the desktop in case we need to put it back later, then logout/in...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    (May or may not require you to setup your account(s) again.)
    Quit Mail, then In your home folder, try moving this +folder & file+ to the Desktop then reboot...
    First, Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these +folder & file+ to the Desktop.
    Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
    Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.

  • Strange XSLT Behavior: xsl:template match

    Hello I found the following strange XSLT behavior when using xsl:template. I only want to read the content of the element /Source/Surname/Details. Therefore I match this path using xsl:template match.
    What is strange that in the target message also the value of the Element LastName is written at the end. Please see example below. This is just a short example to point out the problem. I have a bigger message structure where I have to match a similar path. How can I avoid the the value of the FullDetails is just written at the end (not even beeing in an element)? I would have expected that the path is only matched once and the instructions then executed without <LastName> beeing even touched.I used XML Spy for this test.
    Here is an example:
    Source message:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <Source>
         <Surname>
              <Details>MyFirstName</Details>
         </Surname>
         <LastName>
              <FullDetails> MyLastName </FullDetails>
         </LastName>
    </Source>
    XSLT
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:fo="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Format">
