Streaming multiple avi files?

I think the problem is I don't know how to ask my question to a search engine, so i have tried searching for the answer already.
I'm just trying to create a proof of concept and have freshly installed Dev Server 4.5.
Here is what I need to accomplish:
     1)     A user will access a URL like http://tempvideoserver.org/?ip=75.75.76.76&user=Admin&pass=Password1
     2)     This will start a backend process (vb.net through a much older COM object) that will start creating a series of AVI files of "live" video each being 15 seconds in length and creating an additional file every 15 seconds. All files will be in a dynamically created folder for that individual user.
     3)     FMS will take the sequential AVI files as they are dynamically created and create a stream capable of being watched on an Apple device via HLS (or anything really as long as an Apple device can view it).
     4)     If FMS says that the user has stopped streaming, then stop the backend process for that user.
That is it in a nutshell. If there are simliar posts that you can point me towards or a good starting point, I'll take any info you have. Or if what I need isn't possible, that is good info too. I'm just starting, so I don't know what puzzle pieces I have access to to build this thing.
Thanks in advance!
David Crawford

First, FMS will not stream AVI files. See the documentation for supported file formats and codecs (generally, you'll want H.264/aac mp4's or vp6/mp3 flv's).
As for setting up a stream as you suggested, there will be a few pieces to this (all of which you'll do in server side actionscript)
1. You'll use a series of File objects to read the contents of the directory (which must be local to FMS or on a mapped network drive), and inspect the properties of each file directory
2. You'll use the Stream class to set up a server side stream for each client, and you'll play your files over that server side stream as a playlist (your client application will subscribe to that stream, so you'll need to work out a method of setting up the stream name accordingly)
3. You'll devise a method of keeping track of the files (or the LMD of the last played file) for each stream. Could be done with properties on the client object, or could be a class that handles management of all of the clients.
4. You'll set up an interval to continually repeat the process of reading the directory to look for new files.
Obviously, this is a simplified description. There will be additional tasks involved in setting up the FMS application to handle user-specific tasks (i.e how will you determine which folder is associated with the client... could be via a webservice call from FMS to your backend app, or could be by virtue of application instance names)

  • Split a single avi into multiple avi files?

Hi there, totally new to PS Elements Premier 10.
I have some VHS video tapes that I converted to AVI format.  I'd like to separate the videos into segments (ie; separate Christmas 1982 from Easter 1983) - and store them in multiple AVI files.  I tried to do this in MS movie maker, but that was taking forever.  I bought Premier Elements because I figured it should be easier; and it probably is, but I'm noob...
I have split the video into the scenes I want.  I have added markers... but I am having trouble splitting the actual video into chunks of clips - ie; one big avi file would become 10 smaller avi files.  I am trying to watch these on a boxee box, so I do want the to be separate files - I dont want to do a "web dvd" output.
    I have tried this:
    I dont see export functions.
I go to "SHARE" but it only lets me export to a single output.
How can I do this?  It's for Christmas presents, so it's a little urgent - any help you can give me would be soooooo appreciated.
    thanks!

Thanks everyone.  I ended up figuring it out - whether or not I did it the best / easiest / fastest way is up for debate
I split the video into clips.
Separated the clips into different timelines.
"left aligned" all the clips in their respective timelines so they all start at 0:00 (just for simplification)
Disable all clips / timelines (right click, enable = false)
Enable the individual clip/timeline that I want to save
Set up the work area bar so that it starts at 0:00 and ends at the end of the specific clip I enabled.  With the "snap top" functionality turned on, this is pretty easy.
Go to "SHARE" and configure my outputs
Make sure that "Share Work Area Bar Only" is checked on the "Share" tab before committing
It creates an avi of only the enabled clip, for the timeline I created.
    Important:
Make sure you set the work area bar properly, or you'll have a 10 minute clip followed by 2 hours of blackness.... did that a few times ha.
Make sure you click the "Share Work Area Bar Only" on the share tab - or the same will happen.
Thanks for the replies everyone - let me know if there is a better way to acheive this in PE10.
    Thanks!

  • 10.6.8: audio goes out of sync in Netflix streaming and *.avi files

    Hello,
This began happening a couple of weeks ago and it's maddening!  There haven't been any software changes or anything recently.
At first I thought it was just a Netflix problem, or perhaps an internet connection problem.  Audio will at some point during play, 'skip', and play the same audio over again (i.e., "Hello, Ja-Hello, Jack!"), and from that point on, the audio is lagged behind the video just a bit.
Then I began watching some *.avi files on my HDD today, and the same thing is happening with them, too!  If I reload the browser or close and reopen the *.avi file, the audio will start out in sync again, but at some random point during playback, it will happen again.
Hope someone knows what's going on!  Thanks!
    Mid-2010 Macbook Pro 10.6.8

For anyone who's interested, I found a solution to this problem. Once imported into Encore, the leader in on the video and audio files cannot be trimmed at all. (I had been trimming the beginning of the video and matching audio file to eliminate the 8 seconds of dead space at the start of the clips.) Although the trim took effect immediately in the Encore timeline and I could also watch it in preview in sync, exporting was another story. The audio track seems to retain the trim when exporting but the video track does not, hence the 6-7 second delay between audio and video.
I reimported the files to my project and left in the 8 seconds of dead space at the start and voila! The video and audio match up when exported.
Ideally the trim tool would just work as its supposed to through export and all, but at least I found a solution I can work with.
(As a note, the trim works just fine in export on Encore CS5. I only had this problem with Encore CS6.)

Thank's, GuentherMueller, I think ist is a  good idea to carry on in English. Hopefully I'm not the only CVI user who wants to create AVI-Files to archive the images from a IMAQdx driven camera. Perhaps and I can get some advice from others already concerned with my question. I also used "imaqGetFilterNames()" to get the list of available compression filters on my PC. In fact I've got two different development machines, and I put a screenshot of the one with the newest VisionDevelopmentModul Version 2012SP1, a windows7prof64Bit system, as an attachment to this reply to show the installed NI software components and the compression filters found on it by my CVI-Program. When I start my program on an older XP-System still used to compile older CVI2010SP1 applications, I get some different compression filters displayed, how and when they were installed on my PC... I don't know. Which compression filters are really delivered with Vision Development Module 2012 SP1? How can I install and use different ones like xvid or x264?
    Thanks for your help!

  • How to stream multiple audio files over a IP network in one session

    Hi everybody,
i am going to build an internet radio application as my next project. I thought of taking JMF and the RTP streaming for this purpose. But the problem i faced during the development was it plays only one audio stream in a session. The thing is i want to send more than one audio stream in a given RTP session and using a single port. What my radio does is simply play mp3 music all day long. How can i do this and what other tools that i should take. please reply ASAP. thank u in advance,
    Thusira..

You'll need to implement what I call a "jukebox" datasource... IE, the DataSource changes what file it's outputting, but the Processor and RTP DataSink associated with it are unaware of the change... so they keep right on transmitting like nothing happened, but the actual file being outputted has changed...
    http://web.archive.org/web/20080316203600/java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/2.1.1/solutions/Concat.html
The concat example calls it a "superglue" datasource and uses it to concat outputs to a file... exact same concept, except you'll want to use a queue you can append to dynamically rather than an array created at compile time... and you'll want to output to RTP instead of to a file. You'll probably also want your DataSource to stay alive waiting for the next thing to be enqueued rather than shutting down when it reaches the end of the list.

  • Converting .avi files for use in iDVD

I have multiple .avi files that I'd like to add to a DVD using iDVD. These files are in their original format at 30 kb/sec and not compressed at all so they are HUGE...totaling almost 20G.
What is the best way to convert these files so that they can be imported into iDVD and fit on a single DVD. The files would be about an hour and a half playing time so I am hoping that can be done. I realize quality may be compromised but I'm willing to lose a little bit.

Roxio Toast is your best option IMO but if you want to stay within the iApps then you'll first have to add the avi files to iMovie => iDvd. That or use a third part app likeMpegStreamclip (free download):
I suggest you do not exceed 120 mins playback for SL Dvd-R
Hope this helps but if not just come on back.

  • Problem viewing AVI files with quicktime plugin

I have quicktime 7.6 and perian installed
When I try to stream an AVI file I can hear sound but no video is displayed
If I download the file and I then play it with quicktime everything is fine
If I remove perian then I will be able to stream from the website but of course unable to play MKV, Divx and Xvid files
I have removed all obsolete codecs and I am running out of ideas on what is wrong with the system

In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from
    http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/

  • Batch rename of avi files

I am looking for the solution to batch rename multiple avi files simply.
In iphoto, I just select a bunch of image files and using the ctrl+Shift+CMD keyboard shortcut, I input the name something like 'boat_trip_kids' I get the files renamed instantly wiith or without the suffix of a number.
Thing is,  how to do for vdo files ?
I read a totorial and then tried using automator to do this but I have to input the name_of_the_file in the script construction. That's ok for hundreds of files but I will have many names to use for naming of small groups of files and this won't be practical.
Is there some way I can achieve this in automator ?
Perhaps someone with expertise with automator can talk me through the way?
    Thx,

Check out A Better Finder Rename. I don't know if this will do what you want but I thought I'd suggest it anyhow.
That link is to the macupdate.com download page.  Also on that page is a Similar Software section for other apps with similar functionality.

  • Playing 3 or 4 avi files in succession ? Can't do !

QT is designed primarily for the simultaneous playback of multiple tracks or movies. The player app does not contain any internal "playlist" capabilities as such.
how do i simply play 3 or 4 avi files in succession, not all at once ?
Simplicity is in the eye of the beholder. There are several ways to do this. You could, for instance,
    1) If the AVI compression formats are compatible with iTunes/your QT component configuration, you could place the audio and video data in an MOV file container, add them to iTunes, and place them in an playlist for playback.
    2) You could create an Automator app which would play multiple AVI files or folders/subfolders of AVI files (in MOV containers) dropped on the app in a sequential manner.
    3) You could create a "reference" movie (i.e., a pseudo "playlist) whose pointers point the the AVI files you want played in the order desired.
    4) Use an alternative third-party player which includes an internal playlist.
And then perhaps repreat the sequence.
Easy, simply save the "Reference" movie mentioned above with the "Loop" option set.
In short there are many ways to do what you want. However, only you can decide which is the simplest for your purpose.

  • IMovie Corrupted My .avi Files

Multiple .avi files were imported from iPhoto into iMovie to ultimately make a DVD (using iDVD). The DVD project worked perfectly. Unfortunately, I can no longer play the .avi files (in iPhoto). For some reason, every file I previously imported into iMovie is corrupt. Through iPhoto, I can see the thumbnail of the .avi file, as well as the file info (length of movie, file name, date, size). Everything appears ok, but the files will not play. I even attempted exporting the .avi files from iPhoto onto my desktop to see if they would play. They did not.
    All ideas/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Mark1604
Given the the Get Info window tells you the file is 30mb, it suggests that it's in there somewhere...
Here's a couple of things to try:
Select one of the file in iPhoto and right- (or Control-) click on it and select 'Show File' from the resulting menu. This should open a Finder Window with the file already selected. Does this work?
The jpg's you're finding are most likely thumbnails that iPhoto is using to display in the iPhoto Window.
Finally, as to playing the files: Check back to your camera manufacturer's website and see if they have an update to their software. There are literally hundreds of variants of the avi format, so my search for a solution would start there.
If that doesn't work, try using an alternative player like VLC.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards
    TD

  • Can Premiere Pro CC handle AVI files with multiple audio streams?

I have an AVI file with two audio streams and I am wondering if there's any way to access the second stream in PP? So far I can only get the first stream to play. I know I can extract the second stream in for instance VirtualDub, but it would be nice to not have to do that in the interest of an effective workflow.

Hello again Jim! Thank you for your reply, you seem to be working hard here on the forums! The info I have found from 2011 suggested that it wasn't possible then, but I was hoping maybe they added this feature.

  • AVI file giving Audio/Video file has no streams

I try to import into CS5 Premiere Pro and it gives me the error. I am running on a Mac and the file works in VLC. It's pretty frustrating not to see the video except in the VLC player.

    Welcome to the forum.
Playing a file is separate from editing that same file - totally different. Playability can contribute some info, but can also instill a false sense of security. Players, like VLC, are very good for playing, as they contain about everything needed, right in the player. They do not rely on the installed CODEC's in the system, so being able to edit that same file, may well prove impossible, as the NLE program will have to rely on the installed system CODEC's. Also, even if one has the particular, necessary CODEC installed, it does not mean that the NLE program can actually use it. This ARTICLE will give you a bit more background.
As Harm mentions, it is likely an issue with at least one stream of the file and the CODEC that is needed to decode it. If you have a muxed file (both Audio and Video streams) you need two CODEC's - one for each stream. Next, they BOTH must work in PrPro. It is likely that you are either missing, one or both, or that PrPro cannot use one, or both. VLC Player doesn't need them from the system, as it obviously contains them internally. MediaPlayer Classic HC, and some others are good this way - they play almost everything. However, they do not insure that one has the CODEC installed and that it will work in the NLE. Great for playing, but not so good for insuring that that same file will edit properly.
Good luck, and let us know what is inside that AVI file. This ARTICLE will give you some background on "AVI," and what can be inside that "wrapper."

  • Get associated avi file from avi file reference

For normal bytestream files, there is a "refum to path" function (under File I/O -> Advanced File Functions) that will give the associated file path for the input file reference.  This does not seem to work when an AVI file reference (opened using IMAQ's AVI functions) is wired ("refnum to path" returns <Not a Path>).  Is there a way to extract the AVI file path from an AVI file reference?

Thanks for your help.  The design of my program involves streaming video to disk (along with multiple other parallel functions, including DAQ interfacing and collection, playing back AVIs in mediaplayer, etc.).  Because of this, I have multiple "engine" loops running in parallel to the user interface loop.  In the UI loop, the target of the streaming video can be changed or even turned off, so I have a LV2 functional global holding the AVI file reference, which the video streaming engine checks for validity before proceeding through a loop iteration.  However, in the engine, certain decisions about extra data that needs to be saved with the streaming video is made by checking the directory of the file it is instructed to write to.  Therefore, a way to extract that file name from the reference in the LV2 global would be usefull.  The workaround I have to use now is to store the file path as well as the AVI file reference in the LV2 global and pass them around together.  This isn't that bad, but in the intrest of keeping block diagrams uncluttered with data I shouldn't need, I posted the question.
