Stream.play reset problem

Sometime FMS goes crazy when playing 2 flv, i see a mix of
both video, in the very same stream, they are in conflict.
How this became possible ?
Does it mean the previous one did not unbuffer or unload ?
and both are playing under the same netstream ?

You could always just close the FileReader and create a new one, but why do it in two passes? Why not just append the data to a Vector or ListArray in a single pass and get the array out of the Vector/ArrayList afterwards?

Server-Side stream play problem

Hello,
I have a problem, which I am trying to solve for many nights already without any success.
Everytime I try to switch or change a server-side stream, it starts lagging after 2 seconds of playing and sound disappears.
Here are scenarios that result in that terrible lag:
1. I create server-side playlist with stream.play() with reset=false; when it is time to play the next movie in the playlist, it starts lagging after 2 seconds.
2. The same problems appears when I just switch streams. I installed FMF Feature Explorer and tried to launch SwitchStreams sample application: the same problem - server stream starts lagging after I switch streams with stream.play().
I tried on different servers (local and remote), with different players (debug player of FMS Admin Console, Standard Flash videoplayer component, OSMF player, Flex video player). I also tried all possible flv, f4v and mp4 file compression options for video files - still the same problem.
I have also tried literally thousands of Application.xml settings: changing buffer, buffer ration etc.
Is there any tip where I should search for a solution?

Thank you for your reply.
But in my case the client is subscribed to a stream on the FMS. And that stream is switching video files and handling the playlist. So, I don't see any possibility to listen to onPlayStatus on a client-side, as my client is only playing live stream and has no clue what is happening on the server side.
Or I am wrong?

Stream.play(live_from_FMLE, -1, 4500, true) got no NetStream.Play.Start

I am stuck on one random issue that I really need your help.
I got a bunch of live stream from FMLE, say: "FMLE_channel1", "FMLE_channel2", "FMLE_channel3". And then on the server side, I created several corresponding republished stream called "channel1", "channel2", "channel3".
On periodical basis, we call Stream.get("channel1").play("FMLE_channel1", -1, 10, true) every 10 seconds. Similar things were done on the second channel & third channel.
Soon after the above Stream.get("channel1").play() call, I should get the following events in sequence:
info :NetStream.Unpublish.Success
info :NetStream.Publish.Start
info :NetStream.Play.Reset
info :NetStream.Play.Start
In the above case all are happy. Clients can view channel1, channel2, channel3 well.
But then after a while, one of the three channels, in most case it would be channel1, will not be viewable. With the server trace info, I found that after the Stream.get("channel1").play() call, only the following two events exists:
info :NetStream.Unpublish.Success
info :NetStream.Publish.Start
i.e. I was missing the play.reset and play.start event.
I further checked and confirmed that the FMLE was publishing all three channels fine to the server. I was able to view the "FMLE_channel1" from flash clients, but not the republished "channel1".
Can anyone help to solve the problem please? the version is FMS 3.5.0. Thanks.

2. I will upgrade to 3.5.4 and have a try. Unfortunately I am out of town now and could not do it in the new few days.
3. When you asked about repeatedly calling of Stream.get(), are you implying some kind of memory leaks? Or do you have other implications in your mind? We are handling an array of broadcasting channels. Of course, we could've saved the handles in an array, but we did it the way as it is now for the sake of simplicity.
4. Another clue/observation: say for a F4V clip of 44 seconds (e.g. name it as example.f4v). If I call Stream.get("channel1").play("mp4:sample.f4v", -1, 45, true) at one point, and after 45 seconds, if I do another call of Stream.get("channel1").play("mp4:sample.f4v", -1, 45, true), "channel1" will show no video after the second call. Please note in this example, the video length is actually 44 seconds, but I treat it as if it is 45 seconds.

Access Log- Stream Play & Stream Stop

Hello, I am new to Flash. I have recently installed FMIS 3.5.3. In checking the access logs I find data in both logs that display the same stream stop and stream play time . I'm not sure why the time is the same (00:19:27 example below). Videos play fine when testing from work (T3 connection). However, occasionally a very slight hesitation when playing video from home (I have cable connection).

I am using the VOD service to stream videos. I found some code on the adobe site (http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/articles/video_playlist.html) to work with playlist. I also use this code for launching individual movies (no playlist displayed). This playlist application uses a custom-made player.
I observed a video play without any problems (no hesitation) and then checked the access log:

RE: freezing and resetting problems when syncing a large music library

Hi there,
I got a new ipod classic 160gb for christmas. I updated the firmware to 1.0.3 and synced it for the first time. When I tried to play any music it locked up and went into a loop of resetting itself which I could only break by forcing the ipod into disk mode.
I restored the ipod and tried again syncing the music in chunks. This worked until the ipod was about 50% full then it started to freeze and reset again. I took this ipod back to the store but the new one had the exact same problem!
Through a lot of trial and error I have managed to get the ipod working with only part of my library synced. By syncing music a few albums at a time I have managed to get about 86gb (of 120gb) onto it, but surely this is not how it is supposed to be! I have a dual boot system and have the same problems using windows XP or vista.
I know that I'm not the only person experiencing resetting problems with the ipod classic. Are the users who are experiencing these endless resetting problems with the ipod classic those who have large music libraries (i.e over 80gb)? Can the ipod classic simply not handle the large volumes of music it was designed to hold?
The only features I was looking forward to in the new ipod were a) larger capacity hard drive and b) the ability to organise playlists into folders on the ipod for easier browsing. As it stands I cannot sync my full library and navigating through my playlists is so slow it is hardly worth bothering. I never had a minutes trouble with my 5th gen.
Have I been unlucky and the ipod classics I have recieved have been duds? In which case should I arrange another replacement? Or is this typical of the ipod classic user experience when the user has a large music library and many playlists? Should I await a firmware update that might remedy my problems?
Lastly am I doing something wrong? Any help or workarounds would be gratefully appreciated.

best thing to do is use Playlist and Smart Playliss to fill your iPod. Just so you know, since your post seemed to indicate you thought the playlists have to be tailored to what is already on the iPod, when you sync to playlists, any songs needed for those playlists are automatically moved onto the iPod. And any songs NOT in the playlists get removed.

Solution: Play count problem

As many others I had the play count problem with my iPod Shuffle which suddenly stopped working.
The solution sounds boring but seems to work: the iPod seems to be pretty inflexible, but you have to follow a precise routine to keep it working after you have reset it:
1) click 'eject' before tacking the iPod of the charger
2) switch on
3) start
4) listen
5) stop
6) switch off
7) insert in charger in 'switched off' mode
Since I don't shortcut any of these steps, I don't have the count problem anymore.

Unfortunately, this did not work for me. I tried chatting with Apple support about the issue and they suggested I call support. They had me re-install iTunes, but that did not correct the problem. Since my wife's Shuffle was updating the Play Count and Last Played correctly on her computer, I thought I would try on her computer. However, she has a older version of iTunes and it would not sync with my Shuffle. I then connected my Shuffle to my Son's laptop since he has the latest version of iTunes. iTunes required me to Erase and Sync on his computer. I did this, loaded up a few short songs, played them, and then sync'd back to his computer. It worked! I then sync'd my Shuffle with my computer (Erase and Sync, etc.) and it worked there as well!
I'm not sure what part of that process actually corrected the problem, but thought I would post this in case it helps someone else.

Play back problems since the upgrade to iOS

Since the latest iOS upgrade to my 64 GB iPod touch, I've been having play back problems.
Random songs will stop playing at random points....sometimes it just does quiet while the time clicks by.....other times it starts playing the next song, but still showing the current song display and song time line....it's all very strange. Has anyone else been having similiar issues?

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

Automatic reset problem (Palm Centro)

Recently, my phone begins to have a new problem.
When I use the phone, it automatically resets if I touch the screen during the conversation.
It disrupt my conversation.
I had done hard reset; but, the problem came up again.
What can I do?

Did the problem immediately return when you finished the Hard Reset, or after doing a HotSync? If the latter, then the problem is software-related and saved on your computer.
Did the phone get damaged in any way? Get wet?
Here's my normal help file for clearing out reset problems:
As with most problems that occur on a Palm phone or PDA, it is either software or hardware related and we have to determine which one.
Best method is to first make a complete backup of your unit to your SD card using the free "NVBackup" (available from http://www.freewarepalm.com) After the backup is complete, Hard Reset the unit, then test to see if full functionality returns.
Perform a Hard Reset as described in this Palm KB article: http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/45050_en.html
DO NOT HOTSYNC YET! Test the unit before reinstalling any software. If the unit works correctly, your problem is being caused by a "drug interaction" of software - maybe one rogue program, or a combination of several. You'll have to reinstall the third-party programs one or a few at a time to find the problem one. To avoid re-installing a software issue, rename your /Backup directory in your Palm folder (on a PC it's found here: C/Program Files/Palm(One)/"your HotSync ID name truncated"/Backup) to something like "/BackupOLD". Now perform the HotSync, choose your HotSync name you've been using, and all your PIM data will return, but not the third-party programs. Test for functionality again. If all is good, start installing the old programs from your /BackupOLD directory one (or a few if brave) at a time.
If the unit does not work after a Hard Reset is performed correctly, then it may be Hardware-related. (If it's a connection problem via either BlueTooth or Wifi, be sure nothing has changed on the unit you're trying to connect to!)

I'm not sure I would ever play a rented movie by mirroring from an iPad as mirroring is lossy and reduces quality.
It may actually not work via mirroring.

Stop Threaded stream reader reset

I have been trying to create a threaded search for looking through a comma delimited text file for a certain string section. The search uses a custom input stream reader which is currently declared in the thread class. The search works however I want to be able to find the next search result from the file. Obviously if I run the thread again the stream is reset to the start so my question is how do I declare the stream so it carries on from the previous position. Im thinking I have to declare it in a seperate class or something but am unsure, thanks for the help in advance.

I am not quite sure why you mention that it is a threaded search. I just cannot imagine how and why you would go about and search through an InputStream with multiple threads, so I assume you are just plain searching in an InputStream and this just happens in a separate thread from main.
Why is it that your custom InputStreamReader is reset when the thread is started? You seem to have full control, so just don't restart it. Make sure that the object is not just a field in the thread object that most likely is dismissed when the run() method terminates. Or just keep the thread object in a variable and reuse it instead of creating a new one when you want to restart the thread.

K8NGM2-FID warm reboot/reset problems

The Problem:
When the system runs for more than 1-2 minutes and I do a restart under Windows OR hit the reset button it hangs with the HDD light on steady and no video output.
If I try a warm restart or reset button push immediately (10-30 seconds) after windows comes up the system restarts OK.
When the system is 'hung' repeated hits (short or 5-10 seconds) on the Reset button have no effect besides causing the DVD lights to blink (i.e., they seem to be getting a reset signal) but HDD light is still steady.
If I power the system down and restart it reboots OK - this means power down from the 'hung' state OR power down from Windows via 'Start' --> 'Turn off computer' or momentary push of power switch.
Looking at the Windows system log I see that warm boots done before many system processes load are successful, those afterwards are not. I have tried disabling these processes (i.e., App layer gateway, SSDP discovery, Norton protected storage) w/o any change in behavior.
This looks like a hardware problem to me, but I want to be sure it's one before I R&R the mobo w/ a spare.
Has anybody else seen this problem?

Update:
It was the mobo - R&R w/new one: warm boot/reset problem gone. Plugged in drives w/o doing any software reinstall and unit came right up (and down and up and down....).
This is the second K8NGM2-FID that has gone south on me since March.
Both have been Ver 2.0 builds; the other one has a problem with onboard video but continues to function with an add-in video card (yah, it's better video too, but that's not the point). The warm boot problem described in the original post isn't a show stopper, either, but I can't use these boards in a system for sale (unless I sell it to my brother-in-law).
I have built eight systems since March using the K8NGM2-FID. Six were for customers and are still under my personal six month no-questions-asked warranty (the extended 12 month lots-of-questions-asked starts after six months). I have had to eat two at this point and am not too happy with the board. Since MSI no longer makes this board I am having to use another vendor's mATX-6150 unit, perhaps for the better, I don't know.
IMHO MSI is the best board maker in the consumer/office sector. I hope they can stay that way.

DVD SP2.0 - subtitle stream gets reset when track played

Hello,
I have this weird problem ion DVDSP2.0 and i haven't found a solution yet.
I have a dvd with subtitles in 5 different languages. I've made a menu where you can choose the subtitle language, now the weird thing is that when the movie track is played it changes the subtitle stream to the first subtitle stream. But this only happens, when the playhead encounters the chapter 1 marker (in other words if the play of the track is "resumed" this doesn't happen)
So it seems like the chapter 1 marker resets the subtitle stream or something.
There's no pre-script attached to the track.
I really can't figure out what's going on...
Or is this normal behaviour? How can I solve this?

I'm having another problem with this job now I've received the check discs. Basically, I'll run through the dic requirements:
-Audio streams 1 and 2 (English 2 and 5.1) require subtitle stream 2 (for Chinese dialogue translation)
-Audio streams 3 and 4 (French 2 and 5.1) require subtitle stream 1 (for French and Chinese dialogue translation - locked ON)
I have First Play set to Audio Stream 1 and Subtitle Stream 2. I also have a first play script set the same (as an 'Immediate Value').
These settings are are also selectable via the Audio Set-Up menu. However if you put the disc in and INSTEAD of going to the Play or Set-Up menu you go to the Chapters menu and select a chapter, the player is by default using Stream 1 (English) with Subtitle Stream 1 (full English).
In our license agreement, the French audio MUST have English subtitle locked ON at all times.
I have set the User Operations up so thatr these cannot be changed via the remote (Ausio and subtitle streams).
Can anybody assist with this? It's driving me mad!

Video Podcasts streaming window size problem since upgrade to 9.0.3

Since the upgrade to 9.0.3 on Windows Vista SP2 when I go to the iTunes store and play a video podcast (Tekzilla, ABC news, etc.), a small window opens up without any controls to stop/start, show time played, expand window, etc. It seems the play must be initiated from a small button to the right of the specific podcast, not the play button on the upper left as before.
I have not found a way to expand the small window to full screen as worked before.
I have played with the options on the iTunes and tried Cntl + F, 1, 2, etc. Set the view option to full screen, etc. In short, every option that I can think of.
I have tried large quicktime and HD podcasts with the same result.
If I download the podcast, as opposed to steaming the podcast; and then highlight and hit the upper left play button, the podcast plays full screen and everything works as before (previously streaming and download playing worked the same).
I have a 6 MB DSL connection which works fine for Hulu, etc. and previously worked fine for full screen video podcast playback in iTunes. I am using a core 2 T5500 CPU with Vista SP2. This machine is a couple years old but is still relatively quick for non-gaming use.
Has iTunes changed? Is there a setting that I need to reset?

Likewise. I started having the problem before 9.03. The upgrade helped for a couple of days, then it started happening again. And then I upgraded to 9.1, and not only do I have to log in and agree to the settings page EVERY SINGLE TIME I LOG IN but the "remember password" box is now completely missing.
Any time I have iPhone apps to update, I have to click on "download all", which then pops up the login box. I enter my password, click on OK to agree that my settings are OK, then I have to click on "download all a second time.
This is getting very annoying.

Audio stream gets reset when it shouldn't

I've got 1 asset with 4 audio streams and 5 subtitle streams and according to the language choice made on the first page of the menu, the correct audio streams and subtitle streams get set. There are 10 different documentary DVDs, of these 5 are doing what they should and 5 not - the fifth language choice, Swahili, somehow resets to the first audio stream (english or original language) even though the correct subtitle stream still comes up. This when simulating and when burning the disc. When we check the info panel while simulating to see what values get passed thru the specific GPRMs, the correct values are there but as soon as one clicks on the Play button, you can see the value being incorrectly set back to the "english" audio stream. We've double checked all our settings, compared to the projects that work correctly, checked over and over to see why this could happen and there is no difference between the ones that work and the ones that don't...
Any ideas on why this might be so?

No, that was not it but I did manage to resolve the problem after literally checking every single line in every script and physically what is where. And we found that DSP does not like it if there are gaps between audio tracks. For example, one needs to stack audio tracks up beneath each other, as soon as there is one track on track 1 and then one on track 3, the audio will reset back to track 1 when clicking on a button that is set to track 3. Because we have so many languages but not all films had all the audio tracks, we wanted to keep a basic structure all the way thru so our scripts would be easy to change, therefore sometimes having empty tracks between others, but clearly this does not work.
