Strange message showed up in a dialog box. should i be worried?

hi. i stepped away from my mac pro (OSX 10.5.8) and when i came back about 20 minutes later saw this message in a dialog box:
This computer's local hostname "mynames'mac-pro.local" is already in use on this network. The name has been changed to "mynames-mac-pro-2.local". (my real name was where i have typed 'my name')
To change the local hostname, open System Preferences and click Sharing, then click Edit and type the name in the Local Hostname field.
i am the only user of my computer so i am wondering if some virus/malware has tried to install something on my computer possibly. Does anyone know why this would show up or what it is about? i don't share files and am the only user of my computer. should i need to change the hostname back to what it was originally?
thanks in advance for your help!

oops. after i posted the 'more like this' sidebar showed the answer to this so i'll try to fix this now. thanks.

  • Problem with global ExceptionHandler showing errors in a dialog box

    Our use case is that whenever an exception occurs, instead of going to the default text page which shows the exception (which can be custom designed using <error-page> in web.xml), the exception should be shown in an error popup dialog box on the same page. Now as I understand this is very easily achievable by creating your own class extending ExceptionHandlerWrapper (creating it's factory class and referencing it in faces-config.xml) and implementing it's handle() function. The following is the main code snippet (stripped-down):
        @Override
        public void handle() throws FacesException
            FacesContext fc = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
            //Handle unhandled exceptions only if we have a FacesContext & ViewRoot
            if (fc != null && fc.getViewRoot() != null) {
                Iterator<ExceptionQueuedEvent> it = getUnhandledExceptionQueuedEvents().iterator();
                while (it.hasNext()) {
                    ExceptionQueuedEvent event = it.next();
                    ExceptionQueuedEventContext ectx = event.getContext();
                    //Get the concerned exception
                    Throwable t = ectx.getException();
                    //Do not process JVM Errors
                    if (!(t instanceof VirtualMachineError)) {
                        //Log the exception
                        logger.error("Faces Handled Exception", t);
                        //Make ADF create a global error popup dialog
                        FacesMessage fm = new FacesMessage(t.toString());
                        fm.setSeverity(FacesMessage.SEVERITY_ERROR);
                        fc.addMessage(null, fm);
                        //Exception handled. Now remove it
                        it.remove();
            //Call parent handler to do whatever it wants
            getWrapped().handle();
        }This works perfectly when the page is loaded and some action triggers an exception. Where this does fail is when an exception occurs when a manual navigation or re-direct happens (I haven't tested it out for faces navigation though). In this case, where I would have seen a textual representation of the exception stack trace in the normal scenario, the exception gets handled by the exception handler, it gets FacesContext and UIViewRoot instances and add's the corresponding FacesMessage, but the message is never shown (probably because the page never got created since the exception happened in the middle of it's creation) and we get an empty page or the concerned component is not rendered (in the case of composite components). This is very bad for the user experience since the user doesn't know that an error has occurred and only the logs can specify that.
    I would like to know how can I detect the right time to add FacesMessage to FacesContext so to be sure that ADF will render it as a popup in the page. Whenever I detect it's not the right time, I'll let the parent handler handle it so that the user is shown the exception page.

    Hi,
    if this is not a generic ADF Faces questions but ADF and task flow related then read this: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/issue-archive/2013/13-mar/o23adf-1897193.html

  • Strange folders appearing in "Save As" dialog box

    Hello
    *Description of Problem or Question:
    If you open a Web Intelligence report that has been sent to you from your Inbox I have noticed there are "extra" folders I wouldn't expect to see. As an administrator and can see the following extra "strange" folders:
    Categories
    Inboxes
    Internal Storage Folder
    Personal Categories
    Root Folder
    Temporary Storage
    User Folders
    (Please see attached screenshot)
    As a non-admin user I can only see the extra folder "Root Folder".
    This does look odd for a non-admin user as they see the same folder structure twice. E.g:
    Public Folders
    >>Finance Reports
    >>Operations Reports
    >>Root Folder
    >>>>>Finance Reports
    >>>>>Operations Reports
    Any ideas on how to hide these folders from the "save as" dialog box?
    It does only seems to happen if a report is opened from a users Inbox.

    Sorry I wasn't clear! When I try to save a 'PDF' file the "save as" dialog box opens. At the bottom the 'file name'is listed and below that it says, "save as type". You then pick what file type you want, like Adobe Reader for PDF. It used to say Adobe Reader as one of the choices but when I downloaded "Rocket PDF" it only says "Rocket PDF or "all files" as the only choices to save the document, no more Adobe Reader as a choice. I have deleted Rocket PDF and under 'default programs (Start button) I have set the "Pdf. files to open with Adobe Reader. Rocket PDF is still listed or' all files', nothing else! How can I get Adobe Reader as a choice back in the 'save as type' box?
    Thanks for any help.

    A couple things can cause this.
    Right click on the red x to find out the name of the png file.  Search the web server for that png and make sure that the asp worker has access to it.
    The other is a image handler issue.  Search the kbase for Red X NET 2005 and you will find a kbase or two that addresses this.

  • MAC OSX 10.9.5: What is this strange file format in the Open Dialog box?

    Hello all.
    I'd never really noticed this, but I saw a rather unusual file format in the Open dialog box and was wondering why it appeared as it did. It appears as follows from the file/open dialog box:
    To be completely transparent, I'd originally posted this image on my twitter feed to @illustrator. Since then I have been in communication with Scott but the advice has been to reinstall Illustrator. If this had happened on one machine, I'd be inclined to agree that this may do something, but since discovering this unusual format, i've since seen it on six macs running OS 10.9.5 and illustrator version 18.1.0 OR 18.1.1
    Can anyone else confirm that they see the same thing; or if there is a difference, what this format is meant to actually be. I suspect this is a bug but need confirmation by other users.
    Colin

    The error occurs on all machines I have tested. 5 of the machines have the suitcase fusion auto-activation plug-in, but one had no plug-ins at all. All software was installed literally "out of the box" from the creative cloud.
    UPDATE - tested 3 more machines in the office all running 18.1.1 on OSX 10.9.5 and they ALL do the same thing, all installed with the suitcase fusion auto-activation plug-in, but otherwise installed "out of the box" from creative cloud.

  • Disable "nearby printers" from showing in the printers dialog box

    I have been searching for an answer to this question ever since the "nearby printers" option was added to OS 10; Apple, please help. I found the exact same question posted here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11205661
    but that user describing the CUPS solution is not using network printers!
    How do I disable the nearby printers list from displaying at all in the printers drop down list available from a print dialogue box?
    I have over a hundred Macintosh workstations on the same VLAN subnet that spans multiple buildings.
    Each group of machines is assigned a specific printer to print to and we need to only allow the user to know that the installed printer is their only option.
    Thank you for your time and consideration; I appreciate it.

    This issue was finally resolved by focusing on the computers and/or printers announcing the multicast dns advertisement of available printers. When you need to disable printers from appearing in the "Nearby Printers" list, locate the machines advertising services and shut down the announcement; more below.
    If you are not certain which computer or printer is advertising its services, download a bonjour browser app first; I used:
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/13388/bonjour-browser
    With that application launched, you can navigate down the browser list by expanding nodes and see which machines IP addresses are advertising an available printer service.
    Next, the remaining how-to requires you to know which machines IP addresses correspond with the machines.
    For Mac desktops, laptops, and servers that appear in the list, physically go to those devices and navigate the machine's System Preferences > Print & Fax  control panel and for each printer, make sure that the checkbox "Share this printer on the network" is unselected. Note that--if you already have not guessed--this will disable the ability for another machine to navigate and print to a shared printer on that machine. If, by necessity, that machine must share that printer, but you do not want its sharing to be discoverable, you must disable that machines multicast dns broadcast.
    Machines that must share printer queues where you would like to disable the machines multicast dns bonjour 'Printer Available' broadcast advertisement packets to remote machines in order to prevent them from showing up in Nearby Printer listings, you should follow the tutorial here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3789?viewlocale=en_US
    or here:
    http://blog.tsunanet.net/2010/02/how-to-disable-bonjour-on-osx-106-snow.html
    Lastly, nearby printers listings will pick up the 'Printer Available' dns bonjour advertisements of the printers internal network configurations as well. To disable those, most modern network printers have built-in web administration control panels available to you from a web browser. For example, open up safari, type http://the-numeric-IP-address-of-your-printer-here
    and then select the enter key. You should then be able to navigate to the Networking configuration web page available from the printers web administration interface and disable bonjour/multicast print settings. Most HP network printer installations for example, only need port 9100 and IPP sevices enabled for typical Macintosh and Windows network printing services to work...and all other Miscellaneous printer services may usually be disabled. If you are not the network administrator, check with them to confirm that no other special network applications require additional non-typical print services.
    That's it! Once you have disabled or hidden the print services advertisements, the machines on the local network subnet will no longer show Nearby Printers.
    Hopes this helps someone!

  • Options wont show up in Print dialog box

    I have an HP Photosmart C7280. When I choose print and click the little triangle, there is a drop down box with the following headings:
    Layout
    *Colour Matching*
    *Paper Handling*
    *Cover Page*
    Scheduler
    *Two Sided Printing*
    *Paper Type/Quality*
    *Borderless Printing*
    *HP Real-Life Technologies*
    *Printer Driver Information*
    *Supply Levels*
    Summary
    The first five items (and the last two items) all bring up a series of options and settings as you would expect. However, the middle set of five do not bring up anything (just a blank grey area). These are crucial settings and I'm very restricted without them.
    They used to work when I was running Tiger.
    I also have an HP Laser Printer (2300N) and the HP specific settings work for it (different list)
    Mac OSX 10.5.2 and HP C7200 Driver version 9.7.1 (The latest). Problem seems to happen in all applications, today I found it in Mail.app, iPhoto, Preview and Things
    Can anyone offer any advice?

    Ok Very happy to say I got it working.
    The first time I tried a full un-install of the HP Software and re-added the printers and the blank dialogue problem was still there. So to test it I booted my MacBook Pro from an external hard drive running a clean OSX 10.5.2 and installed the "HP Installer PSC7200 series v9.7.1". This time the printer dialogue had all the HP options.
    So with renewed vigour I went back to my internal boot drive and once again un-installed the HP software. The only thing extra I think I did this time was I also removed "InstalledPrinters.plist" from the system Library. Then I installed "HP Installer PSC7200 series v9.7.1" and re-added the HP C7280 Printer
    And its fixed!
    I'm happy to have access to my Photo Paper tray again. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

    After download of viber, i refused push notifications but then activated all notifications as shown on help. Though the phone now shows all notifications on, viber doesn't seem to recognize it. What to do?

    Try testing it when connected to another Wi-Fi network, so you know your network isn't causing a problem.
    Also, Apple has basic troubleshooting tips here -> iOS: Understanding Notifications
    If that doesn't do it, check out Vibers support article -> Push Notifications for iPhone - How to enable
    You can email them notifications test results.

  • No display of error message log in dialog box

    Dear MM Experts,
    During enter incoming invoice (MIRO), when we click simulate after entering all necessary data, all error & warning messages are displayed in a dialog box if there is red traffic light. In our case despite red traffic light error messages are not displayed as shown in below screen shot. Only warning messages are displayed & document canu2019t be posted. Please let me know if anyone has encountered such behavior & knows the solution. We just want to see the error messages in dialog boxes so that necessary data can be entered and document can be posted.
    Additional information: 1. No GR needs to be done, 2. GR based IV is unchecked in PO, 3. No validation is active for the company code,
    Thanks & regards,
    Avinash

    Hi,
    Thanks for your response.
    Our problem is not to post a particular invoice doument, the main problem is that error log is not displayed in MIRO. For example if balance is not zero then this error should be displayed in error log dialog box, which is not happening due to which we are not able to post any invoice document as error is not known to the user. Please let me know if any suggestions.
    Additional information: We have deactivated all validations & BADis. We also tried to compare with other systems where error log is displayed properly however our ABAP consultant could not find any difference. Any Input on how to compare is also welcome.
    Thanks & best regards,
    Avinash

  • Using Message Built-In - Message dialog box appears twice

    Hi all,
    I'm using the message built-in to display messages in forms.
    I use the message command twice to make it appear as a dialog box.(Using it once displays it in status bar)
    Eg.
    Message('Hello World');
    Message('Hello World');
    Sometimes, the dialog box appears twice instead of once.
    Is there a way to solve this ?
    Regards,
    Sam

    With an alert, you can write up to 200 characters in the alert box. With a message, you can write up to 255 characters, and if you want the message to pop up in an alert box, you can write a double message. I use:
    Message('Hello World');
    Message(' ',no_acknowledge);

  • Disable Approver Comment Dialog Box and modify the "Approve It" message

    Hello All. I have a two part question. The first one is: 1.) Can you change the
    Approve it wording to something else like Approve or Reject?
    The second quesiton is: 2.) Can you skip directly to the approval task form instead of having to enter in a comment that never shows in the Approval Dialog Box? I've included screens below of what I'm speaking of. Thanks!

  • Sms send message VI Dialog box

    Whenever I get an error using the SMS Send Message.vi I get a dialog box that disables my program unless I manually answer the prompt.  Can NI (or anybody else) please
    1. Have an option to disable the dialog box
    2. Unpassword protect the VI so I can do it myself
    3. Give me some other option I missing.
    Thank you
    Robert

    Hi Robert,
    Since the Clear Errors VI is not available with a PDA application, you can use a case structure to clear errors instead.  Wire the error out of SMS Send Message to the case selector.  In the Error case place an error cluster constant (right click on error out and Create >> Constant) to pass through the remainder of your program.  For the No Error case, pass the error wire straight through.

  • New Folder link in Ribbon menu, load home page instead of open Folder Name dialog box

    In SharePoint 2013,
    I have created new site collection under "\sites" managed path. Then I have created Sub-Site called "\sites\abc\Mobile" under it.
    Now,
    Site collection - http://sharepointweb/sites/abc and
    Sub-Site - http://sharepointweb/sites/abc/Mobile
    Site Template: Team Site / Publishing Site
    After creation of the above, go to sub-site -> click on "Document" library -> Click on "New Folder" under "File" tab.
    when click on New Folder link, it shows home page in dialog box instead of new folder name popup.
    This is only happening for "Mobile" named sub-site under "/sites" managed path. Please try from your side and let me know.
    May I know what the issue is? Please clarify.

    Hi and welcome to the Blackberry Forums
    1) When ever I have a message notification (be it missed call one or an sms alert),
    it becomes difficult navigating in the "Messages" box : the reason is it opens
    always in the last place where I left it. So I have to press Menu & then scroll down
    to "View Folder" (pressing "v" also helps) & then it says "Select Folder".
    Not, when you have a new message and you go to the message folder you can see the last place where you left, but if you press T (top) you can see the new messages. (always the new messages are in the top and you can't change this)
    2) How to change the HOME PAGE of the Browser.
    Go to the browser, one you are in press menu, options, browser configuration, and you can change the home page on bottom.
    3) to extend the battery life, I read that all applications should be closed using the
    "Close" option in its Menu. To see which all applications are currently running, one
    should check on "Switch Application" - if you see application their, then it is open.
     The problem I am having is some applications (appearing in S/A mode) I was able
    to close (eg games etc), but some are not getting closed eg :messages, browser,
    bb messenger.
    Please read this link to maximize battery and memory
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB14320
    There are five applications can't be closed
    Blackberry Messenger, HOME, phone, browser, and mail
    Thanks
