  • Strange reboots and suprising solution !!!

    HI !!!
I'd like to share my strange experience .
What happend - after replecing mobo everything work greate except dial-up
connection to interent via Zoltrix modem .
I got reboots 1 second after dial-up number selection . It happends in Windows
Millenium and  in Win XP Pro as well !!!
I was very nervous about that , I got good MSI mobo (KT4V) but something goes
wrong . (But even with noname mobo's I never had such problems)
And finally after 48 h I found reason of reboots - my modem has two connetctors
LINE and PHONE . I connected LINE wire to PHONE connector !!!!
I was luckie that nothing was destroyed ) .
My advice - check each connection twice !!!
BTW . I don't know if other mobo's in that situation will reboot also ???

I'd like to add that my problem shows that not only weak PSU can generate
strange reboots ( belive or not I have very old - 230 W PSU in my config) .
Sometimes reboots can rise when there are some shortcuts even in places yot
     didn't expct !!!

itunes recognizes the device and the auto restore iphone comes up
clicking restore and update downloads and extracts software.
software is verified and iphone is prepared to be restored.
the apple logo is seen as well as the little loading circle under the apple logo
    the loading bar is seen....
BUT....the phone reboots here and goes back to recovery mode (connect to itunes)
when trying to load 6.1.2 ios the error is error 9
    i have also gotten error 21, 11, 3194, 1600 and even -1

Please define "factory unlocked". Apple does not use that term at all. The phone is either unlocked (as originally sold by Apple or by an authorized source in a country where all iPhones are sold unlocked) or it was unlocked by the carrier it was originally locked to.  Anything else is a hack.

  • Strange reboot loop

I have an iPod Touch 4th Generation, running iOS 5.1.1. Today, an update for an app (specifically, the Clash of Clans Christmas Update) came out. I updated it and tried to run the app. It crashed immediately every time I opened it. So I decided to try a reboot. Now, I'm stuck in a reboot loop. It shows the apple logo, and right before it finishes the reboot the strange flashes white and then restarts the process. The device is completely unrecognized by iTunes. About once every 20 reboots (it's been hapenning that long...) it gives me the Blue Screen of Death (lol Microsoft terms ). If I hard reboot, it just goes straight into the loop again. I've tried iReb to take it out, but not even that works. Is my phone bricked or is there a way to fix it?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Strange System Update, BIOS hacked?

Hi, last night my laptop rebooted without warning. During the reboot I got the "Lenovo" boot screen with it saying "Updating your system" for about 5 - 10 minutes.  After looking at the logs it seems the reboot was called be a program caled GeekBuddy which I have never used but it seems allows other people to take control of your PC.  Is this "Updating your system" likely to have been someone installing a dodgy BIOS?  If so is there anything I can do to remove any malware that may have been insallled in the BIOS which reinstalling Windows won't remove?

Sorry I missed this topic when it was posted in July. As richk mentioned, having backups is always good if you run into a malware problem that cannot be cleaned and requires a reformat.
The GeekBuddy that I am familiar with is a support system whereby a Comodo expert makes a remote connection to the computer for tech support, virus cleaning, software installation, and printer setup. It has been available in a paid version and a trial version. Comodo is a legitimate, reputable company. I doubt that their techs would remote to your computer without your permission. However, if you have ever used any Comodo products, such as their firewall, or Internet Security, GeekBuddy may have been installed along with that. GeekBuddy can be uninstalled via your Programs and Features.

  • IPhone 4S strange rebooting loop

On Thursday, my iPhone 4S, working fine at college as I listened to my music, then rebooted itself.
It continues in this loop for 3 hours, then took a trip to the apple shop in Glasgow for them to have a look at it.
They fixed it, then an hour or so later it rebooted again, only this time it begins to load up (apple logo in White then black screen) but a blue line will appear through the middle of it, or the other one is where the apple logo will distort in a grey colour then reboot again.
I took it to the apple shop on Friday, explained the problem to one of the "geniuses" and was given the impression he wasn't interested. He didn't look at me, say anything more than 3 words at a time and said to come back next week.
    A. It unprofessional?
Unhappy with the attitude I was given, I went in again about twenty minutes later to a much nicer guy, who sat and spoke with me about the possible problems and to go back on Wednesday.
Believe it could possibly be the hardware of the phone, and if so, is it really right of me to pay for a a problem that I'm not at fault for?

Restore the iOS software using iTunes as a new phone, without using a backup.  If the problem persists, there is a hardware problem.
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
Believe it could possibly be the hardware of the phone, and if so, is it really right of me to pay for a a problem that I'm not at fault for?
Not clear what you mean by "at fault for."  If the phone is still under warranty, it will be covered, if no evidence of abuse.  If the warranty has expired, you'll have to pay for replacement, regardless of cause.
Note that if this phone was EVER jailbroken, what you described is not unusual, won't be fixed by restoring and the warranty is void.

  • Strange rebooting issue

I bought a new motherboard, CPU and RAM (Specs in signature) a few days ago, and I've set everything up.
Now, when I boot the computer everything works fine and it gets past the BIOS etc, but when the OS (Windows XP Pro) loading screen is supposed to show, the computer reboots. The next time it boots it gives me the "Windows did not quit properly last time..." message, but whatever menu I choose, it reboots.
I also decided to try and reinstall Windows XP, and booted from the CD, but it gives me the error "File \i386\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded. The error code is 7. Setup cannot continue. Press any key to quit." when it's just gotten past the "Press F6..."/"Press F2..." messages. I've tried running the install multiple times and with different XP CDs, but it still shows the same error.

    Quote
    Motherboard related?
    - Could an error on the motherboard cause this?
    - Could a jumper be misplaced, or needed to be added/removed/moved?
    - Could a connector be misplaced?
    Seems very unlikely to me.
    Quote
    RAM related?
    - Could the RAM be broken or incompatible, despite that MemTest says it's ok?
Don't think so. However you can let memtest run more passes. First I had twinmos mem. Sometimes memtest failed after the second pass and other times it failed after the 15th pass. With my new Kingston mem I was only satisfied after the 30th pass.
    Quote
    CPU related?
    - Could the CPU be broken somehow to cause this, or would the computer not run at all?
Don't think its your CPU either.
    Quote
I doubt it is a harddrive issue since the Windows Setup should not stop where it does. The description for the error I got when running the setup indicates that the RAM is incorrectly setup or broken.
Have you tried connecting your sata drive on the other controller?
I think you have let memtest run over a night just to be sure your mem is ok.
BTW, I have no doubt that everyone, who is trying to help you, is reading this topic from the beginning. I for one was thinking too that you didn't hit F6 when you quoted the messages you got.

  • Strange reboot problem

All of a sudden today, when I attempt to restart or reboot my computer, it doesn't restart. I upgraded to the 7.1 bios yesterday. When I reboot, I can see the hard drive light flicker a long time. After a long time, I turn the power off, and restart. I once again see the hard drive light flicker, then the power automatically goes off, and comes back on. I can then finally see the initial boot screen with CPU and memory, it goes down a little, then gives me a
    "O/C setting failed, resetting".
Now I don't overclock at all yet. I have 800 mhz memory, and i have the multiplier set to 1.5. Is there some sort of auto overclocking that I can turn off?

Quote from: NovJoe on 01-October-06, 11:12:50
Clear CMOS and set your DDR Voltage to 1.8 ~ 1.9v, set your RAMs Latencies and Speed to Auto and SPD.
Doesn't this default 800mhz memory back to 667? I am having the same problem now. i turn on the power switch and dont get a screen, I hit the reboot and get it boots- most of the time. If not, try 3-5 more times and it tells me it is defaulting because of failed o/c. I haven't done any o/c, just manually set timings on my memory to get it to read ddr2 800 correctly.

It is probably a Windows problem. If you turn off automatic reboot there is a good(?) chance you will get a blue-screen with some more or less informative numbers. Google that.
Here is a FAQ for your situation: http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=faq2show&faq_no=1672

  • MBP Hangs on Reboot

After installing the latest update of Safari I notice something odd after I rebooted but I guess my machine rebooted ok. Now it appears to have shat the bed and I can only reboot OK 1 in 20 times.
Here is what happens: On a reboot, black screen, annoying gong and gray screen with LARGE apple logo and spinning wheel - all seems ok. It appears that the computer is not in the usual hi res graphics mode as the apple logo is bigger / lower res that normal. After about 30s or so computer's screen flickers orange, white and the machine appear to be locked up. Spinning wheel is no longer spinning and there is a line of blocky green character on the screen above the apple logo - I still see the gray screen with the stopped spinning wheel. Funny thing is that now I'm finally back on my machine after trying to reboot it for 20 mins or so.
I've tried the usual stuff, P Ram reset, permissions etc. Hope it's not my Nvidia 8600 GT as I know some were bad but I've had no other problems other than this strange rebooting issue.
    Your suggestions peeps?

Have you tried a safe boot? Hold down shift key on boot. At login screen click restart. Let reboot continue normally.
You might check into the Safari area where many seem to be having issues with this update (I have not yet installed it, based on the reports I see there).
Some 3rd party apps and plugins such as PithHelmet raise heck with Safari. And it does not seem to always work correctly with the anti-phishing doodad turned on.
Here's the link to the Safari forum:

    I wish you well.

  • MSI X48C Platinum a motherboard with many issues

    MSI X48C Platinum Ver 3.0 BIOS 7.2
I bought this motherboard for 15 days and I found many serious problems. I think than this motherboard is completely manufactured defective.
I had to return it to RMA of MSI, on the advice of technical service of MSI.
Three issues detected in this days of testing this motherboard:
    - Half speed issue in CPU Clock, FSB and Memory. All these buses are working at half speed with FSB 1333 processors. This bug is random and not detected by the BIOS.
    - Memory problems. I have tried with 6 different new modules of Kingston Memory compatible with this motherboard (included in the list of compatible memories). Many of these modules were problems in memtest86 and showed blue screen in Windows Vista and strange reboots in XP, but the modules were not damaged.
    - SATA RAID + Optical SATA + Optical IDE issue. When I connect an optical SATA RW-DVD and an optical IDE R-DVD and RAID is enabled, the operating system does not boot. The only solution is "Disable IDE" or remove SATA optical.
There are too many errors for a motherboard that has been time for sale and that has left three BIOS. Is an expensive moltherboard with a high-performance chipset.
I do not understand as MSI has put up for sale this product without simple tests. I lost a lot of my time and money.
What X48C sent to those who made the reviews of this motherboard?

Do you have a question regarding problems?
If no, please go somewhere else to vent your anger.
As stated, there are NO MSI employees here and this is a forum about problem solving, not for ranting and flaming
If you want help regarding issues, no problem, go ahead and ask questions.
Got a bad feelin towards MSI, though, but we cant help it either.
What do you want us to do  ??? ?
Anyway I hope you'll get a better board and wish you all the best, but dont start about bad service and all that, we dont work for MSI.

  • Nokia 6111-2 The return of the **bleep**py Phone

Ok, i bought this phone 9 months ago.. Unfortunately this is the second one because the first one got broken (strange reboots-power offs, camera light always on, dead battery etc.) in august.
I got back a brand new phone from Nokia Customer Care (at least they're good with this ), another 6111 which didn't have such problems described before for the first one.....BUT!
But the fact is that now i discovery that IF i receive a SMS from my mobile operator (vodafone italy) saying that someone called me when i was not available OR notifying me that someone is now available the phone DOES NOT receive that SMS and instead start to REBOOT every time tries to receive that sms.
I must put my sim card in another phone, receive that message and then i can use the 6111 properly...until disgracely i receive another message...
I have the LATEST firmware, the phone has 2 months..tell me what should i do Nokia!!!

hmm... unless the guy who replaces your mobile came from hell, yeah what the hell is that all about? Weirdly, huh!?!
...but since that guy replaces your mobile, it means that he is not from hell… and if he didn’t came from hell, he has only 2 places left – the “earth” and the “heaven”… but “heaven’ would not be possible this time because according to Holy Book, there is no mobile in “heaven”…. And therefore, this guy must be from earth… ahh!! What the heck…
...anyway, your problem sound like a virus… since by definitions a software viruses are small software programs that are designed to spread from system to another and to interfere with system operation. A virus might corrupt or delete data on your system, use other programs to spread itself to other system, or even erase everything on your system or simply make command like rebooting your system from time to time…Viruses can be disguised as attachments such as simple text message…
..if this is the case, the only option is to clean it with anti-virus.. and protect your mobile in future…

  • Mail forces a restart of the system when opens a password-pdf

since a week ago, when I received a password-pdf attachment (bank receipt) and I enter the password for MAIL to view the pdf embedded, the system reboots. The initial screen appears and I have to re-enter the user password. It is a strange reboot because some of the programs are open and others are closed. Never before had happened and I received bank documents with password daily since years. Thanks in advance.

  • Most common tweaks for n900 in 1 application - mae...

i had most of these already done in my device, but added the hildon one.
it works well, just follow the directions to install HERE
    everything is fully reversable.
i pulled this info specs below from a great site  www.my-maemo.com
    enjoy!
MaeModder is an application which allows you to carry out the most important mods available in Maemo in one place, from within one application and display.
This application provides the following tweaks:
Swappiness: famous value that changes the tendency to use swap like the Swappolube package... the less it is, more the real RAM will be used. The value of 30 is adviced.
    Page cluster: see http://www.linuxinsight.com/proc_sys_vm_page_cluster.html
Camera Mod: It is said to provide benefits to the photo quality. It changes some values of the file /etc/gdigicam/gdigicam-camerabin.conf, activating the ipp filter and increasing the jpeg quality from 95 to 100.
Change kernel profile: as the name suggests, it verifies if the power kernel is installed (the test is made using the package of the kernel settings) and allows you to load the default profiles and set one of them as default one after the reboot.
Frequency manager: changes the limits (both min and max) of the kernel profile in use. The selection menu shows the frequencies currently used.
MAG Hildon-desktop: installs the latest version of hildon-desktop released by MohammadAG. It improves the kinetic scrolling, many shortcuts and the possibility to have 9 desktops.
Portrait status-bar: installs the latest version of the modified status bar released by MAG. Only the portrait mode works.
Custom transitions: allows you to install the custom transitions.ini files.
Multidesktop: allows you to set the number of the desktops and their background.
Change LED Colors: allows you to modify LED patterns.
Wifi-Switcher popup: the popup of the program doesn't need the tap to disappear anymore. After several seconds it disappears automatically.
Wifi Autostart off: this mod disables the autoloading of the WiFi modules on Maemo sturtup, just like WiFi Switcher does (but the WiFi-switcher small icon won't appear at the startup even if it is "activated"). Don't install this mod if you don't have Wifi-Switcher (or Advanced Interface Switcher) installed or you won't be able to connect to the network anymore.
Update notifications: this mod disables the update notifications - useful if you only use Faster Application Manager.
MyDocs executable: changes the mounting options of MyDocs, allowing you to execute every program without changing the permissions with chmod. Useful to install PreEnv games in MyDocs.
Hildon acceleration: this mod modifies the /etc/powervr.d/hildon-desktop.ini file, setting the value to 1 and activating the hardware acceleration. In some devices this mod can cause instability, so if you note some strange reboots disable this mod.
All the tweaks are fully reversible with the Restore option.

    hmm. thats a good one.
my understanding is the the appmanaga auto update only makes it so that it will not do it "automatically" which slows our devcies down when it is doing it in the background and therefore will not show the orange ! square when it is done either. not that it would not allow you to manually do so.
other then angry birds, i have not seen any other updates coming from OVI. thier apps, to the best of my knowledge, do not get updates. this was explained to me when i was using my e90 and asked the developer of a couple applications that i paid 2x the amount they were being sold on OVI for and was told those on OVI do not get updates, they are "as-is"
i understand that this may not be the case for all developers, but two were in concurance.

  • Yosemite upgrade issue - iMac freeze and cannot boot again

    Dear all,
Two days ago I updated my iMac 27" (mid 2011) from OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion to 10.10 Yosemite.
Clean installation was done via USB, 3 user created one admin and 2 standard users (all with the option increase contrast option on). The following software installed:
    Adobe Lightroom 5.7
    Datacolor Spyder4Elite 4.5.8 (monitor calibration)
    Microsoft Office 2011
    PlayOnMac 4.2.5
    iMovie 2.1.1
    VLC 2.1.5
    Google Chrome
After one day I had the first strange reboot, but than it seemed working fine.
Today while using it, something strange happened: the image on the screen "shifted" 5cm to the left, meaning that the 5cm on the left of the screen were moved to the right and than everything freezed. With a power off I rebooted.
Thinking the issue was related to the screen I uninstalled and removed Spyder4Elite.
I rebooted and it was working fine.
After a while, the screen went almost completely blank, I could see the very top first 3/4 pixels and recognize the top bar. Nothing. After a while I forced a reboot.
I tried to reboot, but the same appears. I turned it off for a bit.
Turinig it on again the following happened:
    Boot screen
    White screen flickering black
    Black screen
    White screen
    Reboot
White screen stating the the computer restarted after an error
Boot screen with pink vertical lines (see image below)
    White screen
    Black screen
    Reboot
    Start again at #7
    Image for #7:
    Image for #8:
I then turned everything off and disconnected the plug as well. After turning on again now everything starts directly at point #7 into an infinite loop.
I tried to start and hold "D" key for the diagnostic tools. Nothing happens boot and whitescreen.
If I hold the option key I can select the boot options, choosing Recovery 10.10.1, white screen appears and than reboot again.
    Does anyone know what happened?
Does anyone else had a similar issue?
Is there a way to run diagnostic tool to check hardware failures?
Is there a way to browse the HD content to save a file?
    Any other suggestions or ideas?
The only thing I have, is the USB key with Yosemite on it.
Fortunately on the external HD I still have the "Install OS X Mountain Lion.app": is there a way to create a bootable USB key of Mountain Lion using windows?
Thank you for your kind support,
    blp

Before deciding that you can't replace the drive yourself, visit the following site and find the step by step instructions for replacing the drive yourself:
    http://www.ifixit.com/
If you see the instructions and feel that you can replace the drive yourself, you will save money that way. I'm not that familiar with modern iMacs, but I know it was very easy to replace the drive in my old iMac. It may not be as hard to do as you think. If you want extra help, you can post questions on the iMac forum.
If you still don't feel like it is something you can do yourself, try looking for an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) in your area and see what it might cost to have the AASP do the replacement. Often an AASP can do a repair for less money than Apple, and they will usually be willing to install a drive that you have obtained elsewhere for a reasonable price. From what I have read on these forums, many people have used AASP's to install bigger and faster drives on their machines.
Definitely contact Western Digital about your drive. Usually WD drives come with a 3 year warranty, and if the drive fails before then, WD will replace the drive. KT has mentioned that the drive apparently is not under warranty, but might qualify for some sort of an upgrade. Before shopping elsewhere, check to see if this upgrade might entitle you to a very good deal on a replacement drive or something of that nature.
    Good luck!
